JRPG

>JRPG
>you DO NOT play as little kids or teenagers
>you DO NOT get to kill an evil god to save humanity
>NO POWER OF FRIENDSHIP
Does such a game exist?

Nier Gestalt and autotomato

Atelier games?

Koudelka/Shadow Hearts series.

Parasite Eve 1.

>Shadow Hearts
You literally fight "God" in the first one

It's not an evil one.

Xenoblade on the 3ds

Xenosaga trilogy
Xenoblade X
Xenoblade 2: Torna the Golden Country

literally more than half of the party are teenagers, the final boss is fucking god, and it pulls power of friendship out of their ass.

>Nier Gestalt and autotomato
Are not jrpgs. The definition is embarrassingly abused on Yea Forums to the point that I sometime wonder if you guys even watch videos of the games you're talking about. I know Yea Forums doesn't play videogames.

Thank you for posting an image of best girl

>"Give me a JRPG that ..."
>"N-no, not those"
Off to a great start OP.

Pick any game with this guy (well except maybe the RPGs)

Attached: m.png (146x310, 51K)

Explain how the Nier games are JRPGs.
They're not even ARPGs or RPGs altogether.

Front Mission series
Radiant Historia maybe?

Xenosaga is the only thing I can think of that comes somewhat close

Nevermind, I can't read
The answer is pic related

Vagrant Story

Nope. They're all RPGs for babbys and pedos.

Lost Odyssey
>inb4 villain is a God
No.

They are RPGs made in Japan

party system = power of friendship

are you a genuine newfag or something? jrpg/crpg were coined to differentiate between games like dragon quest and might and magic. they are 2 different subgenres of rpgs and nier definitely doesnt fit into the jrpg genre at all.

ARPGs are a different genre from JRPGs

inb4 z00mers born after Suikoden 1 was release start telling me what a JRPG is or that any RPG from Jaban is automatically a JRPG

So any game with party members is "power of friendship"?

They're action games made in Japan.
There is legitimately nothing RPGish about them.
They're not even ARPGs.

Explain how they're RPGs.

They are like Seiken Densetsu with up to date combat, which no one question that they are JRPGs.

JRPG is not a genre.

Inb4 zoomers born after Dragon Slayer was released start telling me what a JRPG is or that any RPG from Japan isn't automatically a JRPG

Mario RPG

All adults
Villain is a robot blacksmith
Power of Mario kicking ass saves the day.

Yeah, but Seiken Densetsu is an RPG.
Nier games have no RPG elements.

any Touhou RPG when you accept that the character age is vague as fuck.

>"nier isn't a jrpg"
>"but arpgs are still japanese rpgs made in Japan"
nier isn't an arpg either

All the Mario RPGs fit.

>Moving goalposts

I'm not saying Nier is similar to Zelda, but those qualifications would make Zelda games RPGs too

was gonna recommend smt sj but
>smt is all about demon/god recruiting/killing
good luck find a jrpg that fits that second requirement

No shit, but that’s more like adding RPG elements to an action game than making it an actual RPG. It’s kinda like it was with Borderlands, it has quests and skill trees, but nobody sensible would call it a RPG.

Mario RPGs unironically fit OP's description.

Final Fantasy 7.

Trails in the Sky the 3rd

Which RPG started the "kill a god" trope anyway? I think it was SMT, not sure.

>Characters have stats and gear and gain levels and skills and you can also customise your character to change how you play as you gain rewards from completing quests in a story-focused world which includes quests where your choices change the outcomes
Now explain how they're not RPGs.

It's older than JRPGs, it's a really old anime trope.
An JRPGs have always been interactive anime for the most part.

Live a live.

DRAGON QUEST 1 MY NIGGGA

CHARACTER'S AGE IS OLD ENOUGH TO FUCK A PRINCESS

VILLAIN IS ONLY A THREAT TO THE LOCAL CONTINENT

Legend of Heroes 2 predates SMT I believe.

Last Armageddon. You play as monsters and humanity is wiped out.

Goes back further than anime zoomerboomer

You get to fight god in the real ending
Alicesoft couldn't resist this shitty cliche in the end

We're talking about the context of Japanese things you absolute retard, but you're also correct since Japanese things are influenced by Chinese wuxia mythology where normal people kill Gods all the time.

Tales of Xillia

I would suck everything that is inside Asuka's colon out through Asuka's anus with a plastic straw if given the chance.

OP here, you guys win and I concede. I'm going to go play all of those games that fit my criteria.

Final Fantasy Legend was three years older than both and you kill the Christian God with a saw at the end.

