Microsoft was afraid of what the Sony Playstation could be capable of in the future, so they jumped into the console race to both combat and keep Sony fighting for the TV, rather than evolving the PS into a fully fledged PC. Their "TV" bullshit a few years ago was them (and Sony) going critical mass retard in thinking the TV was still relevant, even though everybody else was already migrating to PC and Mobile.
Now, Microsoft finally saw Steam as a major threat to their PC dominance due to MS's failure in establishing Windows Store, and Steam's past few years of pushing Linux game compatibility so hard. Instead of fighting a long term no-win battle like what they did with XBX vs PS, they're playing ball with Steam to prevent any significant userbase split off from Windows to Linux.
Epic is not even relevant. They're just constant fuckups in the wrong place at the wrong time, tried some asshole play and failed by pissing off almost everyone.

only hardcore valvecucks make a big deal about them having to click on a different launcher icon or to wait 6 months to play a few of games. I mean it's not ideal but it's far from the end of the world like how this fanbase pretends. At least epic is leaching less money from those games and pumping their money into other gaming companies.
