They said there'll be mods for like arms, legs, eyes, torso but the player won't be allowed to augment as heavily as the lads from the Maelstrom gang from last year's demo. The explanation they gave is that most NPCs would be repulsed by that look and refuse to interact with you and it wouldn't mesh well with the sex scenes, so they didn't want to put that in cause it would break immersion and storytelling.

Right now I don't think there's any info on whether it's a player choice gone wrong or just a mandatory part.
If it's mandatory, it feels like a waste since Jackie got a lot of attention early on. If he's just there to basically serve as a tutorial guide for the first hour or so, it'll feel like a waste.
If it's player choice, there's where things are complicated. Either it's the Paul Denton in Deus Ex 1 or Malik in Human Revolution thing of being able to save him/her but the game quickly moves past it or CDPR did the near impossible and actually managed to create two scenarios where the game can move along with or without him, and if he's around, keeping him as an actual character, instead of using some excuse that he has to go away for the rest of the game.

I believe it's just tax incentives plus, since the tech world is there it helps with networking. What's funny is that they'll also have tax havens in other countries so pretty much on the little guy is taking the hit. The ones in control are basically on top of the world.

Not American either. For whatever reason my friend just found that subculture and for a while was insufferable with it. My only real issue with them is that it seems to be a purely visual style, which is fine, but they also see it as being some highly intellectual thing. Never got the fascination.

Realistic, yes, that's what will happen.
But a cyberpunk game doesn't necessarily need to end as you being top dog. The game could reach its climactic end as you're basically thrown back into the bottom of the food chain.
But I get your point. People playing Cyberpunk are unlikely to be horrified by the setting, they will be indulging in it. I guess that's an inherent problem with current cyberpunk. You might want to tell a grim tale about the consequences of this or that mentality but then you have people saying how cool everything looks.
