Why is this E3 so underwhelming
Why is this E3 so underwhelming
Games take too long to make now.
Everybody holding back for Next Gen
According to your image, it starts tomorrow.
It's not
We are just waiting for Nintendo, the best part
I think it's just we're finally closing out the current gen and most devs and companies are already trying to prepare for next gen 2020-2021 so there isn't much to give currently that's worth the time
it hasn't been that bad so far desu.
>EA (Too scared to show up bonus round)
D+, sportsball and WE TOTALLY CARE
>Microsoft
solid B-, showed games despite some games being "who cares" tier
>Bethesda
F for fucking garbage. It'll be hard for Ubi to have the worst E3 this year.
>Devolver Digital
C+, skits were shit but at least it was short and quick while showing off mostly interesting games
>Pre Pre Show (Surprise 12 hour bonus round brought to you by Twitch)
A+, had true kino like the stageplay and concert, but it followed a bell curve like usual. It'd be SSS rank if not for the terrible start and underwhelming ending. Some sections were also hit/miss, but the highs carried the fuck out of the lows.
This. I believe this was the same for 2013 when we were transitioning into PS4 and Xbone so more than likely 2020 E3 will be loaded with more games aimed at holiday release for the new consoles
good games require more time to make faggot
Becuase of Bethesda. Microsoft was fine, Devolver was fine, but Bethesda had nothing of importance to show, so it was just 1,5 hours of padding, while it should've been potentially one of the highlights of E3. Bethesda dragged the whole conference down as a whole.
Sony is missing. Without the heavy hitter that carried the last 4 E3s you finally start to see how useless the show as a whole is.
I think devs are only just now realizing that they shouldn't announce games fives years before they're finished.
Honestly? Do we even really need e3 anymore? Shit gets announced anytime now.
This, plus a lack of gameplay footage and nearly everything being a sequel/spiritual sequel or something we've known about for ages.
No SONY
You are no longer the target audience.
you're right, I'm not the target audience of shit games
the press conferences were never good, they've always been a glorified 2-3 hour commercial
it's only fun when you're there and able to play the games on the floor
>Without the heavy hitter that carried the last 4 E3s
They've been showing off the exact same games for the last 4 E3's
>Devolver Digital
>short
It was literally 12 hours long.
Are you suffering from memory loss? 90% of the time E3 is disappointing to people. There have been occasional gems but most often every E3 it’s always prehype, massive speculation, and then threads like this. Honestly, this E3 isn’t even that bad. It’s average/passable at worst.
>PPS
>Devolver
Thank you for understanding.
Sony wasnt here
user, he separated them because they weren't part of devolver's conference.
devolver might've had a few people take part in PPS, but it was done by the twitch guys
E3 where your hopes and dreams go to did
Nintendo will be good. Microsoft blew their load last year so they didn't have nearly as much to show this year. Also the PC show will hopefully be good despite being sponsored by chinkpic games
Plenty of AA and indie games were shown but you fucks don't count those as games because you suck AAA blockbuster dick.
Post pipe dreams that would've made E3 good for you.
It's a combination of things:
>Capcom was the god of wish fulfillment last year with DMC5, RE2, etc
>Most major games were announced last year so at best we're waiting for updates (Halo Infinite, DOOM Eternal, FFVII:R, Jedi: FO, etc.)
>We're on the cusp of transitioning into a new console gen but not close enough for full showcases, so major devs and manufacturers are hinting at next gen and holding back announcements until closer to release, sans the cross gen titles
Mostly, they kind of shot themselves in the foot last year by announcing everything with brief teasers but no details then holding actual news about those games until this E3.
Because games have just been more of the same since last gen.
Because this is the last year of the current console gen. Everyone is busy working on their launch titles for next fall/holiday, and they want to keep all this shit as close to their chests as possible. There will be a lot more hype next E3, we're just stuck with the dregs of what remains for this console cycle. Still, I think theres more games to be excited for than there was in, say, 2013 or 14
I'm just happy that more Psychonauts exists.
And if they were, they'd show the same few games they've been showing for the last few E3s.
No Sony being weird.
>Sony going and showing a game that's not a movie
>Microsoft confirming the next Xbox will have actual exclusive games
>Bethesda goes to E3 to announce they're going out of business
They'd show the same things but they have their strange padding like flute man and banjos we can laugh at.
