They announced a Terminator "pack" which means the lootboxes are back. So I'm going to pass on this one. I was a huge fan of Gears but hosting characters behind lootboxes was the worst thing they could have done. Gears 2 and 3 have you characters for being loyal and playing the previous games, but 4 made them cost a ton of scrap and with my shit luck 50 boxes of grind got me nothing at launch and nowhere near the scrap to get any characters I wanted.

Had to rewatch it to verify, it was during the phase out when they showed the stage. Character packs in Gears 4 were lootboxes that had certain characters and guns in them. This one will likely 100% give the Terminator. But with previous character packs you would need to grind anywhere between 3-8 individual character packs (Carmine as an example) during events to get them because they had guns and emblems in them just to unlock that one character. But then there were "mlg packs" and "elite" packs and all other sorts of packs which just overloaded me on them so hard that I just ragequit the game because I've always had shit luck with them.

Gears of War peaked at 1. Then they broke the game with matchmaking, which removed the community from the game and made it impossible to shit-talk over voice the other team between rounds. That and the addition of heavy weapons like the mortar really broke the flow of the game. It was all down hill from there onward.

Overrun was a great gamemode, campaign was average but enjoyable, multiplayer had plenty of flaws but I had fun with it and the new characters in Judgement like Sofia, Loomis and my boy Paduk were great.
