Always pick small for SP. It's better to have 3-4 side worlds for materials than one single huge world for a main world. Just don't build too high up.

Starbound is fun, instead of building sandcastles out of blocks, I get to explore dozens and dozens of different environments, including space stations, moons, alien planets and space anomalies reachable with the mech.
