I want to play these games but don't want to invest 200 hours of my life in each one of them.

Isn't the DQ5 hero a mage? I imagine they selected these because they're all reasonably the same moveset.

there, fixed

Attached: 1534921916579.png (317x598, 249K)

This. Can I just choose one and play it? Are they related or is it Final Fantasy-like?

>Not using the DQV hero
>Not using him and his abilities to summon monsters
Complete missed opportunity. He would have been unique, compared to "generic anime sword user no. 14"

FF like. Start with either DQV, DQ8, or DQ11

fuck a pussy and then quest some dragons

Madason is never depicted as a sword fighter. That's why.

Can I fuck dragon pussy? Asking for myself.

1,2 and 3 are related. V is a good starting point since it's not particularly difficult and not insanely long.

Almost all of his equipment is swords and he even hunts the Zenithian sword in an attempt to wield. But let's assume you're right. Why the fuck does the DQ rep have to be another fucking swordsman? I'll take ONE unique DQ rep over 4 anime swordsmen.

no, this is why you have to fuck a human pussy

Because:
1. DQ5 protagonist is canonically a mage
2. Because he ||isn't the Hero||

He does all the heroic shit, his faggot son mattering for ten seconds won't invalidate that.

He himself would be unique out of all the other DQ heroes but the dlc itself is to represent all the heroes in general, and in general most of the heroes are spell slinging swordies. They certainly aren't going to make one exception even if it will be fun because at the end of this it's just a marketing ploy.
At least they could give Madason Pankraz's sword in his appearance in the final smash if they wanted the sword theme.

We missed out on having this based character be playable

Attached: A7rVlWN.jpg (1280x720, 122K)

Kinda related. The first 3, I mean. They go in order 3 >> 1 >> 2, but you don't have to play them all if you don't want to, and basically, the intro in 2 tells you what happened in 1. Also, DQ1 is about 8 or 9 hours long.

3, 5 and 8 are, in my opinion, THE best DQ games. Play them. 4 and 6 are also really good.

>canonically a mage
>majority of his equipment is swords
>LITERALLY casts less spells than other DQ heroes
Please stop typing, retard

Yes, he canonically is a mage in the official novelization and all the artwork, your headcanon doesn't matter.

Attached: DQVDS_-_Hero.png (402x411, 150K)

>DQ5 protagonist is canonically a mage
but that's wrong user
he's a monster tamer
plus always kind of a weirdo

Attached: dhoulmagus2.png (800x450, 257K)

>because he's holding a staff, that makes him a mage

Meanwhile, in the actual fucking game, he uses swords and is hunting the legendary sword to try and use it. You're the one with the headcannon, mate.

>DQ5 hero is a mag-

Attached: Thats a sword numbnuts.png (855x358, 473K)

4 has great waifus, and 8 has the pleasure of being a very good PS2 game that aged well. Of course if you only played these people will consider you a casual. People really like 5, and 11 was also very well received.

And then of course there's the Dragon Quest Monsters line that takes the base gameplay and adds Pokémon and breeding to it. I liked Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker game myself.

The sword and the body type, if all the (default) Heroes from the seires had the same body type and weapon, we would had a full Koopaling case here with the alts, but a lot of the are kids, or are not represented using swords. The Hero from V is famous for his Staff, so in the end only Erdrick, and the heroes from 8 and 4 made the cut alongside Luminary.

Sorry, this was meant for . They're mostly Final Fantasy-like.

Fucking secondaries

More related than FF, less than Zelda. The three first games are related by generations, and then the rest in the series made references to this three, but nothing more. They are all their own story and setting. V and XIII are great starting points, but XI is just perfect to jump into it.

I wanted IX.

Attached: DQIX_-_Hero.png (270x349, 110K)

>READ THE NOVEL
Not the fucking game, numbnuts. If we're going off of shit OUTSIDE THE FUCKING GAME, then look here, this is a fucking sword

>Faggot son hardly matters more than ten seconds
>The protagonist does all the important shit
>People pretend he's not the real hero

Also DQ5’s hero isn’t the hero, it’s his son.

It would also be a huge middle finger to the rest of the series.

I know nothing about DQ but you sound like a bunch of retards, if a character's official artwork that is literally made to represent it has it with a staff then it's a fucking mage, period.
>b-but the sword
A secondary weapon. The other heroes can cast magic too and they aren't mages right? Being user of something doesn't mean it's your specialization

How? DQV is the creator's favorite DQ game and it's one of the most popular games amongst the fans.

>I know nothing about the actual game but here's my opinion and why you're wrong

Attached: 7dbffb772e1729f5049b8a1e7d83b7db[1].jpg (2048x1024, 102K)

nice bulge

Because it wouldnt represent the series at all. Also 3 is the most popular in Japan, 8 is the most popular here. 8 is also more popular in Japan. V is a good guy but not a good representative for the entire series. His entire fucking gimmick is that he isn't even a Hero, his son is.

why not?

Attached: __hero_manya_and_minea_dragon_quest_iv_and_etc_drawn_by_ahn_dongshik__sample-bbb7b87b8188df4f59becaf (850x1172, 281K)

Sounds like arbitrary shit to me.

>he wouldn't represent the series
He's a MC in a fucking DQ game. That's retarded

>3 is the most popular
I said one of, not the most. V is up there in every region

>His entire gimmick is he's not the actual hero
Arbitrary as fuck and the whole point of DQV is not that he's NOT the hero, but he is A hero who accomplished many things.

That's what happens when you're not descended from IVChad's loins.

Attached: dq4art_12.png (735x554, 926K)

Most of them are not that long. V is like 30 hours or something. Have fun.

The hero of dragon quest V is her son. Not the protagonist.

Nothing wrong with Solo. I prefer playing as him over Madason.

stay seething

Well if you'd actually play the game and not just run your damn mouth on shit you don't know, you'd know it's not actually a mages staff, it's a walking stick. He was designed to look like a traveler, not a mage.

>implying I need to know about an specific title when I know about JRPGs and classes
Stop posting pics of you and apologize for even try to deny a mage is a mage because it uses swords despite claim a swordman is a swordman even when it casts spells

>Getting autistic over swords
lmao

Abel doesn't use a sword, canonically. Such a shame.

based

the DQ5 protag design looks more like a Shepherd with the staff given that the game's major mechanic was befriending and leading Monsters.

theyere on the higher end of 30 to 40 if you just wanna get to the end

Whatever, I'm not even going to waste time arguing this. I have 4 great characters all adpated accurately and representative of every game in the series, you can stay salty and seething you didn't get just one character that plays more like a pokemon trainer than Dragon Quest Protag instead.
Bye faggot, have fun with the unhappiness.

Madason isn't the hero. He is the father of the hero and heroine, which is why he only has an alt colour.

ps Bianca is the canon wife, but you already knew that right?

>it's not a mages staff
>Hero's final Smash shows him wielding it like a weapon
OH NO NO NO BROS
IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WALKING STICK

I never saw this man in my life

Because the DQ5 protagonist isn't a hero, his son is

>Debora is the canon wife, but you already knew that right?
everyone already knows this

youtu.be/ANB1TBs6RRA
He's using a sword here.

I'm surprised the trailer didn't get subbed in English yet.

Anyone got the dancing gigs for the seperate characters in XI?

According to the guy that read the official novelization it's literally a mage staff so sorry, your headcanon is crushed by official made, it's a mage staff even if he uses to walk too (like literally every mage staff ever)

Solo is easier to make an alt skin of other heroes because his role and abilities are pretty much the same, standard hero stuff. Madason's role and abilities are more complex and outside of the standard hero role, similar to the vocation heroes (6, 7, 9) and the other outsider (2). I mean, at the very least he got an alt color, which is more than those other non-standard heroes can say. Imagine being a 6 lover and getting cucked by a Terry color.
Also Madason can't equip the Zenithian Sword, the poster-boy sword of that trilogy.

