You select one of the nine personalities for anime characters. You then select one of the dozen or so hairstyles. Pick a random colour and make it that, but make sure every character has a different hair colour because you are going to draw them exactly the fucking same otherwise.

If you are unsure that your character design is good and it's female, just remove some clothes and people will like it anyway. If you're feeling REALLY crazy give them two hair colours or even (keep this to yourself it's a top industry secret) heterochromia which will instantly make your character original and good.

The game has some weird texture and outlining issues though. Despite a RGB slider for color on clothing and such, virtually everything but a few colors look like trash, all the details on the clothes vanish, and all the colors look off.

That said, I haven't checked in with the game in a long time. After a few weeks of playing around with it after launch, I went back to AA2 with no regrets.

Better character creator and H interactivity, however they toned down the amount of freeroam gameplay. Instead of building upon AA2, you got this unholy abomination of set story and male protagonist rolling into an all-girls school with a handful of more fleshed out heroines who have linear stories + side girls who essentially work like in AA2, and the two don't really mesh well. The stories themselves are also horribly generic, even more than your usual pure love moege. They also removed blackmail and other male students meaning no rapey situations or cuckoldry, unless you count yuri.

Overall unless you really, really liked playing pseudo-Sims in AA2 I'd say Koikatsu takes the cake.

CM3D2 has significantly more basic gameplay than AA2, so if AA2 has no gameplay it isn't looking good for CM3D2. Doesn't help that what gameplay is there, is so mind numbingly boring and poorly implemented that playing it is more like a chore standing between you and the content.

Easier than it's ever been.
You don't need to 'install' AA2 anymore since Mini disables the need for an install entirely, and no longer requires JapLocale or even a proper installation directory to run.
You download it, you get the .pp2 mods (they're just a bunch of popular mods like HEXAOC/HP, clothing mods, your preferred uncensor patch, MCP) you like and put them in the data directory, download the Module.zip which contains all the currently used modules for AAU and place them in the right location in the Data folder - ask for help if you don't know where specifically - then go download cards and use them.
AAU allows people to bundle their mods for girls into the card so you don't need shit like SideLoader to make cards look correct.

The only thing you really need for cards to look the way they need to look will always be the 3 hair packs everyone uses, and the 3 clothing packs everyone uses.

It has a studio but it's rather archaic. You press F12 during any for of play where a character is and you pose her using FK. AA2 doesn't use IK rigging. You can still make some great stuff out of it though if you try.
But KK 200% has AA2 beat in that regard.

aa2u is clunkier than koikatsu, your choice of outfits is severely limited in comparison and outfits are basically hardcoded while you can mix and match them in KK
KK's studio is also much more powerful so if you run out of stuff and want to make your own that's a must
if you're fine with just what the game gives you then aa2u might keep you interested for a good while, but for lasting appeal, KK/HS/CM3D2 are much better

Also modules like are player-made and coded personality traits that dictate how a card will act. It basically adds an endless layer of possibilities on programming your waifu.
