ELDEN RING INTERVIEW WITH HIDETAKA MIYAZAKI

news.xbox.com/en-us/2019/06/09/hidetaka-miyazaki-and-george-rr-martin-present-elden-ring/

>Forged from the minds of two of the most influential fantasy world builders today, Elden Ring brings you into a new and fully realized mythos. A collaboration between the creator of the critically-acclaimed Dark Souls series, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and the world-renowned writer George R. R. Martin, author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” this ambitious title combines their unique talents for creating elaborate characters, stories, and mythologies. To prepare you for the undiscovered world of Elden Ring, we sat down with Miyazaki-san to get some exclusive insights on the experience that awaits you.

>Sam Wilkinson, Bandai Namco: First off, please tell me when and how development for Elden Ring took off.

>Hidetaka Miyazaki, Game Director: Development for Elden Ring started just after development for the Dark Souls 3 DLC had ended. At the time, Elden Ring was being planned as a more classic fantasy title compared to others that were either being considered or already in the early stages of development.

>We wanted to create a new dark fantasy action RPG full of things that we weren’t able to do in the Dark Souls series.

>Wilkinson: Elden Ring seems to have been in development at the same time as Sekiro. How did you go about its development?

>Miyazaki: The overall process of development has been the same as it was in Sekiro.

>While assigning co-directors to each project, I took direction over the various game design, art and musical aspects of the titles.

>We tend to space out the development-peak for our projects to make use of what little time we have, however being able to share a vision with the co-directors as well as the development staff has allowed us to build a trusting relationship which makes this kind of development style possible. I am incredibly grateful for them and their hard work.

>Of course, this project still has a load of work ahead of it as well (laughter).

>Wilkinson: What genre do you think Elden Ring will fall under?

>Miyazaki: It is a third-person action RPG.

>Unlike Sekiro, which has a heavy focus on action, Elden Ring puts more focus on RPG elements.

>Of course, we are not shying away from the fun of responsive melee-based combat, and these elements will be present as well.

>Wilkinson: Do you believe this title will turn out to be a very From-like and challenging game?

>Miyazaki: Yes, I do. The importance we place on the joy the player experiences through overcoming challenges will be the same as it is in our other titles. I believe it will prove to be a very satisfying experience.

>Earlier I had said that this title focuses more heavily on RPG elements. This title will include a wide variety of weapons, magic, and ways to engage enemies, that make it possible to provide users with a style of gameplay and strategy that suits them.

>Even when compared to the Dark Souls series, I believe this title will provide even more variety in the ways for players to overcome challenges and tweak their tactics when facing enemies.

>Wilkinson: Will Elden Ring contain character customization elements like in Dark Souls, or will it be similar to Sekiro in that there is a fixed protagonist that the player controls?

>Miyazaki: Yes, it will contain character customization elements.

>Similar to the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring allows players to design and control their own unique character. As I said earlier, this title puts a heavy focus on RPG elements, and we thought this approach would best suit that focus.

>Wilkinson: Regarding the collaboration with George R. R. Martin, can you further explain how this collaboration came about and in what role it has served throughout the project?

>Miyazaki: I suppose the start of this collaboration came from the fact that I myself am I huge fan of Mr. Martin’s work.

>I loved “A Song of Ice and Fire” as well as the “Tuf Voyaging” series, however if I had to pick a favorite I would probably say “Fevre Dream.”

>I personally see “Fevre Dream” as a masterpiece among vampire fantasy and had even previously recommended it to all new employees.

>Me being such a known fan of Mr. Martin caused our executive business director Eiichi Nakajima to reach out to him with the expectation that we would get turned down.

>However, we were then given the rare opportunity to talk one-on-one with Mr. Martin which was an incredibly fun and stimulating experience. It was then that I strongly felt that I wanted to work with Mr. Martin.

>I am still unable to put into words how grateful I am to Mr. Martin for agreeing to our offer.

>The actual collaboration itself begun with Mr. Martin ever so politely confirming what sorts of themes, ideas as well as many game-related aspects I had envisioned for the game.

>This allowed us to have many free and creative conversations regarding the game, in which Mr. Martin later used as a base to write the overarching mythos for the game world itself.

>This mythos proved to be full of interesting characters and drama along with a plethora of mystical and mysterious elements as well. It was a wonderful source of stimulus for me and the development staff.

>Elden Ring’s world was constructed using this mythos and stimulus as a base. Even I myself find it hard to contain my excitement from time to time. We hope that everyone else is looking forward to the world we have created.

>Wilkinson: What are some differences when compared to your previous titles (especially Dark Souls)?

>Miyazaki: If I were to put aside the world full of fresh stimulus thanks to our collaboration with Mr. Martin, I would have to say the biggest difference is it being open world.

>Due to this, the scale of the world and its narrative, as well as the depth and freedom of exploration have increased dramatically. It is without a doubt our biggest title yet in terms of sheer volume.

>There are many definitions to the term “open world,” and I might not be phrasing it correctly, but we have simply tried our own approach to a game with a large, open field to play in.

>It is a world full of danger and threats, as well as many areas ripe for exploration.

>Among those areas, you will also find intricately designed, multi-layered castles and such.

>Wilkinson: What is the meaning behind the title?

>Miyazaki: Elden Ring is the name given to a mysterious concept that defines the world itself.

>As the trailer at the conference implied, this “Elden Ring” has been shattered. The significance of this will be one of the important themes of the game.

>That’s about all I can say at this point in time (laughter).

>Wilkinson: Will Elden Ring contain the gritty, intense boss fights we’ve all come to love and expect from From?

>Miyazaki: Yes, of course. Boss fights are something we enjoy making and make up one of the climaxes to this title as well. We feel there is a wide variety of unique and horrifying bosses for players to look forward to.

>Wilkinson: What can you teach us about the character shown in the concept art that was released?

>Miyazaki: We chose this character because of his eccentric aspects as well as the way he portrays the darkness that the world and story possess.

>While Elden Ring may be a classic dark fantasy title, it is more than just that.

>This character also represents one more theme in addition to the previously mentioned eccentricity.

>That theme is the will, or ambition of mankind.

>We are so excited to finally bring this collaboration to the world. There is so much more we will share with you in the future. Be sure to follow @ELDENRING on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, so you can be the first to see new info on this exciting collaboration between George R. R. Martin, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and Bandai Namco Entertainment.

So what does this mean?

Nintendo babies btfo

Night King DLC boss when?

Who are these two?

Attached: comparison.jpg (1920x2160, 279K)

means the game will be satisfying and kino, obviously

it basically means dark souls

The leaks said dodge roll combat is back, same with weight limits and roll speeds, weapon and armor variety, weapon arts, shit like that.

The game better not return to iframe rolling.

Sekiro was all action Souls with a side of Stealth, Elden Ring will be the stats-rpg side of Souls with a side of open world.

Ngl the world sounds like the dark souls like world. I hope it's something unique and different instead of dark medieval again

level up npc and weapon upgrade npc of course

fire keeper from ds3 and young andre

Basically Sekiro was a more focused experience, it's based tightly around sword combat. Elden Ring will have a variety of weapons and stats to create your own playstyle.

>It's Dark Souls but with an even less focused map

I'm not happy about it. They'll really have to sell me on the atmosphere of the world because so far it sounds like more of the same but stretched thin. I hope Martin's perspective has given us something unique, not nearly as grim as Dark Souls but like a darker LotR or something.

I will say Miyazaki's genuine excitement at getting to work with Martin and for the project as a whole has me interested. It seemed like he was getting a bit bored so it's good to hear him so pumped.

It looks good

Based on what?

Really. Having the mobility in in Sekiro to fully and properly evade attacks, instead of moving through them with iframes, was wonderful.
The movement in Sekiro was pretty wonderful in general. I mean platforming was actually kind of fun in Sekiro.

Will we be able to move around in Elden Ring? Or will we be glued to the ground again, with level designs reflecting that?
I am sure the game can be great regardless, but it really would be great if we could be more agile.

Can't we just have a spirit medium get Tolkien on the project and not Martin?
Fuck.

>Even when compared to the Dark Souls series, I believe this title will provide even more variety in the ways for players to overcome challenges and tweak their tactics when facing enemies.
Nice

>dodge roll
ruined

XboX WON

Fëanor and Nerdanel

Will it have cool dragons?

