Might and Magic / King's Bounty

Are these games series completely dead or are there any hints for future instalments?

There are basically like Arena Shooters. Older games reached perfection and none gives a shit about modern iterations.

Won't this game be of the same genre?

Ubisoft owns HOMM and ran that shit straight in the ground.
Also Ubisoft exclusively does open world games anymore.

Never heard of it but I never said that there are totally dead. Just like with new UT or Quake Championships, these games appear once in a while. People play them for a bit but just go back playing UT99, UT2004 or Q3A. Or in this case Homam 3 or 4.
Moreover, these games just doesn't reach the mainstream playerbase anymore. When I was a kid, everyone I knew play Homam 3 (I am Slav btw.). Never heard anyone talk about anything after fifth game.

It was announced on the PC gaming show.

Disciples > HOMM

>Acquire franchise
>give it to literallywho devs who just happen to produce a decent entry like V
>then give it to OTHER literallywho devs who don't know what they're doing with VI
>then give it to YET ANOTHER (mobile) devs for whom VII was just too much to handle
For shame, Ubisoft.

Nival might be obscure but they had a pretty decent track record, including turn based combat.

I loved both those franchises. The fantasy setting, the variety of units, the RPG elements... I know there are other similar games but I'm not a big fan of the 4x factor. I prefer the exploration, the combat and story.

Regardless, I don't think we're ever going to see another HoM&M anytime soon, as they tried to revive it many times, even giving it to a russian developer if I'm not mistaken, and it's only got worse.

They should make a highly modable version of the 5th and let the fans fix their franchise. It worked for Bethesda.

>give it to literallywho devs who just happen to produce a decent entry like V

Those Russian guys were anything but literal whos.
Likewise, Russians are obsessed with HoMM3. They didn't make a good HoMM game by mere accident.

>even giving it to a russian developer if I'm not mistaken, and it's only got worse

Nah, that one (5) was great.
The issue came aftwards. I don't remember why, but Ubisoft decided to cut ties with those Russians.
They, in turn, acquired the King's Bounty license and made a bunch of those.

On Ubisoft's side of things, they had a bright spot with the great 3DS game. Then they gave 6 to Hungarians which mostly got butchered by early Ubisoft's always-online experiments. After that, they gave the license to som Germans and with no budget to speak of, told them to make the 7th and so far, final game.
Other than that they also had an online game going and a recent one with really good miniature painting element, but nothing besides that which got cancelled in development.

Ah, yes, I liked the 5th. I thought it was the russians who butchered the 7th. My bad then. It's been a long time since I played anything related to the franchise.

to this day there is no game better than HoMM3

>King's Bounty

i liked these

How do I bring myself to actually play the whole HOMM3 campaign? I usually just do fucktarded scenarios against the AI.

Ubisoft doens't know what to do with the IP and doens't know how to sell it. On surface, it should be just a simple fantasy TBS that's easy to put on just about any platform, in practice, they not once shipped a product in compete state, requiring many patches for the game to even run properly, to say nothing of poor art direction and game design. Probably the most they've made off the brand besides Heroes V is in China where they have M&M branded gachashit. I honestly don't know if turn-based strategy genre can sell at all in today's climate of fast session-based games, especially considering fundamental design problems with Heroes series in particular (it's basically PVE creeping until the one encounter with the enemy player, and lategame is just mopup so nobody plays it out in multiplayer) so yeah. And if a new game isn't of high enough quality there's no reason not to just play Heroes 3 which is still fucking good, fans even modded new features including a working online lobby, whereas multiplayer was literally NEVER fixed in Heroes VII.

HoMM3 Remake but they would probably fuck that up too

Why remake what works? They need to move it forward, they just have no ideas.

Are these worth playing for the waifus alone?

Go play Eador:Genesis

they already tried that with HD edition, fucked up real hard

They already did that.
Haven't seen those bullshots yet?

Attached: ubisoft-might-and-magic-3-hd-fake-screenshot.jpg (242x945, 149K)

i mean in a newer engine from scratch and with a more powerful map maker
but yeah getting this from Ubisoft is a bit far-fetched

>

>I honestly don't know if turn-based strategy genre can sell at all in today's climate
Yeah, it's not like most mobile games which make GTA5 blush in sales aren“t standard turn based strategy or RPG games with a gacha attached.
It's not like Nintendo is off selling another Fire Emblem game, XCOMs and RabbisCOM doing great and so on.

