I love Banjo but why the fuck nobody has been talking about the fact that we essentially got 4 characters, each one having widely different specials.
I don't give a fuck about DQ but having what is essentially 4 characters in 1 is pretty fucking rad.
Owen Cooper
Every single character from dragon quest looks like either Goku, Vegeta or Bulma

Toriyama is much better at designing monsters than humans.

100%. dq monsters have much more personality and interesting design than the humans.

he can still make some damn good humans

No thats a Gohan. Eight is the Goku.
Isaiah Rodriguez
I'm glad that Munchie comes with Eight in Smash, it's peak SOUL.
Sebastian Butler
Honestly, if they did this exact thing with half of the FE characters, people would probably stop hating FE so much.
It's a clever, borderline ingenious, way to add semi-clones and they already look like more of their own characters then characters like Doc Mario or as mentioned before some of the FE cast.

Are you retarded? They're all alt skins, Hero just has a ton of specials in his basic kit.

> we essentially got 4 characters, each one having widely different specials.
Imagine even for a split second, being THIS retarded
Isaac Butler
When choosing abilities many others that weren't listed was shown so I presumed each alt had their own list.
Wasn't' that the implication?
Elijah Morales
the implication was that they were all on a command menu like the one that had Snooze, Oomph, Psyche Up, and Sizzle
Notice how 8 does the same thinking pose as Erdrick before doing Zoom
Parker Brooks
No? That would mean we'd literally get 4 different characters which would be a balancing nightmare. In the same video we see that Hero can select the special he uses and has multiple specials in each slot.
Furthermore there's only one "Hero" on the Smash website and they're all simple alt skins, how you took this as us getting 4 different characters is beyond me.
Jeremiah Hughes
Ah, alright.
Carter Clark
it really is fucking rad. i can't wait to lab them out and show some rep if i enjoy them enough

>DQ hero gets countless spells from DQ
>Joker gets Eiga, the counters and nothing else when his entire gimmick in the game is being able to switch personas
>Cloud gets nearly no materia skills
Feels bad, I wish all the fighters got equal treatment, but I get it, DQ is massive in Japan, it makes sense that they put more effort into it.
Ryder Nelson
what does Oomph do?
John Foster
oomph in the games increases damage so its a damage buff
Jose Moore
It gives you some real oomph.
It traditionally is a damage buff, so presumably that'll be what it does in Smash, increasing Hero's damage temporarily.
James Morgan
>Oomph
>Psyche Up
These two sound like they do the exact same thing. I mean, I know they don't, but they really need to change the name for one of them.
Julian Thomas
Maybe Oomph and Psych Up will be like Shulk's Buster/Smash, one will be for damage, the other will be for launching.

They are both essentially boosts to your power. Oomph doubles your attack, but Psyche Up powers up the next attack, heal, or defensive magic and then goes away

It didn't seem that way to me, are you sure?

I think the japanese believe Toriyama's style is some kind of perfection you can't improve upon, it's the only reason why DQ rehashes it so much
Tyler Smith
he can draw better than you shiteater
Ryder Hernandez
I feel like this needs to be taken a step further. 17 or Trunks on 11, Yamcha on 4 and Goku on 8. Broly or Vegeta on Eights little partner just because.
Angel Rivera
Nah, I'm just an idiot.

Munchie makes this picture so much better

I've never played DQ but I like Erdrick's design, so I think I'll pick him up and read through the DQ wiki and pretend I was always a fan of the series. I wouldn't actually touch gay JRPG shit with that gameplay though

I've heard DQ3 is the best one but the story isn't as good unless you play the crusty ass originals first

3DS version got rid of random encounters and has more content at the expense of graphics and replacing the beautiful soundtrack with a worse version

