That's a terrible example because most games coming out now have complete crossplay even the upcoming cod modern warfare has complete crossplay between PC xbox and ps4 so the whole friends excuse is moot. If anyone wanted a PC but their friends were in ps4 they don't need to buy a ps4 anymore they can buy a PC and play the same games with those same friends on console. There's a reason Sony literally banned crossplay with other platforms in their big AAA system sellers like cod and fifa because keeping people within their ecosystem makes them money. Hell the whole reason they even released the ps4 pro was to stop people migrating from ps4 to PC for better graphics. Andrew house said so himself.

The infrastructure wasn't there for complete crossplay last gen in the same way it is now. Right now according to devs themselves crossplay is as easy as flicking a toggle on their servers. Sony didn't want crossplay with xbox and switch this gen because, again according to devs, they don't want people buying items on xbox for example and using them on ps4. They got forced into it though especially with the whole fortnite fiasco.

Because a console is cheap and accessible to them even though a literal 750 ti toaster can run GTA5 at 60 fps with higher settings than a PS4 and play online for free. That's the reality of it. The next xbox will sell millions upon millions whether you like it or not. They sold around 50m this gen without even trying and being more expensive than their competitor.

The point is that the gaming division of Xbox doesn't make much money, and there is always the possibility that they will be axed as a result of under-performing. Gaming makes up a huge portion of Sony's overall revenue, so they'll invest heavily into it. Microsoft isn't funneling the money it makes from its other ventures into Xbox.

In 2016 xbox division made something like 20% of all overall Microsoft revenue. That's an insane amount when a company is making like 80bn dollars revenue a year (back then probably even more now). It makes so much money and is so relevant to them the Microsoft CEO went on stage last month and literally had gaming as one of his 3 most important business ventures for the company. He also said they're investing "aggressively" into gaming. They wouldn't spend 10 billion dollars on new studios if this was some pet project they're going to close down in a couple months like you're implying just because they're underperforming compared to the competing right now.

How do you know they don't? Also you're comparing a userbase of 90m to one around or under 50m. In the bigger picture those sales figures are barely over 10-15% of the userbase. If halo 5 has sold even 5m that's on par with the same attach rate as these games at 10% of the userbase (most likely sold even more and played even more due to gamepass).

Barely anyone buys playstation platforms for exclusives since the proper 3d football games like pro evolution soccer and fifa launched on ps2 as well as the gta games. I live half of my live in college dorms and of all the people I've met who own a ps4 only one of them owns any exclusive game and that's this one guy who owns God of war. Literally none of the others own anything aside from fifa 19 or rarely a couple of them own red dead redemption 2. They play so much fifa they hold tournaments in my block every couple of weeks.
Considering how bloodborne only sold 3m I would say your friends who own it are extremely rare compared to everyone else. For comparison the last fifa sold 30m on ps4. 10x as much as bloodborne.
