Is this the most compelling video game world of the decade?

there's a lot, but still not enough customization. i hope they really fix that in a sequel

no, unless you think planets of the apes is deep

The octo expansion is legit a better story about racism than any artsy fartsy walking sim

The LORE is a pretty neat addition, makes single player worth exploring for all the hidden scrolls.
Splatoon 3 is gonna be nuts though, since apparently the final Splatfest for 2 decides whether it's gonna be a wasteland setting or a futuristic dystopia.

how is it racism ?
the octoling/inkling worlds dinamic is Japan/North Korea

If you fucks vote for chaos, I will never forgive you

Stuff like Cuttlefish calling Marina "one of the good ones"

chaos will have the better music genres and idols

order chad here. Got to side with my bro captain cuttlefish

I'm choosing order, I can't pass up a dystopian future setting where Octolings make a resurgence with Marina at the helm. Just imagine the techno music, oh god

I just feel bad about going against based Iso Padre.

>he chose chaos

i will admit that i nearly moved to chaos cos of padre and dj octavio but cuttlefish is just too pure to betray

Fill me up on Splatoon lore

>something happened to humans that wiped them all out.
>Earth got flooded.
>As water receeded new races popped up that were aquatic themed
>Two prime races were squidlings and octolings
>War
>Squids won
>Built great city and turns out they're rascals that love to just shoot paint and stuff at each other and have fights, leading to turf wars.
>Octolings hid underground in mega biomes.
>Leader attacked twice and failed twice
>Later on Captain Cuttlefish, one of the main fighters of the original war, gets lost underground somewhere with an octoling
>Together they break out and turns out there was remnant of human technology doing evil stuff ready to wipe out everything to start over again. Loses
>Turns out octolings have been accepted into society and now both races are having a grand old time
>Things are bubbling again as another war between chaos and order is around the horizon.

This is the very basic gist of it.

Since time immemorial, a rare type of electric catfish known as the Zapfish has been prized by Inkling society as a source of energy. In fact, the entire city of Inkopolis is powered by a single 100-year-old Great Zapfish.

"We Octarians dwell in a world deep underground. The individual caves in which we live are connected by a network of transport devices known as kettles."
"Wow... You learn something new every day!"

adding/correcting some shit
>Humans were wiped because they nuked the poles
>Octolings hid in what were supposed to be advanced bunkers for the humans that would survive
>Octoling stole energy sources for their bases and weapons, they didn't attack (yet)
>Octolings aren't accepted into society officialy, squids are simply too dumb to know the difference though Corporations do seeing the octophones

This seems to be an Octarian assault vehicle, but it doesn't appear to have an engine. The big question, then... how does it move? It's frighteningly clear that the source of Octarian power lies outside the ream of established science.

This scroll was found in a deep rock layer, its age estimated at approximately 2,000 years. It details the ancient Turf Wars of the time. It seems the basic four-versus-four battle format has already been established at this stage

"The Terrifying Biology of the Inkling!"
"Strength: Can leap up to 5 ft." "Brain: Simple and predatory"
"Bones: None!" "Eyes: Can spot prey from 100 yd. away"
"Defense: High-pressure, high-capacity ink sac"

"The Department of Energy has announced that further declines in the availability of electric power are likely to occur in the near future. With the underground domes also deteriorating rapidly, the future does not look bright."

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_6[1].png (950x494, 465K)

The ink sprayed during a Turf War vanishes almost immediately after the battle ends. How environmentally friendly! (And incredibly convenient!)

Nobody is talking about it being deep dumbass

It seems that some Octarians can assume humanoid form. These specimens have superior physical capabilities and are highly aggressive. High-ranking individuals have kelp on their heads. But what motivates them, if anything at all?

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_9[1].png (950x494, 459K)

With the creatures of the surface driven to extinction by rising sea levels, the ancestors of the Inklings were free to haul their 10-legged bodies up onto the abandoned land. This is how the Mollusc Era began.

Twice a year, the Inkopolis Collection fashion show captures the hearts, minds, and wallets of the city's youth. Is there no room in these creatures' minds for anything but battle and fashion?

