The thing is, you CAN still have Sam Fisher in the game filling in the Lambert role of guy in command of the operation, and give the new protagonist the level of Banter present in the first three games. Hell, want progressive points? Make the new guy customizable to some degree, including a male or female option. It's not like dual voiceovers for the two sexes are revolutionary these days.
The games themselves acknowledge that Sam Fisher is an old coot, but never want to actually acknowledge the fact that he is way too old to be in the field as the PC. The idea of a new protagonist that mocaps a young actor doesn't require you to retire the old one from the role.
