Nintendo actually has very little control over Game Freak. Unlike other second party companies, Game Freak is like a 2 1/2 party. They are very independent, but not quite a third party.
Nintendo's major stake with them is The Pokemon Company which co-owns the entire pokemon media franchise.

Essentially, Game Freak is allowed to do whatever the fuck they want and the only say nintendo has is marketing.

What do you breed for though?
I tend to only breed pokemon in the region. At most I bring in Ditto to get good IVs on my early team then hexa them once I reach endgame, but overall they never really get used outside the game they came from.
And technically, they won't be stuck on the 3DS since you can still put them in Home depending on what that's like.
They said you can Trade in Home already, so I'm hoping maybe they add more features to it so it's not just Bank again.
If Ditto's not in the dex, that will certainly complicate things, but eh, can still get by, it'll just take a bit longer. We already spend hours breeding (and I do masuda shiny breeding so that's even longer) so setting up for hexas on each of them will relatively not that much extra time.

It's a dumb, lazy move on their part, but it doesn't outright break the game, just means we gotta work around it.

If breloom isn't in the regional pokedex for sw/sh, then tough tiddies, you're not bringing it into this game, even if you've completed the game, even if you have no reason to actually use it but just want to have it with you, you just can't

Since gen 2, every Pokemon game at least contained code for every Pokemon. You couldn't get Sneasel in Ruby or Sapphire, but you could get it in LeafGreen and then bring it to RS if you wanted. Gen 5 was somewhat of a soft reboot, with all-new Pokemon being the entirety of the game, but you could carry forward everything you had before if you wanted to keep using them. Even gen 7, which didn't even have dex entries for most existing Pokemon, still let you use all of them if you traded them over.

What's wrong with just starting fresh in each generation?
The Daycare in this game seems to be pretty early on assuming it's the building between the grass and water towns, so early breeding will be possible. And we don't know anything of what the postgame will be like yet so there could be ample chance to breed for that.
If you really care so much about breeding something to play through S/S with, why not just do it with one of the pokemon we already know is coming, or wait until more of the dex is revealed and do it with anything else that gets shown to be in it?
Whatever you already have that can't go to S/S just gets put in Home till the next games or can be used in restarting one of the old games.

It's not fucking fun being stuck with the same Pokemon for years because the Meta gets found out VERY quickly in Pokemon and is usually established VERY early on and the only thing that changes is being able to bring in old Pokemon,Event Pokemon, and new forms. Plus it's even more of a spat in the face considering they got all 800 Pokemon in the game just fine ON THE FUCKING 3DS. It's just complete incompetence from the same company that couldn't fit a single region on the GBC until a single man game in, fixed their code, and let them put in 2

Learning about nature's and IVs completely killed any interest I once had in breeding Pokemon or battling other people. IVs in particular are just a retarded time sink to get the perfect mon and don't add anything interesting or fun. Fuck IVs.

To answer your question, I DO play the game fresh and catch whatever I come across. That's not the point. I still have many mons I want to breed and as of this installment, my process comes to a halt. I'll be fucking stuck breeding in USUM, unable to partake in new content. You'll never be able to use anything except that current gen in battles which is complete ass. Eventually support for USUM will stop and that's where the road ends.

They cut content of the game, this is not a beat the game and get it later, If a ppokémon is not programmed in the game you will not be able to use it in any way, they also cut Z-moves and Megas while putting that shitty Dynamax thing which they can't even make it work right, all this while having the same issues they ever had since making the move to 3D.

But what do you mean by support? Yes, there will be a point where they stop doing trades in it, but that probably won't be till like gen 8 or so.
If you haven't bred everything you want to by then, that'd be surprising. But even then, that's not truly the end.
You're acting like breeding in future games will be impossible. You'll be able to breed the Galar Dex just fine in S/S, and later on when they do the inevitable Sinnoh Remakes, you'll be able to breed that dex just fine there. And all future titles wil push to Home for storage, at which point you can just wait for a game with that pokemon in the Dex if you really want to breed or use it.

