People weren't buying the school setting and the trailer showed us that the school is merely a set-up for the larger, more serious plot. Treehouse finally showed us gameplay, which had been suspiciously missing-in-action, and it looks satisfactorily in-depth. It also confirmed a leaker to be real who was saying stuff that seemed too good to be true and generally had a high opinion of the game.
They can still easily fuck this up but it looks a whole lot better than the school life simulator we feared.

The weapon triangle IS in, it's just not innate to weapon types themselves. There are now a bunch of skills tied to weapon levels (now "professor levels" since there's also levels for non weapon stuff like riding and armor) and early skills for each weapon type essentially implement the weapon triangle.

Awakening is bottom of the barrel in terms of gameplay and maps, both at the same time, both extremely low tier.

Gameplay wise you had a lot of maps where you had to kill everything, enemies loved to rush you down while you had somewhat open maps without any chokepoints to defend yourself against the rush while reinforcements spawning behind you acted on the same turn giving you no chance to react. Add the pair up, reclassing and child units being overpowered to it and you have a game where the best "strategy" is creating ridiculous strong units who kill everything on enemy phase. This can be fun for some people, but it kinda takes the whole strategy part out of the whole SRPG thing that FE is known for.

God I can't wait to find out Dimitri's backstory so we can make name memes like Kazuhira "Only whites in the World of Light" Miller.

Yeah, start with FE7 instead. Not only it is better than Awakening, but it has a forced tutorial that you're going to hate if you already have experience with the series. It's easy, but not too easy if you're new.

Never shat on it, I in fact defended it because PoR and RD are seen as good games yet looked like shit even on release and while the art style is a bit jarring because they hired an otome artist to do the designs etc. I thought they could still have some good designs here and there and hopefully good characters.

Because its on consoles they can go back to older games for game mechanics and fully realize some of the ideas that were only scratched on the surface on the 3DS and I was right. Looks fun as hell and I can't wait to play it.

Because it's too popular. A lot of the problems people have with it are present in a grand majority of the games. Thing is that most of the strategy in that game happens before the battle as preparing and planning the right pair ups, supports, (re)classes, and weapons (and gold management by extention) have much more impact on the battle than whatever you do in the battle itself. However that management of units and resources is in-and out of itself can be very fun.

For one, one of the games elitists like to hail a lot of praise, Binding Blade, also suffer from having Sieze as it's only victory condition.

Not just the entire battle, you can choose any point in time to return to. My favorite use of it was safely trying stupid, luck-based plays that would be high risk high reward in other games.

You can handpick each individual action to undo and go all the way back to the start of the map. With 12 uses, the rng grind for level ups is gonna be unreal if they don't do seeds again.

Interestingly enough, there is a limit. But it's something like 150 turns.
