It is weird how the two biggest Nintendo characters have movesets so bland and soulless compared to literal whos. I grew up with Donkey Kong country games and Nintendo 64 but I never played Banjo as a kid. The closest would be Diddy Kong Racing but I never played as Banjo.

Since I have no strong nostalgia for him or his games I can't feel the same feelings towards him. I tried Banjo Kazooie later in life but I didn't enjoy it that much. That they are both from rare is no big deal for me.

Don't get me wrong I have never been against Banjo and I'm happy for his fans.

Yeah I getcha, I'm in a similar position. I also grew up with DKC and it's one of my favorite franchises to this day, but I also never played Banjo.
However I do hold a huge amount of respect for the game and how they influenced the genre, and I plan to play them eventually. Ever since K. Rool, my most wanted, was unveiled I would argue that Banjo was the last character who I felt truly deserved a spot. And funny enough, seeing him confirmed hyped me up almost as much as when K. Rool was confirmed.

It's not that they think the same way, if a character gets memed enough people start supporting it because they're simple. You can tell when they say thinks to the effect of Doomguy being likely. He's not likely, he's rad.

This is literally me. I thought I was alone in wanting him since Sm4sh's ballot, but after the "leak" said he'd be in Ultimate, I saw I wasn't alone in wanting the best FPS protagonist of all time to be in Smash. It's fucking awesome.

Yeah and it's absolute shit. Seeing his moveset in that game is what got me worried and made me start to dislike him as a choice. I want the Final Fantasy equivalent of the Dragon Quest heroes. Cloud is easily FF's most iconic protagonist, but I want "Warrior of Light" or whatever as a character, with Terra, Bartz, and Cecil as alts. Normals are easy to make happen from there.

I don't see why Spring Man is a "never ever". The only reason he didn't get into Ultimate is because ARMS came too late.

I do think his chances depend on there being an ARMS 2, but considering the first game was successful, especially for a new fighting game IP, I don't see why that wouldn't happen at some point.

I'm expecting one more cartoony character and one more 'realistic' human. Dante would be my pick for the latter. I can't really imagine where they would be pulled from in terms of eras.

With the western-only rule officially broken, and my dream pick officially in, I'm open to having an Indie rep.

Though I'm not sure who exactly would deserve to be the face of it.

This. I first I only wanted Dark Samus and I got her. then I had false hope for Skull Kid, my number one never ever, and I was disapointed but only because I allowed myself to believe in him while it made no sense.
I didnt allow myself the same mistake for Banjo, and yet here he is.

I also have some random picks like Ama, Artorias, Leon/Jill or Edea from Bravely, but it's all bonus at this point. The last 2 char can be from fucking Fire Emblem for all I care, Banjo and Dark Samus are in and I'll never stop playing this game.

Bandana Dee, as the floaty lightweight. Not particularly fast. Heavier emphasis on his strings.
And Anna for the middle ground. Swifter, primarily using a spear supplimented with a bow (her Apotheosis and Fates/Warriors selves). Plays up the atheletic/anime bullshit with polearms.
