Vincent ends up being the strongest because of a weird overflow glitch at endgame, but it takes quite a bit of grinding to reach that point.

The whole point of having a love triangle is he has feelings for both. But he gets with Tifa, and they have more shared history to foreshadow this while Aeris’ more bubbly personality seems to break through Cloud’s exterior more to make the player think it will be them (so it hurts more when she dies). It’s all very well done

Maximilian released a pretty solid video about his hands on impressions of the demo. Apparently you can just hold the attack button down for canned combos, but there did seem to be branching moves depending on if you delay your button presses like DMC combos. Other than that we don't really have any official confirmation.

Just got back from playing the VII REMAKE demo yesterday, here's some details about combat.

>You can hold Square to attack with Cloud, the animations are entirely different to tapping square
>tapping square does his regular combo, but changing the timing of your button presses changes the combo too, at the very least i can guarantee that the 2nd and the last attack in his combo string can be changed to something different if you change your button press timing
>You can only go into tactical mode if you have at least 1 ATB bar full
>you can use tactical mode freely outside of combat without needing ATB bars at all and using items outside of combat costs nothing but in combat items cost ATB, Spells cost ATB and MP and special moves cost ATB, limits don't cost ATB
>regular attacks aren't as underpowered as they seem in trailers and footage, at the start of the demo it seemed like my regular attacks were only useful for building up ATB bars but after gaining 2 levels i went from doing 13 damage to guard dogs and 18~20 damage to shinra soldiers to doing 40~60
>the same goes for the scorpion sentinel boss fight, i saw people who rushed to it doing chip damage until they staggered it, while my damage wasn't insane it was way beyond what they were doing and therefore my Scorpion Sentinel was going into Stagger a LOT faster

In normal encounters you can button mash your way to victory pretty easily, at least that early in the game you can.
In the Scorpion Sentinel boss fight button mashing leads to you getting facefucked, that thing has a shitload of different movesets and carelessly approaching it is a dumb move. I generally noticed that after he shots some rockets he has a cool down period that you can approach and charge up your ATB bars fast but each phase has him doing different shit so it's hard to find his openings your first time through.

What i gathered is that you'll probably be able to hack and slash normal enemies pretty easily with some exceptions but even then you'll have to switch characters to do so because Cloud can't reach all the enemies. Bosses are going to be challenging though.

Right now it works out pretty cleanly: Disc 1 has Aeris more prominently to set up her death as appropriately sad and impactful.
It also sets up Tifa and Cloud’s past for the events of Disc 2 where Tifa takes priority. Aeris mostly being a regretful memory and her window of opportunity being the thing that unites them to take on Sephiroth.

Neither character is particularly shortchanged (except Aeris by dint of dying I guess but that’s obligatory) and their personalities help typify this set up
