Redpill me on Resident Evil 5. I've heard both good and bad things about it. It's the only mainline RE game I havent played. The Switch port has me wanting to try it out finally. Is it closer to RE4 or RE6?
>inb4 $30 hur durr
I like playing in handheld mode while laying in bed. It's in the literal sense, comfy.

Best coop game ever made.

It's decent with a co-op buddy. Play PC version. Forget about console versions of FPS/TPS games you pleb.

>Is it closer to RE4 or RE6?
It's right in the middle. Pop-up inventory and co-op focus of 6 with the combat mechanics of 4.

It's kind of like RE4 if you removed the inventory, merchant and Leon's wisecracks making it more serious and palatable for the Gears crowd of its time

no friends? dont bother

Not sure I'd call it that much more serious. There's a ton of goofy moments, but whether they're intentional is mostly debatable.

Played through this so many times in high school. Very comfy co-op game. I remember playing through with my best friend and watching all the failed QTE when you fight Wesker. Still pretty fun by yourself but you’re probably better off playing on PC.

Not really. Gameplay wise and design wise its much closer to re4.

I liked it, if you like the more arcadey aspects from Resi 4 you will like this game, also its worth playing just for the Wesker memes

>Gameplay wise
That's what I said.
>design wise
Not sure what you mean. If you mean enemy and character design, yeah, I guess.

It was designed for co-op so if you don't have someone to play with don't bother. The AI partner is not fun to play with.

This. I hadn't this much fun playing coop in ages. I've never been a console guy or a trophy guy but hunting trophies with my best buddy, going against others in the versus modes and specially the main campaign was a great experience.
If you play it alone is an OK game, nothing remarkable.

I'll redpill you on my dick

post more claire

It's the only one in the series that I played and I really liked it a lot. Played it coop with my cousin. Did everything you could do and still wanted more. It's an incredibly fun experience.

Is it spooky tho? Not at all desu. So, I guess you shouldn't buy it if you're expecting le epic horror survival moments.

Of the "numbered" games I put 5 as the worst game. But it's still very fuckin good. The game is very fun, can't go wrong.

Your AI companion of questionable "I", rubbery enemies (guns dont have the impact of 4), and some pretty bland levels knock it down a couple points for me personally.

Fun with a friend. Which basically means it’s shit.

I loved it when it came out. Very unique setting. It played like RE4 but if Ashley fought alongside you (with kinda dumb AI) in Sheva. Feels like the longer it's been since release, the more people have turned against it.

It's a fairly good multiplayer game, and an awful single-player game. Despite being an armed combatant, your AI partner is completely helpless and far, far more of a liability than Ashley ever was in RE4.

played through it with some japanese user, co-op is a blast, shame can't be said about re6

Very underrated action game. Not good as a horror game.

A million times better than RE6 which is a piece of shit as both an action AND a horror game.

SHEVA

C'MON!
C'MON!
I CAN'T RIGHT NOW!
HURRY!!!

It has the best Mercenaries mode. The No Mercy Mercenaries is the most tense shit ever. RE6 is shit compared to it.

It's a really fun game, and the last time you'll ever canonically see Jill.

So say a meta-RIP.

Sheva is a dumb niggress.

She never did anything particularly dumb

Right in the middle of RE4 and 6's balance, the AI partner being the first iteration of the gimmick actually does shit and isn't totally fucking useless or a waste of space.

Can't say how the switch port will perform but they improved many things with the unified port to PC, and I feel AI was one of them, as long as you micro-manage the AI properly, it will be useful to you. Keep it on Offense for the vast majority of the time, and it'll be able to hold its own in light conditions, use the appropriate items generally based on what you give it, and will scout out on its own to get pickups for the both of you. It dies easily in heavy crowds or if it gets surrounded. Keep it in defense or whatever the mode is called for large open rooms or areas with dense enemy counts, and you'll generally be fine with it.

Every game after it with the partner gimmick chose to make the partner AI fucking useless rather than axe them completely. They're present in other games but do no damage to enemies and generally just get in the way.

One correction, based on memory, keep it on offense for large open rooms if you give it a rifle. I think the AI will keep you covered with one as long as you've got it set on the attack/offense mode, where its behavior is more independent whereas the defense/follow mode just has them follow you more closely and they're slower to react.

She wasted my precious handgun ammo.

Maybe it varies with difficulty. On the tougher difficulties the enemies hit harder, but maybe the AI partner is slightly better too?
I remember playing on the hardest difficulties from the start and I never had issues with the AI outside of the arenas specifically made to give you some challenge with them. It became obvious to me that it was more proactive and responsive on the attack mode. I don't think it ever landed one shot kills, but I think my worst issue was the rare edge case of it nailing me with badly timed grenades

Just give her the stun baton
