Anyone who actually played FF15 could see immediately it was a massive upgrade just from what they showed at the conference.
It looks very fun judging by the gameplay we've seen. More of an actionized FF12 than anything, with attack and defense being non-ATB actions.
The only concern is whether the basic attack will even be useful. Cloud certainly can smack random enemies around and send them flying with it and Tifa seems to be able to juggle them but the damage difference between non-ATB and ATB is fucking huge.
I also really want the game to include all FF7 consumables and make some of them good all around the game like grenades. Something like Hero's Drink would be pretty fun to see in more action-y game.
The key to this system is going to be how long it takes to charge your ATB through auto attacking. If it's too fast then the game will be ability spam, if it's too slow you won't get to do shit.
I'm sure it will be GOTY in 2045 when the full game is finally out.
I'm reposting this, since this thread seems like a more appropriate one that discusses the combat system. It's based on Maximilian Dood's first impression podcast that he streamed just earlier. Bear in mind that he will try the demo again later today. But overall he's been very positive about the combat, but then again, he doesn't have much of an issue with XV's combat to begin with. Take it as you will Yea Forums. I'm using this guy's input since he's a "competitive" fighting game player, and he seems to be the one that goes deeper into the combat more than anyone else. He says he'd upload the first impression video on his Youtube channel later, and if you lot wanna listen to it yourself, then be my guess.
>you can hold square to auto attack with Cloud but says timed presses changes the combo
>ability combos (use Cloud and Barrets ability at the same time by using the "Tactical mode" to slow down the animation of the initial ability) can fill the stagger meter a.s.a.p
>instant party change not clunky like in XV
>no magic bombs, magic behaves like KH, Ice freezes opponent
>stance change using triangle for big damage but slower animation and vice versa
>can juggle Shinra Troops, he said he finish it off by sending the troop flying but hasn't clarified how he did it
>normal attacks does chip damage and are only used to fill Stagger meter
>frame rate is still wayward, 25~55 fps
Basic attacks make ATB charge up faster so obviously you want to do it.
I hope there's still materia that augment your basic attack though. Stuff like 4x cut would need to be recontextualized in an action combat system.
I think some of the "command" materia abilities, are now just your abilities. Like the 2x Cut or 4x Cut, is now Cloud's ability called Three Cut. If that's the case, I bet Cait Sith will have mimic or Blue Magic.
On the one hand that means there's less options for customization, on the one hand I did dislike that party members in FFVII (among other games) were basically interchangeable outside of stats and limit breaks.
If they're removing materia or incorporating them in to characters' base kits, hopefully they're introducing brand new materia (that take advantage of the new combat) to compensate.
I agree. I'm just stating this because people will argue that "they're removing the materia!!" when instead we have abilities for that now. But it's best that we see first how they'll tackle higher level materia in the remake. During the Midgar section, it was always a bit basic regarding the materia combinations.
In all honestly, I would've put up with most of their changes. The art decissions regarding characters, removing "polemical" parts like the honey bee inn or whatever... Even changing parts of the story like members of Avalanch not dying.
But making it into episodes to milk the cow until only pus is coming out is my red line. I won't even bother downloading it.
The Good
>Timed presses and holding square to auto attack do different things. That's nice, I hate how holding square to auto-attack felt in FF15.
>Switching between party members feels better than FF15 and is way more important. A bunch of youtubers have said this. Based on various interviews from SE staff as well as gameplay videos, it also seems like there are a bunch of mechanics that forces you to switch between characters. Barret has ranged attacks opposed to Cloud. There are enemies who can trap characters and you have to switch over to another character to free the trapped character.
>no magic bombs. Holy shit, probably the worst mechanic in FF15. I don't know if magic behaves 'exactly' like KH3, magic in that game is insane.
>stagger system. Makes sense for a game like this. One of the few good things from FF13 and FF15, though FF15 didn't quite get it right I feel.
The Bad
>Hold square to auto-attack. I personally like FF12's method of just having the characters auto-attack without you holding anything. FF15 felt awful to play because of how you just held a single button to do a string of combos or to infinitely dodge.
>FPS fluctuating that much in a real time action game. I really hope this will be fixed, that sounds awful.
>normal attacks do chip damage and abilities do massive damage. SE needs to make sure battles don't drag out forever. Hated FF15 because of the minuscule chip damage Noctis did. Though, I really do like the stagger system from FF13.
Part of me's excited because it looks good, looks fun, and I'm eager to see how it all gets expanded. The other part completely dreads the fact that unless management scales up the team to work on multiple parts at the same time, it'll be anywhere from 6 to 16 years until the final part comes out.
Some youtubers have said that X is used to bring up the command menu, but it says O here. Do we know if X and O pull up different menus? I know that, like KH, there is a quick menu for your most used attacks.