>not wanting to suck the tang out of her bladder first

>cute
>funny
>catchy music
>surprisingly deep mechanics
>actually likeable characters
>doesn't take itself seriously yet manages to be more charming than 2serious 2deep fucktarded cringefests like Final Fantasy or Tales

Patrician games.

>Time-limit for doing shit quests, grinding or weebing around while looking at cute girls

Discarded

Im kind of curious to ask for wrpgs without a certain trope since I wanted to be convinced into playing them but it's better for another thread

Edge is a teenager though

I lost the Christmas version since that was an old screenshot, and my phone auto deleted my old photos

Attached: 66E60942-6AB8-4E69-9A1A-F38E7D55CC66.png (700x393, 151K)

I'm playing Tales of Berseria right now and while the MC started out as a teenager there seems to have been a timeskip after the intro and she neither looks nor acts like a teenager (though I wouldn't be shocked if she actually was). Now I'm forming a party with a bunch of assholes, and the main character herself is an asshole, so I have a feeling this isn't going to be a "power of friendship" story. Plus this seems to be a revenge plot so far.

We'll see once I get more into it, but so far it's not really any of those three.

Would look at the games right now but after you said time limit better leave that shit alone

Does FF6 count? Is the villain really a god?

Dark Souls

Bloodborne

You do kill an evil god to save Humanity.

Why are xeno games only good when they feature older female protagonists?
>Shion is 24
>Elma is 29
>Lora is 27

Meanwhile xenogears, xenoblade 1 and xenoblade 2 feature teenagers and unironic power of friendship and shonenshit
and godslaying except for 2

OFF

Attached: Off2bannerwithOFF.png (387x258, 92K)

God, I hate power of friendship. Not because it is cliche or something but because it is so badly written and a lazy pull most of the time that devalues the any potential and strength from it.

JRPGs user.

Even if they werent, god was the main intention with him anyway

Most MegaTen games, except Apocalypse in bonds route.

Wrpg where the party is mostly kids/ teens? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Does rance 6 count?

Only like half the Atelier games have time limits. The ones without one are:
>Atelier Judie
>Atelier Iris
>Atelier Iris 2
>Atelier Iris 3
>Mana Khemia
>Mana Khemia 2
>Atelier Shallie
>Atelier Sophie
>Atelier Firis (The second half of the game. The first half has one of the worst time limits in the series.)
>Atelier Lydie & Suelle

No, it's other trope I cant stand and I dont think theres a single one in existence since last time I asked no one could tell me

What ending are you talking about? Because in the final game the child you play as is god's vessel

Yeah but op said no teens buddy.

why do the japs hate god so much

Your the newfag for not knowing this argument was settled long ago

rpgs is the most degenerate genre go fuck yourself for playing that disgusting garbage

>you DO NOT play as little kids or teenagers

That's all it takes to be a jrpg, so yes, both Nier games are jrpgs.

Cyber Knight 1 and 2
Valkyrie Profile, sorta (you kill evil gods to save Norse god assholes)
Doom and Destiny/Advanced (I guess there might be some power of friendship and it's made by Italians, but every JRPG cliche is shat on and played for laughs).

Teenagers killing gods galore.

completely btfo, holy shit

I don't think he's arguing the definition of RPGs.
Nier games aren't RPGs to begin with.
For something to be a JRPG, it also has to be an RPG

Give me one WRPG that doesn't have a quest where you help someone and you're given a decision to accept payment or not.

>Unleashes the power of and usurps three clashing demiurges

What is Pokemon

borderlands is a rpg though, even more so since all the action elements in it are a joke

get with the times, gramps

I dont mind these things in wrpgs, I would appreciate more wrpgs that dont let you create your protagonist from a completely blank state demanding you to self insert for immersion but instead had a proper stabilished but customizable protag that has ties with the world or other characters already

Mega Evolution and Z-moves are literally power of friendship

Final Fantasy I. The Crystals have nothing to do with friendship, any reference to Chaos as some form of divinity comes retroactively through the likes of Dissidia. There's no reason to believe any of the characters are teenagers.

SMT Nocturne

Metal Max games?

Front Mission?
Then just go with coliseum if looking for specific entries

Oh gee I dunno maybe you're just being disingenuous and pedantic because you know the gameplay is not similar in the slightest yet you refuse to acknowledge the difference between established genres for some ungodly reason, probably because you're underage. Would you argue that first person shooters, third person shooters, twin stick shooters and shoot em ups are all "shooters" with no real difference in genre? You might just be retarded enough to do it, actually.

