It'll probably be somewhere in the middle and be okay fun to past the time while not living up to the impossible legacy of a good game built up over a decade of nothing and false promises.
What was wrong with DOS2? I really enjoyed it.
It SHOULD be a GOOD wife game! Give me Larian wife!
>a great rpg or the usual Larian garbage
What's the difference?
>that face
I'm sure Yea Forums will find a text box of a romance scene or something vaguely left-leaning and they're gonna spam it for months
I genuinely don't think I've seen a bigger autist on this board than you, and that's really saying something
You want OTHER Larian wife! I give you cute GIRAFFE wife!
It’s an amazing game, these are just contrarian spergs
fuck offfffff
No!
atleast get a trip so i don't have to see your fucking posts every rpg thread. You'll have less people telling you to fuck off too.
the turned based 1,2 system that played like a retarded version of chess
the lazy stats system of just a +5% increase to a specific damage type
the horrible "funny" british accent
I do NOT want trip they ARE bad!
Was BG2 really that good or is it just rose-tinted nostalgia goggles?
R.I.P Larian
those are retarded reasons
even though i liked it the only thing that upset me was the different shields for different types of damage
I WILL take THAT as a compliment user! May YOUR nights BE warm AND filled with sex from YOUR wifes!
brainlets.
BG2 IS in actuality a MIX of good AND bad! IT really FEELS like a GREAT adventure with WIFE Jaheira compared to OTHER modern RPGS!
I think it'll be shit but it won't be because of Larian.
I agree WITH other Valerie user! (I do! I do!)
I don't understand RTWP autists. RTWP was always shit, you played those games in spite of shitty combat.
And actual tabletop games and D&D is turn based, so why the fuck do these autists demand RTWP?
That IS true OTHER Valerie user! Jaheira IS a GOOD wife! Give sequel Jaheira!
DnD is only turn based because of the limitations of tabletop.
RTWP makes a more realistic and strategic world without having to rely on insanely ugly grids or arbitrary turns.
Bit of both. The Gold Box games were arguably better Dungeon & Dragons games, while BG2 was the better dungeon crawler. What most players actually forget is that it was never an RPG and I highly doubt that the new one will be.
>hating turn-based
I bet you're one of the faggots who actually WANTS RTwP so he can go through the game faster.
Fuck off ADD fag.
>Larian is already attempting to fix what was never broken in Baldur's Gate
Did these faggots forget about Beamdog.
Please. I'm begging you. Have sex.
It will be bad, Larian hasn't made a good game yet.
Pathfinder Kingmaker will probably still be better.
This. Many people have said it before, but it's a stupid system. I do hope they got feedback on it, since they're known to listen to the fans. However, the majority of 'fans' is retarded and will probably suck their dick for that system, making them think it was a good idea.
Owlcat IS making ANOTHER game! Give me A wife to SURPASS Valerie!
>I don’t like the narrator
>ITS FUCKING TRASH!!!!!!
lmao
Test
Wait, Larian actually said they will do it turn-based? Absolute madlads. That alone would infinitely increase the quality of the game. I never understood RTWP faggots. It's literally the worst of both worlds.
valerie hates blind compliments and idle affectionism.
This is like the only thing you learn about her.
The fact Kingmaker has RTWP and BG3 will have turn-based says you're wrong.
I love her! She IS cute!
its real time.
Friendly reminder to filter this tranny with
/^[^>].*[A-Z]{2,} ([A-Z']?[a-zI']+ )+[A-Z]{2,}( (\w+|'))*\!\)?/m
/\! [A-Z]((\w|'|\d)* )*\w*\!\)?$/
/\((.*\!) ?\1\)/
/^(>>\d{5,10}\n)*.*[A-Z]{2,}.*\!$/
Well so far larian has made enjoyable games in my book, so it might be.
God bless this stupid fucking autist
the duality of Yea Forums
newfag
>turn-based
Okay, I personally like TB more than RTwP, but Baldur's Gate has always been RTwP. Why the fuck would you change that? There are games that need to be TB, while others should be RTwP. Baldur's Gate is the latter and should stay that way, otherwise it's just not BG.
Aside from that, Kingmaker is the most faithful adaptation of PnP rules into a CRPG to date and I seriously doubt BG3 will do better.
Because rtwp is garbage
yeah well argued you fucking moron.
I dont think larian is garbage
I do think 5e is garbage though so I wont touch this bullshit. 2e or 3e are the only acceptable ways to make the game
>Kingmaker is the most faithful adaptation of PnP rules into a CRPG to date
Both ToEE and Shadowrun SegaCD are more faithful.
But Kingmaker is shit, less than 6% of owners actually completed it.
It's better than turn based in many ways
>way faster
>more freedom and thus more tactical
>characters waiting for others to take turns looks stupid and is unrealistic
>actual influence on enemy instead of waiting for them to finish their turns
I guess there was just too much content then :^)
>usual Larian garbage
Yeah, you can fuck right off.
I will SURPASS Old Sycamore!
Because it's really fucking huge and people simply burn out
All the characters seem off in some way for one, but I can't put my finger around why. They just seem unrealistic and non human.
Also the game gives you the illusion of freedom, but the lack of classes and alignments makes builds and playthroughs all samey and boring.
Plus you literally choose most endings like in ME3.
id say builds are more diverse for that though.
except when compared to Kingmaker, but pathfinder class variety is cheating.
>Disliking all art, no matter how complex.
>Disliking certain compliments
>Potentially disliking beauty.
I guess she tries to be polite, but seems to have this air of self considered superiority about it, she likes good choices I guess. Thus me being a Neutral Good character sort of can get along with her. But honestly, if I had to pick between hanging out with sad dwarf that can't craft or her, I'd probably hang out with the dwarf.
44% of players burnt out by the second chapter? Yeah, sounds like a shit game.
RTWP is pretty much the same as turn based, with the difference that you can choose when to take your "turn" and then everything you did on your "turn" happens simultaneously with whatever the enemy is doing.
This. D&D died when 4e was released.
But she already has an infernal husband, user
Then why are people upset?
It has mostly positive on Steam though
My general problem with RTwP is how much of a jumbled clusterfuck it can be watching and taking into account damages and penalties. I much prefer TB so I can think through things and determine best courses of action.
Ideally, you have both options so you can play how you prefer.
Lohse was based. I liked her a lot.
she was a dumbass though who made weak excuses for her behavior.
most people being casuals is not news. similar statistics exist for other rpg's, even action rpg's like kingdom of amalur/oblivion/etc. plus kingmaker is a very long game so that's a factor too.
I expect it will be good. They're drawing from excellent source material and that studio has made a few good games in the past despite what typical predictable Yea Forums contrarians like to say.
Did YOU romance Valerie! She IS good! You SHOULD romance her!
RTwP is shit, that's why. It was the worst thing about BG.
>way faster
Which isn't a good thing, since it sacrifices depth
>more freedom and thus more tactical
what kind of retarded argument is this? How does RTWP offer more freedom than turn-based?
>characters waiting for others to take turns looks stupid and is unrealistic
I don't want to play a D&D type game that's realistic. There's a reason D&D itself is turn-based.
>actual influence on enemy instead of waiting for them to finish their turns
again, a stupid argument that literally says nothing. What the fuck do you even mean with an actual influence on enemies?
auto, can you remind me how to get both tiefling girls?
literally the ONLY reason dnd is turn based is because its originally played with physical components. Its not because its the best option, its because it was the only sane option.
