Which will it be?

Which will it be?

Super, it's by far the superior game. ZM is still classic though.

I like walljumps in Super more, and thought it has the overall cooler atmosphere.
Been a while since I played both, though.

Super. Zero Mission felt like it was trying to replicate what made Super so special without really understanding what that actually was. Still a good game, though.

Super was all around more challenging and memorable.

Zero Missions map felt more bloated in size with less content. Only thing I remember from it was the shinespark puzzle and the zero suit portion.

Not saying ZM was bad, just not as good.

Super

but ZM is good.

Hell, most Metroid games are pretty good

>still no official statue of pic related

i would pay so much money for this

Super is universally accepted as better than ZM. I do like ZM but it's just not the same.

Who else loved Super and ZM but fucking hated the Metroid 2 remake?

SR isn't bad, but it feels very uninspired and as much as I hate this meme, souless. Kinda just made for the sake of it with no love

I blame the uninteresting environments, personally. Every area feels the same despite you continuously moving farther and farther underground. The sameness takes away from the feeling of true exploration like ZM and Super have.

Hopefully they fix this for Metroid 5

which? I thought AM2R was all right but got bored by SR

AM2R is just as bad in my opinion. So much of it just screams "fan game trying too hard"

Dread.

We better not be getting another Metroid remake tomorrow. None of the remaining games need a remake in the slightest, they are fine as they are.

There's plenty of people out there that are competent enough to make another whole new 2D metroid, it's surprising at this point they haven't found such people yet

If it has to be another remake instead of Metroid 5, then it should be Fusion just to put the modern audience to date with the plot of the current storyline and where we left Samus.

But still, I rather Metroid 5 instead of another Remake, they can just release Fusion in the Eshop somehow if we really need to have a refresh of the story.

Super. Always Super. Favorite game of all time. Zero Mission is utterly fantastic though.

For me, Zero Mission, is brilliantly design for many kinds of play, is a completely different game if you decide to speed run it, get all the power ups or go with the least amount of pickups you can.

AM2R at least tries to be a remake instead of a re imagining.

Sakamoto has already said there won't be more remakes for now. If we get a game tomorrow (which seems likely) then it'll be new.

The original Metroid on the NES remains the masterpiece of the series, warts-and-all

Don't get your hopes up. The leaks mentioned things that weren't revealed at Xbox or Bethesda and they already gave Metroid a "maybe"

>The leaks mentioned things that weren't revealed at Xbox or Bethesda
Wasn't Perfect Dark the only thing that wasn't shown (and the leak didn't even say that it would be, just that it's in development)?

The part that hurt the most is that the leak said that everything IS happening, but that not everything may show on E3, so even if Metroid is a no show tomorrow, a part of me may not be able to let go the hope, even if I fully realize that part of the leak may be in fact wrong.

Based.

I'm fine with the Prime Trilogy being released on Switch, but frankly I'd rather have nothing than a remake of Super/Fusion/ZM. It's a waste of resources that could have been used on MP4 or Dread.

SR is lazy and uninspired. There's so much more they could've done with a reimagining, but they decided to keep the linear area progression. On top of it, the design, art, atmosphere, and music are mediocre at best

Super. This isn't a question.

The resource for Prime 4 has nothing to do with whatever the hell this may be, and Dread is dead.

I also rather a Metroid 5, and I have high hopes, but even if it's a remake, I guess it would be used to test the engine on Switch for 5 eventually, and maybe tease more of 5 like they did with Samus Returns.

>fan game trying too hard
Explain. I just finished it and it was a blast.

>On top of it, the design, art, atmosphere, and music are mediocre at best
And you lost me there, but still, It was just a remake of a very linear game, If they were to made a brand new map yo make Metroid 2 closer to Super, ZM or Fusion, then they would have truly designing a brand new game from scratch, and at that point, they may as well have just done 5 instead of the Metroid 2 remake people was asking for at the time. Not to mention, it was mostly a test for MS to see if they could handle future entries.

This

It's aesthetic and physics feel like they were made in Gamemaker Studio honestly. And stuff like the bullethell boss are so out of place and feel only tacked in for the sake of being "cool"

I didn't hate it by any means, but I don't understand people who say it's better than SR. Both are serviceable with their own faults

Well my point is they already made a new game from scratch. How much from the original 2 is left in there? It's like they couldn't be bothered to actually remake the original, but at the same time didn't feel like putting any effort into their world design. It's all random tunnels segmented into their own areas because that was easier to design. Why not just stick to the old maps then?

