Pokemon and Digimon are both shit. But yeah, Pokemon is worse at the moment.
I mean that dev team has probably more experienced staff, while Gamefreak seems more like an semi indie studio in comparison. Quite unfortunately, Nintendo should support them more and get more involved in the development itself to ensure quality and also cut out brand damaging elements like the poor pokemon tumblr design aesthetic.
Having at least the trainers in a similar style as OP's pic, would make the whole franchise skyrocket once more. Now would have been a great opportunity to change the artists and rework the designs since it's only the new dex, and a new system entirely.
Afterwards it would be harder to change models and the aesthetic of the world itself with each new sequel, since it would force them to create another nupokemon world as to not make the different styles clash with each other.