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_11[1].png (950x494, 517K)

The first battles of the Great War ended in victory for the Octarian forces. The diligent Octarians easily dominated the Inklings, who were unable to wake up early enough in the morning to defend themselves.

These scrolls look really good, pure soul

Heralded by loud explosions, the "Great Octoweapons" quickly stormed the Inklings' central stronghold. Victory for the Octarians seemed all but certain, but due to a plug being carelessly pulled from its socket, their hopes were dashed.

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_13[1].png (950x494, 462K)

You're a fucking idiot lmao.

Lady Luck shone down on the Inklings, and historians today agree that the Inklings' victory over the Octarians was mostly due to their superior number of limbs.

This is the only existing photograph of the legendary Squidbeak Splatoon. The young man folding his arms appears to be the leader. When this picture was taken, the Great Turf War had been raging on for over a year.

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_15[1].png (950x494, 430K)

Before the Great Turf War, there were amicable relations between the Inklings and the Octarians. They couldn't have dreamed that rising sea levels would force them to battle fiercely over the remaining territory.

"These two cousins from Calamari Country won Inkopolis's first annual Youth Folk-Singing Contest. Their remarkable voices earned them a standing ovation from all present and catapulted them into the spotlight!"

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_17[1].png (950x494, 473K)

"It's Black Friday every day at the Booyah Base Ultra-Mega-Hyper Sale! Every deal's a doorbuster! If you want to be the FRESHEST squid in Inkopolis, you CANNOT miss this incredible shopportuntiy!"

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_18[1].png (987x494, 469K)

Is the big fluffy one providing shelter for the little fishy one, or is the little fishy one manipulating the big fluffy one? We may never know...

"Squid Squad's new album, Fresh Kids, takes their trademark squidcore sound to a whole new level! Critics call it 'an aural buffet of squidiosyncratic psychedelicacy!' The perfect theme for any Turf War! On sale now!"

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_20[1].png (950x494, 426K)

What is this? It looks just like the proprietor of the shoe shop! Could there have been an ancient creature that consumed prawns as food?! A terrifying thought indeed...

I'm hoping that now that Nogami is back as director of the AC team after being absent since City Folk, I'm hoping that he makes new character episodes and some backstories for the characters that don't have any. I'm excited for splatoon 3 as well.

"From the depths of the sea we emerged long ago, seeking the light of the surface. In searching of still greater lights, we now send this message into outer space, sealed in a disk. Perhaps one day, we will encounter other intelligent life.

The customary chorus of Calamari Country.
Nowadays, this song and dance may as well be carved into the very DNA of all Inklings. It began as a way to celebrate and show respect for the bounty of the sea.

Is going through Splatoon 1's story mode important for understanding the lore in 2?

"Why are we here? For what purpose do we exist? We must not dwell on these questions. We can merely trust in the will of the universe and spend our days and nights in harmony with the world, celebrating this festival called Life."

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_24[1].png (998x494, 490K)

"Though academic circles warn of rising sea levels, the policy makers pay them no heed. At this rate, human civilization may be lost beneath the tide. Will even this furry fellow be consumed by the raging ocean?"

A 12,000-year-old fossil of a creature with an odd internal skeleton. Its small skull indicates the creature was likely primitive with little intelligence. This specimen appears to have been fossilized in the middle of some kind of ritual.

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_26[1].png (950x494, 412K)

"Oh, my beloved Judd... It seems the day has finally come. This capsule is designed to remian cryogenically sealed for 10,000 years. Good-bye, my purrfect little kitty cat. May your meows echo through the ages."

Attached: Splatoon_Sunken_Scroll_27[1].png (950x494, 457K)

No. The guy posting right now is actually dumping the lore from 1.

How is he an idiot? It is obviously a localization thing, but the expansion makes fun of "diet racism" like when the old man says marina has very good grammar for an octoling.

>when the old man says marina has very good grammar for an octoling
He never says that.

grammar, articulate, whatever

That's what I thought.