So far It's generally pretty bad but It's also understandable, It's the end of the generation. I think Microsoft was pretty great despite that.
This is it really. Besides Nintendo, everyone is pretty much on hold. The only worthwhile games announced or shown off in the first place appear to be at the very least cross gen.
I hate how strongly this mentality has been adopted this gen, cause it never really felt like it got going. Stuff looks better sure, but little looks actually amazing and there hasn't been any technology that stands out to me as we really couldn't do this before. Console often got some of their best and most refined games near the end of their life. Devs had really mastered the hardware and how they can squeeze more out of it.
Not that this gen has been bad, but it has been kinda forgettable.
>Microsoft confirming the next Xbox will have actual exclusive games
You should never expect this ever again. Microsoft has made it clear they want the Xbox ecosystem totally integrated with PC gaming. There will never be an Xbox only game ever made again, only Microsoft exclusive.
because technology and game design have been converging for 10+ years. Very little originality anymore. Very little technical achievements anymore. Just the latest crap to ooze out of the grinder
>EA restores EA BIG and makes a new SSX like Tricky, plus other XTREEEME sports games (motocross, wingsuits, ridiculous trick-styling, etc.)
>Microsoft just says "nah, fuck it we're out" and focuses primarily on making PC games that are optimized for Windows so they run on potatoes and are slightly cheaper so they have the edge on console pricing
>Nintendo makes their online multiplayer for Switch free again forever and announces a swan song lineup for the 3DS filled with shit like Meteos 3DS or perhaps a 3DS collection of old DS games that had their prominent online functions removed like Metroid Prime Hunters, Planet Puzzle League, Advance Wars DoR, etc.
Because you're a bitch.
Tales of Arise, Way to the Woods, Jedi Fallen Order, Elden Ring, Cadence of Hyrule, Luminous Avenger IX, Grandia HD
I'm pretty happy so far honestly
Lack of Sony, and Microsoft too busy on their next gen console. The real fun begins tomorrow.
This, I don't understand the point of them even making Xbox anymore. Is it going to be just a discount PC?
The only 2 games anyone actually wants are Doom and cyberpunk, neither are coming out for 6+ months.
Rest is decade old shit and indie trash
Because its the same shit they showed last year
this, majority of developers stop carying about xbox one/ps4, they wait for project scarlet and ps5.
Microsoft had a great E3 but it's the end of the generation for Microsoft and Sony. Next E3 is gonna be way better
Nuke goes off taking out most of the American developers
>Sony’s latest playable movie
They’re not missed at all
>Very little originality anymore. Very little technical achievements anymore.
But that isn't cause there is no room to. Look at ArcSys and how they've continually improved the Xrd graphic tech. They really achieved something special and the contracts it got them proved that. Studios just want to scoot by making bland games that have as wide an appeal as possible. But eventually that is going to start tanking studios. There is too much competition not to make something that stands out, especially cause none of them know how to budget.
There is very little that can be innovated at this point in video game history, devs can only really make graphics better or reduce load times. there just isnt much new to be done in the medium, and almost all the focus that could go into thinking of and implementing new ideas instead goes to lengthening the hours people spend playing through meaningless, repetitive daily grinds or monetizing different aspects of the game.
An active shooter(s)
Basically. You underestimate the amount of normies who have brand loyalty as well as being committed to the Xbox Live ecosystem. I’ve talked to people who simply have no interest in PlayStation because they are attached to their Xbox achievements and friends list. But if those things aren’t important to you and you’re competent enough to build a PC, there’s really nothing alluring about owning an Xbox, especially now that Game Pass is available on PC too.
>it hasn't been THAT bad
>give one, one fucking conference a decent rating out of 4
>the one thing graded high has nothing to do with video games
Are you sugar coating things for yourself, or other people?
>Look at ArcSys and how they've continually improved the Xrd graphic tech.
graphics are lowest hanging fruit these days. the kind of technical achievements that get me going are ones that leverage the hardware to implement games that weren't possible before, or that has extremely unique mechanics. Honestly, the most technically innovative game I've seen this past year was Baa Baa is You
Lots of innovations have been made this gen that had nothing to do with graphics processing power. It’s just that in order to justify the insane investment these games take you have to aim at the widest possible market, which means an extremely bland product.
