Sure, it was the most straightforward MK with the least amount of bullshit items, the low poly 3d and 2d sprite aesthetic still holds up today, and the courses are all generally pretty fun

It's not better than many of the other MKs but its still an alright enough entry that can be replayed & enjoyed.

Even as a kid I didnt like it. DS and 8 are my favorites

DK64 is absolute trash compared to Mario 64. And Mario Kart was better when it was about karts. They should bring the series back to the basics.

You can still play with the pipe frame and standard set of wheels in MK8, and I think you also could in some of the former games, not sure. They also have pretty good stats, at least in 8 Deluxe.

Fucking this. Picking a character was so much better than dealing with parts. I like them for single player, but are an unnecessary addition for a party game. Simplicity is important for party games.

This. The game didn't need parts or an obscene amount of racers. It was also complete and whatever bugs it shipped with (and abused) couldn't be fixed with an update. The soundtrack, specially the touching ending credits, still gives me goosebumps. Lastly, it's a blast to play with friends and even by yourself simply because it's fun. It's my favorite Mario Kart and even favorite racing game overall.

The argument wasn't about previous entries user. Every Mario Kart does it either by changing the pitch and tempo on the final lap or adding certain modulation and reverb effects in certain areas, like underwater or caves.
In Mount Wario (got the name wrong in the first post, lel) case, it's really special, as each area has a whole different music section with only a motif here and there to set the mood. Not only the composition is great, the execution is also great. Hope they bring more checkpoint based tracks in the future.

Mario Kart has had multi channel songs before, where the music changes upon entering a new area of the track. Mount Wario isn't the only example of that
It always confuses me how people on Yea Forums don't know shit about the games they shitpost about.

They don't understand multiple tracks play at the start and simply have a transition between the tracks whenever a progress point is reached.

Its quite simple. You need to start with the following premise; coins are a garbage system. Coins and similar systems serve against the interests of kart games, as an anti-comeback mechanic that most benefits the lead player and harshly punishes anyone behind another competant player. Under this logic, any game with a coinlike system, where a good player with a lead can deny a good player behind them access to basic resources like an uncapped top speed, should be immediately disregarded as a failure in the genre.

I highly agree with this. It is way too easy to stay in first in MK8D because everyone behind you keeps fucking each other up, which leads to people losing coins and having to go out of their way to grab coins while you can chill in first with 10 coins sticking to your TT lines.

MK64 is the best one because it's the last one where you can truly screw someone over with a well timed item. Getting hit in 64 sent you FLYING, and at certain points in the track you could absolutely destroy someone's entire race, like the jumps over the track in Wario Stadium where a well timed lightning bolt or red shell would send them careening down the pit to a previous section of the track.
Every Mario Kart afterwards has been sterilized like Mario party so little timmy doesn't get too far behind when he gets hit with a red shell, and lakitu makes sure you can never skip forward or backward on the track.

it is pretty hard to defend any sort of old game without nostalgia you cock, because for the most part technology has gotten so ridiculously much better since even the 90's
Nostalgia isn't intrinsically a bad thing, but kids of today literally have mario kart 8. 64 was super fun and is nice and simple but if you weren't around to appreciate it as the peak technology and entertainment in its time, it's very likely that you simply won't ever understand why people like it best.

I wish to post that Mario Kart Wii webm at you but lack it. The games became more sterilized in terms of multiplayer, but in DS and Wii the AI had an absolute hate boner for the player and will swamp you with items to make sure you don't win. Hell, I think even 8 stll has your teammates attack you in Battle Mod.