I agree with you that HoMM needs some good looking at and redesigning to be marketable nowadays. However, it's got nothing to do with turn based strategy games as a whole.

Attached: 5-1024_1342_1.jpg (1024x578, 73K)

Would you fucking WANT some gacha trash?

is 6 and 7 even worth playing?

Some folks say that 6 have interesting campaigns. But I kinda doubt it.

VI is OK. Nothing remarkable about the game but it's entertaining.
VII is a total mess. How bad optimized it is, how terrible the story and the narration... I don't think it's worth.

No, all I'm saying is that user is dead-wrong in his asssessment of the turn based strategy game market.

6 is decent all in all. Don't know if it even works today (a crack should fix that). They did some radical patching in that game, though. Keep that in mind when looking for cracks.
The one issue the game had that I remember is that it puhsed all factions into the same mold, which combined with the conversion of towns to your faction, meant there were almost no differences in how the various factions played overall.

I love kings bounty, but there are some serious flaws

armored princess/march of the orcs is, but the games noticeably get much worse with warriors of the north and onwards.

I hope so, after you RTS niggers didn't buy the actual RPG M&M X.

I bought it and it fucking sucked, they got everything wrong. M&M has always been known for open world, instead they made it railroaded as fuck. M&M was always simple to get into, with this one they made up a bunch of overcomplicated and poorly balanced mechanics and retarded names for everything. Grid-based movement was not what people liked those games for, they were just a limitation of the time. It was a cheap cash-in made by people who don't even get Might & Magic. Fuck Ubisoft and fuck Erwan.

Which ones?

HOMM3 is still bring actively developed at a high level by HOTA programming geniuses, and has a huge PVP community. Just play that game since it's perfection.

>RTS niggers
We're not those ADHD kid, mate.

I always loved the games back in the days of II and III, even still tried to play V and VI, but never was all that great at them.

Biggest memory of the classics was the interesting set of modding and lore behind one III mod (something of gods?), and that my step-dad always played II and always tried to find ghosts so he could scoff at any semblance of balance.

Hota team is making another expansion with a new faction called Factory.
Fuck ubisoft

cant remember but they made me stop playing

I am waiting for this one

Attached: Songs of Conquest.jpg (3840x2160, 3.96M)

Man,
VII had the potential to be V 2.0, but the AI, other bugs and a dev team seemingly incapable of solving anything without breaking something else utterly fucked it.

Attached: 1315581642028.png (461x523, 110K)

Whoa bold claim, since Disciples 3 pretty much copied HOMM

They're comparing map overworld sprites, not combat ones.

can confirm, VI was nice maybe except for the whole "teenager commands an army of death" but it was ok

>They're comparing map overworld sprites, not combat ones.
Different user here. You're correct.
It's still bullshit. Because the background ISN'T from the overworld.

We got enough out of King's Bounty and people were complaining it was too much of the same thing before the last expansion rolled. Heroes sadly suffered from being passed over from one dev to the next like a cheap whore.

Attached: dark side.jpg (1024x576, 152K)

>dat feel when fan of both Etherlords games, but no one gave a fuck about them

It's like Heroes meets Magic before everyone overused cards as a mechanic.

Attached: 1366.jpg (730x345, 109K)

Its skill system is fucked too. The skill tree may be interesting at first, but you quickly find an optimal build after a few playthroughs, creating the same kind of character over and over again.
As for all the bugs, didn't they fix everything by now? I mean it's been so long since the game was released. I pirated it lately and I remember installing gorillion patches on top of the base game.

Sanctuary was a solid faction stuck in a shitty game.
But by god, the gameplay is just so dumb.
>OH NO! AN ENEMY IS 2 FEET AWAY FROM ONE OF MY UNPROTECTED TOWN!
>guess I'll just buy this legion of creatures that built up over time in this fucking shared creature pool

They abandoned the game after 2.1. Some things were fixed while others not. And it still has Denuvo.

>mfw they had to make a big deal about TOWN SCREENS coming back after VI fucked even that up
There was no way VII was going to be good, sadly.

