The demons used to put those up all over the place to screw with him. There was a room with several likenesses of Commander Keen impaled on stakes. The real Dadmiral is probably at home with some grandkids we've never seen before.

It seems like the UAC somehow discovered Hell and intentionally went there first, then operated with extremely strict protocol regarding opening portals to Hell and bringing stuff through (at least until Olivia did her thing). If it was the same reality Doomguy came from then there surely would have been some reference somewhere to Phobos and Earth getting skullfucked by a massive tide of demons, but exposure to Hell seems to be the sole preserve of the UAC on Mars and Hayden gets all the credit for it.

IIRC Hell is also explicitly described as being connected to many different dimensions in reference to the whole Night Sentinels thing, which definitely supports this Earth being different to Doomguy's Earth.