I think it'll be the usual great Larian RPG.
I do NOT know user I have NOT romanced tiefling girls! user said you SHOULD romance Kanerah first THEN Kalikke later! You MUST have sex WITH red sister TO get blue sister later! You should NOT sacrifice them TO save child! What! What child!
well i must admit atleast you stayed faithful. Thanks.
I have MANY wife!
w...what does she offer?
I do NOT know WHY you like tiefling girls because they insert their BACK PENIS in your ANUS! BUT you CAN romance tiefling girls BY VISITING them in THEIR house which is NEAR your castle THEN doing their quests AND picking RIGHT dialog choices! You CAN start as soon AS you are MADE baron!
>I don't want to play a D&D type game that's realistic. There's a reason D&D itself is turn-based.
The only reason is human limitations.
I hope it's the usual larian garbage, so i can enjoy it while OP seethes in a corner as i make love to his franchise
What!
It's the only sane option for a game with multiple party members and incredibly deep and complex combat system. You simply cannot have D&D complexity in real time. So you add a pause, great, you still sacrifice a shit ton of complexity. The ONLY advantage is that it's faster. Great, I don't want to rush through combat. That's the fun part. I want to think about it and make optimal strategical decision.
In turnbased, my mage going first means I can soften their party up with a fireball. This is part of my strategy, because I gave my mage huge initiative bonuses. In RTWP, before the fireball is cast the enemy will have converged on my party and the fireball will hit my party members. It's just a convoluted mess. Turn based is the best option if you want to have strategical depth. Real time is the best option if you want a better 'feeling' and cinematic experience.
RTWP is never the best option.
It's literally not though, it's because turn order matters in these games. BG showed us that RTWP isn't the best way for D&D adaptations. Kingmaker is the same. It's mostly just annoying and frustrating, until you reach a point where you just auto-win most fights. There's very limited depth to the actual combat.
but RTWP has delays before you are allowed to perform your first act. Your example still works if you invest in initiative bonuses.
What the plot would be about anyway? The story pretty much ended in Throne of Bhaal.
There's an official WotC book comming out with events taking place before the game
It won't be a continuation. It's just a DnD RPG with a classic game's name attached.
Liked OS2. I'll get this if it has turn based mode
in new 5e adventure path coming out, baldurs gate descends into one of the rings of hell/whatever. Objective is beating some demon queen. Post events probably involves awakening some Mind Flayer hive.
This game is set after that book.
AND HERE I was hoping they could pull something on the level of DAO
Fucking pissed me off how during the show the WotC faggot was pretending that Baldur's Gate series was somehow in any way about the city itself when it was only featured in like 2 chapters of the first game and was completely irrelevant to either Shadows of Amn or ToB.
Way to completely admit you're just banking on the brand recognition. "B-buy our prequel p&p campaign to find out what happened in between the games!" Nothing fucking happened because they have almost nothing in common. Get fucked.
I really hated the boring 'everyone has 4 action points' and the shitty armour system in DoS2, am I a brainlet or do others share this sentiment?
combat in the 2nd game was fucked up, I hope they never make a mistake like that ever again.
Many people hated the armor system and encounters that drag on forever
It WAS bad BUT I did NOT play it! I bought FOR wife!
BG setting continued after ToB in non video game form
Why can't there be a homogeneous marrying of the two options? Is there no way to feasibly have turn based and real time with pause co exist as part of the same combat system?
It IS bad user! Arcanum DID try it BUT it WAS bad! Two BAD systems IN one game!
how do you expect me to bother finishing the game when you find out that you cant romance best girl?
That would require two different encounter designs for all of the game, which Larian can pull of decently with 300 people. Will they though?
I don't like it either, but it's more fun than it looks. I would unironically prefer it if they give everyone 20 action points, but quintuple the cost of every action.
>female warden
>tfw no wynne romance
Combat is 2 was a bit of a mess, even Swen agrees, but they had already put too much work into it to do something different.
at least 4e was its own thing, 5e is just a shitty version of 2 and 3.
but at least its not pathfinder which takes the worst aspect of 3e (the way skill points are allocated favoring int classes) and neuters the cross class skill system which was the only thing keeping it remotely balanced
only a brainlet would think like this, how can you have complex tactical system if itsn't done in real time with you acting and reacting to what is happening at the fly, instead of having to wait for the enemy to hit you over the head first before you get to do anything, turn based is for brainlets who can't follow if they don't get a day and two nights before they do the smallest fucking action
I have a aneaking suspicion that WotC is going to meddle a lot in this project. There is too much money at stake.
Which is a bad thing, because WotC are a bunch of tone-deaf cunts.
Kek those reasons don't make sense, the stats won't be the same here since this is based on 5e, and turn based is the original tabletop game-mode, rtwp was just a shitty attempt that somehow got considered a norm.
I hope it gets abandoned.
Based wifeposter of random capitalization
You guys think there's a chance for modding? it pretty much saved OS2 for me.
I don't even know how you're suppossed to enjoy the game without number bloat fix.
and it made sense to have turn based when you were dealing with something between 4-5 people in the same room and having to wait for the dice to be rolled, but in a computer game its complete and utter shit for brainlet retards
I'd be surprised if they didn't support modding. Swen and Mearls talk like they want this game to be very close to tabletop and its flexibility
>the usual Larian garbage
Give me 60 year old wife!
Have you even played 5? 4 is hot garbage but 5 is just 3 but streamlined. The videogame versions were already basically 5 because everything is done by the engine anyways
I don't know fuckall about engines and 3es or 5gs or whatever. I just want my battle encounters to not feel a crushing slog or a tangled mess. However they need to get there, fine.
I know I'm gonna get hate for this but I hope it's not Rtwp.
I find it too clunky.
Well done, Larian, looking to throw yourself back into obscurity already I see?
>the twitch audience
this is why new games are shit
>5 is just 3 but streamlined
There was nothing to streamline. What they did was dumb the whole system down to ridiculous levels. And that's not even mentioning the steaming shit they took on the class fantasy of the paladin.
Hate to burst your bubble but it's indicative of all audiences. There will be no audience for this dumbass fucking game. Larian and Wizards will have to turn up the hype manufacturing machine to 11 to even remotely meet whatever lunatic sales expectations they thought they can expect.
For me it's how common death seems to be.
The screamers are instant death, poison barrels in the tutorail are instant death (also they killed the player character from the first game with poison fog), piss off some dog and it claws a party member in half in 1 turn, answer a skeleton's questions wrong and instant death.
Also enemies seem to have lots of jumps and teleports while I have to trundle along like an idiot.
Stopped playing in the middle of the graveyard after the boat.
It doesn't sacrifice depth tho, there's more depth to controlling multiple characters at once and everyone acting at the same time than taking turns. That's where the freedom comes from, too.
By "actual influence on enemies" I mean that you can stop them from their actions instead of taking guaranteed hits from them in turn based.
It is sad that most mainstream gamers and streamers have no clue what Baldur's Gate even is. Some of the reactions for the reveal trailer are cringy as fuck.
>OMG, it's so cool! It's King's Landing!
>It's some kind of Cthulhu monster!
>*BG3 logo is revealed* ...I don't know what that is.
Where is my Neverwinter nights 3?
>Will stay in the same genre and keep isometric view
>Dev already made similar games that are above average
>RTwP likely
>Shit writing guaranteed
I don't get why you people are treating this like rape on the same level as Fallout. This is a reach around at worst.
