Was Ace Combat 7 decent?

Was thinking of getting at a game or two for summer if there were any interesting ones on sale this month. AC7 is having a small bit off (30%), not a big sale but not 5% or some shit, and I forgot how that was received. I'm not a big AC guy, but I enjoyed a few of the earlier ones like 4 and 5 just fine. I'm sure it'll be some fun regardless but is it worth it at 1/3 off or is it worth waiting until winter for 1/2 off or whatever?

It was pretty good, gameplay is fucking great, story falls apart In a few places and the ending feels a bit rushed but everything else is pretty good so yeah get it
Soundtrack is top tier as well

It's pretty good. There's a lot of missions, but some are pretty tedious. People who really liked 6 seem to like it while Zero fans are pretty lukewarm.

I enjoyed it

I really, really liked it. Fantastic ost, great gameplay and mission variety. The plot is kinda garbage, they introduce a ton of characters that either disappear, die offscreen and it feels like they tried to tell five different stories at the same time. It doesn't help when one of the most important infodump of the story is set during a fucking escort mission and all you hear is MISSILE MISSILE MISSILE MISSILE.

Its okay.

It was fun

Its a great game.

>You can actually do that
Holy fucking shit.

Sounds solid then, well within expectations at any rate. While some of the stories have nailed things better then others it always seemed to push the crazy camp fun a bit, so some errors there doesn't bother me. And unfortunate reality these days seems to be that rushed endings to decent vidya (or shows even) are more the rule then the exception. But if the rest is great then fuck yeah. Soundtrack also, I still listen to AC4's.

Time to buckle in and head for the skies once again. Thanks anons.

The post stall manoeuvre mechanic is pretty useless, but very fun and it makes you feel like a certified ace when you actually pull one off in the middle of a fight.

IIRC development was restarted multiple times and really the current form of the game only existed since mid-2017 when the Erusea Strikes Back trailer came out.

Yeah, they had to scrap a bunch of shit when the game started to bog down into development hell.

Did the game do well enough for a warrant an AC8 or are we done for?

Its one of the best selling games in the franchise.

It was okay, looked stunning and the new gameplay was a nice upgrade. None of the missions were really that interesting for me though apart from a couple like Stongehenge and the oil rigs and the story falls apart at the end

Solid game, though the multiplayer feels lackluster after Infinity.

You can tell because there's basically 2-3 storylines going on that have been mashed together

If you like the PS2 games, you'll probably enjoy this one quite a bit. It's not my favorite game in the series, but it's great to see them returning to the classic formula.

Multiplayer sucks, but for my money Ace Combat is a single player game. Also PC version supports skin modding.

>Multiplayer sucks, but for my money Ace Combat is a single player game.
Wish Namco Bandai would see it that way too. MP is okay but its not the core of the franchise.

If they want MP they should just make a separate MP dedicated AC game that they could support for 10 years. Like Infinity but not.

Just like real life

Absolutely fucking kino

right behind AC4 iirc

ace combat is boring as fuck and a watered down sim for braindead zoomers

I definitely don’t care about MP, so that’s not a ding to me.

Yeah just making a dedicated game for that seems the better move if they were serious about it, but I’m fine with it just being a small side bonus to the main game people can play around with a bit or ignore if they want too.

Maybe even better selling than 4.

I thought it was THE best selling game

Literally just take Assault Horizon, cut out the single player, and update the planes/copters.
Oh, and add Ring Battle and NTDM from Infinity.

If I recall correctly, there was an interview with Kono where he said the PA team had written up a sequel to Infinity, so there might be a chance (very small chance) that an Infinity 2 could be made.
That said, PA is a very small team, and they'll probably prefer to focus on the main line Ace Combat games instead.

For me, its because the SP weapons are influenced by MP balance.
Therefore they can't give planes crazy load outs anymore. Like TLS that works.

That would be pretty hot on the one hand but

>That said, PA is a very small team, and they'll probably prefer to focus on the main line Ace Combat games instead.
yeah that would seem smart. Particularly if they just had a hit out of AC7 and the series ball is just getting rolling again, and I guess it had some dev hell already. Plenty of vidya IPs have gotten killed by teams spreading themselves too thin, sometimes just better to focus even if something else could be cool.

looks like ac7 did the 'season pass' thing too. any of that dlc shit actually end up being good? or just ignore it all like normal?

It sounds like they're already doing some preproduction work on AC8.
It gives you three of the fictional planes (The Raven, Falken, and Morgan) and three side story missions, along with some emblems and skins.

Pre-orders+initial sales were pretty close to best the series has ever had according to Kono. Though I might remember that wrong
I have a feeling that 8 wont sell as well as 7 because now people know what to expect from a modern Ace Combat game

Planes are nice but we still have almost no onfo on the missions. Price of the pass is a bit too high for the ammount of content it offers

Right on the money. I held back on the pass because I don't know what we're getting.

>I have a feeling that 8 wont sell as well as 7 because now people know what to expect from a modern Ace Combat game
Dunno, 7 might have actually set it up alright, if if IF they can deliver on 8. Because 7 did have dev hell, did have long delays, and had to kind of be rush shipped a bit yet it turned out bretty gud anyway. So 7 may have reinvigorated interest a bit, introduced some new people, and 8 could in principle be even better if they've got things clicking a bit more now. Or maybe it'll end up delayed 5 years too who knows.

But I think 8 could surpass 7 and if so also stands a reasonable chance of sales. Worth hoping a little anyway.

makes sense. more missions seems cool but guess passes always a gamble on any real content being produced. specially from a small team thinking about next game maybe.

For me, its the CFA-44 Noferatu

Maybe it they just let us kill the bad guy this time.
Yellow 13 went down, Ofnir and Grabacr drowned, Cipher dabbed on so many Belkans some of them just decided to become depressed flight instructors.
Mihaly gets to die on his bed at an old age, just like what Scrap Queen described peace to be like.

I think Mister X's wingmen can be killed by the final bosses but I bet they live in canon.

Wit gets droned canonically

>Wit gets droned canonically
You can save him, actually.
He even has some extra lines if you do.
