I love Dragon Quest V
It's the least pretentious, most sincere RPG of all time

I agree. Its top 3 best JRPG of all time
Check out DQ11. Hundred plus hours of fun, very true to the series, quirky and neat and cliche and still manages to surprise you. Might be the only 10/10 JRPG in years.
There used to be more games with the same tone, like Lufia but they all died and now only DQ remains
RPG thread
Best turn-based RPG for me
>Lunar 2
>Threads of Fate
>DQ 7
>FF 8
>FF 6
>Golden Sun
>Legend of Legaia
>Jade Cocoon
Come to think of it, it's really been a while since I have played RPG. Currently playing Persona 3 so I might play some DQ games again or maybe Persona 1 or 2.
Horesedick NTR.
Forgot to add
>Wild Arms
>Thousand Arms
>Grandia
I have never tried any Tales games. I don't know if I should.
Bianca on the front cover cause she's canon.
>FF 8
MUH NIGGA.
Wild Arms 2 is fantastic if you haven't played yet
Fuck Angol Moa
Agree
Why marry that Italian guy's daughter?
Yeah I played DQXI on PC, it's great. It's like a sequel to VIII gameplay and general feel-wise which is definitely not a bad thing. Gonna pick it up of the Switch too.
My only problem with the game is that it's too fucking long. I gave up right before the trials I have finished everything else story related. I can't fucking do it anymore
I haven't seen any Flora waifufags
It's always Bianca or Debora
What a pretentious post.
>Lunar SSSC
>Final Fantasy VII
>Breath of Fire III
>Legend of Dragoon
>Paper Mario TTYD
>Dragon Quest III, V and VIII (can't decide which is better)
>Soul Hackers
>SaGa Frontier 2
Too bad the gameplay is shit
You pick Debora because she's the true best girl.
You pick Flora if you're a NTRfag.
For me, it's bianca's daughter
Yeah, a lot of Dragon Quest games tend to hit this point where it feels like it should be over, but then you've still got 15-20 hours left. It's not that I'm complaining about more content, but generally there comes a point when Dragon Quest gameplay wears out its welcome; you've already got all the best spells and abilities and you know what the endgame is gonna be, so you just wanna get it over with.
Does anyone know if 2D mode in XI will have classic combat?
By that I mean when you have to input the moves for the whole party before anyone moves.
Stop sucking japanese wet dream
So is the DS version the best version to play?
Yes
Yea I finished the other games too. 7 had the same problem as well. I wanted to just watch the ending for 11 on YouTube but it didn't feel right. I'll beat calasmos one day. 5 was really the best in terms of pacing and story we need a remake
Yes it will.
There's an IOS version of the game. Has anyone played that and is it worth getting?
Just emulate the DS version.
It did in the 3DS version
The mobile ports for DQ 1-6 are all fantastic. 4-6 in particular are straight ports of the DS versions. 4 mobile is the definitive version since it adds back in the party chat. 5 on mobile is just as good as the DS version.
The Android/IOS versions are the only complete english versions since the english DS versions cut a lot of party chat.
Chrono Trigger is unironically the best jrpg I have ever played, the only thing You could actually complain about is the difficulty of the game, which was in my opinion way too easy. But there is obviously a lot of good jrpgs, unfortunately this is not happening anymore.
It's just the DS version but without buttons
The only definitive mobile version is IV
Only for IV dummbby
DS V and VI have party chat
>legend of Dragoon
good story/towns/environments but the combat is pretty trash compared to most jrpgs and character customization is basically nonexistent.
>FF5
>SaGa Frontier
>EO 3
>Genius of Sappheiros
are my favorites
dragon quest IV is the best
>added in smash
based as fuck
Well, at least it forces you do something during battles. I just wish you could turn off their voices. It's so annoying listening to
>DIE! More and more!
3850+ times.
Also I remembered
>Xenogears
>Breath of Fire 2
It's all coming back to me
>Legend of Dragoon
my nigga
Best taste
But not the female protag for some fucking reason
>inb4 i hate women and minorities
ok fine no sfm porn for you
Too bad the gameplay is shit
You mind explaining this, faggot?
>curious about 5
>want to play it
>5 for SNES wasn't ported to NA
>3DS is broken
>only have Vita
FUCK
Pirate the phone version.
anonfile.com
All of the ports are pretty good except for 3's, which removed content like Pachisi boards and enemy animations. It still plays fine, but if you care about the extra details and mini games then I suggest emulating 3 instead
you know the DS is emulatable right
The SNES and PS2 too
And it has a fan translation for those versions
Yeah I know. 3 is really the only one I would suggest emulating on your phone over getting the mobile version. The removed content is still crazy to me. No enemy animations, no pachisi, and no GBC bonus dungeon. Just baffling to me.
I like DQV simply because of the story. You start the game as young boy on a quest with his father, and you end the game as a father on a quest with his children. I'm a sucker for those kinds of stories.
Take off the nostalgia goggles. those games (except Grandia) age badly.
>father is killed by monsters before his eyes, but not before he learns that his mother is still alive
>said monsters then proceed to kidnap him and some whiny prince and force them into ten years of slave labor
>they eventually escape, only to discover that his childhood village was razed to the ground because his father was blamed for the prince's disappearance
>he still helps the prince find his way home and marry a nun
>after several years of wandering the world with monsters as his only company, he eventually reunites with and marries his childhood sweetheart, finds out that he's royalty, and becomes the father of twins
>but his mom is still missing, and a note from his father reveals that he has to look for the chosen one that's destined to put a stop to the demon slave cult, which isn't him, so he can't have his revenge
>then the same asshole monsters show up AGAIN and turn him and his wife into stone for another eight years, so he can't raise his own children, or even watch them grow up
>he's forced to helplessly as the son of the family who buys him gets kidnapped by monsters, and the dad beats the shit out of him in a fit of grief-induced rage
>after finally getting freed by his kids, he travels the world with them for another two years until he's reunited with his wife
>turns out the destined hero is actually his son - even the game changes his in-game description to "Hero's Father"
>after travelling to the demon world, he finally meets and rescues his mother... and then she dies a few minutes later
PS2 emulation on Vita? What the fuck?
>Trojan
Yeah fuck you too son
That user is just informing you that you can emulate PS2 on PC.
>mother disappears shortly after you're born
>watch father get murdered before your eyes
>spend 10 years enslaved by his killers
>finally break free and get married
>you and your wife get turned to statues and separated after having children
>finally find your mother years later, only to watch her die as well
Ludo
One thing that DQV doesn't get enough credit for is how personal it feels. In most games with a silent protag there are some experiences that occur before the game that you're only told about, like the DQVIII MC being a soldier. But in DQV you actually live out the character's entire life. It really makes everything feel a lot more meaningful.
