There's that interview with Bluepoint though where they said any dev worth their salt only needs a copy of the game itself and they can reverse engineer the rest. That's what they did with their remasters.

FMV cutscenes is why we don't have a proper remaster of FF8 and why the ones in the hd version they showed at E3 are pixelated. You can't really redo them from scratches without modifying everything.
