Dragon Quest 5 MC is far more iconic than DQ4 MC, but he is not the "Hero" of his generation. That's not a title that can be earned. That's a legend, something you inherit. That's a set of abilities that he does not have, and that's what made him special.

DQ5 MC overcame everything he did without legendary swords or crazy lightning magic or anything of the sort, and to throw him in with the other heroes who did have those powers and make him an echo fighter just to have him there would be a disservice to him and everything he accomplished.

He jumps in for the special attack and he has the palette swap reference color, and that's the way it should be.

Both of you are correct. The hero's strongest weapon is the Metal King sword which has an attack rating of 130. The Metal King sword can also be equipped by his son. The strongest weapon exclusive to the hero is the dragon staff with an attack rating of 125 that also allows him to transform into a dragon in battle.

His moveset would be like early jiggs/kirby. He could even have a down+b to cast kerplunk to become metal heavy to drop for damage, and then stay metal and fucking fast as shit until someone hits him (for 0-1% dmg). His jump could be unique and be held down to charge up the momentum like Ness's PK thunder without having to actually aim it (you just aim the direction you want to go).

I mean, some times they suck. I think it's more that DQ took the western tabletop rpgs and crpgs that were growing in popularity in Japan during the 70's and 80's and turned them into something much more digestible for a mainstream audience. That may sound like a negative to some but I think it was a good thing, tabletop rpgs and crpgs can be complex for some people, DQ offers a simple and fun alternative that I feel even hardcore rpg veterans could find fun in.

I'd argue he doesn't deserve it. Dude's not really a hero, and I don't mean he's not a chosen one. He spent the majority of the game stumbling around. The game's pivotal plot point is literally a quest where the reward is poon. Dude was prepared to just sit on his throne letting poncho raise his kids, Nimzo woulda won if he'd just left them alone.