I'd sort of consider dark souls 1 to be 'open world'. 2 not so much and 3 not at all. But 1 had enough interconnectivity and cohesiveness between areas that it just felt like a very condensed and vertical open world.
So do they just mean like massive open areas? I think that could be cool with souls combat..it's a little worrying though.

Sekiro's combat was innately flawed as the best method of taking on most bosses, except for those with low posture (Genichiro, True Corrupted Monk) was to just run around and get a hit in and run away when you have enough time.

Please no. Can't we just level up at bonfires again? Stationary level-up NPCs don't fit into an open world structure. We've already seen this to be true three times over.

FINISH THE BOOKS FAT MAN

In Elden Ring, you become mroe feminine as you level up, eventually transitional into full sissy mode by the end.

>open world.

It's over

>whine that DaS3 is too linear
>whine that Elden Ring is too open
No pleasing you fags

Fuck world design, lore, and every petty little irrelevancy. I want top tier gameplay, melee weapons get skills, not that weak weapons art shit from DaS3. Magic better have more utility and applications, not 20 variances of soul arrow.

This team up with George made me think, what if Miyazaki teamed up with.... Miyazaki

they will implement deflection and posture into the souls formula while also having roll style combat option but that will be locked behind specific stat like adp in dark souls 2
source: my ass

>T-They'll get Open World r-right......... THIS time!!!

They've never done it before

So Code Vein, but with actually good gameplay?

SotC

>the best method of taking on most bosses was to just run around and get a hit in and run away when you have enough time.
lol no. if you actually learned how the game works you could posture break every boss in 2-3 minutes per phase. chipping is extremely inefficient and will drag the fights to half an hour in total.

If you think that is true you played the game completely wrong. The best and fastest way to beat virtually every boss (aside from the few who have cheese glitches like the ghost monk) is to press r1 and l1 in the correct pattern. Almost every single boss can be forced into a particular rhythm of deflections and attacks, the only bosses you have to run around and get a hit in every once in a while are the bull and the demon of hatred.

>chipping is extremely inefficient and will drag the fights to half an hour in total.
Not him but this is absolutely incorrect. If you actually know what you're doing, you can defeat bosses almost as fast, even without deflecting even once.

Open world RPGs are great.

Yeah and you can also beat the game without ever pressing L1, that doesn't mean the game isn't basically entirely built on the mechanic

Bump

Based westaboo Miyazaki

I never said it wasn't, and I also never said it wasn't the most effective option. But the idea that anything else is grossly ineffective in comparison is just flat out false.

Is she having sex with those dragons? Why is she practically naked while rubbing her chest against theirs while caressing their necks?

So Elden ring is the B-Team game to Sekiro like Dark Souls 2 was to Bloodborne?

Attached: 1552958990816.png (429x410, 12K)

>I loved “A Song of Ice and Fire” as well as the “Tuf Voyaging” series, however if I had to pick a favorite I would probably say “Fevre Dream.”

Is Miyazaki right? I never read any GRRM books and only know him from Game of Thrones, but are those two other books (Tuf Voyaging and Fevre Dream) actually good?

I want to get into GRRM but I don't want to start with Game of Thrones, as it is like 7-8 books. I want one book to start off with.

Yeah my big worry was it'd continue the Sekiro/BB trend of taking away abilities. Sekiro's mobility was a nice new feature, but I'd have been mad if the game was "you get one sword and that's all you get to use, and you cannot change your armor". Instead it sounds like they are making it like old souls games with a high variety of playstyles.

Westaboo Japs are best Japs. I'd kill to have the rest of Guin saga translated.

It's not Game of Thrones, it's A Song of Ice and Fire.

Start with the greeks

she's her mother retard

I think the open world aspect could work. Tightly designed locales with an overworls with lots of books and crannies with secrets spacing them out.

>beat bosses by having them fuck you until they cum
sounds based

I DOUBT YOU COULD EVEN IMAGINE IT

Hoping it's first person.

>Hoping it's first person.

You could read the article you know.

>Wilkinson: What genre do you think Elden Ring will fall under?

>Miyazaki: It is a third-person action RPG.

Please learn to read.

>>Miyazaki: It is a third-person action RPG.

>retard
How the fuck would I know? Humans typically don't give birth to dragons. Unless she is a dragon too. But even if that's the case, how could I have known?

She's giving the milkies

Sekiro was made by the B-team.

Attached: zO6CcDq_d.jpg (600x752, 82K)

But outside of the story it wasn't trash.
Did B-Team git gud?

There's no "B-team". From Software isn't organised the way Yea Forums would suggest it is.

>Did B-Team git gud?
Yes.
Now let's see if the A-team can keep up.

Probably. I mean I sure hope so but we'll see.

Then why was Dark Souls 2 trash and had barely any crossover with the BB staff?

Did you fucking read the OP?

He says that they've restructured since then, now he can head both projects and they have different development peaks.

the player character

this is really what makes his games special
Sekiro didn't have this so much, with the giant shitting ape
And Bloodborne had a lot silly splatter stuff too
Deracine is the only game to maintain this tone, really. Though there is some really nasty imagery in that game, just not "grotesque" or gruesome...

Someone post the literal shit post about the contrasting styles of GRR and Miya

Judging by your posts you are just retarded.

Yeah but Dark Souls 2 and BB had no crossover in the people working on it.

Why did From Software ultra nerf lightning spears to worthlessness in that old DaS2 update, only to never ever buff them again and then have them remain useless in DaS3 too?
I know that they are great in DaS1 and bonkers in early DaS2, but why? Why ruin them like this?

Attached: 096baf709ad06a7531836dfdc99c27ee.png (600x800, 357K)

>Xbox wins another E3
too ez boys, feels good to always be on the winning team

Look at the damage output of all the spears in Dark Souls 3, including the Partisan. Its all garbage.

Why do they hate them?

>this desperate
It's multiplat, you fucking retard.

Siblings?

lol no it's xbox and windows store exclusive lol

Mehh
Those books are fine. I personally prefer his shorter histories.

my headcanon is that they pulled all the important people to work on bloodborne early and left DS2 completely unsupervised
they kept developing ambitious features and levels with basically no internal communication and then someone had to salvage the entire mess quickly before release

Attached: 1492441958249.jpg (1280x720, 160K)

It was my fault. In my playthrough of Dark Souls 3 I had a build that used the Lothric Knight Long Spear and a blessed shield + mail breaker for a second weapon as well as the sun princess ring.
I wanted to PVP so I went to the forest area and popped the fingers. Soon enough lots of dudes came after me but I ended so many of them just by 2 handing and tapping R2 (or holding it for a second until their roll was about to finish), which is a roll catch for that weapon. It would always catch and kill anyone in 3 to 4 hits.

Needless to say a couple of days later all the spears were nerfed and the Lothric Banner from the DLC was also included. It used to be able to heal when you wear it at the left hand, activate the buff and then one hand it again. They made it so that if you activate the buff and you one hand it the buff just disappears.

It just goes to show you that the only thing the internal meta team wants is a straight sword meta, or a brigands twinblade meta for PVE. And that's pretty underwhelming.
Its kind of bonkers too because spears were the actual go to weapon in medieval history.

This is going to be the best soulsborne game, mark my words.

This screams blunder of the century to me. I'm a massive Fromfag but this one is a hard pass.

The duality of Yea Forums

It always comes down to one visionary with the balls to try and make what he wants. I like that he has this kind of sense.

The dude that crafted the elden ring and his waifu

>Wilkinson: Will Elden Ring contain character customization elements like in Dark Souls, or will it be similar to Sekiro in that there is a fixed protagonist that the player controls?

>Miyazaki: Yes, it will contain character customization elements.

So there will be character creation? It's worded pretty vaguely

THE ELDEN RING!

OH ELDEN RING!

Hardly worded vaguely. He repeats the same wording the interviewer uses and makes no mention of there being a fixed protagonist.

Sounds like you dont have an argument ds2fag.

There are DaS2fags? I thought this was about teams.

Hidetaka "If it ain't soulsborne it ain't my game" Miyazaki.

It almost sounded like the elden ring was making him sexually excited.
But I guess that's appropriate if the ring is truly as special as they claim.

Not that user, but I'll try to explain

There WAS a sort of unofficial "B-team" of newer, more inexperienced devs who worked on the DS2 base game, due to said game's nature as an unplanned "surprise request" from Bamco in the wake of DS1's massive success. At the point DS2 started development, From was already laying the groundwork for BB, and all the important people on said title, so DS2 was made by a "B-team" of devs.

