When I first heard her I did think it was unfitting, but once she gets blade mode and begins delivering her lines in a more upbeat manner it was great.

I genuinely enjoy its semi-timed input battle system, I like some of the designs of characters and worlds. It is my favorite JRPG on the Switch until the fixed up version of DQXI comes out.

My main complaint is the stupid Gatcha system, such bullshit.

It was a new IP wasn't even planned a Xeno game (it was originally called Monado), came late in the Wii's life cycle, people had to beg via petitions to get it released in the west and it was criminally underprinted while everybody and their mother pirated it to play it on Dolphin.

There are plenty of reason why didn't do better. X was gimped by WiiU's install base. 2 was a return to form since it gained brand recognition from the first two games and having a high install base on the Switch.

So you didn't play Xenogears or Xenosaga? Because these games were entirely about their stories and most people criticized the gameplay as either being barebones and in some cases being outright bad. They're very minimal in gameplay, even for JRPG standards.

Xenogears' second disc even cut to the point and was almost 90% story regardless, and Xenosaga is filled to the brim with long cutscenes.
It wasn't until the Blade games that Xeno actually started becoming gameplay focused.
Xenogears and Xenosaga weren't nearly as interactive or versatile or complex or as hard as any of the Xenoblades.

Buzzwords aside, even if you consider all these elements, XC2 is still essentially Gears lite. After all these years, Takahashi can't let Gears, or the formula, and character archetypes go. Even then, outside of Dragon Quest, his designs never really applied to the actual game, the sprites in Chrono Trigger look nothing like the official art, even Dragon Quest chibi sprites somewhat emulate the Toriyama sameface

I defy someone to explain to me why the following wouldn't have been the thematically superior ending.

Pneuma dies for real (but with pic related happening) and Rex gets with Nia when it's all over. A major theme in the game was relationships, both what it means to have and lose them. Much of the game's conflict was driven by the inability of characters to move on from the people they lost. Pneuma dying and Rex moving onto Nia would have solidified the message that even when you lose the person you love more than anyone else, you have to be willing able to find someone new because there is always someone else out there to pick you up.

Eh, I'd say it was probably because there isn't a whole lot of exclusive JRPGs on the switch, unlike say PC for example, this would also explain why Octopath Traveler was a huge success on the switch and did ok on PC. (Not sure what the exact figures are for PC though, but I their player-count wasn't too hot but it did make it to the top sellers page on steam.)

They pulled some half assed bittersweet needless sacrifice ending, then they did a "surprise" happy ending even though it was obvious what was happening as soon as Rex got their crystal, and then the game ends with fuck all for resolution of the "here are your wives" plot.