Those devs later made HoMM5 you know.

I was completely fine with the skill system after they added the mode that removed the class restrictions.
Just too bad you lost all skills that were beyond those restrictions if you loaded a save.
Man, I miss necro ballistas with triple shot 'n' shieet

Am I the only one who liked 4? Sure, it had problems, but the novelty of having two upgrade paths AND Hero system as a whole was great and made them more than stat stacks. Daily unit recruitment is not something I'm strongly attached to, though.

Attached: Heroes4_hero classes.jpg (724x755, 120K)

homm5 is a masterpiece and the best homm. change my mind

Attached: 1560279136031.jpg (598x934, 103K)

Is there any way to make the menu screen look less hideous? I have all my settings on highest possible but the 'shine' looks like dog shit

shut up kurwa

I was going to argue but then I remembered the OST and it was my mind that changed.

Not sure about the series, but from the brief info of Songs of Conquest on e3, it seemed to be made as a spiritual homm successor, so there's that.

Here's a gif of a Knight from that game.
No combat footage yet though, so we'll see, but I think given the sprites it's probably gonna be very much like homm, and not so different that it gets into AoW territory.

Attached: knight2x.gif (512x355, 267K)

>change my mind
You don't have one

You definitely not alone. Excellent music as well

It tried to be 3 too much. Also, as Heroes went 3D I think it really started to affected the pace. If if you speed animations there's still way too much loading and 3D awkwardness compared to sprite perfection achieved in 3.

After seeing how amazing Age of Empire II DE looks like, these pixelated graphics turn me off a bit. Hopefuly it's a good game.

>I honestly don't know if turn-based strategy genre can sell at all in today's climate of fast session-based games
AoW 3 and Endless games seem to do pretty well

The factions are too bland.
Bad & ugly combat screen, but not as terribly godawful combat screen as homm4.

absolutely garbage tier taste, HOMM V OST was great.
youtube.com/watch?v=wrp1hEtU0ys

Read the post again, that's what it implied.

I hate new King's Bounty art. Just looks like mobile game trash.

I still remember Heroes 5 main theme.
youtube.com/watch?v=WmUfc7PpOco

As long as it has waifus, I'm ok with it.

I hate fan service even more

The writing in 4 was surprisingly good. I mean, you don't really have to try with the plot in this kind of game, but campaigns in 4 got me hooked

>megabytes of text on screen after every turn is good writing
Just read a book at that point.

They didn't lose it in KB either. That elven theme was fantastic.
youtube.com/watch?v=l-DXMCYTiDc

>that's easy to put on just about any platform
Playing homm with a gamepad or on a mobile sounds like it would feel very inconvenient.
I don't doubt that someone could try to put a tbs game like homm on mobile, probably are a few examples there, but they'd probably be dumbing down the game for it to feel more smooth on those platforms.
>I honestly don't know if turn-based strategy genre can sell at all in today's climate of fast session-based games
Civ5+Civ6s combined numbers would be #13 on steam right this moment.
A total war game at #15.
Civ games have been better off in steamcharts for most of the time, but not completely dead so I wouldn't count them out.

It probably had THE best campaign out of all Heroes games.

Attached: relate.jpg (640x480, 80K)

Just FYI, KB is by different Russians

I tried to give 7's campaign a shot.
Levels were LONG and the maps were ugly as hell.

At the end of like a 2 hour mission which was super early on, maybe like the 3rd or 4th the requirements bugged out (which apparently was a super common bug according to forums) and I couldnt complete the level so I uninstalled and never looked back.

Homm2 has my favourite music and I think it's pretty good.
I love homm3 as a game, but the music has never really grabbed me, it's just good enough and there for me.

I barely remember playing homm1, I played it a bit as a friend and I remember hype over playing a homm2 for the first time so I obviously cared about the game.
Some of the tracks from homm1 are quite good, but I don't remember them from back in the day
youtube.com/watch?v=G67s30Zj7Mg&ab_channel=BlauerToad
I really like the dirt theme

>not Spazz Maticus

Well in that case Russians sure know their shit about music, because both of those OSTs are great.

>tfw no bleak depressing Russian game with Shostakovich and Schnittke in the OST

HOMM5.5 is objectively superior in literally every single way.
