They'll need to pad a LOT of content for that to happen. But judging for the recent trailers it seems that they're adding stuff that was chopped from the original script. We might see more, and it's possible that the Kimahri arc for Nanaki/RedXIII will be retained in the remake.

You know doing the parts would be okay if they pulled what .Hack did and make some after plot content for you to do. In FF7 you can do a few things. Have a helicopter take you to the Gold Saucer, do a side quest for a new weapon. I was thinking this when they said CC2 was working on the parts. CC2 did post plot content well in .Hack with a side missions and some extra stuff you could do to power up Haseo and Kite. Imgine going in to part 2 with a power boost and a rare sword for Cloud.

I think that if they leave out content, people will bitch about that, but having a modern game with the amount of content FFVII had is unfeasible, especially for a remake or a 22-year-old game.