And he's a useless faggot.

*gifs

Nobody likes his kids.

dont be a bitch, play 7

also
he's using Pankraz's sword

Alt colors are worthless, I don't know why anyone defends those.

Anyone else notice that the different heroes had different spells? Seems like they're not just cosmetically different

Reminder Debora can beat Bianca up

They can't possibly be different, Sakurai wont allow it.

each special brings a menu with different spells

Sakurai has stated that different attacks always equals separate slots. They have the same spells. And it's a fuckton of spells.

DQV hero doesn't have the Hero Class moveset. What really triggers me is that they decided to include the DQV hero instead of his son for the group Kazap spell despite the fact that the DQV hero does not learn zap spells. I would have been satisfied with the DQV hero having his hand resting on his son's shoulder while the son has his sword held aloft, but that would have added another problem of Ninty having to pick a haircolor (and by extension a mom) for the son. DQV will always be the odd duck when comes to representation, Hori strayed too far from the mold.

Are you fags really arguing that a novelization is more important in vidya cannon than the actual fucking game itself?

With poofy hair like that, you can expect a glorious green bush.

Don't they normally just make the kids blonde by default?

1 The game never tells you he's specialized in swords (aka that he's a swordman)
2 It's "canon" you retard

user only one party members needs to know the Kazap spell for the others to pool in

>iconic
Generic. Swordsmen.

Please don't argue with the "it's a mages staff" retards. They've obviously never played the game.

for real I didn't even recognize him. I knew the other three and I even played those games, but they were the only ones I ever played. Who even is this green guy and why is his helmet lookin so retarded? You can't get better than 3 and VIII so don't try

11 is special only because it's the most recent, it's an okay game but I fucking love Veronica soooooo fucking much holy shit, she's so perfect. Bully me some more you sexy thing. Step on me and call me trash you delightful little angel, aahhnn please spit in my mouth too

user, I don't think you get it. Nobody likes the faggot son. Him being the 'Hero' is a cute twist, but it doesn't make him the MC or the hero.

I fucking brought up the way Smash Bros represented Madison. The fuck are you talking about, retard?

No. He's a front line fighter. His spells are mostly there as a fall back in case your main spell casters are having trouble.

>but that would have added another problem of Ninty having to pick a haircolor (and by extension a mom)
Not really it's always Bianca anyway, thats as canon as 9's design.
Then again, maybe Sakurai chose Nera when he played lol

I don't think so, hardly anyone plays as default colors online and unlike most other heroes, V fans get to actually rep their boy.

Attached: 1555625035554.jpg (1850x1850, 454K)

youtu.be/pupll3ON-WA?t=168
>Madison looks like he's about to cast a magic spell with his mage staff
OH NO NO WALKING STICK BROS WE LOST

DQV hero isn’t actually meant to be the hero in the same manner his father was not the hero either. Madason and his father were both in a journey to find the true hero which turned out to be Madasons son

>Rep your boy
>Shitty recolor on Erdick
Nah.

reminder that debora was literally put in as a joke

>tfw you have your smash attack ready

Attached: dy8kd.jpg (630x473, 41K)

>defend those

I don't get it, it's a bad thing that they're there at all?

>getting memed into thinking DQV is the best
lolno
youtu.be/TcRHTFKBvv0

Hyadain used to make fan videos about DQIV for a reason.

>joke wife ends up being the best
Debora is based as fuck

Yes, exactly like that

Every line Veronica said was super excellent, and she really brought the game to life. Her sister had nearly no personality and most of the characters were bland except the literal gay one who was also pretty cool.

Doesn't help that the protag is still silent and a supplicant for you the player, I would totally submit to every one of her tiny whims as her slave. I want to kiss your feet Veronica, I love you!

His son was worthless.

It's a bad thing to count them as having value.

>picking anyone but Debora

Attached: happy family.jpg (827x832, 600K)

Games trump novelisations

If that was the case Baldur's Gate 2 would be beyond repair so thank fuck for that

Hey, I'll take that over nothing at all. I can't really be mad about it because I like IV as well. V is objectively the better game, but IV was my first.

Reminder that picking Deborah is the only way all three girls end up with someone

>playing the ds version
I've always stuck with the snes version, was the first version I played and I don't see any reason to play the others.

Attached: 391720_p0.jpg (750x1050, 384K)

lol you got issues did his son bully you or something haha seriously the hell is wrong with you?

The son is the hero, but he's not the protagonist. That "cute twist" is one of the most memorable in the series, and maybe all JRPG's.

how so

Why would I care about who the others end up with? That's not my problem.

He's just boring and only matters briefly, he's not the star of the game.

Since when do novelizations take precedence over the source material? In the game he's clearly not a mage character. His wisdom is average at best when compared to the other named characters and he spell list is limited.

>and maybe all JRPG's
It's a good twist, but not that good.

I wouldn't even call him the hero. He's The Hero, as in the role, but the one who actually accomplishes just about everything is still the protagonist.

DQ1: ~10h
DQ2: ~20h
DQ3: ~30h
DQ4: ~30h
DQ5: ~30h
DQ6: ~40h
DQ7: ~70h
DQ8: ~60h
DQ9: ~50h
DQ11: ~50h

So, more like ~400 hours.

>God Tier: V, VIII
>Great Tier: IV, III
>Meh Tier: VII, VI, I, II, IX
didn't play XI

Novelizations approved by Square Enix further reinforced by how Madison is portrayed in Smash Bros. Get over yourself, nerd.

So you've never actually played the fucking game

>we could have had a heroine with a cute leotard and huge, poofy hair
It makes me mad since Solo's design is so fucking boring compared to her. It feels like Toriyama put all the effort into her and then made him in a couple minutes.

Attached: 8732708_p0.jpg (1446x1118, 166K)

>DQ7: ~70h
Quit lying. DQVII is more like 100-110 hours.

What's in the game doesn't mean shit if Square Enix decides to go with something else. Which is why Madison is using his staff like a mage would in Smash.

All official material is approved by Square-Enix, you moron. By you own logic the fact that he's using a sword in the movie trailer means that he's not a mage. That's also approved by Square-Enix. How about you just stop being a fucking retard.

>novelizations mean Canon
Novelizations are only approved to make money, they are not Canon, dumbass. Especially when they contradict the very source material

That argument existed when it was just Bianca & Nera too with people saying Nera had someone already
it's also just as dumb now as it was then, why should you give a shit about that sort of thing? Pick whoever you want. You're lucky Deborah's best girl or else I'd call you a faggot.

>Keeps ignoring Smash Bros

They only start going over 50 hours once you get to 7. The rest are all fairly short by traditional JRPG standards.

His ultimate weapon is a staff and I'm pretty sure his ultimate armor was a set of robes.

Like I said, never played the fucking game

Though the game may have ended, that’s not to say the story ended there. Though I agree that they should have done more for him within the story to make him worthy of being the hero that saves the world.

Because he deserves some love too. Look at everyone ITT wanting to fuck his female counterpart.

Attached: Dragon.Quest.IV.full.821805.jpg (797x567, 409K)

The fuck? His design is just as good as hers, easily the best male one. His design is anything but boring.
Also shes never get in Smash looking like this

>If I keep ignoring Smash Bros and how Square Enix approved Madison to appear in it, I'll win the argument!
retard
bet you married Bianca too lmao

Oh shit guys, Mother 2 the game isn't canon. Smash is shit because it doesn't represent he true canon Mother 2 novel and instead only the shitty game.

Attached: m2_novel_front3.jpg (392x349, 60K)

>the offshoot brawling game is more Canon than the actual game itself
Lmao

DQ5 hero is originally depicted with a staff in his illustrations, not with a sword. That's also how he looks in the Final Smash. He wouldn't fit as a costume.