*forced to helplessly watch
>royally fucked in the ass: the game
At least he was able to avenge the fallen. But shit man.
Now I want to play DQ5 again, to bad my DS is dead.
Does mobile version has Bianca?
Which one is a trojan? I found and downloaded all of these myself. I just scanned them again with an anti virus program and an anti malware program and got an all clear. Are you sure you didn't get a false positive user?
>only have Vita
You poor bastard.
The mobile version is straight port of the DS version. It's all there.
>get into smash
>stuck in final smash hell
Even in spinoffs he's suffering
Look at his luck stat in the early part of the game.
There's a fan translation for V SNES if Vita really is your only option.
the trumpets in the opening cinematic never fail to get me hyped
At least we get Erdrick's alt costume.
Are the 3DS games any good? I'm thinking of trying them.
DQ7 is great. Better than the PS1 original
DQ8 is really fucking good. It has shittier overworld graphics than the original PS2 graphics, but the improved perfomance, new features and non random encounters make it way better
DQ10, 11 and the rocket slime spinoff are never ever
There's a completed fan translation of DQ monsters 1 which is fun
Which ones? DQ7 and 8? They are great. 73DS streamlines the opening of 7 and makes the class system less grindy and 83DS has more content than the PS2 version, although it looks and sounds worse. The extra content is worth it imo.
>There's a completed fan translation of DQ monsters 1 which is fun
Goddamn it, why didn't they just release it in the west? Why doesn't SE want my money?
>the DQVI hero got cucked out of Smash by a random party member
Was VI really that bad? I got to the Demon World before quitting, but I liked the class system.
It's ok, he'll be a goku alt in the next DLC
>Style is a stat
More like Swag-on Quest.
At least he's still a king in his 20's by the time it's over thanks to statue nonsense, he's got a long life ahead of peace.
DQ 5 doesn't work.
>>DQ7 is great. Better than the PS1 original
Doesn't it cut content?
>picking the canon girl
how very boring
Odd. That's the exact one I use on my phone. I mean "werks on my machine" aside, I'm not sure what went wrong. Do the others work for you?
Yes. They removed the puzzle dungeon from the beginning of the game, which speeds up the opening by a matter of hours. I think they should've left it in and tweaked them a bit since the puzzle beginning parts in the PS1 version went on a little too long imo, but yeah. Everything else is a straight upgrade to me.
I think it takes out some annoying running around. Also it has something which alerts you to missed stone slabs which would really come in handy because holy shit you will be backtracking dungeons like crazy in the ps1 version
DQ2 works, DQ 5 I had to download something so it won't work
Did you copy over the data folder to the obb folder on your phone?
The stuff with the horse is just a meme, but you actually cuck some other guy if you marry Flora.
Oh yeah so that's why. It works now
they sped up the beginning (Jesus Horii what the fuck was you thinking with the original), your appearance now changes with your class, and grinding is made easier with the new function.
>threads of fate
>turn based
Nigga what? ToF is a 10/10 game but it sure as hell isn't turn based
well if its so good why isnt he in smash ?
>level up
>Luck +0
T-thanks...
It's foreshadowing.
Two things
1: He's the only hero in the series whose default weapon isn't a sword
2: He's not actually the "hero" of his game
He shows up in the final smash so 2 is absolutely not the reason, they have no issue using him as the rep of 5. They just wanted them all to be magic swordsmen, not magic staffmen.
>all the other heroes wield swords in their official artwork
>Madason uses a staff in his art
>his son worlds a sword in his art
They were basically telling you who the hero actually was from the very beginning.
The final boss requires grinding up the ass. Ruined my experience. You can't even save after the first 12 phases.
He's also the only hero who can't use Zap magic(I and II's heroes can't either, but Zap wasn't introduced until III). His son can, though.
Where should i start with Dragon Quest?
Im playing the ps2 version (Fan Translated) and its fantastic. Love the really fast battle pace and focus on a good story. m,onster recruiting is fun too
3 then 5 then 8. if you love them play the rest in order. kinda how I did it except i went 3 - 8 - 5
The creator personally recommends IV
III, V and VIII are fan favorites
Anywhere, but if you hate SNES then start at 7.
1 and 2 are balls hard without proper guide and you will end up hating the series
too bad they put that horrible shit character as the third spouse option in that version. I was clueless and ended up marrying her. Don't do this, she makes the game shittier. Only marry the girl on the cover.
Too bad you have shit taste.
Couldn't finish it. The only game in the series I think this one is better than is the second game.
the job system is nice though.
III then V then VIII
If you liked III the most, play XI
If you liked V the most, play IV
If you liked VIII the most, play XI
Then play the rest I guess
>1
>needing a guide
8 or 11
Shit taste. Bianca is easily worst girl.
Shit meant "If you like III the most, play IX"
Reveal made me want to play more of the DQ's. I finished all of 11 and the post-game content though all the references flew over my head.
I'm starting with 1 on mobile and just going through them consecutively. Wish me luck boys.
>Legend of Legaia
Absolutely based. Legaia 2 is also really good imo if you haven't played it. I honestly never beat the first one, but I've beaten the second one like twice.
>implying worst girl isn't the one who sleeps when you're considering who to marry
Do you enjoy being treated by shit by NPCs? yeah that's that character.
What a horrible addition to the game, as far as I know she's a joke character.
IIRC she's the best wife for Metal Slime hunting
1 is a fucking archaic grindfest but it's short and has a charm of its own I guess
I couldn't finish DQ5. I don't really get the hype. DQVIII is one of my favorite JRPGs, but I felt like I was just able to click through every single random encounter in DQ5 without thinking. It got kinda boring, though the story was pretty interesting.
If I'm not mistaken, that game is the one where you have to get an item and requires you to blindly go into one of those poisoned tile bullshit to reveal a castle.
they're all self-contained like Final Fantasy so anywhere is fine
Personally I would suggest avoiding I-III because they are very antiquated and IX because it's just kinda shit
At least she treats you nice. Unlike Deborah, who will always nag you and treat you like a subhuman even after you have kids with her.
My plan is just to put on a podcast or something and space out. I'm an autist who actually enjoys grinding.
Probably, she uses a whip. But You can tame monsters in that game, you almost never use the human characters in DQV.
>she actually makes you sleep on the floor on your wedding night
Do not avoid III you fucking retard it's one of the best
Play the fan translated SNES version
Of course the fucking NES version is antiquated you retard that's why no one plays it
Whenever someone recs III, they mean the SNES version
yeah she's such a lovely character.
Any VI bros here? Most underrated DQ
I remember liking it a lot when playing it, but for some reason it never stuck with me the same way DQ4, 5 and 8 did.
such a retarded game, my god.
