King Kong is considered one of the greatest licensed games of all time. However, their choice to use the 360 version instead of an older version is a bit eyebrow raising. The 360 version was a remaster released a year later with some contentious art style changes and it's generally buggier.

I think the club music is by far the best track, but the soundtrack is overall solid. Syndicate 2012 is basically a hybrid of FEAR and Riddick and is mechanically something of a prototype for Wolfenstein: TNO. I think it's worth playing. People just hated it because it was a 6 hour long linear FPS game in a market where everyone wanted open world and stuff. Also the bloom effects are terrible. They can be modded out on PC, but consoles are stuck.

Microsoft have been supporting Backwards Compatibility since Windows 3.1 where they had a division painstakingly reverse engineering games to figure out why they crashed, and writing workaround code that silently triggered in the background. Backwards compatiblity is in MS's DNA. It's what set them apart from Apple so starkly.

If I understand it correctly the Xbox/360 library has grown to a large enough size that they now want to move to prepping the current Xbone games to be playable on the Scarlet. That seems fine, they still have all the Xbox/360 games they've done in their back pocket so they can say those games will be playable on the Scarlet alongside the current gen games.

They'll build a big enough library of Xbone games so that when scarlet launches you'll have access to many of your current games. There's no way in hell MCC and Halo 5 aren't playable day one on Scarlet alongside Halo Infinite. They spent so much time and effort on the Xbox/360 games its highly unlikely we're seeing the end of them coming to BC forever. Probably just until Xbone has a large enough impact for when Scarlet drops.

Beyond Phil taking on the approach of showing games at e3 that will launch within the next year, I read that he wants to have a new first party game every for months on the Scarlet. Odds are, hopefully anyhow, that next year alongside scarlet he reveals everything that the 1st party studios have been doing.

Fuck that would have been a good one.

Atari 7200 is BC with Atari 2600; as well as Genesis has Master System parts in it that just need a cartridge adapter to work.

Oh I understand that, it's more of a question of "You guys have this setup where it'll be usable on both systems but you're stopping support of it on one system while continuing it on the other when there's not much required of you to provide support. Why?"
As far as I understand the systems (Xbone and Scarlett) are using the same codebase/emulators to do this BC, it's just that they're cutting support for the Xbone but continuing everything from where they're already at on the Scarlett (Meaning it retains all the work they've done on the Xbone and then adds to it). They already spend their time having separate profiles for Xbone, S, and X, I don't understand why you don't just have a profile for the Scarlett's power as well and then just push it to all of the systems since the only thing you're doing is improving the framerate and graphical fidelity of these games.

Also, Xbone BC tweaking for Scarlett shouldn't be that tough, aren't modern consoles all working on x86 now which makes it much easier to get things going?

its a cost compared to labor thing they need to get a 100% compatibility rate with the scarlett for OG, 360 and xbox one titles which will be a difficult feat for any company but they only got a year in a half to look over a few thousand titles and test/debug so they need every hand on deck

Not to mention scarlett is the new console and they want to sell as many as possible so they're gonna primarily add BC to that instead so people on the older xbox one will be tempted to move to the newer console

Well in theory Xbox and 360 should transfer over just fine because they are basically virtual machines.
Xbone stuff could possibly be trickier because they might not be able to virtual machine that too well, so they have to make sure the CPU/GPU programming transfers 1 to 1 or better to the new hardware since there's going to be some architecture differences. (But nowhere near as radical as in previous generations)

No idea about the x86 thing. But I'd guess that the Xbox/360 BC additions are on hold so that all resources go to the Scarlet for the biggest launch they could possibly do in terms of past gen games at launch. They've built up the OG/360 library big enough where they probably feel like they can safely say "hey, we're stopping our BC program for the Bone and moving to gearing up the BC for the Scarlet when it launches so you have a lot of shit you can play at launch."

They more then likely just want all hands on deck to start getting the most needed Xbone titles on Scarlet since the BC team is just a small group of guys and not a larger segment of the whole Xbox group. Once Scarlet launches and they start doing post-launch BC updates I wouldn't be surprised if more Xbox/360 games come to the bone as well - if the emulation on Scarlet is the same as Xbone that is.

Xbox One should play natively, same architecture etc.

It would be amazing, but I imagine PSO2 would have to do gangbusters for it to happen.

Imagine if the Game Machine 2 had backwards compatibility for a bunch of Game Machine 1's games but they're being rolled out slowly. Game Machine 3 is announced and it's on the same architecture as GM2 so it will simply use what GM2 had already done with GM1 BC and continue adding onto that list. Then they announce GM2 is ending support for new GM1 BC games despite still being for sale and active at the same time during the transition period and it taking no effort to just slap the compatibility profile from GM2 in their equation instead of GM3's. Keep in mind that in this instance they would be testing the game to see if it works with GM3's extra horsepower and then sizing it down.

Again, as it is all the new features of the BC are just higher framerates and better graphical fidelity, so if Scarlett can do 8K 120 FPS and X can do 4K 60 FPS why not push it to both systems? You already have proof it works in higher stress situations without an issue so why stop it when I sincerely doubt it takes them more than an hour to get the games functioning Xbox family-wide in more than a day once they get one side finished. Hell, this would even make sense further down the line, let's say the Xbox 5 comes out and is still using the same architecture and BC emulation for the Xbox and 360, wouldn't it make sense to still push BC games to the Xbone?
