The Mechwarrior series peaked with Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. I believe MW3 was a solid successor in terms of campaign but the engine the game ran on was total shit, you could crash the game by firing enough autocannons at once because the game could only handle something like 8 sounds at the same time. The only good thing the later games pulled off was the strict mount points. MW2 was more faithful to the table top game for builds but it made for some bizarre builds like jump jet Daishi missile boats. Mechwarrior was always about the storyline missions, not just smashing people in multiplayer. I have no faith that Mechwarrior 5 will surpass MW4 let alone good storylines like MW3, MW2:M or MW2.

Mechwarrior 4 mercs was the last good mech game if you only like single player games. Mechwarrior living legends is the last good multiplayer mech game, and it's still alive and completely free. I desperately hope the upcoming mw5 isn't shit. All it needs to do is be roughly as good as a game released in 2002, or have some basic modding support so I can fucking fix it myself but I have very low expectations.

Except they hand out free premium time through easy event missions like candy and taking a mech from pure stock to fully skilled and equipped will only take as long as it does for you to get familiar with it. The monetization incentive is almost non-existent, which is why they're reporting themselves to be in maintennance mode due to relying entirely on flagging mech pack sales for years.

Potato steeringwheel players will always complain about being behind the curve while in Tier 5, of course, not that we've had enough players for Tier to matter for a long time.

Better in pretty much every possible way. Especially the class changes. Fencer is actually the one that got the least new weapons (I think none?) but feels the most different too. They massively expanded weapons that give you a dash or boost so you have a LOT more choice for mobility instead of having 2 weapon slots perma-locked to Javelin launcher + spear. They also changed the way his movement works, you no longer cancel animations and instead chain dashes with boosts for massive jumps and general maneuverability.
They added extra slots for all classes where you install a passive, like 400% sprint speed for ranger, different hovers for Wingdivers, recoil reduction for fencer, etc etc.
All classes also have a pick-up ring around them so you don't have to physically touch a box to pick it up, these can also be expanded in some cases.

Ranger got sprint and vehicles (not as many as A.Raider though).
WingDiver Got a dodge that's very useful, as well as a lot of more energy manipulation options. You can for example be unable to fly but expend much less energy shooting weapons, or less max energy but better recovery, etc.
Air Raider got an extra slot, his bombardments have a much improved targeting system (overhead view of the battlefield) and good changes to vehicles, also better reloads on some weapons.
Fencer got expanded mobility options as I've mentioned, which directly expand his weapon choices with much more variety.

TL;DR EDF5 added Frogs, that's all you need to know.

I played a mech game as a kid 20 odd years ago but I can't remember the name. It was first person, the menu was set in your barracks room between missions, there was a choice of two mechs at the start, there were (I think) secret areas to be found on each map, and if you lost/aborted enough missions you'd get a game over FMV of your base being destroyed. I had a look at old mech games on various sites a year ago but I don't think it was any of the popular, big name ones like Mechwarrior.

I've checked both of those and while Shattered Steel looks similar, it also looks too recent. The first mission was definitely against other enemy mechs and I don't think the graphics were that advanced.

Pretty much this. I got excited for a split second over Battletech months ago and then found out the lead developer is a literal tranny and pronouns are an option under the character creation screen. Also, you work for a stronk womyn who don't need no man -unless the character you created is a man and goes by the pronouns "him/he."

I replayed MechAssault 2 and enjoyed it instead.

I love Brigador but I will admit it is tougher to get into than it looks. Your choice of vehicle and weapons can also drastically change how the game plays, which isn't for everyone.

My issue with DxM isn't even the performance (although it's indeed horrible even in the latest trailer), it's that it's a straight up AC clone but with all the depth removed and only 1/10th of the customization. MW online is the best. Its exactly what people are looking for, and what all mech games have been, arcadey shooters with customization

I would like a game with heavy sim feel, cockpit interaction like flight sim, but its never been done, not even 3 got there. When people get mas at MWO they criticize Piggy which they are in fact, fucking retarded at PR, and the ancient lostech of the beta to release, but as a GAME, its really good and the community is welcoming.

It's not so bad. The game is pretty fun and scratches the 'mech itch well until you reach mid-late game when it turns into an artillery simulator.

I get the Tiberian Sun vibe from that as well. I'm also reminded of a SoE game called Infantry or some shit that had 100+ players per map. I haven't thought about that game in years, I wonder if it still exists.

what the fuck are they doing? all they had to do to fix the damn game and make it fun again, was to remove medic, and roll back the health nerfs that made all the mechs feel like they were made out of cardboard.

Titans are mechs by every standard. The only reason people say the games aren't in the mech genre is because most mech games don't have combat that switches between piloting and on-foot.

I looked at Iron Harvest trailer. Looks cool but from what I've seen with the gameplay, light mechs are too OP and the infantry with grenades and rocket launchers stomp the rest.