>durr you have to go fetch the magic carpet
>ok forget the matgic carpet, what you really need is the boat
>ok you got the boat but did you know you can get the flying boat, that's the one to get
>ok forget the flying boat, you can just teleport everywhere
Pointless.
VII is my favorite
I honestly found it pretty meh but whatever I guess
>not the Hero
BULLSHIT
Is 8 good? I heard 11 is one of the best but the design for the protag of 8 is really good
He's a Hero, just not THE Hero.
yes, 8 and 5 are generally considered the best in the franchise
Why does Wild Arms suck? I have it in my backlog because anime cowboys.
3-5-8 are the holy trinity of DQ
11 is very good too, it's like a spiritual successor to 8
8 is pretty nice, as a eurofag it was my first DQ game. I played it around the same time I played FF12 and absolutely preferred DQ8. It was the first game that made me think that maybe Enix was the better half of that company.
Me, but I got curbstomped by the final boss and never got around to finishing it and put it off for too long. But now I got a chance to replay it since it's all fresh for me
isn't that the game that let's you grind Metal Slime Kings in the last area? That makes the last boss much easier to beat.
I played 4,5,6 on the iphone and they’re so damn good
Use drastic or desmume if you want to play on PC.
Hero is too similar with Dragon Ball Super. Can't have that.
3 is the best in the series.
4 for "what the fuck was the writer thinking"
5 for cliche childhood friend get cucked
which one is the one where you fight a castle and enter in a heaven's garden type of area? I really liked that part of the game but can't remember where it was from.
I think it's the one where you hunt parts of the legendary equipment so it might be the fourth game?
>3 is the best in the series
Nostalgia goggles are a hell of a drug.
Who's this guy? DQ Swords protag?
well, compared to 1,4, 5
for some reason I can't never remember 2 though.
Is the fan translatin for V any good? I want to play it but I hate gaming on portable systems/ mobile
>I want to play it but I hate gaming on portable systems
you absolute pleb
for a good reason. that game was pure cancer.
DQ X
>It was an MMORPG
I forgot that.
Too bad the gameplay is shit
>NEVER EVER
T-they will make an offline version called X-2 complete with full story, right?
I found the combat of every DQ I've played boring except DQXI with the hard mode. Did I do something wrong?
No, the gameplay is where these games stumble a bit. If you want great RPG combat that plays similarly to DQ go play Wizardry.
Give me a list of which versions (NES, SNES, PS1 , PS2, DS, 3DS, PS4, SWITCH, MOBILE) are the best for each game
Dragon Quest V probably has the most well earned heartwarming happy ending of any game I ever played.
After all that strife and suffering he gets to live the rest of his life in peace and happiness with his wife and children.
It doesn't get any better than this.
6
Yep.
it's kinda bullshit his wife didn't cuck him with a black man desu
I - SNES and GBC technically, NES version looks the best though IMO
II - SNES
III - SNES
IV - Mobile
V - DS or mobile
VI - DS or mobile
VII - 3DS
VIII - 3DS
IX - DS
X - PC
XI - Switch
see
Madason is too Chad for that to happen.
>least pretentious, most sincere
Youre literally saying words but not backing anything up
Retard
play the game dummy
The CG trailers that they release for that game always looks so awesome and it gets me jealous that we will never see the game here.
>implying the daughter wasn't kidnapped by surviving followers of the demon cult the following day
not that guy, DQ5 also doesn't work on my phone.
Yes, I copied the files, I use this chinese phone with extra tight security (Need to go through many hoops just to install some apps) and sometimes app just don't work here.
then I check the playstore for the official game, but
>$20
wtf SE
why didn't they put a dq collection on switch
Assuming Madchen fought Nimzo alongside her family she would easily be able to wipe out any of them with ease, they literally couldn't do it. Nimzo was more powerful than the fucking Goddess.
>blindly
ha, brainlet. The game gives you ample hints where exactly to search in the swamp when you bother to talk to people.
Probably because VII and V don't have female variations
>legend of dragoon
>ff4
>ff5
>ff6
>paladins quest
$20 is only a lot because it's a phone game
You'd totally buy the DS version for that price no problem
Is Chrono Trigger in your top 3? It better be.
>chinese phone with extra tight security
I'm so sorry user.
1 and 2 are both on Gameboy Color, I would suggest him playing it both on GBC.
>no Valkyrie Profile

Is DQ7 comfy?
I have it in my 3DS backlog
my top 3 is FFIV, Persona 4 Golden and DQVII
there, I've managed to time travel to the early 2000's and successfully market the series in America, where's my money
Aren't the mobile versions of I to III good too?
what the hell are you talking about?
Sadly, he use a long sword.
Would be a perfect echo to Ike.
>Grandia
ITT: Jrpg moments where your eyes sweated
>episode 4 never
Do you mean the classic fantasy feel where it plays several tropes straight without trying to subvert or anything?
Spoilers for DQ5.
The part where you go back in time and talk to your younger self. At that time you will probably remember that you talked to, well you, in the past back in the beginning of the game. You tell yourself to take care of your dad and keep your head high no matter what happens.
>Super Saiyan Blue Goku
>Tanned and shaved Nappa
>Android 18, literally just Android 18
>Bulma with red hair dye
>Kid Gohan with glasses
>Kid Trunks Blanco
I will once the Switch version is out
kino moment, especially for idiots who somehow didnt remember meeting him in the beginning like me
/SS/ a shit
>tfw played pretty much every DQ game released in the West
>only enjoyed the Joker games and Rocket Slime
I really want to like DQ but I just can't get into it. It's visually charming and I like the writing, but the gameplay is so basic.
Yeah I was the same way. It had a nice impact on me and as I got older it resonated with me more.
>eye sweated
Basically crying?
Hey guys, i'm downloading 11 right now and it'll be my first DQ game. Is it a good introduction to the series? How about how good of a game overall?
Golden Sun, hands down, it's one of the most comfy turn based rpgs. They nailed pretty much everything in those two games.
but the music, man, it's one of the best OSTs
youtube.com
this was peak Motoi Sakuraba
What's your dream Dragon Quest game?
Just download SNES Dragon Warriors game, and if you liked one, then you most likely will like all of them.
1&2 are special cases because NES games fucking suck!
>tfw you try to warn your father but he doesn't listen
The whole game is high-octane feels fuel.
Yes and yes.
I've heard Golden Sun is pathetically easy even by JRPG standards
the entire story aged well for me too. Poor dude cant catch a fucking break but keeps going
in da future
Yes and yes. 11 is fantastic.
God that part was so rough man. Imagine being in that situation. There is truly nothing you can do to change his fate.
>Tfw Sakuraba will never be this good again probably
Golden Sun was just ok for me but I always keep coming back to its ost.
