I have how autistic small independent forums are about >MUH PIRACY. I'd understand this sort of mentality if we were talking about official sites by the publishers/developers, but if it's just some fan site, who gives a fuck?
Why were 2003-2007 vbulletin forums so cancerous? I know it was proto Reddit, but every thread read like an unironic Yea Forums shitpost.
>megaupload
It's actually not that bad.
Now compare megaupload to the actual MEGA site, hoo boy.
Lack of anonymity + overt direct interactions between admins/mods and users in the "community" + small size. Total recipe for them turning into cancerous echo chamber circlejerks, powertripping mods, and sycophantic behavior out the ass.
And then on top of that, add all the shitty "features" of these forums like being forced to make an account to view links/attachments/photos.
Also keep in mind that these places haven't gone away. They still exist, it's just that imageboards and reddit are more popular and eclipse them. Sadly you still have to trudge through those cesspits if you're into modding.
>find posts on someone else with the same problem
>all the solutions instantly recommend the nuclear option of reinstall game/update drivers/tweak some undocumented registry setting/etc...
>everyone has a slightly different issue
>no fix works for 2 people
Why does ever tech forum always have that one fucking guy who insists you need to reinstall your drivers/OS/everything for the most minor shit
>I'm not sure that I can help because it works for me :)