However, since DS2's release, Fromsoft isn't split into "A" and "B" teams made up of experienced and inexperienced devs respectively. Instead, there's usually two big games in development at any given time (BB and DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring), with a lot of crossover back and forth between teams and a stronger degree of oversight from Miyazaki specifically to avoid another DS2 base game situation.

Dark Souls with a new skin, got it

>Then why was Dark Souls 2 trash
Because it was a dumpster fire of a development process.
>had barely any crossover with the BB staff?
Because they're separate projects worked on at the same time. And there is overlap anyway.

The notion of a "B-Team" existing doesn't really hold up under scrutiny and only survives because nobody bothers to look up who makes these games.

But who was voice?

Can't get hyped for this. I love From but hate GRRM. I hope he doesn't shit the game up too much with his "subversive" anti-fantasy writing.

Are you illiterate? Read the next sentence, it's not vague at all.

Attached: 1306017568908.jpg (185x269, 32K)

This. I hate GoT's writing. Hope this game won't go full on with the GRRMisms like it will build up a boss and when you get there before you can fight him he'll fall off the stairs and break his neck or something because "lmao twisted dude it's so realistic hurrrrr"

EXPECTATIONS
SUBVERTED

I thought I was crazy for noticing how they fucked up the editing/cutting here. Were they two different people? Did they guy become the girl? Are they just in the same place, or seeing the same thing? If one was angled to the right and one to the left, instead of both being on the right, I think things would've been clearer.

I meant in regards to an full character creator.
Character customization elements doesn't necessarily mean you can outright make your character.
I was thinking just shit like different outfits.

>Similar to the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring allows players to design and control their own unique character.
Learn to read, you illiterate fuck.

Same. Best case is he just wrote the mythos and avoids the characters and dialogue.

This better have PvP and Invasions

This, please.

>>Miyazaki: The overall process of development has been the same as it was in Sekiro.

fuckin dropped, only the music was good

huh Sekiro's combat was literally focused on the parry gimmick only, they removed the dodge frames purposefully so you'd be forced to use parry in almost any combat situation, no experience needed, no learning of boss patterns and adaptation needed. It doesn't come close to Bloodborne's smooth combat ofc, to be fair almost no game does, but I'd unironically prefer even Dark Souls 3's combat over Sekiro.

>they removed the dodge frames purposefully so you'd be forced to use parry in almost any combat situation
user. They made you like ten times more agile, so you can actually avoid the attacks wholesale instead of jumping through them. You can dodge just fine.

>fucked up
One thing is certain, that was entirely intentional.

Maybe it's the player character, whose gender we can choose, breaking the ring at the start of the game, greatly depowering themselves in the process and fucking everything up for everyone else. The character breaking apart is an important mechanic in the game. Maybe we even lose limbs over the course of the story/due to certain mechanics and have to replace them with prosthetics, for which Miyazaki seems to have a severe fetish. Especially on a crippled once beautiful/powerful god/goddess.

That's my favorite theory at least, because that would make things pretty interesting.

Alternatively it's just two different people/gods simultaneously destroying the ring(s). I've no idea how that could make sense since they're clearly alone in that big ass cave.

its gunna be witcher 3 except with actually good gameplay. dare I say i am cautiously optimistic

>Maybe it's the player character, whose gender we can choose, breaking the ring at the start of the game, greatly depowering themselves in the process and fucking everything up for everyone else
That would be interesting. I didn't look at it like that. It's going to bother me until we know for certain, though.

>Maybe we even lose limbs over the course of the story/due to certain mechanics and have to replace them with prosthetics, for which Miyazaki seems to have a severe fetish. Especially on a crippled once beautiful/powerful god/goddess.
I don't blame him

>no learning of boss patterns and adaptation need
if you genuinely believe this, you either didnt play the game or 100% got filtered by chained ogre in the intro and didnt even get to fight great shinobi owl, daddy owl, isshin, and many other bosses

Morrowind

It means you can grind stats

>Especially on a crippled once beautiful/powerful god/goddess.
Will we have a crippled übergodess wife that we'll get to care for?

Levelling up has narrative significance user. DS2 was a prime example of streamlining at the expense of worldbuilding. If you really wanna streamline your time playing vidya, I suggest you just get a job

this is unironically powerful

>bland self insert character
>so no real storyline
>huge focus one rpg so three pages of stats and menus
but why

He's a good lad.

It's literally going to be Dark Souls: Bigger Levels Edition. There's probably going to be some kind of traversal such as horse-riding as well.

Think Ocarina of Time, or Dragon's Dogma. That kind of "Open World".

because soulsfags are insufferable cunts who want to play the same game over and over again. look how much hemorhoids sekiro caused them

One of the worst things about Dragon's Dogma was the level damage scaling and I doubt From will go that direction so probably gonna be 10/10 GotD.

Open world with puzzles and other non-combat challenges would be great for a Souls game if done right.

Attached: Xwsqsvc.png (1278x677, 499K)

Will we get to BE cool dragons?

As long as the open world still contains varied "levels" or dungeons so to speak with a neat design it's all okay.

>OoT or DD, that kind of "Open World"
The best kind

dps being inversely proportional to range is one game design principle that works pretty well
they hit reasonably fast and are good for counter attacking, but bounce off shields and deal mediocre dps

this reddit spacing is fucking annoything

>GRRM fucks off, stops writing his books, and lets his television series tank so he can make a Dark Souls game
Is he /our guy/?

I fucking hate how google search has turned garbage in the past few years. Sauce me up nigga.

Brainlet.

No, the smith god obviously died in the cinematic

>George RR Fartin
D R O P P E D

dilate

>dps being inversely proportional to range is one game design principle that works pretty well
But sorcery and pyromancy projectiles require both less stat investment, consume less energy, and do just as much damage.

Uhh, you need to rewatch the trailer. Neither of those characters is the player character, the guy is literally smithing the ring, not breaking it.

Just watch it again before making theories jesus christ. He is a smith, the narrator literally states that the Elden Ring was smithed.

Btw the Elden Ring is the sun, but it's ring shaped. You can see the shattered ring in the sky when the giant ogre is shown.

The narrator also says here to look up at the sky to see the Elden Ring.

Seething.

>>Forged from the minds of two of the most influential fantasy world builders today
>Miyazaki
The absolute state of 2019

Finally we get an answer as to why Sekiro was so forgettable. They were making it alongside Elden Ring. Goddamn morons.

Shindol's Fragile and Tough. It's a classic, as well as ero and love kino.

I remember that. Very heartwarming.

so is just kinda ''open world'' but not really?

Thank you, user.

You are retarded, Sekiro had by far the tightest combat of all their games and required objectively the highest amount of learning and getting good to beat.
>I'd unironically prefer even Dark Souls 3's combat over Sekiro
Must feel awful to be retarded. Send my condolences to your parents.

limited resource instead of infinitely regenerating stamina, requires ATN investment too if you want more than 1 spell, humongous startup until the damage comes out compared to melee weapons, can easily miss, especially with sorcery at short range

>Share the load

Wait why is this "Open World" important? Isn't Sekiro considered Open world? You have literally 0 Loading screens if you don't teleport around.

That's just your alzheimers getting worse grandpa

sword clashing is what the series needed since DaS.
>t doesn't come close to Bloodborne's smooth combat
Ok this opinion comes from a sonyroach. Yeah sorry but Miyazaki ain't making exclusives anymore.

How the fuck is DaS2 streamlined, it's more obscure about everything than DaS1

God people like you are subhumans.
How the fuck does making two games at once have any influence on them. Are you really too RETARDED to figure out they have several massive teams.

dude what we even see the explosion at the last hammer swing, the fragments flying around and the dust flowing down from the "anvil" in the last shot.
And the narrator only says that the ring was shattered by someone.

What the fuck are you on about cunt? What about anything I said has ANYTHING to do with Solaire at all? Also what fucking worm?
No but really though, you have to be truly retarded to somehow bring Solaire into this, when his character has absolutely nothing to do with the Elden Ring trailer.

>Wait why is this "Open World" important? Isn't Sekiro considered Open world?

Sekiro has open levels that you can explore but there's bottlenecks everywhere and you can't really break the progression the developers had planned out for you.

Elden Ring will probably be similar.

so Yea Forums, will the Moonlight Greatsword be in this game?

