Yeah the Gamecube controller was great, and I was an Xbox guy. My brother had a Gamecube though and the controller was really good. I think maybe they should have changed the right thumbstick to the same design as the left (could still make it yellow to distinguish it for games like Wind Waker if they wanted), because then it would be better for FPS games.

Also they could have added a ZL button so you've got two shoulder buttons. The OG Xbox controller had black and white to make up for this, of course, while the Gamecube only has that single Z button. I notice actually the "Gamecube" controller in OP's pic is actually a Switch controller, because you'll notice it has a ZL button, as well as the Switch logo and Switch buttons in the middle.

But yeah, apart from that, I think the Gamecube controller had great build quality, it was a good size, and the triggers were really cool - the clickiness at the end of the travel was cool. Also the idea of making the face buttons different shapes and sizes works really well, I think. In fact I sort of think it should have stuck around. It helps indicate the different functions of each button - A is pretty much always the primary action button, B is usually to cancel or carry out some auxiliary function, and Y and X are simply auxiliary buttons.

The GC controller was such a vast improvement from the N64 controller. I loved the N64 but that joystick is pretty crap when you go back to it. I guess joystick technology at that time wasn't great, though. But the GC analog stick is amazing, one of the best on any controller I'd argue.

Not terrible, but I'd put GC and 360 controllers at the top. I don't like dualshock controllers so they'd be lower. Wii U pad is comfortable to hold. Wii U pro shouldn't be that low, it's similar to some of the better controllers. NES controller is underrated as well.

I game on both PC and PS4, so I never bothered trying out the xbox controller, which would only work on PC (I don't care if there are so dongles that allow me to use the xbox controller on PS4, user).

The only thing I've always disliked about the DS4 is how small and slippery the thumbsticks are. I literally cannot use the controller without some grips over the thumbsticks.

The GameCube controller was literally only good for exclusives designed around it. Any multiplats suffered due to having less buttons (no two rows of shoulders, no L3/R3, no select). They often resorted to holding down Z while pressing L/R to replicate pressing L2/R2.

The motion control concept works much better on the VR platforms. The Wii was a neat proof of concept but overall was a poor implementation.

Without clawing you only have access to 2 bumpers, 2 triggers, and the stick buttons without letting go of the sticks.

Look at Dante in DMC 4 or DMC 5, there is simply no way to remap the controls to have access to all the functions you need without letting go of the left stick, and you need the left stick for directional attacks.

You need quick access to all of these without letting go of the left stick to play the game properly. No control scheme can achieve this without clawing because you need access to at least 11 buttons.

The connecting wire can get really torn up and start losing connection after a while.
You can usually fix it by forcing the wire to bend by wrapping it around the pad.

Also the membranes on the D-pad will get worn out, requiring more and more pressure to register, resulting in your thumb(or index finger if you're clawing) having calluses from how hard you need to press down.
Even if it's not completely broken you're better off just replacing these after 3-4 years, the F310 is cheap as fuck, that's one of its main advantages.

The xbone is without a doubt the #1 multi-purpose controller. It's almost flawless, except for the d-pad and shoulder buttons, and even those have been tweaked on more-recent models.
Throw in a kb+m and your fighting game implement of choice, and you'd never need another controller again

Honest question: what makes the bone controller better than the 360 controller? The bone controller feels loose and floaty and has H U G E dead zones.

Not him, but pretty much every pre-Motion Plus game had tacked on waggle. The only game in the entire Wii library that had good waggle was Skyward Sword. Just kidding. The only good waggle game was Red Steel 2

But there's plenty of games that are best played on a controller but require aiming occasionally. Games like Dark Souls or Zelda.
Once you're used to gyro aiming for that shit going back to stick aiming is like going back to the stone ages.

Don't fall for it, Xbox 360 controller is just standard but it feels very cheap, dpad is shit, trigerrs and bumpers too, and it's asymmetrical, literally made for a retard.

But the Wiimote+Nunchuck were fantastic. The analog stick just need to be clickable and maybe an extra couple buttons on the Wiimote.

The joycon controller duo and single are both D. DS4 is C. Gamecube is A and Switch Pro is A. otherwise perfect

The 360 d-pad is absolute garbage and should disqualify it from perfect status in virtually every situation.

Have you tried pressing left and right repeatedly on your controller? Because a lot of Pro Controllers register vertical inputs when you do.

Probably haven't played enough games where it's crucial, but even considering that, I'm not sure if it'd be bad enough to put it straight up into A to the DS4. Definitely wouldn't play puzzle games with it though.

It's not incorrectly registering inputs. It's the spike on the interior of the d-pad that is prone to easily tilting if you aren't precise in your input. Mine wore off through use.