People are really shitting on the idea of Home, but I think it's great especially for breeding. Since I'm not trying to keep a fuckton of old favorites in the boxes filling up space there anymore, I now won't feel bad about having my PC just chock full of breeding fodder. And once I breed some things I want, I can stick them in Home for future use. Home is basically going to be the National Dex going forward.
Sucks that Home can't send back to Bank, but it's always been hell trying to send anything backwards regardless.

First of all, don't play Ultra Moon. Gen 7 is total shit.

If you must, then you just need a way to rip your save. There is likely a tool you can get that will let you copy it to an SD card or something. Then you can just open your save for Silver up and drag and drop your Tyranitar into UM.

you can't. The GBA had no connectivity to the GB so everything in those 2 games are trapped. That's why they remade Red and Blue on the GBA and made the Colloseum and XD games on gamecube just so you can complete the Pokedex

The character animation in the games is LEAGUES above the past games. Generic cutscenes are still stiff and canned, but the important scenes like the gym leaders entering or the trainer animations in battle have so far been fantastic.

As for the Pokemon, we still have to see more. They seem like they have more idle animations at least. Did Weavile always do that animation it did in the trailer where it looked at it's claws for it's idle? They also may have more animations in other regards that haven't been shown yet.

I've seen some mixed results on the competitive angle of this.

Some have been looking at it as a negative in the sense that some pokemon that have specific counters may be in and not have their counters present meaning they'll be stronger than ever.
But I've seen other say it's good cause it means each game will have it's own meta now rather than everything being stifled and stagnated by the many constant top tier mon.

I like to give some of the older mons that I never used in the previous titles a chance in the new game. Stuff like Snubbull in X/Y and Grimer (as its Alolan variant) in S/M were both super fun to use and gave me a new found love for those two mons. Although for the sake of the gameplay I did consider the Alola forms "new" for use on my team, I used an Alolan Raichu for a while, as well as Grimer (replaced with a Wimpod).
Regardless, what I was meaning to communicate to him was that even people who play with new Pokemon only when they enter a new gen still have a reason to want their old mons, namely the whole point of collecting monsters and maintaining that collection in a series about collecting monsters.

So more Pokemon with signature moves that should be on other, more interesting Pokemon but aren't. More Pokemon with signature abilities that are either so awesome that it hurts to see the ability relegated to such a shitmon or so awful that it hurts to see suich a cool Pokemon saddled with such a trash ability. Another giant serving of way too fucking many legendaries. A story mode that is lazy and boring as shit with shitloads of unskippable cutscenes explaining crap you already know. A really lazy endgame for battling a-la battle tree. Pokemon that start cool, but then have godawful evolutions, or are just impossibly ugly from stage 1, and more slow, defensive ice and rock types, because that ALWAYS works.

BW were meh to me, couldn't make it through XY cause of how bad and clearly unfinished the game was. I figured pokemon was just not for me any more, I could always replay gen 1 and 2 for nostalgia. But eventually a caved and played B2W2, and it is legit one of if not the best pokemon game. HGSS probably still win out but I miss my boys Sandile and Joltik when playing.

Then I played USUM and it was the worst shit ever. Most boring ass stop and start with every island being a circular guided tour. The fact it took a bigger fuck up than the shitty 3DS generation for pokemon fans to wake up is telling.

So you have battle model, wild area model, routes model, model for each town or building it is in.

The top part makes sense, it's probably even the way how Iwata made Johto and Kanto fit in gen 2, the focus was on optimizing the memory space because the hardware could easily handle the encrypting/decrypting.
For the second part, I can't wrap my head around it, I can't find a valid explanation for it outside of utter laziness and awful management (because I expect that they were all made by different teams who never communicated on what they were already using in their part).

Losing egg moves is massive, my dude. A lot of competitive sets have egg moves as lynchpin.

For instance Salamence and Flygon get Dragon Dance off an egg move only. Likewise Gallade can only learn Shadow Sneak off an egg move. If their parents are cut off the only way to get either is to breed in Gen 7 and then transfer. Here's the kicker: if you place a pokemon in one gen it can never go back to a previous gen, so there are solid chances that the pokemon from US/UM you put in Home can't ever return.