Why the fuck is Dragon Age 2 in there?
In a dumpster where it belongs.
God, no. NWN2 was absolute shit already.
Dragon Age Origins
>NWN2 was absolute shit already
I liked it. Played it trough solo and co-op with my friend.
Hell, it's being made by people that ARE HUGE FANS of Baldur's Gate. Lots of other fanbases have had sequels done by devs that hate the source material like Ninja Theory's DmC Devil May Cry.
At least it will stay isometric and be rtwp, I was expecting turn based at worst.
Or Bethesda with Fallout.
They don't hate it per se, but it's obvious they don't give a fuck about FO1/2 and know little to nothing about the setting. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the devs ever played it and just skimmed the Fallout Bible.
Honestly the best thing about the trailer is getting such a graphic visual on how mindflayer transformation happens. D&D has a lot of cool shit locked in the farther corners of its bestiary and we barely every get detailed explanations or depictions of monster life. Actually you know what fuck it, just give me a D&D monster manual documentary.
>I wouldn't be surprised if none of the devs ever played it and just skimmed the Fallout Bible.
Todd had though.
They seem to be pretty ambitious with the game and what they want to do with it, I'm optimistic.
>>Turn based = equals no buy
>= equals
>shitting on turn based
next level brainlet
I'll get it if it's tun based. Divinity 2 was pretty fun
This image will never not be bizarre.
turn based is for fucking retards who can't comprehend that RTWP is the only form of combat in CRPGs that is engaging and challenging at the same time.
Todd is based man but the kikes on top stole his soul, now he's just an empty vessel
>BG has always been RTwP
>Therefore RTwP is the best combat system for a Crpg
You fucking faggots living in archaic times are fucking irrtating. I'd rather Larian try something completely NEW (neither TB nor RTwP) then stick with a 20 year old flawed system.
i hope they don't make use of their famous humor.
It's too long and the kingdom management minigame is tedious. The game is a giant bore. I'm 84 hours in and I think I haven't even got to the middle part yet.
If you want an honestly good paced CRPG, try out tyranny.
With the amount of pausing you need to do, it might as well be turn based. The only complexity in BG2 is character builds and figuring out what all the spells do.
But he can still bullshit like a champ. He managed to describe Fallout 76 as the best MMO experience you'll get, without technically saying a single lie. That's impressive.
You don't even pause that much, half the time you can just left click shit and watch it die
No, you fucking idiot. I even said that I personally prefer turn-based. My point is that a sequel to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 should stay true to the originals and retain it's RTwP. It's the same reason why Bethesda's Fallout games don't really feel like Fallout, because they lost the turn-based top-down gameplay.
If you want to try something new, make a new franchise, don't take and old one and make it something it's not.
it is a good game, but it has many flaws.
the world is boring and annoying.
not much you can do with classes, very limited battles, and always cursed fire.
i wasn't able to play through it a second time, too boring.
>engaging and challenging
>left click to death
Oh no no no
That first chapter was long, user.
But really, what makes it especially long is that I have no idea what I'm doing with character builds, a bug that's now patched made my cleric not work and thought I could handle "hard mode" which is actually the mode with no handicaps/penalties so there were a few restarts.
Just like in the old days except with more difficulty options.
Interrupts in turn based usually make enemies miss their next turn, so that is simulated in the system as well.
I think the best take on RTWP was DA:Origins. Not overly complicated, but could actually bring death to your team if you don't prep and pause (at times)
the classes are fucking boring. that is one of the biggest problems.
advertise dynamic combat and then you only see cursed fire anyways.
It also had amazing tactics system
tyranny is actually pretty good, but it needs the turn based combat from poe2 (which is also not a bad game).
It was king for a long while, yeah.
Play Kingmaker.
He's saying he doesn't know why you want the Tiefling girls because they use their tails during sex to stimulate your prostate and that makes him uncomfortable.
I did play Kingmaker lmao. I'm the user who said it was boring as fuck
Damn good taste tho
Oh. Gross.
What?
Larian is good, I'm glad they're sticking with RTWP though.
>dig up a cult classic title for a game which is going to have next to nothing in common with the originals, probably in hope of hugging some extra dosh
>suddenly you have to appease both the boomers who would buy the game for nostalgia as long as it's somewhat like the originals and the zoomers who genuinely want the game to be up to modern standards or just want the game to be another TB larian game to fit CURRENT YEAR cRPG formula meta
Oh no?!
They haven't said anything yet about the gameplay
Well beside that they're using 5E as their base.
Talking about Pathfinder, how are the DLCs? Should I get all of them?
It's peak RTwP. Sure the game's got issues, but the combat isn't one of them.
where the fuck do I put these? just in comment filters?
You can live without Varnhold's Lot and the meme dungeon, they're pretty much extra content. The Wildcards is absolutely worth it though.
I was sure I saw a comment about RTWP. If they turn BG turn based I'll be pretty upset. Don't take over a franchise if you're planning to drastically change it.
>kingmaker
>not gross
The game borrowed the recycled areas meme from Skyrim. Literally everywhere you go, you'll only see forests and caves with the same textures from the first one you were in (except for maybe 10% of the other areas).
The kingdom management system was tedious and you'll end up destroying any interest you had on side quests because you had to fucking do a retarded quest to not make your kindom fall into pieces.
Don't get me started with the bland af characters, not a single one peeked my interest and seeks to be interesting only because HURR DURR female tank, female barbarian
I'll be pretty glad if it's turn based
I'll finally be able to use what I know from reading the rules but not playing.
>bnha
Dilate
No, Swen's been very deliberate in not saying anything specific.
After Obsidian's antics, I kinda wonder if BG3 will have both RTwP and TB as options. Nevermind that it'll dilute the combat.
Are you a fan of the series or a bandwagon hopper?
Brainlet here, whats the big difference between Real time and turnbase?
Like Ive played a tonne of Kotor & Pillars 1, but also Xcom & Battle Brothers
Is there a need to fight when you can just make it both like Pillars of Dogshit 2?
real time is real time and turn based has turns
One of those people who bought the originals a while ago but never finished them.
Played the game 2 years back after some user convinced me. Liked the writing but I hated the gameplay. I slogged through both of it since I already invested my time. The writing, characters and story was fine. The turn based in OS was much more fun to me. So yea a mix of those two would be great
I have to drag down others' opinions to validate my own.
>absolute shit
Sure you mean the main campaign, because Mask of the Betrayer is one of the best rpg narratives in a long time.
The combat was also pretty fun too.
Even Wildcards isn't what I'd call worth it unless you really want to play a Tiefling or fuck those Tiefling girls.
Everything points towards soulless husk with a brandname:
>executive and publisher meddling into what larian does
>forcing Larian to adapt 5E as close as possible
>forcing Larian to make it post-Bhaal-Resurrection in 5e based on the shitty Baldurs Gate novels and not the game
>Hasbro telling people that to understand the plot of the game they have play the prequel-Tie in D&D tabletop adventure
Baldurs Gate 3 is essentially a glorified D&D ad.