Andrew Russell
Did you ever play Pokemon Gold/Silver on the Game Boy after playing Red/Blue? And how after the first half, you could surf east and enter Kanto, the region from the first games, all the way up to a showdown with Red?
That's what the huge thing with Dragon Quest 3 was. In DQ1 and 2 they talk about your character being the descendant of a legendary hero. DQ3 starts off pretty mundane up till you end up in the world from DQ1, and holy shit, you're controlling that legendary hero himself(or herself).
Beyond that, the ones ported or created for DS/3DS are pretty easy to get into outside of 7's massive time commitment and slow pacing. 5 is hailed for its story and extra mechanics like recruiting monsters to your party.
Or you could always wait for 11's definitive edition on Switch in September.
Ian Cooper
nintendo should pop out a yuyuki as an action rpg. a silly weird mix of ancient and modern cultures like the original game had and dragonball

Why
Henry Bennett
I hope we can choose the specials beforehand, like a loadout situation, then switch them in game when the need arises.
Jacob Powell
Pretty sure he was already mentioning the manga since Kefla doesn't even share a stare with Gohan in the anime, but he's still full of shit and in denial that his legendary super saiyan fusion jobbed to a chad in his base form

he is but heroes from better games outshine him in the eyes of most fans. hes the only one i care about personally and nobody really minds him being THE hero, but these new 11 fags are trying to break the status quo by claiming the erdrick title for the luminary

What's the best way to play Dragon Quest I
Parker Martin
It's kind of funny how in both cases, each series got the mascot that isn't very popular in one region, and another similar character that is popular in one region
Simon is Castlevania's mascot, but Japan likes Richter more so they both got in
Erdrick is Dragon Quest's mascot, but America likes Eight more so they both got in
Jason Evans
Brayden Roberts
Only problem is Eight's hair color being wrong.

Put it in this way user.
It's 1986. DQ1 releases and you being a happy japanese kid love it to death because is a game unlike any other you can currently play without knowing english or being an Ultimafag. The whole fucking game, you're given the message that you, the hero, are the descendant of Erdrick, the great brave champion that centuries ago came from nowhere and freed the land from darkness, and at one point you must prove you're part of his lineage to advance with the storyline, getting Erdrick's gear in the process. You love the game to death, remember it.
A couple of.years pass. It's 1990, and you're still dissapointed with DQ2, the sequel that happens some generstions later, what with featuring a big ass world (of which the DQ1 world was only a small part), having a grindy as fuck path to the final dungeon, the DQ1 world being almost featureless and the current king of DQ1's main town being a total wuss, and your second party member being an useless piece of shit.
DQ3 is released, set in a whole new world, completely different from the previous two games. You have party members with classes now, dungeons are more refined and better.and the game is overall a great journey through the vast world to beat the big bad of the land. And, after a gtueling battle with the final boss, you win. End.
Only that not really. You find out there's a bigger final boss in there that was pulling the strings of the previous one. So, in your pursuit of it, suddenly you are warped into a world full of darkness. A goddamn familiar world.
James Collins
And then you find yourself into Alefgard, the fucking DQ1 world. Only that after exploring a while, you find things different that before. The town that was destroyed in DQ1 is still around. The town that had a golem protecting the entrance doesn't have it.
And then you realize that you're in the fucking past.
The game starts nudging you into doing all the things that fucking Erdrick supposedly did all these years ago, leaving the trinkets that the DQ1 hero would find later. Because then the goddamn twist hits you like a truck. After beating the final boss and freeing the land from literal darkness, the king of the land passes on to you the title for which many generations later you would be known.
Erdrick. The DQ3 hero was Erdrick all fucking long. [/spoilers]
A goddamn great twist spanned across three games. Unheard at the time, and its the main reason why Erdrick is by default one of the most popular DQ character of all time.
Michael Brooks
It's time you learned who the superior cartoon around here is bobby boy *whipcrack*
Nathaniel Williams
He's so iconic if Japan ever does a gag in anime, manga, even live action stuff about a JRPG hero or needs to reference a video game at all, 99% of the time it will be somebody wearing Erdrick's outfit. Tiara, blue tunic, cape.
Hunter Evans
So what's the new stage supposed to be?
Daniel Torres
IT'S NOT GOKU!
IT'S NOT GOHAN!
IIT'S ROTO (jp) /ERDRICK (na)!
