I'm sceptical about story-related unit deaths in general. If they're in, I'm guessing it'll be like Kaze in Birthright where you can avoid it. Claude's wyvern sounds like something that would have showed up in the trailer, so I'm inclined to believe that's a lie. Gay romances are probably in. Fates did set a precedent, it panders to romancefags, and it sounds pretty plausible that they'd add more f/f than m/m options.

Why are so many fags applauding the removal of child units as some kind of godsend? I don't really mind their absence but as somebody who's played all the games from the SNES onward, child units as a mechanic is one of my favorite parts of FE and its removal is a little dissapointing.

It adds an extra layer of strategy to the game when you think about which units synergize well statwise as well as potential skills to pass down. If you are shipperfag, it also gives you a bunch of interactions to see. The feature gives the games that have it tremendous replay value, so why it seems to despised is beyond me.

I don't despise child units, but I don't want it in every game. The fact that they were blatantly put into Fates not to improve gameplay but to ride Awakening's success put a bad taste in many's mouths. It was disruptive to the rest of the game in every sense and felt very tacked on.

Also understand that by removing child units, they are able to balance the game in a different way and in the vacuum created add NEW mechanics and meta instead of rehashing eugenics. Developing your characters statistically in this game looks to be a very new experience if you look into it at all. I'm very excited for it.

The problem with child units is that they have 3 caveats that prevent them from being enjoyed all that much. While being rewarded with a brand new unit for taking the time and pair all your units up, they run into the trouble of:
1) It is absurdly punishing to lose 2 units for the price of 1 fuckup. Not to mention how you can lose a possible unit because you chose the wrong gender for the avatar and got with anyone outside the avatar-sexuals.
2) You have to write a story in regards to the children. Having every game have some massive time skip, integrate time travel, or the fucking BABY DIMENSION is genuinely unsustainable for this kind of franchise.
3) It makes a lot of bad characters. The children units generally don't have a lot of depth other than "MY FATHER DIED/LEFT ME ALONE IN AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION". They need something like Heirs of Fate or A Future Past, an alternate, separate scenario to really shine through, and that's a lot of resources to justify an optional mechanic. Meanwhile, the parents come off as irresponsible or straight up abusive, and the game is too pussy-footed to actually go in-depth at such.

Child Units are fun but they are too much of a strain to repeatedly use again and again, whether mechanically (not even Genealogy handled this right) or writing-wise. I think it's just the wiser decision to only use them if such a game can handle them. Besides, if you want replay value, I think there are more engaging ways to do so with a smaller, tighter-knit cast of cannon fodder and more freedom in customization.

Gameplay wise it restricted pairup massively as you were basically forced to pair people up specifically to raise an S rank and once you did the S rank support trounced everything else. Fates specially suffered from this since one would rather just keep, say, Silas and Effie paired at all times rather than let them separate and pair or use attack stance as needed for the situation.

The music in the paralogue they showed yesterday sounded like shit, but that track's pretty nice.

It's obviously not awakening tier, as seen from Treehouse's footage, but conquest tier isn't going to happen. Close maybe, but dragon veins were a big part in making CQ maps dynamic and interesting, without those I think 3H will offer some decent maps but unless they kick up the clear objectives on Hard mode I don't think it'll quite compare in the end.

You actually need to do that map in 1 turn otherwise you get buttfucked. Another thing you can do is capture a maid in chapter 18 so you have an S Rank in staves, and have someone to use Bifrost.

Probably around GBA tier. Not completely bland rout only maps like Awakening or (god forbid) Echoes, but nothing mindblowing like RD or Conqest maps.

Well the leaker said the people that played it told her that the maps were disappointing but maybe better than Awakening/SOV. Which makes me think they're just gonna be mehish. I doubt we'll get any exciting gimmick maps or things that changes the whole maps up.

The only thing we've seen that MIGHT hint at this kinda thing is drawbridge on that paralogue, and teleport tiles on that labyrinth map. But that's not exactly super exciting and the map design didn't seem great like say Chapter 10 of Conquest.

There doesn't appear to be any limit, though I'm betting that certain characters can't be recruited for their direct relations to House Lords, like Hubert or Dedue. The real limit is if you can get your stats high enough in the 12 months Part I lasts in order to recruit everyone you can while also devoting enough time to train your own students.

I wanted the other students to be bosses of the chapters and for them to be fought and killed but since they are recruitable it is unlikely that is the case.

It's broken gameplay-wise, makes using the parent units less fun since they constantly need to stay by each other, and the only game that managed to implement them into the plot well was FE4.

It's not like an on/off thing. If you zoom all the way in on a map it displays your units as well as their battalion, but if you play at the "normal" level it just shows the individual units like usual.
Personally I'm gonna try playing the game zoomed in at first.
