The upcoming eighth generation of the mainline Pokemon games, is the first time ever that we get to play them on a home console. Realistically the only way for them to actually start injecting some (Soul) back into the series is if their sales numbers take a dive. But that's never gonna happen. You know it. I know it. You're missing the point. BW locked you to only Unova Pokemon during the main game and it was no issue since it features the biggest Pokedex since Gen 1, but after beating the game you could transfer your older Pokemon to the game. In SS if the Pokemon is not in the Galardex, you can't transfer it at all, period. Is a massive flaw because you're locking who knows how many Pokemon out, many which people have owned since as early as Gen 3 and they might get fucked if they're unlucky enough to have their favorite monsters out of the list.

This is the only way they could save the series. Including all areas, massively multiplayer, you start in a region based on your location. Then you can freely go to other regions after beating your Elite four. You can catch all Pokemon, you can catch pokemon by your self or with friends. (Partys). There's a leaderboard/ranking system for all people who have beat the champion, a new champion is named every 3-4 months for each region, and they compete at the world level for best pokemon trainer/breeder. You can battle in traditional or pokken modes. The battles are more fleshed out, take some kind of skill as well as team composition. The entire moveset will be available but only a few 4-6 moves can be "equipped" at a time. Allowing greater customization. Once a pokemon is completely leveled to 100 it unlocks EVs and IVs to be manipulated in game to further improve the ability of the pokemon. On top of this, there will be one pokemon in your party considered your "partner" pokemon. One you reach max friendship you can unlock a training regiment or quest line to complete the partnership. This gives that pokemon (only one per party) special abilities that can either be customized or increase to make it competitive even as an unevolved pokemon like Pikachu. Complete character customization, fashion arena, dressing up pokemon, skins and clans for faction wars. Lastly interesting and epic quests and raids in order to get a chance to meet and capture legendaries, unique battles and lore about RED/GREEN.
pMegas were a better improvment then z-moves. With Megas that typechanged you had always something in the backhand if shtf and you needed to play a trumpcard, hoping that your opponent doesn't have some hard counter to it. z-moves on the other hand are just a massive (stab mostly) beatstick.

My guess is that Masuda (or maybe other folks in high places) are forcing the staff to stay smaller than necessary because they want to keep pipelining to a minimum and the leads to overlook as much progress as possible so no one strays too much from the directors vision. I know I am going to regret this, but I really hope there's even a sliver of truth behind Masuda's statement about balance. If they majorly reworked stats, moves and abilities I would be okay with a smaller sample size. That being said, they should take a page off Splatoon's book and continuously add foreign pokemon to Galar. Imagine a new evolution line or two every week, and for the duration of the week there's an increased encounter chance to highlight it. It's not ideal, but it gives the development team some breathing room and over time people would get exited over seeing their favorite return to the series. But what do I know, I'm not director of several million-selling games who thought BF needed to go.

I highly doubt it will be that big, but I would love to see a rework of everything available so every other pokemon and move will get outclassed by another option. GF could add these balance patches throughout the game's lifespan but we are talking about a company that exists through a time portal and sends us their games from 10 years ago. I don't think they've realized that you can add updates past the launch of the game yet.
This has been their main problem since X/Y and they don't bother to fix the animations, they could've easily worked in them little by little in these past 7~ years even if they had to outsource the work