I posted this before but I always wanted to play a Monster Rancher-like Dragon Quest game.
thanks
now the big question
can I marry any of the girls I want to or am I stuck with only like 2 or 3 choices
>spoiler
>the way mc's title changes as you go through the game
>the way it did pankraz's death scene
>using bianca's ribbon to avoid fighting saber
I love how the game is so subtle about these things, it makes it even better. You could go through the game and easily miss a lot of the characterization like this.
Golden Sun is good, but for me Baten Kaitos will always be peak Sakuraba.
youtube.com
They're from the same time period though, so I guess it makes sense. Golden Sun does get bonus points for having such a killer soundtrack in a damn GBA game.
>7
absolutely based
never played it, but I loved being able to create my MC and party in DQ9. They should bring that back.
>pick up DQ 11
>absolutely love it for the first 7 hours
>get based Sylvando
>suddenly shitty stealth segment as knights invade a town looking for me
>get past the billion shitty knight enemies with too much HP
>knight leader guy is the boss
>attacks twice in one turn
>near oneshots my party
>this is after fighting every enemy I came across previously too
>can't grind because every enemy gives shit exp especially the knights who take forever to kill but give me fuck all
>every time I die on the boss I have to do the shitty stealth segment again
I know I'm shit at the game apparently but this is legitimately too tedious for me to keep doing the stealth segment, especially when fleeing the knights isn't guaranteed and they take so long to kill unless I use all my MP
Is there not a romhack of IV that adds party chat back in....
Isn't the DQV protagonist getting his own movie? When is that coming out again?
>No mention of any Phantasy Star or Shining Force
as far as I can tell no, which is really annoying
Grind the knights, you can use the Inn, Church and stores during that segment so you can heal, regain mp and save as much as you want. You'll want to be level 16-17 for the fight so if you're nowhere near that then you haven't been doing enough fights.
I never owned a Sega console so I never got the chance to play those. If they localized Phantasy Star DS, that would have been my first Phantasy Star game.
>but emulators
I already have a huge backlog of games on my Vita and Nintendo Switch. I don't think I will ever have the time for those games. It's a guarantee for me that I'd probably spend at least a hundred hour playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 once it gets released.
11 has one girl to marry and it's a bonus boss wish choice. It has absolutely no effect on the content and and only changes a few line of dialogue. Marriage is only important in 5, and in the DS remake of 5 you get 3 choices.
The title changes are so damn great. I love them. Also the MC has terrible luck growth in the early levels, which you will mainly be in when the hero gets shit on the most. His luck normalizes in the later levels, which you will start to be in when you get married and when you have your kids. I love little stuff like that.
Have you played DQ3?
>posting 2 over 4
with how little EXP the knights give it's going to take actual hours of fighting them over and over to level up by any realistic degree. I forget what level I was when I stopped, but the last boss, the sand bug, was extremely easy for me and went down without any resistance and there was hardly any gaps between then and now in terms of gameplay flow, so what the fuck is this
I'm playing through Octopath now and that one is generally fine so far and I've never had to just grind to win, there's always been options where I can use items or exploit enemy weaknesses to get through tough fights. If the entire game is going to be boring grinding then maybe this isn't the series for me I guess.
is this game's story actually good? everyone says it's the most kino but I'm worried about the grind getting in the way of the flow of the narrative.
You don't need to grind THAT much, just don't run away from encounters and you'll be good for the most part
Anyone here played the PS2 remake of this game? There's an English patch out and I've been meaning to try it out.
Tales games are the worst cases of shitty generic anime RPGs.
this is the most contrarian-core jrpg list I've seen ever
I beat it. It looks kind of strange, but holy fuck the music is by far the best. And the fan translation doesn't rename every damn thing like the DS version does, less shitty accents too.
I think DQ6 is really underrated desu, I liked it way more than 7 for instance, even though fans of the series often call 6 an inferior version of 7.
I have and it's great. It uses the Symphonic renditions of the OST and the cutscenes look better with the 3D models imo. Great remake.
Because you can collect Djinns, and the more Djiins you collect the more badass summons you can use. Which makes the game a breeze, but it's also good if all you want is to feel powerful and continue the game. If you enjoy FF summons you would absolutely love the summons in these games
youtube.com
and everything carries over from the first game to the second, so the two games just feel like a massive game.
>golden sun
>ff6
>contrarian
I'll give you the others though.
I have, it's good. No Deborah, but it has 3D graphics and an orchestral soundtrack
Also you can choose between playing a "Dragon Warrior" translation(spell names lifted from the NES/GBC games) and a "Dragon Quest" translation(spell names lifted from Square-Enix's newer localizations)
It sounded like you never owned one so I don't blame you. I'd still recommend playing them if you can ever get free of your backlog, they're all fun and pretty short compared to jrpgs now (or you could just play Phantasy Star 4 and your pick of the first 2 Shining Force games got an idea). The first Phantasy Star is on switch as well.
But I posted the cap of 2 because it conveyed best how I felt.
how is the DS Golden Sun?
Even worse than the GBA ones
Same.
I never finished VII, but I really liked VI.
Only DQ games I have yet to beat are III, VII and obviously X.
Trash.
I only have access to my phone atm, which DQ games have the best ports on android and which one are better on emulators?
might as well ask the same for Final Fantasy
DQXI doesn't require a lot of grind, but you have to actually battle enemies when going through areas. If you skip every monster on the field then obviously you're not gonna level well enough.
The knights give decent exp and you can pretty much kill them in 4 multi-target spells (bang, zap, etc.). Have Sylv use Acceleratle (not Accelerate) so your party moves before the enemy. Serena should be using woosh any time she doesn't have to heal (don't heal when you have characters above 75% hp, it's a waste). When you get low on HP or MP, run to the inn and rest, you'll be getting a lot of gold so don't worry about spamming the inn.
Get everyone to level 16 and assign their skill points (triangle menu>misc>character builder). Serena also gets Midheal at 16, which can heal like 60+ HP. The boss will mainly fuck you up with his spells, so have Serena and Veronica use their anti-magic spell "Fizzle", which you should already have for Veronica, and Serena will get it at 15. Use Serena to Buff the party from there since all the boss can do is use physical attacks. Use Sylv's buffs like Acceleratle and his attack up. All buffs can stack twice as well, so using them twice will double the buff.
So if I wanted to get into the genre of turn based JRPGs, what are some of the best classics to play? Aside from stuff like Chrono Trigger and the FF games
IV lost some soul from its predecessor. Also, it was much easier.
Deborah is just tsundere. Occasionally her genuine love and worry for the hero leaks out of her bitchy persona. I bet she pampers him as an apology when they have sex, there's probably a lot of mommy-play.