And as if this wasn't enough this the setting they are basing it on:
>Basically everything you saw in that Trailer is 100 years later after BG1+2
>Remember all the NPCs you liked from the earlier games? Not only are they already dead in this setting most of them never existed because Wizards/Hasbro essentially ret-conned most the stuff from the earlier 2 games
>Minsc was just a crazy hobo
>Imoen was a lesbian
>Jaheira was a cheating slut
>both were killed off in ToB
>Khalid gets cucked and dies
>Xan, Montaron and Xzar were killed in BG1
>Saemon Havarian was also just a crazy hobo
>Bodhi was a vampire tavern wench
>Yoshimo was the brother of Tamoko from BG1 and he gets eaten by CHARNAME when he turns into a Slayer.
>CHARNAMEs canonic name is Abdel Adrian and he dies shortl before BG3 happens when he suddenly explodes into Bhaal
>Bhaal is back because MUH NOSTALGIA
Make a screenshot of this, because I aint typing this shit up again.
But there you go, this is how fucking horrible based on what we know about the source material.
Harrim and Jhod are such useless cunts
Fucking zoomers.
Kineticist is busted good, Kaessi is a pretty cool idea for a companion and Kanerah is easily one of the best companions in the game. I'd say it's a good addition.
Larian made 2 bad games. Any other statement is objectively false.
it will be the usual larian garbage, 95 on metacritic and goty
>Is there a need to fight when you can just make it both like Pillars of Dogshit 2?
Pillars just slapped on turn-based when they saw Divinity's sales. It barely even works, half the mechanics are fucked. Dexterity became a joke of a stat and some of the best classes became worthless in it.
Beyond Div and Dragon Commander?
Isometric games were much easier to do back in the day. That is, the first/third person perspective could not give the needed level of detail. Now, its the opposite.
Id rather they did DG3 in style of Divinity 2 ED. I suppose its too much to ask.
What classes/ roles are the Teifling companions?
WotC has spent alot of time in recent years working towards getting the D&D brand out there through physical media and pop-up adventures. It's only logical that video games would be next.
>Teifling
Will it be turn based like DoS? I want a comfy rpg I can play in peace.
Kineticists. They blow shit up and get different utility depending on elements you pick. And I mean they really do blow shit up.
I know nothing about Pathfinder or DnD user, please excuse my ignorance.
>CHARNAMEs canonic name is Abdel Adrian and he dies shortl before BG3 happens when he suddenly explodes into Bhaal
oh I hate this.
I want to play older games I missed (since I didn't own a PC then) around when I play sequels but making anything canon that the player could have done differently always puts me off.
Nice. Are they separate companions, as in both can be fielded?
Usual larian garbage, I don't get what people like about their rpgs. The stories suck and the characters are forgettable. Also there are no rp mechanics in whatsoever. Their games are basically turn based strategy games with a openish world.
Am I supposed to play the original releases and mod those or EE and mod out the additions?
Yes, no, maybe.
Looks like a tranny.
Real time is way better as it is faster. When you want to think of a strategy you simply pause it but when you're fighting the 5th standard group of mobs you just want to kill them and continue.
Because turn based combat is trash. RTWP is fine.
>shitter's first role play post
hard cringe. 0/10. kill yourself, faggot retard.
Oh wow, interesting. I really should go get the Wildcard DLC then. Right now my team is Bow Fighter, Valerie, Noknok, Harrim, Linzi and Octavia, maybe I'll start a new game, any recommendation on who I can boot out of my party?
>When you want to think of a strategy you simply pause it but when you're fighting the 5th standard group of mobs you just want to kill them and continue
But that's an RTwP problem though. Divinity OS2 has like a tiny fraction of the trash mobs an RTwP does.
Well, 75% of those that bought BG2:EE on steam never bothered completing the first dungeon. In regards to BG1:EE, almost 40% played through the tutorial before abandoning it.
Based on that, I wouldn't recommend the EE versions.
>1 cheese awarded for this post
I'd boot Linzi. Harrim and Octavia can handle all your buffing needs and she is kind of an annoying faggot anyway.
Also, I'm pretty sure you don't need to restart so long as you're not in chapter 4 yet... I think.
>non TB rpgs
into the trash it goes
I see. Well I'll be fairly pissed if it's turn based. DOS2 was great, but BG is its own thing.
Well fingers crossed they don't do some dumb shit.
I don't know if that really reflects on EE. Most people these days just don't have the patience for BG. Having said that I thought Tutu was fine.
You just trashed most of the GOATs.
Yea we know the first and only cRPG (if you can call it like this) you have ever played is D:OS2
THATS NOT HOW MIND FLAYERS ARE FUCKING MADE
THEY HAD BETTER EXPLAIN WHY HE'S NOT NEAR THE MOTHER BRAIN
I'm sure it will be an important plot point user. Prolly the same explanation for why they're invading the surface.
As a DM I'm legitimately excited to see how they convert 5e to a video game, especially since my players are fucking cunts that can't read a god damned book so I've never been able to actually play outside of being the dungeon master
How do you get into this dnd and role-play stuff? Do you go to a store or something or do you do it online
user playing Kingmaker for the first time, could I have some help building my character? I'm thinking of a straightforward unga bunga two handed fighter with a heavy armor and a greatsword, do I need anything other than strength and con, and a little dex for the +1 bonus? I don't plan on dumping anything so everything will be a minimum of 10. My only experience with CRPGs is Pillars of Eternity and Obsidian created their own unique stat system for that.
Tabletop Simulator is what I use, I basically just pitched the idea of playing D&D with some of my friends like 5 years ago and then occasionally brought up the idea over and over again over the next two years and eventually I actually got them to all make some characters, show up for a session, and teach them the game because they're lazy cunts.
D&D, especially 5e, is not very hard to learn. As long as you have friends you can play it, you don't need to buy anything really. You can get all the books for free online very easily, you can use free dice rollers online or a virtual tabletop like Tabletop Simulator or Roll20 to actually play.
Zoomers are getting into it now too so its easier than ever to get started and find a group.
If you're genuinely interested in getting into the hobby I'd suggest checking out /tg/ and maybe lurking around in the 5e General and asking a few questions. Just don't act like a faggot from Yea Forums, /tg/ is a nice board that doesn't need the dumbshit we deal with here.
If you're going to make an unga bunga character might as well just drop your intelligence and willpower somewhat so you can further increase/dump it more into class centered attributes, and also it fits roleplay wise. You're knocking your head around to make yourself stupid as fuck, and you're prone to hotheadedness.
wisdom* not willpower.
>I'm thinking of a straightforward unga bunga two handed fighter with a heavy armor and a greatsword, do I need anything other than strength and con, and a little dex for the +1 bonus?
Not really. Con is King for martials imo, and whether you use STR or DEX is up to you, it really depends on which weapons you want to be using. Wisdom is great for passing saves against magic though which is always useful.
Really, minmaxing isn't all that important
Based. DOS1 and DOS2 were a breath of fresh air.
Nice, thanks. Is there any class I should take a level from just for some freebies? I know that bow using characters like a level in vivisectionist for mutagen and sneak attack, and tanks like a level in monk for crane style, what about for a two handed fighter?
Thanks user the problem is I don't have any friends who'd be interested in this except maybe 1 or 2. I'll lurk in /the/ for now
The trick is to pick whatever sounds cool my dude , if you choose anything else you're really doing yourself a disservice
>terrible stat system that plays like fucking WoW is a bad reason
Okay retard
Thaks, I'll go with my two handed fighter then. And yeah, I heard that a fauchard-based fighter is much better, but I'm going with greatswords because I think they are cool.
