I really hate how Roblox has moved from being online LEGOs and a virtual chatroom to being babby's first game engine. Some of the shit people can pull off is impressive, but 90% of what you see nowadays is uninspired samey bullshit built around draining time and money from children with microtransactions so they can make a fat paycheck with DevEx. Back then it wasn't so much about the game as much as it was just chilling with friends and randos. Nowadays most people don't even talk in games, most likely because they're a tiny child on a phone (which the phone UI doesn't make people even want to use chat) or they just don't speak english at all.

I originally didn't care to learn scripting, I found it as a necessity when I wanted to force free models to work the way I wanted to.
I only started seriously learning it through a friend. I ask a lot of dumb questions cause I need to know ins and outs of everything.
Learning scripting was a positive feedback loop cause i mainly patched up old free models that had major flaws- things like paper morphs for dogon's paper mario games (mentioned in this thread actually lol)
So the more I learned to fix the more I wanted to fix things, till I started making devil fruit tools for a game called One Piece Online which really brought me to where I am now.

Loooots of practice over the years. It comes in stages, like learning the tools, and then the theory on how to make things detailed, or impactful, or efficient and not laggy. One of my big early revelations was to stop making a big ass baseplate to make my game "largescale" cause I'd perpetually work on one corner overdetailing and never expanding. So I now take a more "do the big terrain first, then add detail in layers across the entirety"

Explode1 lived up to his name
I used to LOVE his building style- my shitty laptop that I had (which basically forced me to play shitty games like minecraft, terraria, runescape, roblox) forced my building style to a more simplistic tone.
Explode1 mastered that sort of "classic" style of building while able to just produce new variations and interesting buildings/ terrain.
Friended each other back in like fucking 2012 or earlier just due to me liking his building style that much and telling him about it.

I think it's important to note I'm also good friends with Dogon (to this day still, he might even be lurking)
He made them old ass Paper Mario roleplay games (first of its kind) and he kept making new editions of it like bi-yearly. Cool fucking dude.
I helped with a lot of his earlier maps, fixed lots of his scripts, and over time we both kind of helped each other with building or scripting. (I even helped a tiny bit with the Shovelware Studios games)

Dogon and Explode1- and a whole team of other people associated with Explode1 (they were in this group called "elite builders of robloxia", which had its own swirling shitstorm of drama) all helped Dogon with one of his later Paper Mario maps.
It was one of the largest (and motherfucking laggiest) maps of all times. The map slowly transitioned between biomes, had so many areas (and genuinely looked good!)
Thing is, large maps and roleplay don't really go hand in hand. You want people to run into each other. They tried remedying this with trains (laggy and janky as fuck) and boats and shit but the game was kind of like in that overproduced stage.
So 2 years went by and Dogon was doing his cycle of remaking the map again-

So me and Dogon pseudo "team up" again, I tell him my theory that like the old games, a smaller map with quicker transitions, way smaller condensed areas, paths and arbitrary locations between hotspots would spice up the roleplay and allow more encounters and weird scenarios to play out.
We tested it and it seemed to have been an outright hit- not sure if the game was more popular, but that goal of condensing the areas actually worked as intended.

Explode1 then suddenly comes out of the blue throwing punches at dogon- in whatever way you could be as obnoxious and drama drumming as possible. Posting all over his own social media, his groups, and more specifically to dogon's dm's about how he backstabbed his trust, "trashed all our effort", discarded their work
He was upset dogon was working on a new map and leaving the old map in the dirt- something dogon has been doing with each iteration of his games up till this point anyway.
But this random ass hostility was found as fucking HILARIOUS by me- I knew Explode1 was a bit of a nut at that time- a control freak (some drama among the group actually caused the cease of development on that paper mario game, and he was knees deep in some new made up drama with EBR)
Ever since then me and dogon have sort of taken a backseat to the shitshow explode1 brought around him- and after the MrObvious scandal hearing about explode1 also doing the same shit was like the creme de le crop