Looking for more obscure one? well dragon quest of course, though thats pretty mainstream out east, wild arms games has some good ones, alter code F is a fun remake of the original wild arms.
if your into stopping to fight a strategy battle every so often there's the suikoden games, which also have like 180 fucking party members to collect.
and oh yes, if your a REAL badass, play Live a Live
Dragon Quest 1 can be beat in about 8 hours. Get the Dragon Quest I+II fantranslation for SNES since it's the best way to play.
it doesn't gotta be obscure, just not super maintstream
stuff like suikoden, which i still need to play
It's kinda like avatar.
As in there is an overarching narative, but it's kinda episodic.
You're on the run from this giant nation and you're traveling the world together with you merryband of colorful friends, so that you can realize your true power as the luminary/avatar.
Along the way you help people out who are plagued by shit like curses, monsters and other stuff like that.
You even get your ownZuko
What's Bulma and Trunks doing in the back
III's is very old, made for flip phones, so no enemy animations or pachisi
He nearly maxes out the luck stat if you get him to 99. 242/255. Every female maxes out the luck stat. The son only reaches 200 luck despite being the chosen hero.
and then they pull a ff6
Valkyrie Profile
He never loses hope. That's why he's awesome.
Toriyama only knows how to draw two characters and he does all the dragon quest art and design.
heck he did chrono trigger too.
toriyama really likes to reuse hairstyles
Im kind of basic with RPG genre in general because i played mostly of them in Nintendo consoles and are pretty common but, my favorites so far in general are:
>Chrono Cross
>Chrono Trigger
>Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
>Mario and Luigi Bowser inside History
>Paper Mario 64
>Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky
>Super Mario RPG
>Mother 3
>Earthbound
>Inazuma Eleven 2
>Rune Factory 3
>Dragon Dogma
>Xenoblade Chronicles
>South Park Stick of Truth
>Marvel Ultimate Aliance 1
People have mixed feelings about chrono cross...
isn't that the game where you get bodyswapped with the villain partway through and play the rest of the game in the villains body?
That was cool as shit too bad the kinda ruined it in the postgame.
11 would've been perfect if the post game was different.
You get your original body back about 3/4 through
Easy, with a lot of points of no return which make you miss out on some items and djinns. Plot is all over the place and the ending makes everything you did during the game pointless.
There's nothing wrong with it gameplay wise (other than being pretty basic) and I think the OST was pretty neat, though. It also looks pretty good for a DS game from what I can remember.
Sounds like DQIX if it had actual characters instead of generic mutes.
>but you actually cuck some other guy if you marry Flora.
You don't cuck him, she isn't with him period if you go this route
anyway just pick whoever appeals the most to you man, I dunno why people are obsessed with "the canon love interest" in games designed to let the player choose
It is less episodic than IX, so don't worry about that.
If you haven't seen the POST CREDIT cutscene, you're really missing out.
Cuck is just a synonym for stealing someone's woman now (and race traitor, thanks /pol/)
>3-5-8 are the holy trinity of DQ
Maybe in the west, but not where it matters. You can judge how popular something is by how much porn it gets, and in that regard DQVIII is a distant fourth. The porn for DQ VIII has kinda fizzled out, but DQ XI is still relevant with the switch release on the horizon. Goodbye fourth place, VIII-cucks
Things like Mario get relatively few doujins despite being the biggest franchise from game sales, though.
>You don't cuck him
>implying they aren't a pair and didn't want to marry each other long before you step into the picture
Sure, it's not exactly cucking, but still.
I cringed when I picked Nera out of curiosity and went to talk to Crispin, the guy was absolutely devastated.
You are a sad fucking cunt, holy shit
Mario is a platformer series, though. DQ is a JRPG series where each game has a lot of scenarios to make porn of.
He gets a bombshell of a wife though.
>Goalposts
that was a better post than you've ever made or ever will make, faggot
Basedboys
>VIII cuck thinks his game is relevant
>mfw he gets BTFO by DQ IV
>they aren't a pair and didn't want to marry each other long before you step into the picture
I always found it funny how Flora instantly drenched her panties when she saw you.
Like she was telling her dad how she didn't want him to do the whole marriage competition thing, but when she saw that you were competing she immediately dropped the issue and just let ir continue.
>using exhentai as some measure for popularity
wew lad
How much is left if you take out the ntr stuff?
>What's your dream Dragon Quest game?
a Dragon Quest kind of like the first Phantasy Star game, minimalist open world exploration with intricate first person dungeon crawling. The dungeon and world design really went to shit in the later DQs.
I bet 5 drops down a ton.
It's not exact, you're right. It's foolish to think even 10% of the DQ III doujins have been scanned since the game released. If you go by fan-art on pixiv, the top 3 are definitely III, IV, V, tho.
>these fucking Items with skills
>Life Rain, Sacrifice
every time
>not turning the western and non-h filters off
>english tag
Lucas from Mother 3 had it worse.
Caim has it worse 2B honest
Did he?
At the very least Madason got his happy ending. We don't even know that with Lucas.
I eventually came to like that Calasmos squashed me like a bug. X's difficulty runs the entire gamut from brain numbingly easy at the beginning to autismo NEET at the end. In a way this makes it one-size-fits-all and it gives me something to grind for when I eventually boot it up again. I also want to earn that true ending.
surprised VI is that high
Which JRPGs would I like if I care more about world building than I do the main story in games?
Maybe try SMT: Nocturne. It's plot is very minimalist but it's atmosphere is on another level.
Calasmos is actually beatable without the plot item that fucks his defenses, I almost did it blind but RNG eventually caught up with me. So when I replayed I just did it normally, still a decent challenge if you don't use Magic Burst
>Hack 3DS
>Try to play DQ9 ROM
>Freezes after character creator
>Try ROM from Dragon Quest General
>Same thing
>Dump ROM myself
>Still same issue
What the fuck, is there some sort of anti-piracy patch I can't seem to find?
I just want to replay it without getting rid of my old save, all the ROMs work on DeSmuMe
DQV on ps2 or ds?
DS
first thing that came to mind, though the story is still pretty good
Maybe it's a problem in whatever you are using to play the rom on your 3ds. I forgot what it's called, but I don't think that program or whatever works with every game.
I often hear people say that trails in the sky is excellent for that, but its starts off really slow, which is why I haven't gotten past the first 3 hours of the game, even after multiple tries. Try it though, you might like it.
Yeah, it's straight out of some japanese porn comic. It's pretty ridiculous.
I always had the impression that IX was a massive hit and yet it barely got any fanart. I think your method of determining popularity is really inaccurate.
Twilight Menu doesn't work with everything
Check the compatibility page
You might need to use DS scene rom tool to strip the anti-piracy, I know DQV works after you do that
Not gonna lie, E3 made me want a switch just to have a handheld jrpg machine. I didn't even know there was 16 bit DQXI in japan. I'm so fucking hyped for Romancing Saga 3, I impulse bought 2 on ps4 and I hate the flash/mobile game looking art.
it's the purple turban
girls can't resist it
the 3DS and Vita are better handheld JRPGs currently
Ps2 version is uglier but has a better translation and orchestral music.