Allow me to get autistic for a bit regarding BG2:EE. Ignore me if you want. Steamspy reports between 500.000-1.000.000 owners of BG2:EE. If we use achievements the way they are meant to be used (as a method for publishers to collect data on how gamers use their products.), we assume that between 127.500-255.000 actually played through the intro dungeon and of those only 35.500-71.000 completed the base game.
BG1:EE sold the same according to steamspy, probably less in reality, and BG2:EE is widely considered the better game, but more people actually seemed to play BG1:EE, before they probably knew how fucked Beamdog is. Based on this, I think it is safe to assume that those that bought BG2:EE are either insanely stupid, for assuming that BG2:EE actually is better than BG1:EE, or just want to throw away money.
>witcher
>rpg
wtf? The rest are rpgs though
Everything seems to be called an rpg today, as long as it has a character progression system.
I doubt they would ever do the same armor system ever again now that they know it didn't work all that well and ended up punishing players for wanting to split magic and physical damage among party members. Environmental effects had a tendency to spread way, way too rampant and as a result almost every fight would usually end in a vast sea of fire or electrified water/blood. Almost every single fucking fight. I feel like the devs liked their elemental interactions way too much and as a result kind of spoiled it a little bit by not knowing when to stop.
So yeah, game had flaws. After saying that though I'll still say I consider it an amazing game, if only not a perfect one. I do feel like Yea Forums is just a bunch of apes trying their hardest to chimp out at anything they can and divinity 2 is no exception.
both of those were flawed but not bad.
i enjoyed beyond divinity back in the day.
Dragon Commander yeah, the actual gameplay sucks dick.
The character interaction is great tho
I disagree. People who play a series start at 1. People started with 1 hated it so didn't bother with 2. But they bought both at the same time.
That's my bet anyway. EE has some dumb shit, but you don't encounter it immediately so I don't think that's the reason.
No one stole Todds soul, he became a business man, just like George Lucas.
Money will always corrupt creative ambition.
Have german friends.
Germans love fantasy. But only the most generic variety. Also your entire party will consist of dwarves because german nerds worship dwarves as the ideal male image
Achievements were added later to ees
Makes sense, actually. They were released one year apart, but BG1:EE was only really playable one year after release due to bugs, which puts it just around BG2:EE's release date. This was probably planned by Beamdog all along.
a lot of people are told to skip BG1 tho
If this game makes those books canon I will not buy the game. They are universally considered the worst Forgotten Realms books ever made, and that's saying something.
is there any mod that fixes that?
i'm thinking maybe an enemy can only have 1 type of armor either normal or magical
enemies with physical armor will take less armor damage from physical attacks and normal damage from magical and vice versa
>not lanced jack
>not that fag, who’s name I’ve forgot, who avatarfagged as a guy that kept getting jizz shopped onto him every time he posted
>not manlet
>not the elf shitposter
Come on, fren.
Which is why it is strange that more people seem to have played it.
I too want a fight against 5 goblins to take 15 minutes.
I like the dude in love with Garnet.
5E is unironically a great fit for BG3, it's a lot closer to AD&D than virtually anything from 3E on.
People who hate 5E are fucking zoomers.
There's the divine war something overhaul mod. It gets rid of armor system altogether and now characters/enemies just have tweaked resistances instead. I like it more than vanilla but again, not perfect. I really like what they did with the armor system but the mod also does a lot of other things and some of those other things I could do without, but there's no way to select only what you want, you either get the whole package or nothing.
Begine wizards shill
Arguably, BG2: ToB contributed to the epic level bullshit that culminated in 4E, which is a superhero simulator.
5E is much better for low-level stuff.
DUDE COUNTERCULTURE LMAO
the divine war mod just repaces the armor system with the trash will system, that is literally the same thing. enemies have a will bar that ranges from 1-7 and then they're guaranteed CC. it doesn't fix anything just makes the problem worse.
ToEE combat is better than any rtwp abortion, I swear before Allah i'll torch Larian's studios if it's rtwp.
BG had some pretty eye rollingly bad humor too but Larian literally needs a handler to keep them from over doing it.
How is it the same thing? user are you an ape? You can actually have physical and magical in your party or even in the same character and it no longer gimps each other because you don't have 2 different progress bars to work on. Don't get me wrong it has its flaws but to say it's the same thing is to be dumber than an actual animal.
Literally the only people who dislike the armor system in DOS2 are retards who think going full physical is the best way to play
If they just make the game in third person perspective with a proper tactics overview mode should be pretty good imho
Literally the only people who like OS2 are zoomers
That's some quality argument you two are having there.
going full physical or magic is the best way though
splitting the types is like doing x0.5 damage
>outs himself as a newfag
Which is why people agree the armor system was one of the game's flaws. Even those who like the game. Stop replying to bait people.
Brainlet
Most enemies in groups have either low magic armor or low physical, that's why mixed parties work best.
Gross
Pathfinder has the best waifus
Larian gameplay is good and I’m confident the game will be excellent, but larianshills always deny these points
>their writing isn’t good, in fact it’s cringe
>near constant instant death shit, as a result they’ve given you easy ways to revive characters but it just makes death feel like a cheap meaningless thing
>massive focus on their shit OCs nobody cares about in divinity 2 over more content with custom characters, the thing everyone should be playing as in a fucking ROLE PLAYING game
it's faster in turn-based because you don't need to watch animations.
The biggest problem is to find a good DM even it it's to play only official adventure modules
>larian gameplay is good
Wrong.
>usual Larian garbage
t. butthurt Pillars of Eternity Cuck
>wrong
wrong
I hate to break it to you but most games do have death as meaningless. That's not really larian that's the entire industry with a few exceptions like XCOM.
Pic related, me having a great time DMing 3.PF for my friends.
Each turn takes an hour, but thats the price you pay for the best system ever made!
I just don't know what I would do without 10,000 feats, how would I show my friends how smart I am for looking up a build if there weren't 8,000 trap feats that objectively suck ass?
Out of companions which one has the highest charisma in bgs?
How is Witcher not an RPG?
>wrong
>wrong
wrong
>plural
There's only the one.
>The virgin DM and the chad players
Since when do they pop outta people? I don't remember that bit in lore. I thought they lived in Underdark and just ate people they caught.
Isnt Morrowind an approximation of 3E?
>>their writing isn’t good, in fact it’s cringe
I don't think it's good but it isn't cringe or bad eithier. It was mediocore to me
>>near constant instant death shit, as a result they’ve given you easy ways to revive characters but it just makes death feel like a cheap meaningless thing
Meh this is normal in most rpgs. Or maybe I just play too much jrpgs
>>massive focus on their shit OCs nobody cares about in divinity 2 over more content with custom characters, the thing everyone should be playing as in a fucking ROLE PLAYING game
Yea I agree with the fact there needs to be more role-play options it was quite limited. But I do like the OCs as party members.
Keldorn with 18, I think
are those tieflings or succubuses (succubi?)
If you buy a DLC. And even then you can't fuck a best girl, because she's the conservative one.
And DO:S has Sebille.
Semen demons.
>2019
>Still using fx-570MS nigger calculator
anyone as long as you give them a robe of charisma
lmgtfy.com
TL;DR, that is indeed how they reproduce but the process actually takes about a week. They either found a way to accelerate it or its just for trailer
Tieflings. Of devil ancestry. From fantasy Middle East.
Its not hard to find players, you're all replaceable
>Since when do they pop outta people?
