Reviews are meant to be objective, and even if you don't agree with a reviewer, they should feature some good gameplay footage in there.

If you would rather just watch gameplay footage then do that instead, of course. But reviewers succeed or fail by their ability to be objective - which isn't to say they're perfectly objective, but it means that if they aren't at least somewhat accurate in their assessments, they probably won't continue to have a job, since their audience will fade, or they'll sully the brand of their publication.

So yes, you shouldn't take a reviewer's opinion verbatim either, of course not. Reviews usually give you good gameplay footage and cover the main features of the game, though, so you can then make your own decision about whether you're interested in the game or not. Then the only way to truly evaluate it is to play it, of course.

Halo's lore and worldbuilding has always been it's strength, and 2's cutscenes aren't just expositonal as claims:: They flesh out the world and give insight into it's factions, history, etc.

Halo works fine without cheif. The arbiter's plot in 2 is the best writing in the games by anybody who isn't a dudebro/narrative minimalist, ODST was great, and Reach's plot, while not great, was a big step up from CE and 3.

The books also prove Halo works fine without cheif. If anything, MC is one of the least interesting parts of the franchise.

MC's story should have fucked ended at 3, and future games should have either been pure spinoffs dealing with past events and smaller scale current era conflicts; or there should have been a new mainline series picking up like 3-4 decades after the events of Halo 3 when another big conflict pops up

3 deliberately leaves a cliffhanger ending, where you see the Forward Unto Dawn approaching a mysterious planet, as the music changes to suspense.

I would guess Microsoft asked for this to be added, but in any case, the game left a clear cliffhanger ending, so it made perfect sense that 4 would pick up from this exact point. If 4 hadn't picked up from that point it would have made no sense at all.

Genuine question, why do some people get so triggered that Halo 4 and 5 have sprint, and that Halo 4 had loadouts?

Firstly, Reach introduced both loadouts and sprint. Secondly, why do you think that the gameplay of Halo should stay static forever when it has NEVER done that? Halo 2 introduced massive gameplay changes from 1 (tons of new weapons including sword, dual wielding, no more health packs, destructible vehicles, hijacking vehicles, ghost boosting, lock on rockets, and many many more). Halo 3 introduced changes too (Brute weapons like the spiker and mauler, Brute vehicles like the chopper and prowler, equipment like power drain and regenerator). Also, if we think of armour abilities (introduced in Reach), they were really just a natural evolution from the equipment in Halo 3. And then Halo 4 used armour abilities just like Reach had, but again evolving it slightly, with support upgrades and tactical packages.

Personally I want Halo to innovate and adopt features that make games better. Staying in the past is fucking stupid. Yeah I liked the old games, I played them when they came out; I got Halo CE very soon after it came out, before anyone else I knew if I remember correctly. But games change, and I wouldn't want them rereleasing the same game over and over. That would be shit. I actually have played the original trilogy again this year. They're good, but I like Reach, 4 and 5 as well. They're good games.

Why do people shit their pants because games change and pick up better ideas and new interesting mechanics over time? Gravemind really isn't that difficult. Quarantine Zone was harder in my view with all those flood at the beginning. Maybe I was restarting it because I was trying to save my elites, I can't remember exactly, but I remember having to start over and over again. Gravemind was very straightforward for me. When you're fighting in the council chamber or whatever that big room is, there are these side corridors that enemies come out of - if you walk into one of them, then the door will lock you in there, and you're safe. Then you can open that door from the inside by walking towards it. Then it's very easy to kill all the enemies and take cover when necessary. Another method, which I saw online, is to jump up onto the bleacher things on the sides of the room.

They actually said the exact opposite. Before Halo 4 came out 343i said multiple times it was a new trilogy that didn't focus on the same aspects as the original.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure if there's even a canon reason for Halo 3's changes over Halo 2 (they're subtle, but they're there - e.g. his hands now have 3 dots instead of 5, and his ankles have 4 dots instead of 5). Halo 3 is supposed to take place straight after Halo 2. So that change doesn't even have a canon explanation. While Halo 3 to Halo 4 does have a canon explanation.

Then that should tell you how bad 5 is. If I'd rather play a CoD clone than a Halo with even starts you really fucked up

Charisma vacuums are fine if they are put in a role where their charisma doesn't matter. I don't mind their designs; helps punctuate the differences between the old veteran and the new overconfident upstarts.

Fireteam Osiris, the black guy and his team, stop Cortana from taking Chief away. Cortana still goes through with her plan of waking the guardians, ancient forRunner weapons that police planets and civilizations. The guardians have long range EMPs that fry ships so she most likely destroyed UnSC forces

basically they are pretending that the details of the last game don't exist. like it kind of happened but we can just ignore it for the most part.