I really don't get why people suggest the ds version of DQV, it's still pretty ugly looking and the English translation is bad.
jrpgs are better on handhelds
Yeah, 3ds was my favorite jrpg too.
Thanks, friends.
What are these anyway? Did DQV get a tv show?
I used the scene tool for DQ5, it couldn't find anything for DQ9
Are there any alternates to Twilight?
VI is my favourite DQ
>best class system
>real/dream world consequences
>best party chat
It barely made a difference.
Oh man we're popping a cherry, look up yoshihiko and the demon king's castle, it's a parody show with basically no budget whatsoever,, parodies rpg's, with a focus on dragon quest because thats super popular in japan.
though they do go to a final fantasy town once...
anyways there's like 3 or more seasons of this shit.
Hacked my 3DS yesterday literally to play as many DQ games as possible before XI comes out on Switch (I have a PS4 and PC but I don't feel like playing DQ on a non portable device)
Since this guy didn't factor in that -english doesn't remove all of the spic, chink and baguette translations, AND used the western and non-h tags, I did my own research. The following are the results using the -translated tag (meaning it's the raw content).
Raw lewd content results
DQ3: 988
DQ5: 523
DQ4: 490
DQ8: 216
DQ11: 179
DQ2: 100

DQ9: 39
DQ7: 36
DQ1: 9

I have it. Forced portrait mode and touch control ruined it for me. Can't see myself putting 50h into a game when my finger starts getting warm and uncomfortable after 5mn of play.
I actually finished 1 and 2 recently and I found them to be fun. They were the mobile version so maybe they were rebalanced but 2 wasn't as bad as what everyone says.
you filter the korean translations too? and the russian ones? they tend to be on sadpanda too.
The Hero Yoshihiko and The Demons Castle. Top tier jap comedy that parodies jrpgs, DQ the most. Funny as hell.
god I love melubs useless spells.
Bonus;
DQM: 15 results, and only one of those is bestiality
The tag "-translated" filters out all translated uploads, so everything should be raw Japanese. I doubt there's any gook webtoons of Dragon Quest.
>Since this guy didn't factor in that -english doesn't remove all of the spic, chink and baguette translations, AND used the western and non-h tags
I autofilter every translation except english, it's an option in the settings. My raw results excluded a few more than yours did, so you might have screwed up one of the exclusionary terms.
forgot to link to
doing the important research user.
Legend of Mana all the way
How're the mobile versions of the Zenithian games? I already played them all on the DS but my DS hasn't been functional for years and I'm out too much to emulate. They at least functional or am I better off finding another way?
I gotta recommend Trails in the Sky as well, but as someone who has finished it. The world building spans multiple games and gets more and more indepth as the games in the series go on.
4-6 on mobile are ports of the DS remakes. 4 has party chat added back in. 1-3 are great versions, although 3 is missing a few minor things.
The mobile version of IV is the only officially translated version that has party chat
V and VI are identical to the DS versions IIRC, but the soundfont is a little different
What non-RPGmaker JRPGS have customization?
this. i don't get why faggots do this with persona or shit like fate. boggles my goddamn mind.
Android emulators exist, and .apk files of games are pitifully easy to find, I play IV on an android emulator at my computer man.
Customization how? Dragon Quest 9 has customization.
I used "dragon_quest_x$" without the parody tag, so maybe there's just some poorly tagged uploads.
I found a manga gallery with someone's totally-not-Maribelle OC that doesn't show up in the search results for DQ VII.
exhentai.org
God know how many DQ inspired hentai works there are, the entire Isekai genre is soaked in Dragon Quest.
Besides the DQ games, I'm lookin for stat allocation or class choosing and custom names.
I find it strange with DQ V being the most popular there that it's protagonist isn't playable in smash
Am I the only one who actually kinda likes the modern localizations? Especially the spell names. The only gripe I have with 3 SNES is that the fan translation mainly sticks to the naming conventions from the NES/GBC games
Well the Etrian Odyssey games have class choosing and custom names, but no stat allocation. SMT4 has stat allocation and custom name, but no classes.
Translation when
>Mighty Zoom
But I'm a boomer!
Etrian Odyssey games are pretty nice. Dark Spire if you wanna go full old-school autism mode.
No, I think the accents are only bad in the remakes of I-V (haven't played VI).
The fucking Zenithia dragon having a flanders accent right at the end of V at a moment that otherwise would have been kind of reflective, shit like that takes away from the experience. But in IX and moreso VIII I think they did a good job with the puns and such.
Bazap
Play SNES Wizardry 1-3.
the first three Etrian games had some minor stat allocation, though in 3 it's only HP/TP
They've become better over time, the problem is they exaggerate things like accents or turn normal lines into awkward puns amd such.
DQ is silly, yes, but you don't to make literally every line some silly shit.
I prefer the modern translations at more and I started with dragon warrior I/II on GBC as a kid
Probably never, Maribelle fans can't find. The only reason I found it was because of the inverted nipples tag.
me I hated the new spell names, I know it tried to imitate the Japanese naming convention but it made the spell list look like a TBBT episode
The secret boss was the best thing ever.
fuck, this looks way better already.
>Vivify
>Explodet
>HealMore
and all is well again.
Ah man that was the coolest thing any secret boss has ever done in DQ to date. That was such a treat.
Divine Barrier? Lame.
What about this?
What language is that?
It's a romhack designed to be a more literal translation of the Japanese version of Dragon Quest, uncensored and all
meant to reply to
Test
I wanna replay 8
It's gonna be ps2 version because 3ds looks bad
Did it work?
Yes
Holy shit, someone in the comments linked a tankoubon full of OC's, including Jessica. How many Not-Jessica's are out there? Am I going to have to comb through every gallery tagged with Large Breasts to find out? Why is sadpanda's tagging so retarded when it comes to homages and artists with the same localized name?
3ds has postgame content, two new party members, and lets you marry Jessica. If none of thatvmatters to you then yeah, play the ps2 original.
No
I like the onomatopoeic spell names. I hear Oomph and I know something is gonna hit hard.
Maybe
Just curious, anyone know what the spells names in Japanese are a reference to? I was watching the Japanese smash trailer for the new hero and they translated ルーラー as "Leap" and other similar stuff
I don't know.
That's rough buddy.
Can you repeat the question?
At least a few are Japanese puns. For example, Frizz is known there as Mera, which is a play on "mera mera", which means "burst into flames"
That's zoom. I heard some others as mera, merazoma, raiden, and megante. Those are frizz, kafrizzle, zap, and kamikazee.
Just epic, lads.