What's fucked is they wouldn't care if there was no Home service announced. I think people would willingly accept "yeah, 3DS games aren't going to connect to Switch", but this partial transfer shit and "yeah your pokemon stays in Home until we make a game that uses them again". In what, fucking 3 years from now? Maybe longer? There's no way they could feasibly cycle every Pokemon equally across games, some guys are gonna get totally fucked. And with new Pokemon every game that cycle would just get more and more drawn out.

I don't get why they would restrict the fucking code. Like, even games like Platinum or HGSS or BW2 or USUM or whatever that had a lot of regional shit in were still missing scores, but you could still GET them through trading or trasnfering or whatever. The idea that they are hard locked out and you need to check to see if your favorites are in is really fucking baffling. That was the huge mark against RS at the start of 3rd gen and it took a while for it to be fixed.

It would've totally been able to keep working on Switch because the Pokemon and your subscription are tied to your Nintendo account, all you'd need is for the Switch account to be the same. The only reason that wouldn't happen is if they decided to not implement, but because they'd added compatibility with the VC ports of RBY and GSC, and Pokemon Go connectivity that was never implemented, it appeared they were planning a permanent thing that really did connect all games. And that became Home I guess.

One is an open world game that will be in an entirely new location with different abilities to suit said new location, you probably won't need your old data. Pokemon has been the same thing for 9 gorrillion years, it's about befriending the little ducks and raising them on journey after journey. They've got sentimental value and gameplay value since teams are so important.

no, combat mechanics are fine as long as they are different battle formats or modes. For example:
-different base mechanics mean that pokemon that were rubbish before now have new niches and purposes in different formats
-no power creep since formats don't overlap
-gives more ways to play and ways for players to express their preferences & individual style

Of course since they removed triple and rotation, no one will bother investing in any new format ever again since they are subject to being removal without notice, making the time and effort investment and the specialized pokemon raised for these formats worthless. It doesn't help that they don't even try to market or showcase these additions, for example there are about 3 rotation battles and 1 triple battle with NPCs in BW, and battle subway didn't support it, so the only real way to play it was with other players. Don't even get me started on Wonder Launcher. Not usable in NPC battles at all and barely mentioned, and unlike triple and rotation, it wasn't featured in the PWT in BW2 and was quietly removed in XY.

What the fuck was the point of making those high poly models for the 3DS games that made them run like shit if they weren't just going to port them forward? Did they do it as a joke?

For the "people" (read: retards/GF drones) who don't understand why this is a big deal, the sheer variety of pokemon is basically the only defense modern Game Freak has had for its piss-poor graphics/general presentation, especially compared to the Colosseum titles. That and system limitations, but that excuse left with the move to the Switch.
If they only have to animate one generation's worth of pokemon, there is absolutely no excuse why the animation quality shouldn't be as good as a fucking N64 game (you've all seen the gifs of Blastoise shooting from its cannons, mega kick, etc).
It also takes a huge amount of variety from battles, especially online; if you thought teams were stagnant before, get ready for teams to only have a single region's worth of Pokemon to work with (90% of whom will not be viable, more or less).
It also enormously takes away from the appeal of trading and collecting; now the only time you'll use trading is to get version exclusives, or to trade for shinies (tough luck if your shiny isn't a galar pokemon, though).
There is literally no reason for this shit. They are only doing it because Pokemon fans are a bunch of flaccid faggots who'll purchase every game no matter what. If you think people shouldn't be upset about this, you're exactly the type of person Game Freak is betting on existing to defend them, a casual player who has no idea what the ramifications of their laziness will be until it's too late.

Yeah pretty much, gamefreak got rid of the one thing that put pokemon in a whole league apart from other monster catching games. Now it's just one more monster catching game instead of THE monster catching rpg.

Until now you could literally find a way to transfer a pokemon from gen 3 all the way to gen 7 with little issue due to how connected each entry was. Now every game from now on is just a closed garden that'll barely be capable of interacting with other games in the series.

There isn't one, stop buying the game if you're not happy with it.