Probably means, not areas leading to each other ie Sekiro or Dark Souls but a big ass overworld map like Witcher 3

I can understand why his fans get so annoyed with him. He's doing literally anything other than finishing his books

>my own sun, my very own sun

Sigh it gets old after a while.

it just werks

Undoubtedly.

NO

>I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Sekiro was the shortest modern fromsoft game to date.
Still lying because Sekiro didn't pander you little RPG faggots? Sekiro is objectively FromSofts second longest game, right after Dark Souls 2.
Like how could you POSSIBLY make such an outrageous LIE? Dark Souls 3 was a fucking 25 hour game to 100% on first playthrough, Sekiro takes a minimum of 40 hours to 100%.
>I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Sekiro had like 2 enemy types recycled 500 times.
More lies from a seething nigger zoomer. More like Sekiro had a 500 enemy types. Insane enemy variety in that game. Definitely more than DS3.

dark souls is obiectively very influential, cope

In terms of mechanics, yes.

Obviously. And it will probably be usable, unlike in Sekiro

There is literally ZERO fucking things common there you goddamned stupid nigger holy fuck. Stop reaching and pull your head out of your asshole.
How could something completely new and unique get old. You want the game to not have a sun or otherwise it's "Solaire pandering"?
I can't imagine what makes someone as mentally retarded as you. Oh yes, because the game has a sun, it has something to do with Solaire.
Jesus.
Fucking.
Christ.

It has been kind of boring ever since they went out of their way to "balance" it desu.
And no I never twinked or bullied beginners that much, but several of my highlights playing Dark Souls, was me defeating or otherwise surviving invaders that were way stronger than me.

Yeah true, Miyazaki is the only one out of those two that is an influential mind and one of the best writers of today. Martin on the other hand is a talentless hack who writes perverse erotic fiction for other deviants.

Guy with sword, guy with spear. That's 90% of the game including the final boss. And at least Simon Says had 4 buttons instead of 2.

But I'm not here to discuss quality with a paid shill. I'm just pointing out that if Sekiro is half a game then Elden Ring has an uphill struggle in front of it to reach the heights of Souls.

What about the Sun turning into the Dark Sign in Dark Souls 3? Isn't that a ring too? More pandering I see.

>tightest combat
As in, everything is a QTE you mean
>and required objectively the highest amount of learning and getting good to beat
That's because the game is built even more like trial and error than the other games. The game requires you to be constantly in the boss' face or else their posture regenerates ( unless it's a boss built around vitality damage), but at the same time, makes it so that the best way to deplete their posture is to parry perfectly their attacks, qnd failure to parry perfectly can mean losing 70%, while at the same time, when you're at low health from that 1 hit your posture barely regenerates at all, even if you hold block which, unlike other Souls games way of regenerating stamina, holding block slows you down to a crawl, still making you susceptible to the boss attacking your face, and mix in the danger calls for stabs, sweeps and grabs that block your view of what the move is, with these moves often being used as a guessing game like for Genichiro after his jump, where guessing the wrong button removes 70% of your health. And overall, when it comes to learning the game, it has nothing to do with you becoming better as a player and everything to do with memorizing enemy patterns, because as soon as you encounter a new enemy type you get destroyed unless it's fodder.

I urgently call the police, the Orthodox website spreads debauchery.

Attached: IMG_0388.jpg (1024x997, 107K)

You have to be kidding. You can't be so fucking blind.
It is a smith, smithing the fucking ring. Never seen Lord of the Rings dumbfuck?
And there are no fragments of the ring flying around from the smith hitting it, as I said, WATCH IT AGAIN. This time, use your eyes.
>And the narrator only says that the ring was shattered by someone.
Yes, and not by the smith that created it. We literally see it being created in the trailer, and the narrator is talking about its creation while it is being smithed.

Let me guess, around 70 IQ?

>25 hour game to 100% on first playthrough
Who's fucking lying here?

Retarded. Absolutely retarded. The game literally has hundreds of different enemies. Enemy types are determined by their movesets, their animations, their AI. Not how they look.
Sekiro OBJECTIVELY has far, far more enemy types than any Souls game. It's not even close actually. Not only that, they all differ from each other in combat far more than enemies in Souls games do.

You are the least intelligent person on Yea Forums right now. Any comments on how that feels? What is life like, when every single thing you say is the opposite of truth?

>As in, everything is a QTE you mean
Not him. But the game literally has less latency since it's not online.

>"I doubt you could even imagine it. That which commanded the skies, giving life its fullest brilliance. The Elden Ring. Shattered, by someone or something. Don't tell me you don't see it. Look up at the sky. It burns."

And look at this. Those are clearly shards, I mean are you a fucking idiot or what?

Attached: elden_ring3.jpg (1713x819, 169K)

Sekiro does not have any QTEs. Do I need to link you to a dictionary? You seem to be having trouble understanding basic English? Are you of Negroid descent perhaps?
>That's because the game is built even more like trial and error than the other games. The game requires you to be constantly in the boss' face or else their posture regenerates.... blablabla crying for 6 rows of rant bla bla...
Yes, it's called getting good. You actually have to do that in Sekiro, unlike in ANY other FromSoft game. This is the reason you disliked it, it triggers you that after Souls games deluding you for years that you are good at games, you were forced to realize you're a retarded fucking normalfag.

world is not that popular but it's really good, one of my favorite fantasy worlds ever, because it's not just medieval shit where the most powerful mage can lit a candle with his farts and go oom after that, with few ghouls and big spiders here and there
It's full fantasy with crazy shit, i love that

is there anything more blatantly underage than this faggoty website wars. you're on an anonymous weeb messageboard, no one gives a flying fuck what websites you frequent you insufferable boyfucking pedophile

you can ride horses now

The first area in Bloodborne has villagers, fat villagers, dogs, wolves, rats, crows and quasi-villagers. That's almost three times as many enemy types as all of Sekiro.

From makes the best blondes.

Horses are shit for platforming.
Horses are shit for swift combat movement.

Horses are only good for quickly moving from point A to B when there is nothing interesting in between.

>imagine being so retarded piece of shit you think sekiro combat has qte or is bad

dilate

Shards of the hammer you stupid fucking faggot. Holy shit, how are you arguing against OBVIOUS FACTS.
WHY?!
I don't understand. WHY are you arguing against the incredibly, blatantly fucking obvious fact that the trailer is depicting a smith creating the Elden Ring.

Those look nothing like fragments of the ring, the ring is golden (and it is literally the sun, as we see the ring in the sky in one of the scenes). The smith is a god that created the sun, "The Elden Ring".

Finally, why the FUCK would your retarded faggot ass think that an obvious blacksmith is DESTROYING a ring on the anvil, not making it? He is a blacksmith. It is a LotR reference, your dumb zoomer ass never saw LotR?

I want gameplay
gameplay when? TGS?

That is less enemy types than the first area of Sekiro has you subhuman retard. All of Sekiro has about 3 times more enemy types than Bloodborne does.

he is right tho, i had 23-24hours afaik, and I played every souls game that came before

It seems to be one guy making 100 posts in the thread crying about Sekiro, crying about Elden Ring and even trolling about the smith in the trailer breaking the ring, even though he is obviously shown creating it, the narrator even says this lol.

What a shitty fucking troll.

Its almost 2020 and horse combat has never improved since SotC and that was just bow and arrow.

I thought by these days we'd have jousting and cataphract sims and horse guts flying all over the place.

might get a gameplay trailer at gamescom or tgs, but i doubt we'll see much until next year

>I wanted to make a game like dark souls but not dark souls
>I don't want to make dark souls again
>So I made dark souls but with elves

I've been playing Dark Souls 3 lately. If its a mix of Sekiro style and Dark Souls combat I'm game.

You must be the shittiest troll imaginable, you're not even trying to be witty.

Look at this shit, this is the Elden Ring and it breaks and the shards look literally the same as the ones that are flying around the guy with the hammer.

Attached: elden_ring4.png (1721x817, 1.13M)

Where do you see elves? Not a single elf in the trailer.
We see
>a smith god
>a valkyrie (maybe? or maybe a player character)
>a giant orc/ogre/jotun
Also we know for a fact that
>it's a large sandbox world, you can ride with horses, and find areas with FromSoft type level design - but you can freely reach these places in the sandbox world in whatever order you choose
Literally nothing like Dark Souls.