They don't, they have to take you down to a brine pool with a giant mother brain in it. They keep dozens of Mind Flayer tadpoles in the brine pool until one has eaten all of the others and proven that it is the strongest. They then take a prisoner and let the tadpole burrow into it, where it takes about a week to transform properly.
Illithid lore is legit pretty cool, D&D monster lore in general is really cool, you should read into it.
>Star Wars Online
I don't know either, maybe it's one or two autists. Now if it was Beamdog, it would be completely justified.
It's probably due to the "reaching in the past for beloved franchise" has already produced so much crap, Baldur's Gate itself was a victim. And also that the franchise didn't really ask for a sequel, they could made a D&D game and called it something else, that they went for "BG sequel!" is a negative sign
>Also enemies seem to have lots of jumps and teleports while I have to trundle along like an idiot.
Scoundrel, Warfare and Huntsman all have readily accessible movement abilities. Plus you get the gloves of teleportation early on.
imagine being this bad at videogames, especially an easy one like DOS2
They did say that its an accelerated process.
>What is concurrent turns
I don't remember exactly how they said it but I interpreted as it could also be accelerated for trailer
Because it's still a immunity stat you whittle down before you can cc
They mentioned something very quickly about it not being normal in the PC games show, so thats at least something.
It definitely stood out to me right away and had me worried that they didn't know their D&D lore at all
>illithids' goal is to bring back from beyond the universe the Betrayer, the PC from NWN2
Would be cool but WotC wouldn't do it
No they meant the process is accelerated and that's one of the issues the player will have to deal with. It's not supposed to be.
>There's a reason D&D itself is turn-based.
Yeah, the reason is there's no other way. How do you make real time combat in a fucking pnp game?
been here since 2009 though, never once used filters, 'cause I'm not a snowflake
but that faggot is really annoying.
>a turn-based game without animation
Are you retarded? If you want to play DnD you can play DnD. It's 2019, there are enough resources to play it online with other people.
What I want is a videogame.
Explain to me the pros and cons for the armor split and why it's great/shit, not from a theoretical standpoint but from a practical one. With some actual examples, not just shit pulled out of your asses. Include which difficulty you played on, retards.
Fuck you, I'll play Dungeons and Dragons videogames if I want to.
Also an Illithid trivia
Aboleths I believe are the oldest race in D&D, they are older than many gods etc and they also share memory with race members and have perfect memory, they never forget anything. They've seen the creation of many races except for only Illithids. As far as they know, Illithids just appeared out of nowhere
Because of this many believe Illithids come from a future where they fucked up really bad and don't actually belong on the universe, yet at least
I played on tactician and it's barely harder than classic if you know what you're doing.
The armor system is good because it keeps you from using unga bunga tactics like pure magical/pure physical and because it removes the rng CC and instant enemy wipes from the first game via ice hail, arrow storm etc.
It makes mixed parties more viable as well.
>videogames
Have fun with your interactive picture books faggot.
Illithids are really cool and I hope we get to play as one
I will, thank you.
Idk how it is in DOS2 or DOS, but the way i would do armor system in any game would be the way damage threshold works in Fallout New Vegas. Have 45 DT and enemy deals 20 dmg? You are not taking any damage. Enemy deals 80 dmg? You take 35 dmg. There is a way to incorporate other things like damage resistance that by % reduces incoming damage after DT calculation. I prefer to keep things simple and effective. Also, for sake of simplicity, just cal DT armor class.
No int dumping in this game I guess.
>Also, for sake of simplicity, just cal DT armor class.
How do you determine if a move hits if "armor class" is suddenly your damage threshold?
Because whittling down a second health bar isn't fun.
Roll based disables/stuns (i.e. enemy has 100 armour, disable ability deals 50 damage = 50% chance to stun) if the damage dealt from the ability did not exceed the armour value would have been much preferable. It also further promotes just dumping everything into one damage type and a very systematic gameplay style of grouping them up with relocation abilities, applying CC damage and then AOE stuns once armour is low enough.
I think armour was a bit easier to understand than DOS1's "[disable] failed" or "immune to [disable]" ad infinitum, but the gameplay cost wasn't really worth it.
>for sake of simplicity, just cal DT armor class.
Have you ever actually played D&D before?
>not ACK
It was a terrible idea that Swen Vincke admitted was a complete failure.
They were little bitches in BG2 as long as you had at least 1 good martial character with decent saving throws and AC, just autoattack them without bothering to pause and don't waste spells (except for skellingtons for instance) because lol immune
An even bigger problem is the initiative not mattering because the game forces rounds to be you>enemy>you>enemy>you>enemy
I wish i did. Never found a group to pnp with.
Yeah until you get a bad roll and lose that character.
It will be a 2019 rpg.
Accuracy and evasion.
Thats what your armor class is you dingus.
When you roll to hit you roll the die associated with the weapon or attack you're using, add your to hit bonus, and the result needs to be higher than the opponent's armor class for the attack to land.
I literally never had a paladin character fail their saving throw
Forgot to add: haste, maybe prebuff too, so you could cut them down faster than they could make enough successful hits or a lucky psi strike. Then it becomes a no-brainer (no pun intended) combat.
Its pretty fucking telling that you only managed whine and be butthurt without refuting any of his facts, resteratranny.
I enjoy your rectal devastation over BTFOing yourself.
I'm happy for you. I didn't bring a paladin in my first run.
I'm not saying they're impossible. Just that a game heavily featuring them will require decent saving throws.
Ok, thats to-hit chance.
What do you call damage calculations then?
Oh, actually, I had a brain fart.
While rolling to hit you always roll a D20 and add your attack modifier.
When you roll for damage on a confirmed hit you just roll whatever the damage die for that weapon is.
Not sure how I got that mixed up
>being this much of an underage casual
You two are telling me completely opposite things, they can't both be true. The game can't both promote mixed parties and pure parties or promote and disincentivize unga bunga tactics. It also sounds like you two might have a preference against and for RNG, respectively.
Does that sound like a practical explanation with actual examples? Why did he and others think it was shit, with some examples?
Really now? That sounds like fucking garbage, making initiative not matter. How does it work, preferably with proof?
Not saying they're impossible, just boring and simple to steamroll, as long as you have good enough defences and can kill them fast enough. Every one of them has good resists and saves, but they are piss easy in melee, as long as they don't make enough lucky rolls. At least when you fight a dragon, there's only one to soften up resists, and when you fight moderate mooks you can gas them as long as they don't have some bullshit resists. Mindflayers you just have to pick off with martials as fast as possible with no tactics.
>Really now? That sounds like fucking garbage, making initiative not matter. How does it work, preferably with proof?
I just told you how it works.
>with proof
boot up the game
It will be usual Larian garbage (read: GOTY material)
For example.
Lets say this Cleric wants to attack this Goblin.
He has a quarter staff with +1 to hit (+2 Proficiency , -1 Strength), however he can use the cantrip Shillelagh to turn it into a magic weapon with +5 to hit (+2 Proficiency with +3 from Wisdom).
The Goblin has an AC of 15, which means the Cleric needs to roll at least a 10 on the D20 to hit the goblin, giving him an effective 50% hit rate.
If the Cleric rolls 10 or higher on his attack roll he then rolls for damage, which in this case would be 1 d8 with an extra 3 damage added to the result.
>Forgot my image
What an embarassing waste of trips
>I just told you how it works.