I still don't understand the point of E3 in the streaming age. You can broadcast at anytime and anyplace to show pre-rendered trailers and listen to people pretend like they want to be there. It's a boring industry event only now the general consumer gets excluded.
Advance Wars
Good Shenmue 3 footage
Age of Empires 4
Because everything is leaked and pretty much always true and they show 8 months before the e3 a trailer which they will show again on e3
>There is very little that can be innovated at this point in video game history,
You don't genuinely believe that do you?
And seeing how that was enough should tell you how abysmal the rest was. And now without Sony it's obvious to everyone.
>the kind of technical achievements that get me going are ones that leverage the hardware to implement games that weren't possible before
fucking this, like for example with next gen machines having SSDs and lots of high bandwidth memory you can effectively stream environments through RAM and all but eliminate loading screens. Imagine what this could do for games like 3D sonic which were previously limited in stage size by the memory of the system
>t. school shooter
Every year is the same. Sharper image of last year's garbage.
There's been some good stuff, so I'm not yet dissapointed.
That Flight Simulator with real-time weather data. Say what you will, that shit's gold.
kind of agree with him desu. We definitely got the worst of it out of the way between EA and Bethesda being on Day 1, so it's basically all uphill from here unless we count Ubisoft
>this
>not every
How old are you? 10?
>C+
>Not decent
c's get degrees my underaged friend
hell if you want to get technical, the D+ is passing too
>You will never be 14
>You will never be psyched for release dates to come
>You will never believe it or not it's E3
>so it's basically all uphill from here unless we count Ubisoft
Ubisoft is the show I'm most excited for on the off chance we get Mario + Rabbids 2
because sony isn't there to save it :)
Nobody is the target audience retard, all games this year are shit
>Switch pro
>TES 6
I have a Switch, but whenever I play these hyper-realistic games on PS4 or Xbone they feel so fucking slow. Why would I want to play as a character who can move the same speed as me in real life? I want to double jump and shit.
I'm pretty excited too but it's basically wishlist tier
>3d rayman
>new left field game like mario rabids
>Beyond Good/Evil 2 is good
>reason to play For Honor again
I've noticed that no one is even afvertising Devolver/PC Gaming show. To actually find out what they announced I had to watch it.
Like imagine having a converence type thing get IGNORED by every journalist site cause your not a big 5 dicksucker. Ironically Devolver showed at least some gameplay
Maybe next year they will fucking learn. Less fun, MORE of the following
>SJWs talking about how their games kept them from suicide
>We are 4EVERYONE
>Every game is SJW libtrash
Because the video game industry is going out of fashion and dying which isn't a bad thing because it would become niche once again and lead us to a second golden gen
This is unironically the most boring E3 I’ve seen so far. None of the announcements have been interesting and there hasn’t been enough crash and burn presentations or memes.
No last of Us 2, no sony conference, so it's fucking boring as shit
Zero gameplay
>beth conference
>good
even reddit tore that shit apart
E3 starts when it's Nintendo's turn.
I never understood the point of releasing a VIDEOGAME trailer without fucking GAMEPLAY footage. It just demonstrates that devs have nothing to show.
Wonderful 101 sequel
>Nintenyerolds unironically think the remade vomit Nintendo will puke up with save "anything"
Deeply embarassing`
Because the end is near. It’s really that simple
>games have become dramatically worse over the years despite better tech
>Even Nintendo is doing paid dlc as the norm now, so there’s no respectable standard anymore. Everything’s about money now
>Not just games. Movies, almost everything else is low quality compared to about 6 years ago
In a perfect timeline we’d be gettin a completely overhauled Pokemon, but instead they’re sticking gen 7 bits in where they can to be lazy. Good boys will think I’m crazy
Animal Crossing
Breath of the Wild sequel a la majora's mask
Mother 3 localized
Metroid Prime 4 gameplay footage
Battle Network Collection
Resident Evil Outbreak remaster
Because they haven't revealed Banjo for smash yet. Just wait till tomorrow.
It's a meeting event where devs, journalists and some fans talk to each other.
Sony isn't there. Aside from their exclusives, they have marketing deals that prevent some devs from showing off games at other press conferences. Like 1/4th of the total games you'll play on Xbox/pc in the next year or two will not be seen in a press conference because they're on a marketing deal with Sony.
