It's a different type of mecha anime. I wouldn't say it's bad. I did enjoy Gunbuster better though. The last episode with the Gunbuster references was fucking great

Don't expect high brow stuff. The only good character in the show is a 30+ woman captain.
Macross 7 is ruined by its MC. Contrarians and nostalgia will tell you otherwise. There is only 1 good character in the show who only appears 1/2 the time in the show (he's played by the Takehito Koyasu)
Macross Frontier SUCKS because of the boring characters but it has an amazing seiyuu cast.

I watched SDF, 7, and frontier recently and HATED what the franchise has become.
Sure Macross was about love triangles from the beginning but at least SDF had a lot of other interesting stuff going on in the background from getting bored by the same drama