I don't want to streamline my video games. That's why I don't want a level-up NPC. I dislike the way fast travel has been immediately available in FromSoft's games post-DaS and it's my assumption that it was done because they took the level-up NPC concept and used warping to bandage the obvious flaw in a mechanically important stationary NPC in a larger open world.

still more excited for this than for cybercuck from hack project

are you retarded? it was the exact opposite with sekiro.

>sandbox world

Miyazaki has been lying ever since Bloodborne. He wants to make Dark Souls all the time, just with some tweaks and differences

Please ask your parents why they did not abort you.

Not him, but since the interview describes the Elden Ring as a "mysterious concept", I really doubt it's just an actual ring / powerful artifact.

wish they've send one giant fuck you to difficulty for the difficulties sake fags and made something truly original but sadly that won't happen, this will be dark souls 3 part 2 but even worse

From already has a fetish for that.

The Miyazaki interview, google it

Huh. Looks like you didnt play the game or something????

Kill yourself normalfag

So how are the tax mechanics going to work in this game?

Attached: 243242423.png (275x433, 103K)

Well the thing about not wanting to make more Souls games was a mistranslation in the first place. If you check the original interview, he just wanted to stop doing DARK Souls games (as in, no more for that trilogy), but he very much wants to keep making these action RPGs. He just doesn't call them Souls games so people got confused. And he even said if someone approaches him with a good idea he could make Dark Souls IV, just not in the near future.

Attached: iosefka amelia2.png (1181x1748, 1.68M)

No Sekiro hater ever played the game. Well, about 2% of them tried it but could no get past Ogre. Anyone who finished it acknowledges that it definitely was their best so far.

Why is this guy so mad anons?

theres a das2 blacksmith thar has a similar boner for the flame

What are the tax policies like in Lordran?

dark souls had botched later half thanks to bamco
dark souls 2 was botched all over thanks to bamco and the console gen transitional period
dark souls had botched and rushed ending thanks to bamco

demons, bb and sekiro have no bamco

No we don't you mouthbreather. That is his hammer breaking. Why do you not take my advice and rewatch the trailer? Rewatch it 10 more times, very carefully. Then shoot yourself in the mouth for being an annoying piece of shit arguing against facts.

You can even see the shards falling off the anvil are from the hammer. Creating the Elden Ring not only destroyed the hammer, but cost the smith his life. It was self sacrifice for creating a sun for the world.

The narrator also in extreme detail talks about how the Elden Ring is a sun in the sky, and it now being broken "burns". The giant creature sets on fire because of the shattered sun in the sky. We can see a giant ring shaped sun in the sky there, and it's broken in some parts of the ring.

The smith is a god that smithed a star to bring light to the world.

Shut up, nigger

>Muh elegance
>Valley of Defilement

Because that stupid fucking nigger is actually trying to deny obvious facts that 100% of people figured out from the trailer. It's very obviously depicting the ring being created by a smith. Everyone knows this. The narrator even points it out. And this ONE fucking retard on Yea Forums is trying to argue the opposite.

Dark Souls 2's problems weren't related to Bamco, they were related to Shibuya's mismanagement which caused them to scrap the whole game and begin anew reusing his assets. Bamco sucks but I don't think it's fair to blame them for all the game's shortcomings. The main problem with Bamco is the release date bullshit, remember Dark Souls 3 launching first for streamers and whatnot.

This basically confirms that Elden Ring is structured like an old school Zelda game.

Big open map that branches out into more linear areas such as dungeons etc etc.

Attached: 1348257550930.png (510x556, 21K)

>Gets killed by sweeps

last panel should say poisonous swamps with george r.r. martin

would be cool for them to try a more traditional metroidvania/zelda style where you acquire items that unlock traversal in the larger world.

fuck off already

that was literally the first leak that came out

I haven't been keeping up with the leaks apart from the initial GRRM collab

Wait, people thought he didn't mean his comment in that interview to mean he never intended DaS to have a sequel, effectively washing his hands off from anything DasII related and explaining why he's been phoning it in with DasIII?

People truly are unimaginable morons.

This game is going to be fucking nuts! It's like the Zelda game I always wanted as a kid. Dark Souls metroidvania in a gigantic fucking map! HORY SHEEEEEEEEEIT!!!!!!!!!!!

Based eternal retard

>This basically confirms that Elden Ring is structured like an old school Zelda game.
>Big open map that branches out into more linear areas such as dungeons etc etc.
Oh if only. I probably shouldn't get my hopes up though.

That is not true at all.
Best way was to understand how the attack/block/parry system worked and look for openings while defending.

Running around like an idiot only made the boss fights take ages, and if you died you had to repeat this process. Obviously some players are too dumb to understand the combat system, so for them it is probably the only way. They should not be playing the game in the first place.

That's exactly what it sounds like to me! Holy shit lads it's going to be amazing!

So instead of Bonfires, torches or statues, anyone think that random forges are going to be the save point? Or just anvils? The aim of the game would be to repair the ring

Alright there is absolutely no sense in arguing with someone like you, you see glassy shards floating around and then falling down around the guy with the hammer (the hammer is not made out of glass by the way), you see the dust falling, you hear the shattering and the hammer is looking entirely the same during the entire process until the last shot.

That's clearly not smithing.
When this game releases you can call me out on that, but until then I'll stop arguing with someone insane like you.

Just play nice user its a CG trailer with no gameplay so there's really nothing to be wrong about.

And I should warn you now that since George RR Martin is involved, you could have your expectations subverted and that would feel really bad and insulting to your intelligence as an observer, in this case of the trailer of the upcoming game.

You know what I want? More NPCs, From's take on the classic RPG CHA stat.

I've put hundreds of hours in souls games and frankly I'm sick of the same formula. after the first dark souls game difficulty meme became their selling point and it's a shame because there so much more creative stuff they could be doing instead. I'm not saying they should make the next game challenge free or to put something like easy mode just to focus 80% on world building and lore and 20% on difficulty. sekiro for example would've been ten times better if the main design objective wasn't "how to kill player with different mini boss at every corner".

Dodge has iframes. Combat revolves around attacking and defending, and knowing to look for openings when defending and not button spamming attack when they defend against you with dodges, parry and hyperarmor.

Brilliant combat system.

Doesn't say anything about it being a sandbox game. Let me guess, you don't even know what that means lol

>The aim of the game would be to repair the ring
a toilet ring?

This is the first I am hearing of this kind of belief. It was always obvious he said he does not want any more sequels for Dark Souls, not that he does not want to keep making Soulslikes.

Also what the fuck is this new meme about crying and whining and throwing temper tantrums every time Miyazaki makes his style of game? Have we ever, EVER heard of people whine that every new Zelda game is very similar to the previous ones? Literally never. Not once have I heard that.

But oh no, can't let Miyazaki do that, even though his games are just as iconic by now.

>Dark fantasy with focus on mature themes such as swearing, incest and other forms of taboo sex, defecating and urinating, ugly and disfigured people.
women and lefties btfo

There is no A or B team at FROM and your opinion on Ds2 is shit.

You are mentally ill and stupid. There is no helping you. You'll get embarrassed once the game comes out anyway and you find out you were 100% wrong, exactly in the way I told you.
>since George RR Martin is involved, you could have your expectations subverted
What are you talking about? I am talking about the obvious facts of the mythos presented in the trailer: a smith creates a ring "to command the stars", the ring acts as a sun for the world and its life forms, someone breaks the ring, world is ending because the sun is shattered (we are even shown the shattered sun ring in the sky)
This is not up to argumentation. This is what the trailer depicts, and there was nothing ambiguous about it, not to anyone with above room temperature IQ.

So basically a souls game.

I think you misunderstood me.

I have the exact same opinion as you.

>I've put hundreds of hours in souls games and frankly I'm sick of the same formula
Then why are you mad that they are doing a new formula every time? Sekiro, Elden Ring, completely new types of games. Yet you are mad about some nonexistent "same formula Dark Souls game hurr durrr" that they are not making.
Imagine being mad about something that does not exist.
>sekiro for example would've been ten times better if the main design objective wasn't "how to kill player with different mini boss at every corner"
Terrible taste. Having so many bosses is WHY Sekiro was god tier.

>difficulty for the difficulties sake
What do you even mean with this? None of the games are like that. They're no I Wanna be the Guy or Kaizo or whatever. Not even close. They're action games that do not overly baby the player.