>How you want your hair pham?

Attached: 4.jpg (393x362, 26K)

No, you're just bullshitting. His best weapon is the Dragon Staff and he appears in other DQ games with it. He's a sort of a Mage and Monster Master mix(without the breath abilities). Also don't be a smartass and say it's the Metal King Sword as that applys to all of the Zenithian games.

That and his sprite always has him with a staff

His best equips are the Metal King Sword and Armor.

I disagree, it's just a basic outfit and a green tunic. I have no problem with male protagonists, in DQIII I go male always, but DQIV is one of the few games I feel the female protagonist

My personal favorite DQ hero is the DQVII hero. I love the pointy hat and details like the belt for his oversized clothes, it makes him feel like just a goofy kid. Also this is just me but I prefer Toriyama's art to use more exaggerated and cartoon like proportion, the "muscular" style he adopted later on isn't as charming to me.

Attached: DQVII3DS_-_Hero.png (322x696, 262K)

>DQ9: ~300h
fixed

XI is really not super great. It's fun. I played through it completely. It has some decent story twists. But it just never gives you a real motivating factor. The primary villain is bad just because, and you essentially don't meet him for half the game, and then he's gone again.

There's more to it than that, but it's not like V or VIII where there's a strong narrative driving the progression, or a fun system to explore.

It does have a moment that makes it a little more forgiven near the end, but it feels like it takes too long to reach that point.

Just start with 11. the games are not related to each other so you won't have any problems.

>DQ11: ~50h
lol no. 50h is probably barely enough to finish act two. You still have the third part/postgame to worry about.

Walking stick but I get what you're saying. I'm arguing he should have been the base design, not alt skin. He would have been more unique

Square Enix is involved in how characters are represented and Sakurai is autistic over character representation too. Which is why Sakurai went with the magic staff and Square Enix allowed it.

From VII on are closer to 100 hours. I can't image how much you skipped to finish those games that quickly.

>Walking stick
mage's staff

His design is simple, but it works. I like the color scheme.

But that doesn't make it Canon, retard

Arus is best boy

Dragon Quest 5 lead has many story and design reasons why he won't fit. But mainly because He's not the hero.

Attached: 5d9edcdb9e39aa8b7cb5102bce1aa64a.jpg (900x720, 143K)

If it wasn't 'canon', they wouldn't have allowed it.

Lmao believe what you want, brainlet

>DQ9: ~50h
wat

Perhaps he meant on the 3DS
It was only 75 hours for me on there, not counting extra of course

Imagine how much shit your dad had to do to be a king, and he wasn’t the hero.

I bet Mexicans will pick him the most

Attached: Los-Caballeros-del-Zodiaco-1-800x400.jpg (800x400, 83K)

I believe what Square Enix has approved

>reading game novels

Attached: 1555443550061.jpg (960x960, 30K)

so Arus (7 MC) is the youngest right?

>Retards still pretending anyone cares about his shit son

Just be happy a slot wasted on this fucking guy. I don't know how Toriyama fucked up the designs for DQVI so bad, they're all terrible.
Deep down I was secretly wishing he would be a playable alt but I knew his proportion were too catoony for him to be used. It's a shame I would have mained him for sure. I really love DQVII's cast.
Even the 3ds version is still at least 100 hours though, not counting bonus stuff.

Attached: DQVIDS_-_Hero.png (290x457, 163K)

Clearly Square-Enix and Sakurai cared enough to not make Madason an alt.

Square Enix also approved/allowed this:
So please, explain this, dumbass.

And his son doesn't even show up in the final smash.

>why didn't sakurai pick the not-hero character to represent the hero class

The SNES version is ugly desu

>they're all terrible.
ahem

Attached: Terry2.png (474x724, 290K)

I am fucking disgusted by the amount of anons that haven’t played a single dragon quest game, i tought the board that complains all the time about censorship in obscure dungeon crawler games would know the fucking basics of all J-RPGs

I feel you, but atleast I got Eight!

When I first saw Luminary, I was like "aww, well atleast DQ is in Smash..."
But then Eight Appeared, and I was practically foaming at the mouth!

>tfw I started with 7 even though everyone said not to
I loved it

Attached: D6JB0AoW4AAZau3.jpg (286x236, 13K)

Nobody is saying that Madison can't use a sword. But it's not a walking stick, it's a mage's staff and it's his most iconic weapon. And Smash Bros used what was most iconic. Madison didn't get in because his most iconic weapon was a mage's staff and you need to accept that.

>I'm surprised Yea Forums doesn't actually play video games

Shut up you stupid retard, you know for a fact you're only saying that because you fap to the stupid looking afro girl.

>I wanna play DQ which one do I start with?
Number fucking 1. It's short, inoffensive, simple and you can play it on your phone. I'd tell you to skip it, but playing it is a requirement to understand the main twist of DQ3.
DQ2 can be skipped somewhat safely, it does introduce a lot of mechanics and setpieces that would become mainstays in DQ games, but it doesn't realise those things particularly well. The game feels a bit bloated, like they ran out of content halfway through development and still wanted to make the game longer. Also it requires some hard fucking grinding closer to the end. It's also relatively disconnected from the plot of the Erdrick trilogy, being the latest in the timeline. So just skip it unless you're looking for a history lesson rather than a fun vidya experience.
DQ3 is a shining jewel and a massive leap forward for the series, PLAY IT.
There's only one problem with it - the version choice. The choice is between the mobile version and the fan-translated SNES remake (because the remake was never officially released in the west). Mobile version features a good localisation (arguably), an option of auto-combat and it highlights items hidden in the cities and dungeons with little sparkles. The remake has animated monster sprites, a somewhat fun boardgame style minigame, you HAVE to class switch into a thief at some point just to learn a spell that helps you find aforementioned hidden items, and the fan translation is janky as fuck, a fact that will probably impact you if you're trying to beat the game without walkthroughs.
It's a shame that we don't have the "definitive" version of the best DQ out there, but that's how it is, make your choice. Or just play both versions, I did that.
After 3 just play them all in order, they're all great to good, with part 6 being the lowest point of the series past part 2 (still decent, but you'll learn to fucking hate the game if you try to get deep into the modified class switching system).

Attached: 1537635550257.jpg (891x930, 60K)

this to a tee

I was a little surprised I thought people were joking the whole time but they really haven't

>IX
>Meh Tier
I will fight you!

>wah I don't care about lore I just want him!
Thankfully Horii and Sakurai care about the story. Plus, DQV is already getting a movie later this year. He's been though enough.

>thinking a video game movie is canon
You've hit rock fucking bottom.

But a novelization and a cameo are?

do I get DQ11 on pc for better loads/mods or wait for the definitive version on switch? never played a DQ game if that makes a difference for some reason

Now I know you're just shitposting. If not, I don't. I'm just saying shit outside of the actual game itself is inconsistent and not Canon

Nigger he's not using the staff AT ALL as a mages staff in the movie trailer. He's only using his father's sword
He casts magic with his offhand WITHOUT the fucking staff.

If you're theory about "they approved its production, it's Canon" is true, then explain the discrepancy, dumbass

You do realize that's a fucking walking stick he's holding retard? Or do you think the twig he's holding in the artwork where he's a kid is a magic wand? Or did you forget how his best weapon in the entire game is also a stick, and not a magic staff? OR how in all the official artwork he is never actually casting spells? Or how he's the only character in the franchise that uses 20 fucking MP to cast Zoom?

If you have a Switch, go for that, if not, PC(if yours is strong enough)

The Pallium Regale has the same stat as the MKA. The Dragon Staff is a better option as Madason is the only one that can equip it, the MKS can only be obtained the casino so it's better for someone else. Unless you like grinding slot machines.

