You mean start with 2016 and then go back to Doom 1 and 2? Doesn't matter too much since they end up playing very differently. I'd urge you to play the first two Dooms at least once at some point though, especially since you can do so for free with ease.

I just kind of like how the monsters look and how you can shoot them and what not. But if I do enjoy it, maybe I'll try out the originals. I'm not really hardcore and the original games seemed quite hardcore with conservation of ammo, grouping, dodging or whatever. I just kind of want to shoot shit that looks really cool. Yes. The games are all part of one universe (including Wolfenstein, Quake and Commander Keen as well) but DOOM 2016 acts like a soft reboot to the franchise. You will understand some things more clearly if you play Doom 1, Doom 2, Master Levels, Final Doom, Doom 64, No Rest for Living and Doom 3 before, but you won't get lost starting from Doom 2016