>What are you talking about?
Lets just not talk about this.

Probably has to do more with the reputation that Dark Souls has and its fanbase.
Its not about the Zelda franchise persay but the people who worship certain Zelda titles and their style of dungeon progression.

Maybe you should read it again, dumb faggot. Also pick up a dictionary and read the definition too while you're at it. Fucking retards everywhere.

Then why are you here?

Because you don't seem to know.

How is the player character going to repair a ring that is a giant, scorching star in the sky? The smith god and his anvil in the cinematic are most likely not even in the human realm, and are immeasurably large from a human perspective.

>So basically a souls game.

Souls games are way more corridor driven, they never really had their big hyrule field that is meant to be the big open space that ties smaller areas together.

No user. I did not misunderstand you, you are the one not understanding something here. My post that replies to you, absolutely nothing in it is implying that I am arguing against you in any way at all.

*makes blighttown*

He might not be using field as in a literal, physical field.

Really makes me think of

FROM
>"Oh, my! I imagined it might be so. Then thou'rt a dragon, or perhaps a crow? Well, whatever thou be-est, thou'rt wondrous strange, yet strangely familiar, visitor."
>"A corpse... should be left well alone. Oh, I know very well. How the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you, from your wild curiosity."
>"I am no king. I am more fit to be a jester... I was unaware of my own blindness. We are feeble vessels, with feebler souls"
>"You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you"
>"If thou seekest I, thine desires shall be requited not. Thou must returneth whence thou came. This land is peaceful, its inhabitants kind, but thou dost not belong."
>"I would speak to my brother of this, one day. Of the shining new hope that joined our dear company ...I speak of thee, of course."

GRRM
>"Sunset found her squatting in the grass, groaning. Every stool was looser than the one before, and smelled fouler. By the time the moon came up she was shitting brown water. The more she drank, the more she shat, but the more she shat, the thirstier she grew, and her thirst sent her crawling to the stream to suck up more water."
>"And suddenly his cock was out, jutting upward from his breeches like a fat pink mast."
>"She was sopping wet when he entered her. “Damn you,” she said. “Damn you damn you damn you.” He sucked her nipples till she cried out half in pain and half in pleasure. Her cunt became the world."
>"He found a line and pulled on it, fighting toward the hatch to get himself below out of the storm, but a gust of wind knocked his feet from under him and a second slammed him into the rail and there he clung. Rain lashed at his face, blinding him. His mouth was full of blood again. The ship groaned and growled beneath him like a constipated fat man straining to shit."
>"Men call me Darkstar, and I am of the night."

Attached: 1560190004953.png (968x688, 1.67M)

I've said I'm dissapointed because I think they are focusing too much resources on difficulty which results in worse lore and world design. and mini bosses in sekiro weren't really that fun once you figured the mechanics, they were rather annoying, repetitive. I'd be much happier if they made more areas to explore in a metroidvania style instead. I've still some small hope they might finally do this with elden ring, make it much more open and explorable. world building was the strongest aspect of the first dark souls, not the difficulty and it's something most "fans" don't really get.

>He might not be using field as in a literal, physical field.

It doesn't have to be, it could be a huge lake, desolate wasteland, even a forest; as long as it's built around open traversal that leads down smaller linear paths. That's essentially what Wind Waker did with its open sea.

DON'T TELL ME YOU DON'T SEE IT !

>open world

So will it have coop or do I pass on this one too?

BURNS

Attached: IT BURNS.webm (1280x720, 2.94M)

Almost certain that the guy who keeps crying about Sekiro and blatantly concern trolling Elden Ring is a salty Bloodbornefag angry he didn't get his sequel announced.

It's far too familiar a behaviour from Bloodbabs who've skulked these parts before not to be a coincidence.

I love the narration but this part kind of ruined my first reaction to the trailer because I didn't notice it was a mask and I thought it was some big Warcraft-style troll with a big nose and a protruding chin.

Shouldn't have watched some potato stream famalamb

Attached: OOHH ELDEN RING.webm (1280x720, 2.96M)

He acts like FFXV-kun, who has been spotted doing this in many many other game threads. Its not unique to this thread.

a lot of people seemed to think that. the "hair" is also part of the helmet

trailer was extremely hype killing

bad writing in the trailer indicative of GRRM's bad writing in general

gonna pass on this

that helmet is so fucking cool

Apes do actually throw poop and is probably the reason it got past him.

Yeah I was watching a stream with mediocre quality. Anyways the art style they got going for this game so far is quite weird and I like it. It looks way more fantastical than typical Souls (which does have its share of eccentric weapons and armors, but there's a lot more grounded stuff) but it has its own charm / identity. And the concept art they put on their website is great and looks slightly more familiar.

Attached: a_01.jpg (764x1080, 68K)

>bad writing in the trailer indicative of GRRM's bad writing in general
worst bait

you think that's bait?...

You don't either.

based retard, GRRM has always been a hack

He's far from being a bad writer though.

There's someone else arguing right now that GRRM is shit.

Then you and a long line of DaS fans got understandably fooled by not reading the fucking cover when it says that this isn't gonna be that kind of game.
In my experience Sekiro is dripping with atmosphere but its hard to experience it if you're too focused on the combat and on progressing through the level. I can see why most people get frustrated with the combat or don't take their time with the levels and miss out.

Attached: 1560120828172.gif (480x359, 910K)

Yes I can't quite describe it myself. Obviously the two armors we saw are fantastical but they're still functional and knightly looking.

If I -HAD- to describe the art style of these armors I would probably point towards the artistic mythical armors of the Italian/French Renaissance paintings where they would depict past Biblical characters and events through the lenses and style of their current time. Meaning they would draw saints and Romans wearing engraved burgonets and Maximilian armors instead of rags and old gear but they would try and decorate those armors to seem more fantastical and mythical to differentiate them.

Attached: DRAGOON.webm (1280x720, 2.95M)

Or just SoFai along with the HBO show.

I think maybe like 20 people in the western hemisphere actually reads GRRM's other works, both the mediocre and good ones he made.

he's a bad writer. he writes typical fantasy schlock.

>george rr martin

is getting famous people involved the new strategy to appeal to normie scum? it's not appealing to me.

Does anyone know how long of a time gap there was between the E3 Dark Souls/Bloodborne cinematic game trailer reveals and when they first showed gameplay?
I think for Dark Souls 3 they didn't show gameplay until Gamescom but i think for Bloodborne they showed it only a couple weeks after the reveal.

Anyone know?

Attached: oof.webm (720x1280, 2.38M)

For example this ceremonial burgonet which wasn't worn in war but in parades and enactments best describes what I'm trying to point towards.

This style was also replicated in older Final Fantasy games.

AAAAAAHHH FUCK IT BURNS

>mermaid helmet
Unironically cool.

I'm expecting Gamescom or TGS for gameplay since that's usually how Namco games are marketed. They've been working on this since DS3 DLC so it shouldn't be too far off.

>It looks way more fantastical than typical Souls (which does have its share of eccentric weapons and armors, but there's a lot more grounded stuff)
This might explain why I had a mixed opinion at first. Luckily both the woman/long haired dude and that concept art looks straight out of DaS3, so I actually started to get a bit hyped right now.

>two
It's before/after HRT.

Just because it's your typical fantasy book doesn't mean it's bad.
Again, I'm not sucking his dick because he's vastly overrated by hordes of rabid got fans, but compared to the vast majority of fantasy litterature, it's good.

I'm honestly expect Elden Ring to be a Q4 2020 game, rather than a Q1. Even if current preliminaries are targeting that time period. The trailer was just so unsubstantial.

But then again, it's From, and maybe they're just fucking with us on purpose and we'll see something bigger at Gamescom/VGA's/whatever.

These are "embossed" armor pieces. They were popular in Renaissance. A smith would take extra pieces of metal and mold it into fantastical figures onto the armor. This would however make the armor heavier and it would actually detract from usefulness because it wouldn't deflect sword slashes better. This is why these armors were worn in parades only.

However in games and other media these armors are fair game to include because they were purposefully beautiful over functional.

Attached: DT277025.jpg (2978x3722, 2.23M)

I'm pretty sure pic related was inspiration for the Cainhurst Helmet.

It felt like an underwhelming reveal because of the leaks. It'll be next year for sure, but given they've worked on it for so long I'm hopeful

That one's from Bloodborne. But some legend armor smith was a fan of the game and made it.
No eye slits, how would the wearer see if wearing I wonder.