"Hero" in DQ isn't just a title, it's a fucking class, like a cleric or a martial artist. And hero class has certain abilities and equipment tied to it. It just so happens that all the DQ protags revealed for smash belong to that very class, which is why all of them playing the same makes sense.
In DQ5 the main character is a monster tamer (a new class introduced in that game, later used in other DQ games too) while his son is the one that's a hero.
It's not even unique to DQ5, DQ2 main character is a warrior, in DQ6 any character can switch to the hero class if they grind hard enough and in 9 the class doesn't appear at all.

DQVI protag gets mogged so hard by Terry in every media involving his game that I wouldn't have been surprised if they had Terry in his place during the final smash. Terry's signature sword Sunderbolt Blade casts zap, too, so it wouldn't have mattered that he wasn't Hero class.

>Inserting words into my mouth

>Still ignoring how Madison with the staff is his most iconic interpretation (which Smash Bros tends to favor) and how Smash Bros has him using it like a staff
t. Bianca cuck

Man it's nice to see that they actually have pants unlike Link's faggy "Of the Wild" outfit.

Well Terry managed to beat him for an alt color at least.

>being so mad an official product supports what official canon art shows and destroys your stupid headcanon

A lot of the first DQ games are really short. Was able to get to the end game in 4/5/6 in all about 20 hours or so. The time meme started with 7/8 where they decide to pad shit out too much.

Attached: 1554931813456.gif (199x190, 1.23M)

DQ11 is probably closer to 75 hours, 50 hours and you probably completed act 2 without any extensive grinding or side quests and objectives.

>didn't play XI
>gives it a time estimate

Have you been introduced to our lord and savior, NTR?

is there any non-cuck porn of him

Because it makes sense to not include him.
Sakurai is a genius

Get outta here, horse boy. There's no-one to cuck here, this thread is for Heroes only.

>still ignoring the game and movie that portray him with a sword
Fat chick cuck

I wanted Terry too.
Was my favorite in DQ Heroes series

Next you'll ask if an anime about college exists.

Sell me on DQ as a whole. I tried to get into the Super Famicom remake of 3 but I found it boring, basic, with nonexistent characters or story

GOOOOD MORNING DQV FANS

Dragon Quest IV is based, and the hero has a great design. I honestly was shocked that he got into the game as playable., I was really happy. Let me have this Yea Forums, give him your love.

Also having his own spin-off helps make him more popular as well.

>game
>portray him with a sword
>all official art show him with a staff
>his final personalized weapon is the fucking Dragonstaff

The only thing that's canon are the games. More specifically, DQ5 and Victory Road (the latter being the game where the Dragon Staff is his signature weapon).

>this thread is for Heroes only
Sounds like prime choice for cucking.

Your last post just did the same thing, smart guy.

>VII meh tier
Pleb filtered

>they canonically were the only two to stick with the hero post-game
The GAME even knew they were the best girls

"Doesn't understand Dragon Quest" is going to be one of the most common phrases on the internet for the next few years. Much like Mother and Fire Emblem back at the turn of the century.

Attached: 1468433137373.png (1514x1440, 2.47M)

You mentioned his son, implying anyone cared.

>still ignoring the game
the games are the very reason why people associate him with a staff
all official art has him with the staff
does this official image make you SEETHE?

Can't escape the STD whore twins.

>Next you'll ask if an anime about college exists.
Not a good example, because there are a couple dozen.

It's the AK47 of JRPGs. A gamey game that stays true to it's roots and doesn't try to be a bloated digital anime. Like the polar opposite of final fantasy.

fucking dragon quest man

Attached: dq dialogue .png (1000x1000, 301K)

Too bad the game also does that dumb shit by having achildhood friend who is the obvious love interest to the hero. Alena and Mina are so much better, though I would feel bad cucking Kiryl.

>that Terry recolor
I love it

There's a doujin where he's a chick and she mindbreaks Madason into her breeder fuck rod. Cuckqueening Bianca doesn't count as regular cuck porn right?

Really happy they stopped forcing that ugly redesign ofvthe DQI hero, it looks awful.

Even the longest game (DQ7) has a 3DS version that is around 60 hours at the most.

DQ localization was a fucking mistake.

4 has a better story and a cast with very big personalities at the expense of 3's class system.

>You mentioned his son
No I didn't. You did. I just said he's not the hero.

I'm noticing a pattern. You must be the same idiot who's been in every DQ thread for the last two days. You make totally stupid comments with zero knowledge of Dragon Quest. Then when someone calls you out on your shit, you just claim they brought it up or greentext them until the thread dies. Here's a novel thought. Just stop posting stuff about a series you don't understand.

Why didn't they use this based design?

I don't know shit about Dragon Quest, is this one well liked?

Attached: 3595_Ke314khp.png (439x604, 154K)

Yup. I wish they had fired the localization director, but he's still going strong. And now he's infecting the Mana remake.

>where he's a chick
dropped
but thanks for the suggestion anyway

>that is around 60 hours at the most
Stop talking about things you don't know. The 3ds version cuts some of the original'sbullshit but's still 100 hours or so.

DQ2 is the true pleb filter.

the thing about him is that he doesn't use magic at all
he's pretty much a Warrior

The dude's a warrior without any spells at all. No, it's the worst in the series hands down.

Attached: 1540537871871.jpg (600x678, 318K)

yes but his game is garbage

DQII and VI have the least popular heroes. They're not hated, just overshadowed by characters within their own game and other games.

Meant for

The DS remakes are pretty ugly except for the battle sprites.
Probably one of the ugliest games I've ever seen.

>and now he's infecting the Mana remake
But why? What does he have to gain by completely rewriting multiple jrpgs?

Maya*

howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=40485

73 hours

And you know what you do with that staff in the game? You bludgeon fuckers over the head with it. His role in that game is not a spell caster. He's a physical attacker. He has high strength, hp, and defense. He's not a mage just because he has a staff and can cast some spells. What is wrong with you people?

>How dare you not like his son you must be this random bogeyman I made up

>surprised Yea Forums doesn't play casual games

Chapter 1's dialogue in a nutshell.

Maya is okay, I prefer the quiet types like Mina or full on tomboys like Alena.

>Solo gets a shitty priestess alt color that no one will use instead of a genderswap
missed opportunity.

I "liked" DQ2 as a kid, I disliked that it cut out the backgrounds from battle, and thought the game was insanely more grindy and vague with where I was supposed to go. It's maybe the least offensive "growing pains" sort of game, if that makes any sense. It's maybe lower on the list compared to other DQ games, but I'd be willing to give it a playthrough again someday.

Yeah, it is surprising. Yea Forums is full of casuals newfag. Just look at how unpopular genres like rts and fighting are here.

Well that explains why he's no one of the skins then

Either way it doesn’t matter. At least they’re getting representation. Doubt it will boost sales much though.

I wish I knew. Sales have proven that dialects don't work. But yet he forces dialects into every new game he oversees. And since he's the localization director for the company, that's most of them. We even got the dialect crap in FFXII and XIV.

DQ1 hero alt actually.

Attached: 1558360205199.png (663x769, 340K)

More of a hybrid than anything. Not the best attack (Golem outshadows him) but not the best magic caster.

They were made using an engine built for the ps1. Even at release DQVII was heavily criticized for being ugly as fuck. It's a bit of a shame, around that same time games like Saga Frontier 2 and Breat of Fire IV were releasing and those games look gorgous. Hell, Breath of Fire has maybe the best animation in any sprite based game. Shame DQVII cpuldn't have looked more like those.

people here too busy shitposting to play games

I' playing hsenmhje 2 right nowt

This. Stopped playing when the game called me a wonderful person.
Fuck you, Horii

I know, I was just arguing he's a staff user and not a sword user.

Anyone with common fucking sense knows he's not a mage.

All of the games are designed to be pick up and play. You're meant to play them in small chunks, and DQXI is basically episodic in it's storytelling.

