Hindsight is finally catching up to them I suppose.

It was fun at the time but after playing other, better banned you really notice how mediocre it was. Combat was laughably bad just mashing left click on enemy, puzzles were kindergarten tier match the shapes, animations were awful, skill training was half assed, dungeons were samey, traps were giant discolored pressure plates or huge oil spills that announced where they were so normies could feel clever about seeing them, enemies were boring (draugr meme), etc.

Blackreach was pretty cool though.

Vanilla Skyim on console is one of the worst games ever. Modded Skyrim on PC is alright.

Skyrim in its vanilla state is boring and stale.but with mods its pretty awesome. since the mods fix most of the issues with the game. and of course combat was just mashing the mouse...the fuck do you expect from a first person game? some kind of combo system?

Well, depends on how you look at it. It's not garbage the same way the first hobby project of a novice programmer would be garbage, say. Obviously. So what you do is to judge it against its peers, ie. professionally made high production value games of its time.

However, if you divide it to its component parts, only a couple of them (such as music and environments) could be described as "good" by this standard even if you're generous. Most would be average-ish. And there's a lot to it that is simply objectively trash (like the UI: it takes several times more time and actions to do things than it should). If you judge it as sum of its parts rather than as a whole (at which point it's a lot more difficult to judge raw quality without letting your personal preferences influence the conclusion too much), for a high product value game its quality would be bounded at average. But then again, it's actually not just another high production value game but it had a lot more going for it, starting with all previous TES games (and their mods!) the successes and failures of which it should have taken some lessons from. And at that point the bar it should be expected to beat isn't "an average game" (including these hobby projects) or "an average AAA game", but "a high-profile AAA game that had a lot going for it", and at that point it really starts looking rather pathetic. How did you achieve such dull first-person-stabber combat when you had developers of Dark Messiah working for you for example?
