Well, there was a rumor going around that Sony would buy Shift, but after swallowing the Cali bluepill, I doubt that's still in the cards. They tried to buy Insomniac multiple times in the past, but they've been told to fuck of every time. Doubt it's them. Could be Bluepoint, especially if those Demon's Souls remaster rumors going around are true.

Bluepoint are masters at remastering games, they should build an empire on that and stay that way, making them Sony exclusive will hold them back on remastering other games outside of Sony.
Insomniac is really the only one that Sony has never fully appreciated, even though they make better games than naughty dog. Real shame the majority of people prefer boring realistic trash over fun games.

Sony would have to offer more money than they're interested in paying for it to be worth it for a company like Platinum or From Software to permanently take XBox, PC, and Nintendo off the table for platforms they can release on. That's why all of MS' acquisitions have been either indie/mid-tier companies that were struggling (Platinum was in this category for a bit but Nier saved them) or studios whose games were associated with PC and/or XBox strongly enough that taking Playstation/Nintendo off the table wouldn't hurt them much anyway.

I'd guess anything they pick up will similarly be an indie to mid-tier company that's either struggling or already getting most of their money from Playstation anyway- Falcom fits the bill pretty well, come to think of it, but anyone who Sony regularly contracts to make exclusives who also haven't had too much success anywhere else is a possibility.

They should sell off all their current studios like fucking naught dog and buy capcom, sega, etc.

I feel like Ninja Theory wasn't in that bunch of failures. They had to downscale for Hellblade but it sold well and was critically acclaimed. I would have said IOI is in a worse state than Ninja Theory.
The only good remaster they did was the Uncharted collection, since they actually improved the gameplay of 1 and 2.