No, you told me what it does -- forces initiative to swap between friendly and enemy characters instead of letting turn order fall where it may -- without proof. How does it, mechanically, do this?
Is this for real? Did they really put this in the game?
Do I look like I coded DivOS2 or something? What am I, a fucking defense lawyer?
Try playing the fucking game retard. I don't give a fuck about explaining to you mr prosecutor LARPER.
Initiative still matters, my friend dumped points into the stat that boosts your initiative because he was playing a dickass thief and he always went first.
its not always You>Them>You>Them>You either, just depends on your initiative stat I suppose. It didn't seem very random since my friend went first every turn.
See, this is what i mean by overcomplicating things unnecessarily.
Good for pnp, terrible for an actual videogame.
here you go bro!
the order is sorted by initiative stat, but the alternation between you->enemy is forced, except for round end/start, where there can be a repeat.
Its exceptionally simple once you actually understand how D&D works, its literally a bunch of single digit addition and subtraction.
Don't think of the D20 as being random, think of each digit as a 5% chunk. Every +1 is an extra +5% to hit, and inversely a -1 is effectively -5% to hit.
it will be shit either way.
How is that complicated?
It's literally how games with accuracy mechanics work too.
if attack > AC = hit
if hit = roll damage, your final result.
yep.
>that they went for "BG sequel!" is a negative sign
Yeah, this is my opinion. You won't get new interesting shit unless you launch new IPs every once in a while - they could just have been like "we got the 5e license, bitch is gonna be sweet" but instead they decide to go for the lazy option of making a sequel to a game that really didn't warrant one.
Most RPGs that have some form of mitigation and evasion mechanics have much, much more complicated formulas to determine damage taken/hit chance than literally subtracting number another number.
It will be even worse now that the Mouse bought up Hasbro and thus own D&D.
Because its exactly as soemone else in this thread already mentioned: Its going to be a glorified ad for 5E, which why its going to suck.
You better believe that it will go the Mass Effect Route where nothing really gets resolved and instead you can buy 5 Adventure Modules to find out what happened to your favourite characters.
>great rpg
>usual Larian garbage
Pick one, OP. DOS2 was amazing and critically acclaimed. Try a little harder.
Ok, information taken.
Larian could use ADnD 2e, forgotten realms, 3.5e, 5e, etc. for a game at any time and make the game turn based without anyone thinking twice, people would probably love it. The problem comes in making a sequel to beloved video game with an established fanbase and changing the mechanics that the fanbase has, for better ror worse, become accustomed to and played with for nearly twenty years. It would be nice to be able to play all three games through as one long game the way the first two can be played without a need to abruptly leanr a new game 2/3 of the way through.
I really hope Disney goes bust or at least downsizes when the MCU slows down
i guess people who never heard of the franchise or generaly dont have anyone into CRPGs will naturally start with 1
No.
No it isnt. Morrowind is not even simmilar to any DnD edition.
Ah so theres your problem, you are retarded and think alpha strike CCing the entire enemy team is fun.
It doesnt work in Divintiy as enemies will not attack you out of combat, a system in which you can CC the entire enemy team before the fight even began heavily overpowers the PCs.
And this was one of the major problems in OS1 if you werent a complete brainlet.
Hence why they introduced the armor system. S ven admitted it was a mistake, but he didnt went back on the idea of needing something that negates the constatn reliance on CC
Quick
PoE or Tranny
Depends if you like a more D&D standard fantasy setting or if a world appeals to you where Evil has won and you gotta be an asshole one way or the other.
My guess is these are "lesser mindflayers" without psionic powers that way you can have the party fighting them before lvl10 or whatever
>writing is cringe
nostalgia goggles begone.
I can screencap the same level of cringe in BG. GO FOR THE EYES BOO!
FOR GOODNESS!
Likewise, Larian also has serious writing, just not in OS1 because that was supposed to be a fairytale. Play OS2.
>Constant instant death
Ah its another case of
>Play hardmode
>complain that its hard
and
>easy revive
fucking WIzardry 7 and its easy revives!
>Focus on OC
So whats your opinion on Dragon Age origins?
>not letting your players do the calculations for you
>Not let your players provide space and food
>Not playing with autistic germans so you dont even need to learn the rules yourself
(Also I find the enemy variety in Tyranny lacking, and it is much shorter, but it does other things better and has some replayability if you get into it)
both are terrible tbqh
I prefer PoE1 overall.
Sven already said that its just a representation because its a trailer.
That scene wont happen in the game.
But in principle, this is what happens, but over the course of a week and usually in the mindflayer lair
>try get into baldur's gate 2
>the dated graphics suck absolute ass and the combat system is way too confusing
>4 years later
>clock in 500 hours in DOS2
>this announcement comes out
>Still cant look at BG2 graphics without eyes tearing up
Wat do?
If anything OS2 has too many movement abilities, i wish theyd tone it down.
or have more movement abilities like battering ram that do not ignore terrain.
one of my biggest gripes with the game.
When you have lived long enough to see the greatest being trashed.
BG2 doesn't look that bad dude
Same but I don't think the graphics look that bad but man is the gameplay a mess and enjoyable. I really can't get into Rtwp
I mean in execution stat/skill/spell/attack system. Forget the setting/lore.
the problem is that it means that focusing on one damage type is usually ideal. Even tho its absolutley not neccesary im palying a mixed non optimized team in tacticians mode.
That beeing said, the idea of it is good. Its basically Poise from Dark Souls, jsut having a CC bar instead of an Armor system would be the ideal solution imo.
Both thigns are true depending on what playstyle you go for.
Which should already tell you that the armor system is basically not nearly as big an issue as anons make it out to be.
If you go full Physical / magical you can nuke people down and dont think about what you are doing.
if you go mixed party you end up with fights where your strategy doesnt work because the entire enemy team is physical armor, making two of your party members stand around twiddling their thumbs.
But realy, this isnt a big issue. Its just an ofthen repeated thing that people that havent played the game latch on to to shit on it.
The real reason RPGcodex hates it, is because its a CC bar and not DIce rolls and they wanted dice rolls.
>BG2 wasn't an RPG
dude what
I like both PoE games but Tyranny bores the shit out of me. It has far too much text, you can literally spend an hour having a conversation with one person. Don't like the combat in Tyranny compared to PoE either and all of the characters are dull/
Also, Tyranny doesn't have based Eder.
how is this complicated you actual retard.
And the opposit is the case.
Complicated is good for a video game (automation), simple is good for pnp (takes less time)
Daily reminder that you aren't a BG fan if you hate RTWP. Daily reminder that DOS2 fags are false flagging as BG fans to convince you BG3 needs to have TB.
>Battle begins

>select character
>Give command
>unpause
>character performs action
>Enemy does something
>pause
>give character another command

>This is somehow completely different and totally better than turn based combat
im currently playing the game and this isnt true.
Stop lying.
>pic related
just pulled up a random screenshot from google
Do you see that? 3 fucking enemies in a row you dumb nigger.
Movement abilities are fun becaue they allow for more varied arenas with all the height differences. OS1 battle areas weren't very engaging aside from seeking a chokepoint where you could spam all your AOE.
RTWP takes skill unlike turn based faggotry.
Has Larian ever done a game like that?
They dont even do expansion packs.
it's different because all turns play out at once in rtwp. Also encounter designs are fundamentally different in both
It still isnt.
