Because the ripoff is alright, DF is an ascii based sim, but you can use a tileset for it.

Dwarf fortress is not really complicated at all but the ui is shit and it's a boring game overall. It's so overhyped that whenever someone starts playing it they think they must be missing something or playing it wrong

Yeah I admit I wouldn't really know, as I loaded up a world then immediately got bored like I was looking at an excel spreadsheet and so never touched it again. And I wanted to like it because I enjoy listening to Kruggsmash's playthroughs. Best of luck with your more normie friendly steam release devs, I'll check it out again then.