Super. Infinitely superior movement options.

It will be literally Metroidvania.
Screencap this.

Because the old maps were awful, and the game was even more repetitive... people truly forget that game may be "atmospheric" (whatever intentionally or product of being on game boy is open to debate) but it was not really good.

Samus Returns suffers a lot of the same problems of the original, being just as lineal and kind of repetitive, sadly out of respect to the original, but at least they try to vary the maps. Again, fans wanted a remake of 2 while Mercury wanted a remake of Fusion and Sakamoto just wanted to make a Metroid game, so in the end, they made a test to try to make all parties happy.

>AM2R at least tries to be a remake instead
?

>It's aesthetic and physics feel like they were made in Gamemaker Studio honestly.

Its an upscaling of the ZM aesthetic and the physics are hardly different. Honestly, did you play it?

>linear area progression
>Metroid 1
you played it wrong, it's way less linear than Super

I just call it like I see it user, of course I played the game. Everything feels just off enough to have a constant reminder that I'm not playing an official product

This is NOT what Zero Mission looked like

Those tiles look like recoloured Metroid Fusion tiles.

I don't think they'd do a remake of a remake, this isn't pokemon

Some of the assets are taken straight out of ZM without a single modification.

a new game

Why don't they just make an original game for once?

I meant which do you prefer

SM > SR > ZM

Metroid 5 is already been rumored to be presented tomorrow

You guys ready for AM2R to look worse?

never played a metroid game before, but now I'm getting interested in metroid-like games
where should I start? , with the nes or with super? also any tips I should know?

Zero Mission is objectively the best starting point. After beating that game, you can go through the series in release order.

Zero Mission is the first chronologically and by far the shortest and easiest. It'll ease you in to the sort of things you can expect.

Most of AM2R's tiles are ripped from Fusion and Zero Mission with minor edits.

Man I hope that's optional.

Zero Mission is the objectively best starting point in every single way

Then go to Samus Returns for the 3DS (or skip it if you want to, it's not bad but it's the most underwhelming, it's plot is also recapped in the Super opening) and then play Super. Cap it off with Fusion

You can play the prime trilogy whenever you want, but I personally think Prime is best appreciated back to back with Super

thanks guys, downloading it rn

What am I looking at?

Here is a good image for reference

This chart sucks. It's more like a game tier list than an actual guide for getting into the series.

Shortly after the DMCA, some of the AM2R devs posted a roadmap on the forums of what they wanted to accomplish with the game in subsequent updates. One of those goals was to revamp the game's graphics to remove any content borrowed from official games. In fact, the 1.2 update, which was slated to release just before the DMCA came in, was going to start this process by revamping the Golden Temple.
Fast forward a few months, and the community has reverse engineered the game. They took it upon themselves to update the game with these features that never made it in, along with a few ideas of their own. That includes the eventual overhaul of the game's graphics. What you're looking at is a WIP mock-up of the rooms leading to the Spider Ball in a new style.
They're going the extra mile with this overhaul by revamping the art style for a few things, too, such as making all new Samus sprites based on her original Metroid II look, instead of the current Zero Mission/Other M cross she has.

it's a bit of both.

but the only objective fact that is correct is to avoid Other M

It's not even that good a tier list. It puts Metroid 2 and Prime 2 over ZM. Like, sit the fuck down.

Please don't play with my feels, I've been waiting longer for M5 than for a gf

The first 2D Metroid I played was Super. I wonder why you guys always recommend the GBA games first? I imagine it'd be kind of odd going backwards.

Holy fuck this chart is awful.

>Metroid 2 Zero Mission of Fusion
>Metroid 1 over any of the playable games
>Including fan games

What the fuck am I even looking at?

It's much more accessible, takes place first, and eases you into the games format rather than Super which throws you blindly into a kinda overwhelming map that can be intense for people who aren't used to metroidvanias

Easier and not as good.

If you start with Super Metroid you run into the risk of either not liking it because it's not as accessible or liking it too much and skipping other games because they're not just as good.

If you're going to include AM2R you may as well include some of the more noteworthy Super Metroid mods like Hyper Metroid.

Yeah, the other 2D games aren’t as good as Super. I didn’t skip them though because every Metroid game has been pretty enjoyable overall. Solid series.

Am2r looks cheesy
