Its a good game, but a bad metroid game

good, because metroid is repetitively boring after the first few minutes

It's a mediocre game with lavish presentation.

It's okay, but later entries improved on the formula substantially.

Sotn is great. It isnt particularly challenging but it is fun and the atmosphere is fantastic.

i never played it but everyone i know who did worships it

good music and aesthetics, too easy and the level design isn't very good, far too linear and horizontal and the flipped castle is a gimmick that kills replayability once you've experienced it once

Yes. It is very flawed, but it's still a lot of fun and like said, the presentation is terrific. It's gorgeous and it sounds very nice. I love the game, but I feel that Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin are superior.

Aria of Sorrow is better

The worst Castlekino

But good Castleludo

Expect 100 useless items and weapons. As well as dead ends that lead to these items

No. It gets a pass because it's one of the first games of its time. But every single Igavania that came out after it is better. I replayed it recently so its flaws are fresh in my memory.

>Several one way passes
>Have to go through that one hallway in the Marble gallery at least 3 times
>Many rooms are just filled with enemies and nothing interesting
>Bosses are too easy in general ranging from being too easy to stun, easy to dodge attacks, low damage output or all of the above
>Speaking of easy, it's ridiculously easy for Alucard to become OP just playing normally, stat scaling is ridiculous and it's not uncommon to take 1 damage from bosses just playing normally and using equipment you've found
>Backtracking is a staple, but there's far too much of it here
>Reverse castle is a straight up dumpster fire that brings the whole game down in my mind
>A grand total of 3 new songs play in the reverse castle, only one of them is good
>Traversing the reverse castle REQUIRES bat form as a default, shifting back and forth slows the game down

These are only the negatives, people have already talked about the good like the graphics and most of the music.

I wouldn't say that it's worse than EVERY single Igavania after it but it's definitely not as good as a lot of later ones.

I'm actually playing all them for the first time. But I started with the DS ones and sort of moved backwards. Currently going through HoD (I want to kill myself) and only Symphony is left after that.. That will be interesting.

Aria is far too short.

I’m playing through it now and it’s been good so far. Aria and Portrait improve on the formula like other anons have said.

I'm kind of glad to see that portrait started getting recognized by more anons. It seemed for years that not many really felt strongly about it but I always thought it was a terrific game. I even felt that it somehow pulled off the Saturday morning anime look better than Dawn did, not sure why.

Inverted castle should've been cut off or replaced by smaller unique location. It's existence really keeps the game from being perfect.

What's wrong with HoD?

Not him but it's super goddamned boring. Like so boring that it's way more boring than the yawningly easy SotN. The orchestration of the music sounds like complete ass too. I enjoyed the boss rush as Simon though.

Portrait was underrated for a while, but it is nice to see it getting love now. The final boss fight in it is easily the best in the series.

Best Castlevania coming through don't even @ me nerds

The presentation is godly, but as an actual game that has a lot of combat it's really fucking boring.

It's really sad because the movement and animations are by far the best. None of the other games even got as close.

What about Circle of the Moon? For me that one seems the worst, but I haven't played HoD yet.

I mostly enjoy the combat in SOTN as long as I'm not abusing broken shit like the Shield Rod desu.

It's mostly the bosses that are way too easy to be in a Castlevania game and are very disappointing. Aria perfected the formula for me.

Circle of the Moon is certainly lower down the list overall but it's at least not boring.

No challenging sequences or fights, frustrating to navigate, represents everything that I hate about the genre to me which is aimlessly wandering around a huge map, and trying random things just in order for something to randomly click and let you progress. And when that happens, it's not really satifying because what awaits you is just more samey rooms and terrible bosses.

It's a top tier video game, It has good exploration, rewards for exploration, atmosphere, and music. Those are the primary drivers of this game. If you are insistent that it needs to be more than that then you won't like it.

Circle of the Moon is for true patricians.

Warms mAh soul

God bless you this is hilarious

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CREAKING SKULL MEME AHHHH

How did I fail it? I beat the game and think it's objectively flawed to the point where I would recommend any other igavania besides HoD before it.

Yes, it's great, just dont use the Crissaegrim or the Alucard Shield + Shield Rod combo. Also, dont grind.
