The fuck? I love Metroid. Super is my favorite game of all time. We just had a fantastic remake with Samus Returns. Metroid Prime 4 is in development to be the best it can be. If you believe leaks, a new 2.5D game is in development. Just because they don't shit out a game every year like those lazy asses over at Gamefreak do doesn't mean the series is dead. We're in prime revival territory.

I've been playing Metroid every day for the past few weeks. I'm on Prime 2 right now. I understand why Retro puts these key hunts in the end but I really don't enjoy them. Endgame Samus isn't as cool in the 3D games as she is in the 2D games so your victory lap around the world isn't nearly as fun.

What's nice is that this 2.5D game will be on Switch so it has potential to look very pretty. However I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer a hand drawn artstyle like Hollow Knight or a return of sprite work but there's no way that'll ever happen.

Oh I'd love hand drawn or sprite work, but in this day and age, 2.5D is just easier to make. Sad to see it go, but I really liked how Samus Returns ended up looking. I'm just hoping we get a proper 5, move on after Fusion, rebuild our Chozo battle armor, and have a good sized map.

Sakamoto said he was working on it, and if the leaks are to be believed it's being developed, but not ready to be shown yet. Give it another year at most, maybe sooner and we'll see something.

It's true, Metroid is in fine shape right now. I fully expect Metroid 5 as well as Prime 4 sometime in the next few years. We just got SR two years ago.

1. You're overestimating the damage that canceling it would do. Even if Nintendo came out and said they hated Metroid fans, they'd still make billions of dollars of profit from Pokemon alone. Look at the newest game. They're cutting out features left and right, and yet pre-orders are at record highs. You think Nintendo cares about Metroid when they'll be rolling in money at pokemon's release? Oh wait, what am I saying? I'm implying that they aren't already rolling in money. Come to think of it, that addresses the second point too. Even if Metroid Prime 4 was the most expensive game ever made, and cost like a billion dollars (thus trumping The Old Republic and the budget for Read Dead Redemption) that's barely a drop in the Nintendo money bucket.

Yes, I will admit it. I AM the same guy who wants Samus to be a robot. Why? I've seen the concept done so well in every other Metroidvania. When you have a robot protagonist, you don't have time for tragic backstories or emotional overtones or other distractions. You're there to do your job, fight monsters, blow up machines, and generally save whatever world you're in. It just feels like a better backdrop for Metroid than what it currently has.

I'd love to believe that nobody likes Other M, honestly. However, I've been thwarted every single time I go into a Metroid thread and attempt discussion. Samus Returns was a great, immersive experience that refined the classic gameplay with some new additions and built a very intriguing environment and lore. I've replayed it five times already.

Oh, one last thing. You wanting to change Samus into a Robot is just as bad as every person out there that wants to make a character black, or gender swapped, or trans. Fucking make a new character, leave established characters alone.

If I may, I'd like to point out one big difference in this comparison of yours. When someone wants to make a character black, or gender swapped, or trans, it's usually a political statement, done solely for the sake of good PR and virtue signaling. I simply want Samus to be less human because it means we'll never have another abomination like Other M, and hopefully avoid the massive pitfalls of Zero Mission and Fusion, which were the direct result of Samus being an emotional woman with feelings. Say any nice thing you want about Fusion, but you cannot sit there and tell me that it was okay for all sense of exploration to be completely gutted for the sake of the plot. Half the time it didn't even make sense to take away your agency. You're literally told "shut up and go here because I said so." Even when you attempt to sequence break, the game laughs at you and says "yeah nah ya right cunt, get back to the story". They of course say it in a nicer manner.

Well Metroid on NES, despite being revolutionary, aged worse than other nes classics like MegaMan 2, Castlevania, and smb1. People don't know that though and check it out only to be weirded out and bored. Metroid 2 on Gameboy sucks. So really there was only 3 good games for a long time, super, zero mission, and fusion. The fanbase is splintered because the prime games are much more western and a whole different genre really. Other m was a travesty so that didn't help. All this is enough for most normies to avoid the series completely. Even the good games are too hardcore for them anyway so it was never gonna be as accessible as mario or Kirby.

Then comes in the Nintendo loyalists who shit on the fanbase nonstop because nobody liked other m or the rushjob slap in the face nobody asked for that was "federation force". You know what's funny, I started out disliking Samus Returns because I saw it as the reason why it got DMCA'd. But then I gave it a chance, and in addition found dedicated fans who wanted to keep improving AM2R, and now we have two side-by-side metroid remakes with different tastes. I actually warmed up to Samus Returns when I found that at least it wasn't repeating every mistake introduced in OTher M and Fed Force.

You've never been in a metroid thread before? People call me an SJW because my favorite Metroid is Prime 1, and I cite the beautiful ending as one of the reasons. I think it gives Samus her dignity, something she deserves after fighting waves of monsters and aliens and mutated horrors. However, the fandom hates it because there's not enough zero suit. Heck, people just want to skip right to the end of Metroid for the skimpy fanservice, which is why so many defend Other M. It has a special mode that skips the gameplay to get to the special fanservice faster.
