Okay, so just to clarify (sorry, I'm a casual observer) the person in that trailer is a NEW character? And NOT Diaz or Maria or whatever?

Pretty much all the creative decisions came from Microsoft themselves/whatever agency they were through. The CG itself was directed by a man, and he himself didnt seem to thrilled on the project. Music was definitely chosen by the agency. Not sure if the person heading up the project on their end was a man or woman, but probably a woman.

The result of this is the ad agency is making final calls on everything, and although the artists themselves may be primarily men, there are a few women at an ad agency, who have no artistic talent, making the decisions. I knew this trailer would get slammed from the moment I heard the rundown on it, as did a lot of other people.

Yes, however we deal with projects pretty frequently that are in poor taste, so no one is really surprised by stuff like this. Probably a solid 40% of projects are shit people know is not good, at least conceptually. The artists are more focused on making sure their models and animations look good because they really have very little to say on the overall direction of something like this.