Ypu dont need to be from japan to be a jrpg
See: undertale

LISA

It may be japanese styled, but it still made by a Frenchie user

Most JRPGs don't have those tropes or at best they have two of them, a lot have none.
You don't kill any "christian" god in SaGa 1, it's just the god of the world the game takes place in, SaGa 2 makes even a bigger point on that since you actively travel through dimensions to slaughter all the asshole gods in their own worlds before they fuck up the multiverse.

Even if you really was right that is the worst example you could give based in OP descriptions

it's funny because automaton is a greek word

It may be made by a Frenchie but the turn based gameplay is still inspired directly by japanese made role playing games which popularized it. Now, I dunno about you, but "how it plays" is a lot more important to me when I'm looking at a game than "who made it".

West and east have a lot of cultural differences. It's not fair mixing them together.

I like how:
>people pretend to hate child/teen parties although entire western media is dominated by same age category. Every cartoon is about them, alot of movies, and many old games aswell
>people fail to see difference between random jrpg god and guy from bible even 20 fucking years later. You'd think at least someone would catch up by now
>people actually pretend that west is not chock fucking full of power of emotion too. It's base of nearly every single story - finding inner strength to overcome the odds. Where it comes from is irrelevant - friendship, love, killed relative, all same shit in the end

Attached: godcomicpk0sv1.jpg (413x582, 68K)

>but the turn based gameplay is still inspired directly by japanese made role playing games which popularized it
And with your own stupid and wrong reasoning, JRPG turn based gameplay is inspired by western games which popularized the genre, which means JRPGs are actually WRPGs, so Undertale is still a WRPG by virtue or being directly inspired by JRPGs that are inspired by WRPGs.
Idiot.

What the fuck ever, dude. The game plays like a JRPG. We're clearly never going to convince each other so I suggest we don't waste any more time trying to.

It's funny cause that's even worse for them

Wrpgs where the party is mostly kids/ teens? I legit want to look into it.

Velvet is 19 (16 in the prologue). And yes, the final boss is literally an evil god that you beat with the power of friendship. It all gets pretty cheesy towards the end, to be honest.

>What is Wizardry
You can play with a party of literal 5 years old.

>JRPG
>it was just a trial for you to become god
>become god
>you can kill yourself to escape your duties

Disengenuous. When the average person thinks "turn based RPG" they think JRPG. When they think "real time RPG" they think WRPG.

I dont recall it being a power of friendship thing

Literally no game or genre is saved from tropes. Many works will end up drawing a line pattern in a genre no matter what or where. Now, how do you play these same tropes is what matters. I for example do like power of friendship but I get easily frustrated at how poorly used or actual meaning holds in stories or for characters in no power related ways

Attached: Seneschal.jpg (642x560, 126K)

THE WIND IS PUSHING ME

Did you miss all that super cheesy friendship talk before taking the teleporter to the final dungeon?

No not really. A lot WRPGs could be summed up with
>oh shit this guy has cool looking armor/weapon
>I'll kill him to get his stuff
A lot of WRPGs are very loot based. Most of the incentives of fighting bosses is to get that phat loot in the end, which is often the basis of D&D.

>When the average person thinks "turn based RPG" they think JRPG. When they think "real time RPG" they think WRPG.
[citation needed]

>JRPG
>without chuu2
Even in western RPG you often kill gods and shiet. What do you want? Kingdom Come?

ancient mythology

Final Fantasy 7
The only teenager of the nine playable party members is optional. Everyone else is 20 or over and 5 of them are over 30 (Red, Cait, Vincent, Cid, Barret)

This. FF7 was actually made to avert all the common fantasy JRPG tropes you saw back then and also see a lot of now.

Octopath Traveler, if you're not Kotaku.

Wot head turned into feet.

No, I shouldn’t have to change my position because of this fucking retard with a keyboard can just make stuff up. I’ve made it clear why Nier isn’t a real JRPG and I’ve made the appropriate comparisons with what a shooter is and isn’t. Grow the fuck up.

Persona 4's true ending was the worst offender. There's literally an evil god out of nowhere, you literally cast a super powerful spell to beat it while every friend you made throughout the game cheers you on. Just ugh.

>Hurr durr JRPGs can only be turn based

But persona builds up for this. Friendship here is justified by game system.

Xenosaga did the stuff you listed long ago.

Linda^3

Well according to retard OPThat's actually a crpg. I know I shouldn't bite, but the bait is just dumb enough to need a response.

What's wrong with friendship?

Nothing, I love it personally. The only problem is that this kind of thing is often pushed to the side just as an excuse to have an asspull of a power. At least persona 4 make this theme as its main, so it's fine there.

>jrpg protagonist isn't a teenager/kid
>no power of friendship
wish more games did this. jrpgs with a teen cast are nearly unplayable