Nice, let me know what you think hsenmhje 2 phone poster.

DQIII is a class based game. It has plenty of story, but the story is found by talking to NPCs and exploring. Not triggering a cutscene. If you want a game with lots of cutscenes and linear events, you need to play Dragon Quest VII or XI.

Attached: 1484550094896.jpg (600x906, 168K)

shenmue 2

cn't reach kehys all good from how I'm sittong at pc home but it's ocmbyg

fan't reachx deletre key either

I never would have made that connection because the Priestess class is more iconic. You're totally right, though, the boots are white instead of piss yellow so it's representing the DQ1 hero.

And?
It's still ugly.

You always use staves and magic wands as bludgeon weapons in these games, the magical aspect of them is that you can use them as items in battles to cast spells.

The reason the faggot who's citing the licensed novel over the actual game is utterly fucking wrong is because the hero can't equip any of the fucking magic wand weapons in that game. Just the traveler's stick (because he's holding a walking stick) and the Dragon Staff, because that's his version of the Zenithian Sword.

Why can't he use magic wands? Because he's not a fucking mage class. He's about as much of a wizard as Cannock is in 2 or Meena is in 4. He's a solid physical fighter who dabbles in wind and healing magic, both of which are done better by actual mages in those games.

I was just saying why they were ugly, made on a shitty engine meant for ps1.

I feel bad for 1
Imagine being the first yet being so overshadowed by everyone after to the point of just being an alt color.

>but the story is found by talking to NPCs and exploring. Not triggering a cutscene
This is the ideal way of doing it. I don't understand how people don't get sick of the other way.
>fight a battle
>cutscene
>finish battle
>cutscene
>walk into town
>cutscene
>walk deeper into town and talk to someone
>cutscene
>leave town
>cutscene
>enter dungeon/cave/whatever
>cutscene

It's all so fucking tiresome.

The staff's not the issue. Everyone's mad at the faggot going READ THE OFFICIAL CANON NOVEL, HE'S A MAGE, JUST LIKE IN THE OFFICIAL ARTWORK FOR THE GAME I JUST TOLD YOU TO IGNORE.

That's just how staffs work in the game. Still a magic staff.

This and Fortune Street got me onto Dragon Quest, so I'm more than happy that Solo is in Smash, too bad that the casino rag won't be in the game it's god tier

I'm starting to get real annoyed at fivies who never played any other games in the series

I feel the same way about VIIIbabies. See idiots complain about them being 2d and not 3d is infuriating.

out of curiosity's sake what are the heros of each game's design?

and is 7 a good place to start? It has customizable party members "classes, etc"

>actual magic wand weapons the Hero in V can't equip because he's not a wizard
>staff of anti-magic
>staff of divine wrath
>staff of salvation
>magma staff
>Stolos' staff

>non-magical mundane staff weapons he can use because he's a staff user
>oaken staff
>bamboo spear
>iron staff
>cypress stick

>Magical staff weapons he can use
>Staff of Resurrection
>Dragon Staff (which only he can equip)

DQ boys are cute, and bless based Sakurai for giving us four of them with nice palette swaps as well.
Anyways, I recently loaded up my copy of DQ VI Remake. I had forgotten just how much I actually love these games, and all I’m doing is just walking around talking to people and reading the party’s banter. What other DQ games and spinoffs are available on the DS, 3DS, Switch, PS4, or Vita in English? I only have DQ VI Remake (DS), DQ IX, DQM 1, DQM 2, Fortune Street, and I’ll be picking up DQ XI S later in the year... kind of thought it would be easier to just ask here.

1 is like 6 hours my man.

There's more 8fags who have never played any other games in the series.

DQ Monsters Battle Road was an amazing game.
youtube.com/watch?v=NINJJ7urTZY

I prefer exploring and finding the story as well. But many people just never tried it or grew up with Final Fantasy style games. I think if they gave it a shot, they'd like it the other way. But as that guy said, he couldn't get into it.

Attached: 1484961047248.jpg (500x450, 37K)

7 is most definitely not a good place to start, that's a game you should only play if you're a fan of the series. Try the snes version of III or V or VIII or XI for your first one.

What do you mean by "design"? Like what they do gameplay wise? Hero as a class is based on DQ1 mostly and really takes it's shape in 3, from that point on Hero class is mostly the same other than 5 (where the main character is a monster tamer and his son is the hero instead), 6 where hero is just a class that anyone can grind into and 9 where hero doesn't exist at all and your main character can switch classes like everyone else.
As for the second question look here I wouldn't advice starting with 7, it's somewhat bloated.

certainly had some cool animations

Attached: 1554425390048.webm (480x360, 2.46M)

He's getting a movie, let the other guys have some fun for once.

I'm just buying the Switch version of 11 because of the classic mode. I played most of these games on handheld so I like the 3D games but Dragon Quest to me loos like 1-7.

7 is so long you're liable to get bored of it before you reach the end, but it's underrated. Has one of the most in depth job systems in the entire franchise, which got dumbed down in the 3DS remake at the cost of trying to make it less broken, which monster classes make pointless anyway. 8's a great game but it replaces classes with skills which aren't as fun or deep. 9 has classes AND skills which is great, but it's a DS game only.

why does japan love 3 so much

youtube.com/watch?v=ZcGEHWKpnOY

Attached: dq3.jpg (977x608, 167K)

Good question, why do people like 3 a lot anyway?

At least it's a somewhat traditional DQ game. 5 sacrifices too many gameplay conventions for the sake of plot, you don't even get a proper party until you get de-statued at 2/3rds into the game, characters constantly being yanked away from you at the whims of the plot before that. And the monster taming is a total rng mess.
It's still the best DQ game when it comes to the plot, but it's hardly the best way to experience the series, since it's also the only one that relies on the plot so heavily. I cringe every time I see people tell others to play it first, that's totally not what DQ series at large is about.

Attached: 1540138728147.jpg (773x994, 221K)

Because it was the best one up to that point. 1 created the JRPG, 2 refined it and 3 polished it even more and added the class system.

Because that's the one the old Japanese men remember playing.

>characters constantly being yanked away from you at the whims of the plot

That's one of the things I hate most about 7.

yet the "hero" appears in the final smash fully grown. i think most fans of 5 think of him the real hero anyway.

Because it's a gamey game's game. There's no plot or cutscene bullshit, you start the game, hire some murderhobos and go kill shit. In later games you'd have to play through hours long intro first, but here it's all very condensed, with no useless filler in-between the actual good bits.

Attached: 1555708823685.png (700x648, 807K)

This character is pretty much everything I was hoping for, right down to having multiple skins for different heroes. Only disappointment is not getting to see any party members in the final smash or otherwise

Because it's probably still the best one.

oh yes they are ds: 4-6 +9
>3ds: 7&8
>10 is japan only due to online multiplayer
>vita has only builders I believe
>switch also has builders & the japanese versions of 2 dynasty style games
>ps4 has the same as vita but the dynasty games are available in english& vanilla dq11
>also mobile has the games from 1-6 & 8 but you can only play with your phone upwards and the touch controls suck imo
hope that helped somehow

he honestly reminded me more of broly

who is the hero of 10 if 10 is a MMO? does he even final smash?

You might wanna emulate or pirate the mobile version of 4 though, since it's western DS release removed the party banter button for no good reason. It's back only in the mobile version, which is exactly the same as the DS version otherwise.

There's a default design, and yes he's in the final smash

Attached: maxresdefault[1].jpg (1280x720, 248K)

He's the dude in the plain warrior gear in the Final Smash.

dq 4 is 26-28 hours long
dq 5 is 30 hours long

dq 7 is 80-100 hours long
dq 8 is 70 hours long

Is there gameplay released of The Hero yet? Other than the initial reveal trailer, of course.

So you're saying it's a game for gamers?