You should look at the E3 Dark Souls and Bloodborne reveal trailers again.
They were also incredibly "unsubstantial"
I think Sekiro spoiled us a bit in terms of how much was shown during the reveal.

I just want to see what magic's like in this game. Will it be the same as Dark Souls or will they try to do something new with it? I hope it's fun. I don't find Dark Souls magic fun.

Attached: 1529707231388.jpg (1080x1920, 362K)

Oh shit, thats why his games stand out. He actually thinks.

I only liked Pyromancy in DkS2 and 3 personally. Hope it'll be somethig like that.

souls actually had a bunch of cool spells, but there werent enough uses for the "novelty" ones (e.g. silencing footsteps/lowering visibility, going camo as an object, etc). would've been cool to throw in more situational PvE spell usage.

They should get the berserk guy to hop on, never wondered why he never asked him.

Fucking based

Bro going camo as an object was the best spell for fun invasions. People used that a lot.

Indeed. However worn differently.
I'm just saying that the style we're seeing here has similar philosophy of Renaissance artstyle behind it. Where the artists would take modern armors and morph it with the olden BC elements. Such as the hanging cheek pieces of old Roman galea helmets. Also the wings of Gaelic and Chalcidian helmets. Pic related.

For example this is how the helmet known as "barbute" was made. Barbute, despite being worn with full advanced Gothic plate, was made with aesthetics in mind and was praised for looking like an old Greek Corinthian helmet.

Miura is too busy playing lm@os

Magic simply can't be fun in an action RPG that tries to implement multiple combat styles including melee. It will always feel shit until we get a game that is solely focused on magic combat.

>A Dance with Dragons released 8 years ago

I wish that fat fuck would just admit he doesn't plan on finishing the series.

Is it Celtic or Norse?

You saw the show, its pretty much that but with better dialogue.

It's its own mythos that takes inspirations from multiple mythologies.

Sekiro had better lore than any Dark Souls though. Only DeS and BB had better lore.
Dark Souls lore is awful.
>and mini bosses in sekiro weren't really that fun once you figured the mechanics
They were objectively better than any real boss fights in their previous games... Literally on a higher level than actual bosses in the older games.
>world building was the strongest aspect of the first dark souls, not the difficulty and it's something most "fans" don't really get.
Wrong, what you don't get is that gameplay was always the number 1 most important aspect in Miyazakis games. And he intends to EVOLVE his gameplay, instead of having it stagnate. That is how Sekiro surpassed his previous games.
>I've still some small hope they might finally do this with elden ring, make it much more open and explorable.
Why do you have "small hope" for something that is confirmed? Kind of weird.

We don't actually like or care for that fuck, so why do you feel like spamming this in every thread?

GRRM does not know how to write High Fantasy.

Big mistake. There are better high fantasy writers out there.

>MOMMY PLEASE HELP THEYRE MAKING FUN OF MY GEORGE RR MARTIN GAMEEE

>MUH MIYAZAKI
zoom zoom, nu-Yea Forums

He sucks with the fantasy aspect.

The Dragons and other fantasy parts were the weakest parts in Game of Thrones.

Literally the opposite of what I said in my post. I just hope the game is good in spite of him not because.

That's why based Miyazaki is there to balance his fat, lazy, and egotistical ass out.

Why do fantasy writers like Red Heads so much.

Red Heads in real life would never want to fight because Red Heads feel more pain more sensitively than normal people.

This is why Red Heads have a genuine excuse to hate the dentist, they need more pain killing medication than normal people to painlessly remove teeth.

>Why do you have "small hope" for something that is confirmed?

they'll need to show it first. you can't trust any company on promises alone user. even grr martin involvement might be something small and inconsequential just push hype.

based

The trailer never says the elden ring was smithed, you retard. It says that the ring was shattered (broken), which can mean anything. Don't call anyone else retarded when you can't even get that much right.

He sold it to me.

Only concern is empty, open fields. Running past enemies is already easy enough in close quarter corridors.

Please no stamina system.

the books are a song of ice and fire
tuf voyaging is a series of comfy sci fi short stories involving a fat little bald guy who loves cats and has a super weapon

The armor in the trailer looked very, very fat.

So I presume you are a Red Head(TM) that you keep writing Red Head(TM) with capitals.

How does George RR Martin and Souls blend together? You'd probably have to make the game half LA Noire where you're bluffing or something if you want to incorporate George's strong suit

You're so autistic.

Will this game have a populated world and actual civilians?

Attached: 1400886763865.jpg (490x490, 48K)

GRRM has written other books outside of ASOIAF

I understand what he means because Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne has this principle all around the artstyle.

Not a literal ring though.

Yes George it's totally different. Mythically forged ring that has godlike powers and every kingdom wants it and goes to war for it. But it's not literal so it's completely different. Thank you Mr. Martin.

>MUH GEORGE OH MY GAWWWDDD

>the elden ring is a giant celestial halo

fuck off iframe rolling was fun compared to clang clang bullshit in sekiro

Sekiro was B team. Miyazaki was working on this game.

>what is dragon's dogma

>Mythically forged ring that has godlike powers and every kingdom wants it and goes to war for it
where did you get this?

THE WILL
THE AMBITION OF MANKIND

We don't have to have Sekiro deflects and posture breaks just for not having iframe rolling.

Leaks

LORE what do you think IS the elden Ring? Human hand sized ring? Metaphor for something? Will be collect the pieces of it?

why do you lie? seriously, what compels someone to just write complete bullshit like this?
miyazaki worked on both games at the same time

Shut up already you foreskin.

>trust me bro

And dead things really do get swarmed with maggots and yet...

Who’s more overrated, Miyazaki or Martin? Who will this benefit more?

What's wrong with iframes? Bloodborn and das 3 had them and they are great.
Sure. But the team that worked on Bloodborne and Das 3 was the A team. And development on Elden rings started right after the last Dark Souls 3 dlc. So obviously its being made by the A team.

a ring that represents, and probably IS, the first geometry of creation, the first configuration of matter that the rest of the universe was born out of
the ring shattering would send the world into the corruption of disarray

...

>you can't trust any company on promises alone user
Yes you can dumbass, FromSoft.

>What's wrong with iframes? Bloodborn and das 3 had them and they are great.
It kind of sort of works, but it's really lame. It's far, far more satisfying to have the mobility to properly dodge the attacks for real instead of gliding through them.
Iframe rolling is a cheap copout. It doesn't ruin the gameplay by any stretch, but it is lame in comparison.

eat smegma turbofag

...are you stupid? That thing in the trailer is on his knees, his legs aren't that short.
Secondly, he is a giant of like 20 feet height, maybe more. There are human bodies around him and they are tiny in comparison.

I disagree and you are a retard.

I can imagine and feel the poster of this post just chuckling to himself.

What? Bloodborne is full of splatter and grotesque designs....

>human bodies
Those are ants user

No, you are retarded. The smith is breaking from crafting the ring you fucking retard, how about you pay attention when watching the trailer? His body cracks further with every strike of the hammer.

How is the average person on Yea Forums apparently a sub 50 IQ nigger? How do you people not see these obvious things that are pushed straight in front of your face? They could not have spoonfed these facts to you any clearer.

what the fuck is the "A" team and how do you know this?

The fact that miyazaki is a fan of Martin and read more than the asoiaf books but Fevre Dream is just amazing , for all the people shitting on Matins wrting how do you feel that your god Miyazaki is a fan of all martin s literature

Miyazaki directed and wrote Sekiro you lying cuck.
>What's wrong with iframes? Bloodborn and das 3 had them and they are great.
I-frames are trash design and Sekiros combat was far superior.
Its literally explained in the trailer. It is a ring shaped star in the sky that brings light to the world. You can see it in the trailer, a ring shaped sun that is shattered... The narrator LITERALLY says "Do you not see it? Look up at the sky!" while talking about the ring.

>be retarded
>call others retarded
Nice job.

>Open world dark souls
Well that's Cyberpunk defeated

>I'm pretending I swear

>no iframes

Have to judge the range and speed of the enemy's attacks and how quickly you can cover the same ground.
The risk and reward of moving into an opening versus keeping your distance.

>iframes
I am pressing dodge before the attacks!
For as long as I time this right it barely matters where I am!

There is an overabundance of red heads in fantasy, compared to real life that is.