>Magic Poof
Noice.
On paper it should be a better, less bloated 7, but it's just missing that 'something'. It's completely forgettable.
If/when they remake V again are they gonna give us the option to steal Harry's nun waifu?
If you have a hacked 3ds, you can use cheats that let you reassign skill points whenever you want. It's pretty great being able to switch from maining spears to maining swords whenever I want. Also you forgot to mention that DQVIII on 3ds removed random encounters.
>the least pretentious
Explain
>you can steal your bro's girl
>horse ntr becomes canon
just imagine
read the thread manbaby.
or don't you know how to use a spoon yet? spoonfeed yourself now.
Ba-Bang!
I like it
She can turn into a fucking dragon, dude.
What if at the part where you talk to your future/past self it has voice acting?
Maybe they'd give him a little sister who also gets captured by the demon cult
>Zenithian Hero with green hair
Oh it's a shitpost, my bad
You're not very good at this
It was pretty awesome how later on your party members are your own family. I havent seen any other game do that. It was wholesome talking to your children while you traveled.
>implying dragon pussy is a deterrent
I wonder if he's grown to hate spikes, but people who hire him keep asking for more spikes.
>Bianca with the Cockney accent talking about ghost-hunting over and over and over
What DQ do I feel like replaying?
Not this one. Is the longest RPG I have ever played. Jesus Christ.
7 of course. The PS1 version obviously.
Have you played DQVII? PS1 version to be exact.
It's only 30-ish hours long. VII and VIII are much, much longer than that.
11 on switch so you can experience putting a child sized wedding ring on Veronica.
How much of an issue are bootlegs of the DS versions? I wanna buy IV and V but have heard fakes are out there.
Maybe I'll actually try it on my vita. I like the look better than the 3DS version. Is it orchestral?
Radiata Stories.
The devs pretty much worked on making the world first, then the story that takes place in it second, and you can really feel the effect of that, as well as what got cut and could've been.
It was pretty clear that there were gonna be multiple protagonists at some point to give you a feel of different guilds, but that was clearly too large a load to handle. It's sad, cuz Lily was clearly one of them.
Only if you have a soft modded 3DS.
I don't really like Bianca but I always feel wrong not picking her with how obviously she's meant to be the bride. Wish they had made an effort to build up the other girls.
I've played the 3DS version, is the PS1 version orchestral though?
Now that you mention it, his characters haven't been spiky in like 20 years
I'm going to try out Dragon Quest with IX, got the ds cart for cheap. Any beginners advice? I played and loved Rocket Slime but that's the only DQ thing I've touched before this
I cast holy heal on you all
Maybe it's because I played the PS2 fan-translation, where she just talks like a country bumpkin and doesn't talk about ghost-hunting that often, but I feel the same way.
>the night before the Hero has to choose who he wants to marry
>Bianca spends it looking outside the window, and if you talk to her she'll discuss her emotions with you at length
>Flora/Nera just sleeps
It's like they didn't even try.
I actually revisited every single location when I got the whole family together to check all the new party chat, it was great.
I have only played DQ5 and the DS game. I just entered the thread to let you all know I fucking hate those silver slimes.
It's a billion times better than what they pulled in the original SNES version. Game just straight-up guilt trips you if you choose Flora.
Meanwhile, the DS version doesn't pull that bullshit and she's an absolute angel of a wife. Doesn't shit up every party chat conversation with references to that time you went ghost-hunting, too.
No
THERE IT IS. YOU CUNT.
Only ever played DQV on the DS and I am just jumping into this thread to let you know I just bought IV for android to dab on you niggas
Get a Gladiator, Paladin, Sage and Priest for your final party line-up.
You get more skill points if you level multiple classes. Spend your skill points on your specific class tree, the benefits transfer over even if you decide to switch later. If you overdo this the game becomes piss easy, though
for christsakes man, use one of those stupid "low chance to hit but always crits" moves on them.
that's not a bad idea though,
IV on mobile has party chat
play it on an android emulator so you aren't playing it hunched over a fucking phone.
He only played 5. Those don't exist in 5. I think the Hela Hammer has a similar effect, but he probably didn't use that.
Holy Oomph. Sorry boys, I got the best one
those moves don't exist in dqv, dude.
What you have is the Hella Hammer, and you get that pretty late.
Your actual best bet early on is the falcon knife earrings, since they hit twice but actually still retain the ability to crit.
DQ seems like a series full of S O U L. I'm really tempted to try it out
'tis so
>that one hill in IX that was full of (liquid) metal slimes
>postgame area, so I had the skills to kill them pretty easily
>still got annoyed when I missed and they ran away
What's up with those little guys, is it the silly smile?
Fleurette was such a waste.
wew not when you're posting that ugly ass remake
Alright lads, I know jack and shit about SaGa. What is it and why should I play it?
>NONE of the SNES games made it out of Japan
>the only PSX DQ was localized after the PS2's launch and looked uglier than FF7
What were they thinking?
I think the biggest problem is they just go overboard with the accents. VIII did it first and the best, cold place is Russian, Casino is American because Vegas, prison island is Australian, island with Tibetan clothing and architecture sounded asian-ish, and the rest was all some variation of British accents because medieval. It was inconsistent but it didn't go overboard. IV made Alena Russian because of her hat, V's were so bad it ruined the game because they had to give funny accents to the villains as well as the human NPCs. Kind of ruins the horror of watching your dad getting murdered when the bosses are making Yakov Smirnov jokes.
The puns are fine, but when the accents actually start hurting the story you need to dial it the fuck back. VI, VII, I and XI were okay for the most part, but it still hurts what they did to V. Onomatopoeic spells are fine and tonally appropriate for the franchise.
the ps2 version
GET FUCKED
>He hates that Count Uptaten talks like The Count
Leave. Now.
>soul
>comfy
what the fuck does that even mean, you cunts? Being warm and sleeping? Fuck off.
Literally grinding those fuckers in III without any crit-only attacks
Shit's painful
Thanks
Got it, I usually use something similar in Etrian Odyssey anyway (Phys bruiser/tank/magic bruiser/healer/wild card) so it sounds nice and balanced. Don't mind it being a bit easy, as long as it's not Pokemon tier easy I'm good.
I kept waiting for Ragnarok and it took me until the end to remember it's just one of Issac's spells.
You measure a value of a game on its porn? You’re either 24 years old or desperate to fit in. And both are somehow sadder that that fat fuck’s post.
Son, don’t ever reply to me again, you monumental fucking totem to your parent’s failure.
I've never played a Final Fantasy before, last digit of my post will be the one I start (0 can be Type-zero I guess)
How fucked am I?
weird thing to ask here.
That question can be answered more eloquently on the /vr/ thread, but let me give you the tl;dr
>what is it?