Attached: jared-leto-joker-suicide-squad-trailer-2015-billboard-650-1528276210.jpg (480x319, 15K)

DQ3 is so ingrained into their culture at this point, no different than Gundam.

oh yep there he is.

that's Loto of the first game, lol

they just took the dude from the first DQX boxart
should be noted that the expansions use different player designs, so the one used in Smash isn't really the defacto DQX character

Attached: Dragon Quest X Version 2.jpg (903x1280, 465K)

Nah, we're going to have to wait for Sakurai's usual gameplay video. They'll probably just drop it like they did Joker's. We've barely seen the stage too.

No, Loto's the guy with the retarded helmet. The dude who looks like the default warrior costume in DQ 9 is the hero of 10.

He’s the first of the Zenithian trilogy. I’m sure someone’s upset we don’t have the female version.

ah ok i don't remember much about 9 except the angel train shit and it being a narratively weak game in the series.

Sofia looks dumb anyway.

Season 3 subs fucking when

Attached: 1322626490208.jpg (1600x1200, 748K)

Why are DQ final bosses so fucking forgetful

And despite having none of that the reveal with the world of the previous game is pretty good.

I remember 7 for being gay

Dragon lord is pretty iconic for just being a DRAGON AWOO but yes, all of these others are more just weird demonic wizards. i did like Rhapthorne.

Because most of them are twists or just overshadowed by their underlings. Psaro from 4 was pretty memorable at least, since he fucks with you from the game's very start and there's a lot of focus on him specifically.

>fight a bunch of battles
>nothing happens except for a generic boss giving a short evil speech before the battle
>talk to a bunch of NPCs
>OHHH THE EVIL LORD HAS AWOKEN THIS IS SO SCARY BUT YOU'RE THE CHOSEN HERO I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE
>fight the final boss
>MUAHAHAHA I AM THE FINAL BOSS BEFORE WE FIGHT HOW ABOUT YOU JOIN ME INSTEAD HAHAHA
>choose yes
>MUAHAHAHAHA YOU CHOSE WISELY
>player blacks out and nothing actually happens
>choose no
>I SEE SO IT HAS COME TO THIS THEN WE SHALL FIGHT
>beat final boss
>THAT WAS NOT EVEN MY TRUE FORM PLAYTIME'S OVER GIVE ME POWERRRRRRRRRRR
>beat final boss's true form
>nothing happens
>you walk back to the castle and marry the princess and nothing of interest ever happened
>literally zero gameplay depth so you don't get any sort of satisfaction

the one on the left is my husband

>movie's going to have Bianca
I get why and all but it's still frustrating

I think Psaro's design was the most memorable especially when they made it even more grotesque in the DS version where losing his limbs and regrowing them in his final form were animated.

I have fan subs but they dont synch right fucking sucks I want to continue the adventure

Psrao was cool because he had an actual character arc and the final fight went on forever. Nimzo was less of an antagonist than the guy who actually killed your father, they should have just combined the two together. Rhapthorne was fun because of how retarded all of his forms looked and for being a complete cockroach of a boss. The coolest thing about him was how the heroes of the past trapped his corpse in a statue of the Goddess so every single day for centuries hundreds of pilgrims prayed to it, keeping the seal on it in check.

Well he is pretty handsome.

Attached: 1321672978222.png (480x640, 89K)

I remember the retarded random encounters at the end of 2 more than any of these guys.

Psaro, Mortamor and Orgodemir I find memorable because of their extra forms and their challenge. Orgodemir especially as he's losing his shape and how he hates using his main form for being ugly and is eventually forced into some disgusting hybrid form, it's pretty badass.

What's up with the cuck stuff in V?

Anyone has the official jap youtube upload link to this?

I feel the same about Deathmoore/Mortamor as you do with Nimzo. Mudo/Murdaw drives most of the first half of the game like Ladja then after you kill him the rest of VI felt like an afterthought and filler, and Ladja at least lasted all the way to the end.

Your wife is kidnapped by this horse dude who also helped kill your father. You fight and kill him with your wife's help. That's it. Obviously sweaty nerds had to insert their cuck fantasies into this moment.

Attached: 7db6e50553ef70d920f14d69d9b53379.jpg (700x979, 531K)

It doesn't help that lots of DQV doujins are NTR based on that part of the game.

Staff in final smash when the others are using their weapons, swords. It's a stuff, dummy. Chill out.

>Obviously sweaty nerds had to insert their cuck fantasies into this moment.
blame Biancafags

Because the "final" boss is not really the end of the game. It's just a major battle to feel like you accomplished defeating something. But the real ending is usually going back to previous locations and seeing the NPC reactions or how your hero reacted.

Basically, the boss isn't meant to be the thing you remember when beating the game. The characters and world is. And Dragon Quest VIII did this the best, with a whole post game story that ties everything together.

You know what would be nice the next time they remake 1 and 2? A post-game dungeon where the hero from 1 joins the party of the 2 cast so you have the standard four member party group.

because he's SO-SO handsome.......

Attached: 1537947476130.png (444x361, 75K)

Should mention that the mobile version of 4 is actually superior to DS because it adds the party talk button while being functionally identical in every other way. Also starting with 4 seems like a good idea, since it's the first in Zenithian trilogy and makes the castle's devastation in 5 a bit more impactful while also giving the context for the whole "legendary hero" thing.

Attached: 1537623468055.jpg (1024x768, 222K)

>sittong

Kek, this is a very underrated comment

Isn't the android version of IV the only one with translated party chat? Although I have no idea if they didn't goof anything else.

I can't actually decide whether I like fixed party members or custom-recruited ones, ala 3 and 9, more. Obviously, the latter suffers in actual characterization, but sometimes I wanna make my adventuring party comprised of a bunch of martial artists or something silly.

I had that on the old list, but the smartphone version has it's own problems. The sad fact is, there's no definitive version of DQIV in the west. They screwed something up on each version. Might as well just keep it consistent with DS for all three.

Attached: 1466742088550.jpg (600x756, 81K)

>smartphone version has it's own problems

Fixed party members with classes of course. 6 and 7 nailed it down.

The only two I can ever recognize is the XI guy and the dude with the red bandana.
Everyone else looks like generic animu soldiers.
I couldn't tell you what's the difference of your guy or Erdick.

I'm struggling to get through 3 because the game is so fucking boring imo compared to the other games. It's cool to have a completely custom party but I really enjoy the characterizations of my party members/friends as we progress.

Attached: maya group hug.jpg (1668x1712, 654K)

The original NES version did have party dialogue based on slot and sex in some scenes, but not many.

>the only options to get into the DQ series is play the 11 games in order or pick a random popular one
Sounds like simple, lame and bad advice

Oh, it also doesn't work on a lot of platforms and SE won't refund people.

I'm kinda unfamiliar with Dragon Quest tracks, what's the name of the second song that plays in the trailer?

HOOTS MON, DINNAE YA KNOO WHUT A BAIRN IS?

IBritbong shitposters adore the accents and are the sole reason you continue to get more of them.

maybe it's because I'm playing the inferior iOS version

Come up with a better option and make a chart then.

>paying for mobile games that don't even require always online
????

Which trailer? Smash Bros or Dragon Quest XI?

That's the thing, the chart is made for people who isn't into the series already so anyone who reads it isn't supposed to be able to come up with something better
Your effort is still appreciated tho

DQ5 got cucked by a horse.

i loved all of them, fuck it

to put their agenda of cute curry wifes in the spotlight

So what are all the """official""" names for each of the DQ heroes anyway? I see a lot of people call IV Solo and I didn't know any piece of media ever called him that. I've been a DQ fan for a long time but I never really bothered with looking up names, I've ever only called them Enix, or some kind of word related to their number.

Exactly. People ask for opinions because they have no experience with the series. If they don't take the advice then their only other option is to just pick a game at random anyway.