Red heads are very prominent in nordic/celtic/general european myth, from which nearly all modern fantasy is derivative of. Often with tropes like nature spirit/innocent/feisty rebel women and shit like that.

It's why adaptations always recast redheads in stuff like films and tv shows, they aren't often that good looking in life, (very pallid, don't tan too well etc. often covered in non-photogenic freckles), and don't have the "crimson" shade EVERY fucking writer will make sure they have.

>hurr durr her hair was like fire and her eyes were like the colour of leaves

Meanwhile, green eyes are also the rarest hair colour.

But then again, it's fantasy. And a lot of people have red head fetishes.

>iframes= rhythm game
>no iframes= call of duty with swords.

>shitkirofags btfo

That's a plume, not his hair.

Here you can see the Elden Ring in the sky. The narrator at this exact moment says "Don't tell me you don't see it... Look up at the sky!!" and then "It burns!" exactly when the armored giant sets on fire.
The ring shaped sun in the sky is visibly broken too. Someone, or something broke it after the smith had crafted it. And this is causing a cataclysmic event in the world, based on the giant catching on fire and what the narrator says, the shattered Elden Ring burns too hot and is burning up the life in the world.

Attached: asdasd.jpg (1277x545, 79K)

>his

did you even watch the webM he's referring to? that's her hair

Except Sekiro combat requires tactics in addition to fast reaction times. Souls requires neither, just OP gear and levels.

took me until your post to realize it isn't some huge, yet incredibly short legged goblin. Kinda disappointing honestly. Having (intelligent) fantasy races in a Fromsoft game would be something new. Right now it looks like literally Dark Souls. It would even fit withing the DS universe, the ring being the darksign.

>open world

Reminder that this game is going to have bare breasts.

THE ELDEN RING!

OH, ELDEN RING!

I'm actually laughing at the fact that some retards thought this was a fat, red-headed goblin

Why did you not finish reading it dumbfuck

>Having (intelligent) fantasy races in a Fromsoft game would be something new.
What? No it wouldn't be new. There's plenty of other intelligent non-human races in Dark Souls.

But what about bare feet?

Attached: 1552185492581.jpg (900x1375, 383K)

calm your kneejerk reaction and finish reading

Some people are just incredibly low intelligence. There are some in this thread that genuinely believed the smith is breaking the ring in the trailer... even though he is hitting it with a blacksmiths hammer, on top of an anvil, and the narrator is talking about how the ring was crafted to "bring life brilliance" (brilliance can be interpreted as light, further reinforced by the fact that the narrator next points out the Elden Ring is a star in the sky).

>new RPG in medieval setting with lots of weapons/spells to fuck around with

that's a fucking dry heave from me. so far, the Japanese take on western fantasy has been pretty putrid from a lore/worldbuilding perspective, and i'm tired of these insectoids and their weeb-tier obsession with europe.

An actual example of the auteur dev model working to the benefit of the game. This sort of creator-enforced vision is how you achieve tone -- top lad.

what's wrong foreskin, did the jews take yours away?

this is the big thing - creator enforced
there should be ONE guy in charge of all artistic direction who has the final say on everything

the era of "collaborative projects" is over, you're not fucking collaborating, you're doing your job

I meant races that have their own region/cities/cultures. In DS we have a bunch of "monsters" that can sometimes even speak (dragons, giants, bug things in the ringed city), but other than the dragon castle in DS2, they exist mostly as an addition to a world dominated by humans.

>While assigning co-directors to each project, I took direction over the various game design, art and musical aspects of the titles.
Going all out to avoid saying "B team game" huh, I see

>>no iframes= call of duty with swords.
What?

Official press release comes out.

>co-developed with namco just like dark souls
Oh wow so the initial leak was true? The same leak said they'll be using Unreal Engine 4 for this game.

Are you retarded? That's not GRRM's writing, that's ((((David and Dan))).

no. dark souls is always co-developed

>Red Heads feel more pain more sensitively than normal people.
this is factually false, and some results tend to indicate they feel LESS pain on average
retard

did you read my post even

There are references to it from Sekiro, which was made in their in-house engine, so it looks like they aren't.

>>co-developed with namco just like dark souls
Denuvo free? It better be.

Wtf, bros? I thought Miyazaki hated Bamco for forcing him to make sequels

They probably got a better contract this time around. Money talks.

I'll explain. The cover makes her seem exotic because she's a wild, exotic, beautiful, and special orphan princess. She comes from a rare magical civilization that used to dominate the world. Then some sort of terrible doom befell their civilization suddenly. Her family survived with their dragons and took over a bunch of kingdoms and made them one. Her family eventually fell from power over many generations and she grew up in exile and spends time with barbarians. Dragons have been long dead. She inadvertently hatches some dragon eggs that had been stone in a fucked up situation that was magical or miracle. These are the only known dragons in the world and they can grow up to be mighty flying fire breathing monsters that can be trained and can destroy virtually any enemies. Despite seeming super special up to eleven she has very real and human flaws that make her an interesting character.

I doubt they can force Miyazaki to do anything anymore given he is the president of FromSoftware now

Grrm was just amazed that anyone had read Fevre Dream.

GRRM involved actually is bringing a lot of new people.
a friend of mine who never played DS is hyped about ER.

I'd bet a lot of money it was this.

BASED

Can someone post what was supposedly leaked about the game?

the name, GRRM, and the fact that's it's an open world souls game
you don't need to know anything else to know exactly what the game will be, for better or worse

Both leaks were false.

>BotW
>shitty
fuck off pleb

I hope they will have again good english voice actors, in sekiro it was strangely meh.
but the "OH ELDEN RING" guy give me some hope.

For some reason this game feels less exciting even though it sounds like it could be potentially incredible. Maybe it was the way they revealed it. Anyone else feel this way?

games award?

They who?

Aesthetically the game looks too much like Souls for me to care. I love the games but I'm worn out. Not even my favorite shitty pulp fantasy writer can bring me in.

Isn't he the same VA that worked on Bloodborne? The friendly fish villager from the DLC. "A bottomless curse, a bottomless sea". That guy. If so they're probably using their usual team. Sekiro had bad English VA because they didn't use the usual voice actors.

Attached: bloodborneleague.png (800x1131, 2.59M)

Would from have shat out this many Souls games had they not been in a contract with Bandai Namco?

>writer George R. R. Martin
That fat faggot should be finishing the books he promised his fans he would finish years ago. What the hell is doing creating a video game?!

they're just shitposting faggots who saw one out of context remark gurm made about tolkien, and can't distinguish between the tv show and the books

He probably just means it's going to be like Zelda 1.

He said he regretted the linear nature of Dark Souls 3 so maybe this game will ditch that, and let players go to any area they want from the start of the game.

It's also Gael from DS3.

I'm guessing Frog Nation are back on board with this game which is great.

Have sex Incel

Based.

Oh shit, I didn't notice. That actually gives me a shitton of hope for this since they're probably the best localizers/VAs in the western world.

I dunno. Miyazaki probably signed it because they knew Demon's was shafted by Sony. But I hope he got tired of them.

Well it's Bamco and it's once again dark fantasy so they'll probably get the same localization team for voice actors/translations. Would love to hear olden English again.

Attached: er.webm (1280x720, 2.91M)

you fucking casual, Sekiro has exactly the same iframes

How do we incorperate George's writing into a Souls game?

Miyazaki and George's approach to fantasy clash a little. Miyazaki likes to have the players pick up the pieces and fill in the blanks(accurately or erroneously), while George is heavy on dialogue and PoV stuff.

You'd have to add some social element or a more complex dialogue system than the "Yes", "No", (Attack NPC) system From uses.

Sekiro was random trash part-timers from California. Cheap and easy like most of the game.

Souls and Borne all used a British voice acting agency that employs TV and Stage actors, or gets Acting School students for the younger roles.

>open world
hype is dead

that's the chick with the prosthetic, she forged something and it shattered her arm.

I think those are two different characters in that scene. The male is the one with the braid, banging with the hammer, and the female has loose hair and only held the hammer in the first scene.

Attached: SHATTERED.webm (1280x720, 2.03M)

The ring is so hardcore it literally destroys your limbs to use.

George only wrote the overarching mythos, lore and the characters involved, he's too lazy or "'"busy""" to go full hands on

he probably dedicated like an hour of his time towards this and it's enough for fromsoft to plaster his name all over the marketing