An experimental JRPG series that is heavily inspired by old-fashioned open world CRPGs like Ultima 4, moreso than other contemporary JRPGs like FF.
>why should I play it?
It's very open-ended and deep mechanically. It expects you to be patient and observant, rewarding you with rich gameplay.
here's also a pastebin
pastebin.com
that's the one I started with. Definitely not a bad choice for beginners.
Top 3
Mother 3
Super Mario RPG
Dragon Quest 8
Dragon Quest 6
Romancing Saga 2
Chrono Trigger
I like this idea.
In DQ3, is it important that you change your party member's jobs at that shrine later on or can you just rock whatever?
I never finished it, but I loved the class changing in Blue Dragon. What are the best JRPGs with class change as a major mechanic?
Your posts are really low effort and not entertaining to read. You're just insulting people. The posts you responded to were confrontational, but they had some measure of wit and abstract thinking behind them. They're posts designed to foster conversation, not stifle it. If anyone needs to fuck off, it's you.
You don't have to, but if you do, your party members' current stats will be halved
It's the only way to get warriors/fighters who can use magic, for example
*halved, and they'll roll back to level 1
FFT, FFTA and FFTA2 are good SRPGs with fun class systems, though I guess most games in the genre have something similar now.
As for typical JRPGs FFV is great, and I hear the Bravely games have a similar system.
>Forgetting the part where even after having experiencing all the bullshit, he tells his younger self to never give up no matter what happens.
He was a man after my own heart.
>your party members' current stats will be halved
So basically they end up as a stronger level 1 and will grow even stronger by the time they are back up? Does it super matter then what you start as, cause it sounds like you can course correct later if you don't like a class.
dragon quest vi
dragonquest.fandom.com
>9 basic classes
>mastering certain combos of them (priest x mage for example) (through battle count not xp) lets you learn the hybrid class (7 hybrid classes)
>skills and spells learned are permanently learned by your character even if you swap classes so you can master all classes and reap the rewards of them all
>best girl is locked behind marriage
Fucking Japan.
forgot to mention there's two secret classes
Which one has the best pacing?
It's ironic that Nimzo is by far the easiest final boss in DQ.
I don't understand, are you saying you want the hero to marry his daughter?
>cause it sounds like you can course correct later if you don't like a class.
Well that's more or less what I did.
Turning Warrior into Fighter fixed his shit agility which dragged him down. Imo agility is the best stat in early DQ.
Turning Thief into Sage capitalized on her MASSIVE MP and agility to make an excellent sage.
6 or 3. But 6 really represents the core of what the series is about and what it ultimately became. It's the game that modernized the series, atleast on SNES.
That's not even remotely true when Rhapthorne exists and Nimzo can actually do a lot of damage and take forever to die.
I'm still playing III myself, but it doesn't really matter, no. If you get a jester, you can change them to a sage as soon as they hit level 20(you need a special item if you're using any other class), but they're useless in combat
You can use the mechanic to negate the disadvantages of particular classes: for example, switching from a warrior to a mage will give you a magic caster that has relatively high stamina and defense
>Greenlad
never gets old
>You can use the mechanic to negate the disadvantages of particular classes: for example, switching from a warrior to a mage will give you a magic caster that has relatively high stamina and defense
Of course, remember that your newly remodeled character won't build up more stats that they wouldn't normally have. Like if you port a Sage into a Warrior, that Warrior will never gain extra MP from levelup's
I thought Zoma was a chump, tho I never played the original NES version, only SFC which I hear was easier.
What are the best versions of 1 & 3 to play, I want to play those two games specifically
what Dragon Quest games can I buy for the Switch? I know 11 is coming out soon.
gbc or snes depending on what you like the look of best
it's on mobile too if that's what you fancy
Only 11. Maybe 1-3 will come but I doubt it.
11 will be the first apart from dragon quest builders 2 next month
if you have a hacked 3ds you can play 1-9 though and xi if you know japanese
If you want a non-meme answer, it just refers to a type of general atmosphere. You can dark and tense atmosphere in a game for example, you can also get cozy and laidback atmosphere in a game which I guess people call "comfy" now
Anybody who tells you cutting out the whole beginning of the game is good thing is a humongous fucking faggot. Original 7's beginning was excellent. I'm not an anti-remake fag whatsoever, but understand that every remake feels very different from their original counterpart, and 7 is no exception. They usually introduce a lot of good and a little bad, so it's up to you to decide which one you prefer.
welp, looks like I can't get em legally then.
I took some user’s advice and started playing Breath of Fire IV. What amo I missing by not playing the previous games?
DQ5 is a gem I've replayed several times and loved each run
DQ11 is so boring that I still haven't finished my first game.
some small references
I started with 4 and going backwards is not too bad
>you can also get cozy and laidback atmosphere in a game which I guess people call "comfy" now
If that's your metric for comfyness, then I guess dragon quest oozes comfy. What other series has 99% of the enemies smiling at you?
I believe that XI has fucked pacing. 5 hours into V and you've seen all kinds of dramatic turns of events, 20 hours into XI and nothing happened.
>DQ11 is so boring that I still haven't finished my first game.
Play with harder monsters.
Well duh, why else would you raise the perfect daughter?
I'm debating playing the Android version is there a best definitive version of this game?
I don't like that the unfunny Erdrick memes are putting people off of it, DQ3 is legitimately the purest JRPG around
>laughter stops
yeah, fab idea. make the already boring as shit game with nothing happening take even longer. 500 iq post.
I wanted to like the game, gave it way more of my time than I should have. It's shit
No. DS version with the monster trainer mod is. jeffludwig.com
Play on hard, it's mindless without it.
After several months of Smash shit, this was the best DQ thread I've seen in a while
>>durr you have to go fetch the magic carpet
>>ok forget the matgic carpet, what you really need is the boat
This doesn't happen, the magic carpet comes into play later than the boat by virtue of you needing to get a boat to reach the island where you can win the carpet. There's also no flying boat in the game. What the fuck are you talking about?
It's the best bro. Rock on.
Yes
have puff-puff
I'd say you should do it once and start with all spellcasters, one or two of which you turn into a fighter and/or thief(If you're not playing the nes one).
Random stuff.
You can change at 20, but consider sticking with priest and mage to the early 20s when they get revive and oomph.
Not directly related to class changing, but fighter is strictly better than soldier because unlike games after 3, agility converts to defense. You go first instead of last, you have more health, you don't spend as much on gear, you crit more and you have more defense.
Thief has mp growth so it can make more use of the spells learned from multiclassing.
no brain: normal
small brain: harder monsters
galactic brain: normal and running from every normal encounter
>I never finished it
Change that asap nigga. The last chunk of the game where Nene changes the planet onwards is great. Not sure how far you got but I don't want to spoil too much.