The chart is just the two most common suggestions. DQV and VIII are the most common recommendations in threads already. So if I didn't make the chart, people would get the same advice. I just added DQXI because I've played it and it is very friendly to new players. Plus, it leads into Dragon Quest I-III in story.

Attached: 1528779474781.jpg (1676x1875, 3.02M)

There isn't any official names. Only names used in manga/anime spin offs or Japanese manuals. To my knowledge, Yuji Horii hasn't said any of them are canon.

In trailers and videos, they just use the number of the game as the "official" name.

Thats why I added all the """""""""". I don't care if they're canon or not. I just want named that have been used in various pieces of media.

Smash Bros

Adventure, orchestra version of dq3 overworld

Some of them come from manga adaptations or other disparate sources, it tends to vary since Squeenix isn't big on the MCs being more than a self-insert for the player for this ffranchise. V's hero was called Abel in an audio drama but his default name is usually Madason, as in Mada's son. Loto/Roto's the MC of III, VIII's hero is just called Eight.

>DQXI leads to DQI-II-III
How so? I only played the beginning of DQIX years ago and Builders demo for a few dozens hours a year ago but I think I will buy XI because I miss playing a nice but no overcomplicated rpg and Pokemon just gave me the perfect reason to not buy their new game but I thought it was a separated story

>there isn't any official names, only names used in official products
I think you are confusing official with canon

11 is a book that Roto is reading before setting out on his journey. It's also the story of how the title "Erdrick" is born, with 11 being the first one to get it, together with all the regalia

>To my knowledge, Yuji Horii hasn't said any of them are canon.
People really need to learn 2 reed.

You learn to read, using both terms doesn't excuse your for pretending both have the same meaning. Manga, anime, spin offs and manuals are official products so they have official names, period. Your entire post should have been that Horii says no name is canon, no more no less

What about 7? None of you mentioned 7.

7's a standalone and is pretty divisive. Some people love it, others hate it. It's the longest game in the series, even in the 3DS version which has numerous features to speed it up.

7 is an acquired taste because it's very long to actually get into and it's a little bit different from a standard jrpg. Still good.

Attached: 1541003138664.jpg (759x660, 285K)

Thanks, its a great track but the fact that both songs used in the Smash trailer are pre-existing compositions i'm now worried that DQ will fall into the same boat as FF when it comes to Smash representation.

I have no idea what an Erdrick is (I thought it was DQ III's protag name), nor who is Roto or what's the regalia but I guess the idea is that it's a legend that acts as prequel of the first three games?

>Manga, anime, spin offs and manuals are official products so they have official names, period.
That's not how it works, dumbass. Yuji Horii never said those names are official. It's the same junk as how you can have a million Star Wars books, but Lucas never said any of it was canon. And, oh look, that's the exact point I made when I said canon the first time! Amazing how that works...

But you'll just ignore all my points and reply with angry greentext deflection. Because you're the same guy who's been doing this for two days.

Erdrick was the western name for Loto/Roto. Same character, different name.

Man 7 is pretty enjoyable and is super fu-

>Manga, anime, spin offs and manuals are official products so they have official names, period.
That's not how it works.

It's also just a title given to the hero of legend. And not his name. His name is Whatever you put in.

>That's not how it works, dumbass
It literally is. If it's a name that appears in an official product it's an official name, no room for discussion.

>Yuji Horii never said those names are official. It's the same junk as how you can have a million Star Wars books, but Lucas never said any of it was canon
Thanks for proving me right, you are a retard that thinks official means canon. Every licensed product is official, EVERY SINGLE ONE, even Fire Emblem's gacha shit is official, it literally can't be official.
official =/= canon

>Because you're the same guy who's been doing this for two days
It's literally my first DQ thread, I usually only get into Smash and Zelda threads but okay, it's not like it matters, you can pretend I'm another guy and you will still be a retard that can't tell the difference between official and canon

Thank you very much fellow cute boy lover, it was actually a lot of help! I’ll try looking for the V, VII, and VIII remakes/ports on their respective handheld, and maybe get the PS4 version of the Musou since the Switch version is Japanese-only in language. I can think about the mobile versions of I-IV, or just emulate them if I can find them.

>official titles used in merchandising and in the game to refer to the character = canon names established in official source material or spinoffs
imagine being this ESL

I absolutely loved that twist. That game is the best jrpg I've played

the blonde dude from 7 looks like he's either the biggest asshole ever or the biggest bro ever

Attached: 7844568.png (229x358, 110K)

I fucking loved the difficulty curve of that. 7's just infused with a sense of helplessness and despair throughout, and nowhere is that stronger than Alltrades. No magic so you're hoarding herbs like a miser and shitting your pants if your health gets to low because you've no way of reviving if a part member dies. The closest thing to a hero in that arc is the thuggish gang leader who goes around killing anyone desperate and stupid enough to pick up the demonic soul eating sword and just start murdering innocent people.

well you're not far off

>o-official stuff isn't official, retard!
You are not even trying anymore, this is sad

>official titles used in merchandising and in the game to refer to the character = canon names established in official source material or spinoffs
Said who, retard? You just did it again, you keep pretending official = canon when I'm saying the opposite. Official names are official, period, the name can't be canon if they aren't aproved by the author but they are still official because it's part of the official product so your statement of "there isn't any official names" is factually and absolutely wrong
Why are you so buttblasted about this? Do you think every official product must be sacred and canon? Because then you are just delusional

the party members are more iconic that the MC

He's both.

7 to me is kinda like classic One Piece. You're just going around sailing n shit. I like the whole islands being mysterious and unlocking, how each island has its own perils. I think I just like that kind of setting.

This is the best romanceable character in the entire Dragon Quest franchise

This is not up for debate.

Dragon Chads

You are literally too stupid to understand how the world works so just shut up and off yourself.
All that's canon is obviously official, but not everything official is canon, get this in your brain before shitposting, okay? DQ protags have several official names even if no one is canon, that's all

It should also be known that 7 is by far the most depressing and JUST game in the series based on what happens across the game.

Attached: 1559438451417.png (1200x1830, 1.54M)

The concept of a slime viewing itself as not only human, but as a potential lover, is kinda Hot. and depressing...

it's not so depressing when you think that gemma is also a monster

Attached: darkspawn.jpg (2064x1026, 628K)

I liked every day being a new RPG campaign on each island but it went on way too fucking long and the ending fumbles a few things. The revelation about the hero's true parentage doesn't amount to much other than a new method of transport and there's way too many islands absent from the epilogue, probably because if they put them all in it would last five hours.

7 was so long I actually got fatigued which is rare for me with a game, after I beat the second post-game dungeon I just put it down and never went back, and I still wanted to master more of the monster classes.

>You are literally too stupid to understand how the world works so just shut up and off yourself.
Oh, the irony.

>get this in your brain before shitposting, okay?
You're the one shitposting. You've turned a benign comment that was FACTUALLY CORRECT into an argument of what is official or not. All to save face for you yelling at someone and being proven wrong.

>DQ protags have several official names even if no one is canon, that's all
HAHAHAHA So...fucking....STUPID!

Attached: 1500457811699.jpg (1440x2047, 354K)

Smashing Nimzo and Rapthorne's faces in is extremely satisfying.

Every arc in the past, someone dies, has an unrequited love, fails to meet their potential...or all three at the same time. This just starts weighing you down with regret. You want someone to have a happy ending. You finally see a happy ending with the winged people in the wind village and Keifer. But even those happy endings are bitter-sweet, as you don't learn about it until you travel through time. It's like the game is trying to see how long you can go before getting depressed.