X for West
O for Japan
Asia and EU button scheme perhaps? Like in XV, I don't have the jumping while picking up the item issue since it's mapped to a different button which if I recalled correctly, is mapped to the the attack button.
I wonder if Tifa will suck an absolute ass at gameplay again.
but she's the best character in the game once you get powersoul
It's basically this but many games have the option to swap it.
Shit limits won't be fixed by anything.
Didn't watch, did they confirm compilation garbage in the game?
>hits consistent 9999s while the rest of the party struggles to break 1k
>b-but her limit sucks
she's the best character in the mid-game if you decide to abuse powersoul. if you don't, she's bad, and for endgame she's bad because by that point everyone is maxing out on damage and she doesn't have good limits.
>>no magic bombs. Holy shit, probably the worst mechanic in FF15. I don't know if magic behaves 'exactly' like KH3, magic in that game is insane.
I mean in which magic is casted straight to the opponent as a missile and instant for Thunder .We still haven't seen Blizzard, but the streamer's wife said that Blizzard can freeze enemies.
>stagger system. Makes sense for a game like this. One of the few good things from FF13 and FF15, though FF15 didn't quite get it right I feel.
15 had stagger system? I don't think 15 has one. Or am I remembering it wrong?
>Hold square to auto-attack. I personally like FF12's method of just having the characters auto-attack without you holding anything. FF15 felt awful to play because of how you just held a single button to do a string of combos or to infinitely dodge.
I do see the positive in that, like in XII, you can not bother with attack, but timed the spells are the right time using that mechanic. I preferred if they removed it entirely unless it's for Barret since I like the feeling of every hit.
>FPS fluctuating that much in a real time action game. I really hope this will be fixed, that sounds awful.
Yeah, Square's game really do have a problem with this still. I hope for at least a stable 30fps, hope they fix this before release.
>normal attacks do chip damage and abilities do massive damage. SE needs to make sure battles don't drag out forever. Hated FF15 because of the minuscule chip damage Noctis did. Though, I really do like the stagger system from FF13.
I prefer it this way since it would force people to actually use other methods instead of holding down a single button to clear out enemies to be honest. But yeah, balance it a little better, to not make the enemies feel like bullet sponges. One thing that I hated in The Division.
>the rest of the party hits for 18-15x9999
>she struggles to hit 7x9999
>not sucking an absolute fucking dick
SE kinda confirmed that they might utilize some elements of compilation. As far as I can tell, they haven't shown off any of these elements yet. They have shown new plot elements tho not featured in the original FF7 or the compilation, namely there's a scene where Aerith and Cloud are attacked by dementors/ghosts. Those ghosts seem fairly important considering they appear in key art alongside Sephiroth. I guess its Sephiorth's new power? Some people have speculated they are Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo. Though, I don't think so. I think Kadaj's voice actor has been confirmed as part of the cast for this game.
She's actually really good at all stages. Even against Emerald she is one of the better characters with the right setups. Premium Heart works great for specific tricks like counter spam. A bunch of the ultimate weapons have trouble maintaining max damage (hp & mp based weapons) or doing high damage to begin with (death penalty and missing score). All Tifa needs to do is have her Limit gauge maxed and she hits harder than most of them.
Earlier in the game her limits activate fast and hit multiple times.
So has anybody else noticed the hooded figures (the clones?) swirling around Sephiroth here?
She is hard locked into dealing less than half the burst damage of other characters and it's not going to be fixed by anything. She is only good as a healbot or a thief outside of mid game hypermode.
see
What an utterly stupid and impractical weapon
Limits aren't that great speedrun wise there is quicker methods to defeat the superbosses.
>speedrun wise
Literal autism, fuck outta there
Wondering if they can keep this up with all the characters
elaborate
I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in different combo finishers, one might do more damage, another give more atb charge etc.
Game not being as bad as FFXV could still mean it's bad.
FFXV’s combat system was the smallest of its many issues.
>caring about team composition when FFVII has basically no endgame content to beat outside of ruby and emerald
literally why, just pick your favorite characters
It's going to be the greatest JRPG ever made, again.
Too long for proper swordfighting and too curved for poking like a spear so all it's good for is to fight from horseback, also it will break eventually even if it was folded 5 million times it's still thin as fuck and the length of the blade only makes it more likely to bend and break
Katanas are durable for their shape just like ants are strong for their size lol
>she's actually really good
>in the speedrun
lol
lmao look at this dood
My favorite characters are the ones that deal the most damage because im not a fag.
Bamham : FF Edition
You're an idiot.
>no remake version of Cid, Yuffie, or Vincent until 2026
You both are for entirely different reasons.
>stuff actually breaks and flies around if hit with attacks
wonder if you do extra damage by knocking enemies into the wall with a launcher attack
Which are.........
