MM and BotW 2 might both be direct sequels but they're very different conceptually

MM reused the OoT engine and most of it's assets because it was efficient. The whole game needed to be done in like a year. The important thing is that they used those assets to tell a different story. The game has a different setting and it's events don't really concern OoT's at all.

BotW 2 on the other hand is a sequel because they wanted to make a sequel to BotW. It's not reusing the BotW engine and assets because it's quicker, considering the game is likely going to take as long as the average Zelda game, they're doing it because they want to continue the story of Link and Zelda in the world of post-Calamity Ganon