Attached: 1343487224115.jpg (700x501, 106K)

Is DQ7 worth sitting through? I have a little over 10 hours in it and I haven't played it in about a month.

i even felt bad for Cayenne and Dill even though they're two shitheads

>the village under constant assault from terminators with a bodycount of hundreds dead
>the follow up where the inventor guy's corpse is still attended to by his now sentient robo maid, who shuts down herself a couple of islands after you save her

>the one village you have to time travel to save three times, where if you fuck up the last time it's gone permanently in the present
>the soap opera town where you come back decades later and everything that happened to the love triangle is super depressing

That was so fucking nuts I went crazy trying to beat that end boss.
Then I realized that the sages stone isnt a consumable item and can be used over and over and that was pretty necessary to know to win.

So long as you're prepared to put in another 90 hours to see the end, yes. But there's a big inequality gap between each island, some are way better than others.

first friend madason ever had

Attached: first contact.png (631x455, 73K)

That village has the potential for the most sad and fucked up string of events in an RPG. Mass murder? Screw that. This village has a four way love plot where everyone loses, an abused maid with Stockholm syndrome, a guy dies because no one will help him, a girls simple dreams are crushed and then they all get turned to stone. Yuji Horii, what happened to you? And following this game, you made probably you made a game with the total opposite tone.

Attached: 1405226834364.jpg (500x521, 262K)

vegeta bro what are u doin lmaoooo

I want to love you Bianca, I really do. But Nera talks to me about more than the single time we met on a ship when we were six years old, and Deborah has topics of conversation other than the time I spent the entire night playing the whack a mole machine in her bedroom the night before I was meant to marry her sister.

WASN'T THE ONLY GAME OF WHACK A MOLE I PLAYED IN HER BEDROOM THAT NIGHT, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'

And that's the fault of the horrid localization. Bianca has no accent in the original Japanese and she's the most popular character in all of DQ over there. But in the west, she's one of the most hated. Just shows you how much on an impact a "small" change can do.

Attached: 1364009672515.jpg (400x571, 196K)

she's still a terrible character, regardless of accent

Good thing they're all made for the most casual of casual Japanese normies, then.

Attached: yesand.png (201x201, 24K)

How do you figure? She gets the most development and has all the best attributes of the other two girls.

she's just so bland desu

>best genetics for your kids
>best stats for an end game party member, fucking worthless damage-let mage cunts get out

>only girl apart from Bianca who cares enough about the hero to talk to him the night before he gets married
>confidently offers herself for marriage knowing she's the best, shrugs off rejection when you choose her shitty sister or cockney peasant, your loss
>choosing her saves her from a life of being cool wine aunt, a fate worse than death
>other disloyal hoes are perfectly happy with other husbands they settle for, she was literally made for only you
>forces you to sleep on the floor on your wedding night, still rides you raw cowgirl style on the fucking ground till you can't walk in the morning
>stars in the least horse cuck doujins

Okay so I buy DQ XI S (when is it getting released anyway?) and I like it, what other DQs would you recommend me (besides I, II and III)?

So there's obviously a lot we can theorize about why V hero didn't make it but has Sakurai said anything about it?

You're a lucky bastard, already got the two most expensive ones, VI and IX.
For the original DS, you're missing IV and V. IV on DS lacks the mobile version's party chat but it's still the second best release (and I honestly prefer playing on a DS to a phone)
There is also the Rocket Slime games, and 3DS has remakes of VII and VIII.
And on Switch you should get the Builders games
I wish Squenix would've ported 1-3 to DS tho

Attached: CvvQiypXgAQ3pcj.jpg (540x664, 69K)

Saddest one was that priest with amnesia who didn't remember how he ended up in the village, who died protecting you and some kids in the village from the monsters attacking the village
Then you go to another island further back in time and find out he was a priest there that sacrificed himself and became a monster so the villagers wouldnt get hurt and then banished himself so the villagers wouldn't have to face him after they tortured him when they thought he was a monster
I'm beginning to tear up just remembering it now

Attached: 1530850772447.jpg (640x800, 193K)

time to replay Dragon Quest V and marry best wife again, thanks user

A few episodes got subbed by OverTime, then they ditched it. There's another sub but it's Duwang tier. I'm mad about it and maybe someday I'll commission a sub or something.

Attached: 60027418_p0.jpg (2480x3508, 2.19M)

Oh, didn't see Vita and PS4.
PS4 has the Builders titles, as well as 1-3 (Japanese and Digital only), Heroes 1 and 2 (heard they were coming to Switch though) and XI.
3DS also has a version of XI with exclusive content but it is Japanese only, so good luck learning.
Vita only has Builders. Builders 1 certainly feels like a Vita game, and word of advice, save data does not transfer between Vita and PS4 or between Demo and the main game.

I don't mind the accent so much as she ONLY talks about the fucking ghost mansion. Gets really tiring that that's all your relationship boils down to when you've known her forever. Not to mention they guilt trip you into marrying her in the original game by killing off her sick dad if you choose Nera. She easily has the best wedding ceremony though, I'll give her that.

I think Sakurai writes Famitsu articles from time to time. It'll be a few weeks before he says anything, unless he does an interview soon.

>so bland
>tomboy with a heart of gold who talks more than the other two girls
You just don't like her personality. That doesn't make her a bad character.

I would say play all the games. They're all good. Just some are great and some are amazing. Here's a list with more information.

Attached: 1234826988275.jpg (800x632, 137K)

I started with 4 so I'm really fond of that, even without party chat it has some really fun story stuff like Torneko's chapter. 5's great like everyone says, 8's the closest experience you'll get to playing 11 and it's my favorite game in the series so I recommend that one very highly.

debora already claimed madason/vice versa long ago

Attached: 1555238441424.jpg (553x600, 87K)

She talks about lots of other stuff than when you were kids. She talks basically about whatever is relevant to the story. If you're not married to her yet, she talks a lot about the past and her dad. If you did marry her, she talks a lot about having kids and wanting to see your kingdom. After he kidnapping, she talks the most about her kids and avenging your mom.

Yeah but I'm not playing all the games, I don't feel like playing so old games (at least for now) that's why I said no I-II-III, what other DQ would you recommend me after having fun with XI? Let's say only one or two titles (even if they aren't that popular)

Dragon Quest V and VIII will probably be what you prefer if you like XI. And don't be surprised if you get hooked and end up playing more than just two of them.

The problem is once you exhaust all the story related party chat the generic ones always bring up the fucking ghost mansion one time out of four.

Nice puffy vagina

Because DQ5 hero gets cucked by a horse

Attached: meant to be loved, treasured and protected.png (633x470, 74K)

Nice using the DQ Monster’s Joker Rep as a mix of PAC-man, Ice climbers, and Pokémon trainer
Missed opportunity

Pokefags would just say they're ripping off their franchise. I'd have loved Slime/Chimera/Golem. If they picked Terry for the Monster Trainer Japs would have gone apeshit for it, you could argue the Monsters games are more relevant to Nintendo than the mainline games.

One last question, can I play DQ III without playing DQ I and II?

yes you can

Yeah, it's a prequel and this franchise isn't exactly big on continuity. The only thing you're missing out on is the gameplay evolving, if you want to go back and play the originals they'll feel more archaic in comparison since III laid down a lot of the stuff in these games in stone.

This should have been the first post

Yes, but you'll lose some of the impact in the ending.

Attached: 1439135411683.jpg (815x1000, 193K)

I really want to do a Debora run but the game feels wrong if I don't take Bianca.

This.

the game feels wrong if you don't pick Debora

that's weird because I feel fucking horrible if I don't pick Debora

Attached: 1541471664554.jpg (451x304, 131K)

At least in the remake she doesn't live as an unloved spinster with a dead father. Look at it this way, you don't want Deborah to die alone as an unloved Christmas Cake, preying on defenseless monsters and nubile young shotas like your son, do you?

VI had a pretty cute couple.

Attached: scan00101.jpg (1109x1600, 964K)

I might be remembering wrong, but didn't they add a 3rd Marriage option in the remake of DQV?