It's not even 1/3 of FFVII it's a 30 hour tutorial before the journey begins
Have sex
>ATB skills don't reset your combo similar to how magic does not reset your combo in KH2
TAKAHASHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
t. favorite character is his waifu owo
She's been top tier for ages along with Cloud and Cait Sith.
>Moves goalposts to be about speedrun
>Speedrun doesn't even use Tifa for the super bosses
Well done retard.
He's right though. And even if it was literally indestructible it's still awkward as fuck.
Imagine trying to navigate around indoors with that fucking thing on your hip. You cant turn around in most places without hitting a wall or knocking shit over, God luck in doorways and God forbid you ever had to use a vehicle.
I can't think of a single real purpose for it to be so stupidly long. He gains nothing from it
In your head maybe.
it's a magic anime sword that doesn't break, used by a space dude who swings it like paper. hardly looks too curved for poking either
Just from seeing how it plays from the footage tells me it's garbage. It's KH gameplay with no jump button and ATB spam coordination. Turn based will always be superior.
>Cait Sith
Pretty much every speedrun category bans the slots you fucking mongoloid.
AKA all of them because everyone has materia and magic rules FFVII
this
Unless he can also phase the sword though walls it's fucking useless indoors.
I don't care about some faggots, gameplay is a poor Sudeki ripoff, so fuck off.
you can't think of a single purpose?
This, what a joke. 7 Remake looking good.
no need, he effortlessly cuts through structures all the time. all out of straws now
>what are limit breaks
Cloud, Barret and Cid have the best limit breaks therefore they are the best characters. I don't want to sit through KOTR mimics for 2 hours.
He is top tier because his magic stat is super good and he has the highest hp stat.
He's a dumb weeb faggot and you're an obnoxious muh realism faggot. Everyone knows Sephiroth's sword is ludicrous. Shut up, asshole.
>you can hold square to auto attack
Not this shit again. I thought they learned their lesson after ffxv and would make attacking tied to individual button presses like KH or any other action rpg.
She is one of the better characters for pretty much the entire game. You can scream tiers r 4 queers all you like but she is still stronger than most of the party. Limit breaks aren't the be all end all of ff7.
Right? I'd think that this can be a make or break for some. I hope people to start demanding Square to stop being retarded. It's not that hard. Just fucking remove auto attacks.
But you could just hold x/o in the original over the attack command. What's wrong with it? Do you think it requires more skill to push a button more instead of just holding it down?
If you're wailing on an enemy and they can't react in any way, that's stagger. 15 had it for some enemies but it wasn't clear so you'd suddenly get merced by imperials while comboing on them.
Shit limits.
Shit ultimate weapon.
Shit stat growth.
Her only use is Powersoul shenanigans, otherwise i can't think of a worse character
>otherwise i can't think of a worse character
Cait Sith. Arguably also Vincent for most of the game.
XV's final combat was 100% Tabata's team. The combat wasn't even the same between the final game and the earlier Duscae demo.
There's no way Nomura was going to have that shit.
It does look interesting to see how they've combined the two different gameplay styles into one. Hopefully we get a demo before release.
The thing i'm exiced for the most is the final Cloud vs Sephiroth battle.
With new Limit system they can make a normal sword fight that ends when he charged Omnislash.
if you held the button in the original it wouldn't do jack shit
It's nothing even about skillfull play or anything, when you just hold the button it immediately makes you feel like you , as a player, don't matter for shit in the action
Your character will flip around and do the coolest hypest shit while you sit there in silence , holding your little button
Part of what makes a game like devil may cry fun is that elaborate combos feels like you're playing a music sheet and pressing at the right time and the right way to get the character on the screen to do the cool shit
It's also why Assasin's creed auto run bullshit is boring, in 1 you had less ways of interacting with your environnement but it was at your comand, starting from 3 the CHARACTERS decide to engage the environnement and you just watch like a cuck
>nothing like that hot garbage Final Fantasy XV
well it has a good director so this was pretty much a given
from what I could tell it follows the FF13 system, where you do poor damage until the stagger bar fills then you start hitting hard
>no jump button
youtu.be
It doesn't have a jump button. You dodge with circle. Open menu with X. Attack with Square. And switch stances or modes with Triangle. But sometimes Cloud auto tracks to a flying enemy.
Looks like the attack automatically moved him upwards.
ah so its just kh wihtout the jump then. i guess i can understand why since they would want you to switch to barrent for ariel enemies, otherwise no one would even switch from cloud and tifa
Yep. They tried to make each character unique in that way. And I appreciate that.
>>literally everyone who has got a chance to play Final Fantasy VII Remake at E3 says its amazing and nothing like that hot garbage Final Fantasy XV
there goes my biggest fear or FF7R, more casual Hold O to win gameplay that plagued XV because Tataba wanted to pander to casuals