Morrowind isnt based on D20 whcih automatically makes it completley different from DnD.
They also make a lot of melee controll irrelevant.
If anyhting, there neesd to be something between crippled and not crippled.
Something that doenst forbid walking but forbids movement spells. Kind of like fortify but without the buff.
>RTWP takes skill
real time without pause takes skill, faggot
Isnt there a turn based system game where you had to give commands to all your characters at once, and after you had, they carried them out depending on initiative or some shit? Why not use something like that?
How does it take "skill" when you can pause and issue commands whenever? If it was about actual skill it'd just be regular real time combat.
I dont care what im a fan of.
also if you are already start a pasta, at least make it long and obnoxious
Try playing a RTWP game instead of just repeating shit you saw other shitposter say.
Yeah there are games like that. I think that was called phase based? I played a few games like that but can't remember any atm
I have, multiple, it's a shit combat system.
Frozen Synapse comes to mind.
But realy its just RTWP with more hoops to jump through.
It has the upside to RTWP that you have to commit to an action like you do in Turn based mode, but it also makes it less cool to set up plays imo.
Personally i prefer straight up turn based.
Chances are itll have an RTWP / TUrn based toggle or its gonna be an action game anyway.
When Sven said you wont miss on dicerolls, that shouldve told you its gonna be an action game.
ALl RTWP have missing on dice rolls and all turn based games have missing on dicerolls. OS1 and 2 also have misses and accuracy stats.
Its gonna be dragons dogma: worse waifus editions
>telling lies on the internet
Why?
DOS2fags are seething about the fact their game will never have legendary status like Baldur's Gate has.
It will be zoomer's-first-crpg tier like their other games. So shit.
The main question
rtwp romances or tb romances
>unironically liking rtwp
Why?
Kill self
Virgin TB
Chad RTWP
Real life is best rpg. No second lifes tho.
Am I retarded for not really pausing all that much during battles?
Depends on the game, rtwp games tend to be littered with snorefest trash fights that don't really require any micromanaging.
Quiet, you'll make the DOS2trannies seethe.
DOS1 > DOS2 >other recent rpgs
Only a zoomer can hold this opinion. Pillars of eternity= better story than them both. Wasteland 2= better gameplay.
Enhanced version Pathfinder is better than D:OS1 and 2
>says this while seething about how outdated and shitty his nostalgia-favoured combat system really is
Kenshi > all
I really miss the humor of D:OS1 in the second one. Oh, and my actions points. Wtf larian...
last few rtwp had garbage combat but overall it's cool to cast spell at the same time or at least have casting time on spells. Or disperse at the same time to not get hit by AoE
Never played a single classed kenshi before, feels like it would be too much of a glass cannon
Lads, whats are some good turn based rpgs? Ive played the divnity ones and fallout. Any suggestions?
Larian.
Is.
Not.
In charge.
They are the dev that is getting paid to make a game by Hasbro. During the presentation the literally had the suits from Hasbro on Stage, you doublenigger.
Silent Storm, it's strategy rather than RPG but you have to play it nonetheless.
I see.
Out of the recent ones there are Numenera and Wasteland 2. I heard good things about Atom rpg but haven't played it yet. Haven't played Age of Decadence either
read the explanation a couple posts down you stupid fucking faggot
it is true
homm3
Homm3 isn't an rpg, retard.
yea it is, you roleplay 1 or more leaders that gain stats during campaigns, you encounter story events and choose your skills etc.
Arcanum
Nigger the game doesn't have any dialogues or roleplaying, it's not an rpg.
magical creatures and enemy heroes don't really like to talk
>Miss 2 quest.
>You can't complete the game now because everyone overlevels you in the next act.
I'm betting they'll make the same stupid fucking mistake.
Age of Decadence
Underrail
based I hope you have a great day user
Don't use the fucking roleplay argument. By that logic Doom is a fucking roleplay game, any fucking game would be roleplay game.
Fighter/Mage with Kenshi kit is way more of a balanced character since you can offset your squishy factor with spells.
until they get rid of the retarded timed events it will never be better.
i don't need pointless limitations on how to play the game
niggers i meant the Kenshi store.steampowered.com
Can someome who knows their shit please explain how armor class works in relation to +1, +2, and +3 etc armor pieces works? And how you cant combine certain rings/necklaces/cloaks together? Fornexample i have a doomplate +3 and a full plate mail +1 and they both give me the same ac. Does the + number even mean anything?
Kenshi really isn't even in the same genre outside of a similar battle system, Kenshi's progression and overall "game" is closer to Mount and Blade Warband, it's a sandbox sim, not a campaign RPG.
Halo is a roleplaying game because you play the role of a master chef.
you make the campaign
Jesus, is Yea Forums just a bunch of drones that need serving?
+1 means it actually reduces your armor class by 1, lower AC is better just like how lower THAC0 is better. You can't combine multiple items that give the same bonus to avoid stacking, so if you get a +1 plate get rid of that ring that gives +1 AC and send it to another character.
So if it is a doomplate +3, and the description says AC: 0 does that mean its just 0, or is it 0 - 3 to get -3?
I'm a 29 year old who's played extensively on every fucking platform from the NES to the PS4, even going through a Newgrounds phase in the 2000's, with the only exceptions being Xbox consoles.
And this is my highly well informed, unbiased opinion:
These games suck fucking dick and you're a manchild for liking them:
-2D sidescroller games of any kind, go back to the 80's or go back to Newgrounds, stupid faggot
-Tower Defense games, go back to Newgrounds, stupid faggot
-Isometric Action RPG's, go back to the 90's fucking faggot
If you like these games you are literally retarded beyond belief and I would whole heartedly support your immediate suicide.
I think the description already factors the +3 enhancement. Either way you can always just compare with your current AC.
What the fuck does this have to do with Larian? Are you off your meds?
>2D sidescroller games of any kind, go back to the 80's or go back to Newgrounds, stupid faggot
Hollow Knight alone beats everything from the 80's or flash games
>Tower Defense games, go back to Newgrounds, stupid faggot
agree
>Isometric Action RPG's, go back to the 90's fucking faggot
literally kys faggot
If it's real time with a pause - it's trash by default.
Thanks bro.
its not an ARPG
thats like Diablo
If you get assigned a role - it's not an rpg.
Doubt it.
Play Jagged Alliance 2 user! It HAS Fox! Romance Fox! She IS the best wife! (She is! She is!)
Vtmb is not an RPG
Deus ex is not an rpg
>Baldur's Gate is not an RPG because you have to be Bhaalspawn
(You)
You also choose the endings in BG2 and Deus Ex.
Underrail
The reason people hated ME3's ending was hardly because you had to choose them. Mostly because they were shit. And choosing the ending part was garbage too, with that kid
Temple of Elemental Evil has the greatest turn based combat system ever put in a videogame.
Unfortunately everything else about it is suffering.
That's not what he meant, you literal shitstain.
Turnbased is better for coop.
If the outcome of the character's actions is determined from player control, ie. player aiming, dodging and attacking, then it's not an RPG. It's an action game.
A role-playing game needs the result of these actions to be derived from the character's stats. This isn't up for debate, never was, never will be. Action combat and RPGs are diametrically opposed. Only zoomers will dispute this.
>usual Larian garbage
What garbage?
sure it is
Bhaalspawn and Gorion's Ward are the roles you are assigned and absolutely cannot change
vtmb is very much an RPG
This. All their games are below garbage.
