Just finished Planescape

How did you play Planescape without knowing DnD?
Good game, if you could power through planescape, you'll get into this game. It has the same mechanics, basically.
Anyone has a Mega with BG 1 and/or 2? Not the enhanced editions.
>cc with morte then spam charms and spells
it isn't that hard
>what am I in for?
Getting kicked into the head until your dead nhahahaha
But you would at least be able to grasp the basics of DnD.
low ac = good
Never played bg1 but bg2 about 3 years ago or so
Literally my fucking favorite game. Love everything about it. Can get painful reading so much sometimes but its still worth it.
based banditposter
I barely understand how THAC0 and AC works
no idea what the shit "stuff vs spell" means
use bows
>what am I in for
prepare to be eviscerated,fool
if by stuff vs spells you mean save checks then dont worry about it
anyway roll a fighter or paladin and rip through the game, just make sure you have a good str roll and 18 dex
because planescape is 90% storytelling. now if he would have said icewind dale, you would have had a case
>what am I in for?
read the manual before you start
comfy adventuring and a better game than 2, neither of them hold up to the Icewind Dale games though
but the RTwP system is hot garbage and overall they don't match up to Dark Sun or the Gold Box games
they're a solid 7/10 time, which is par the course for IE games, not bad but not great either
I have the enhanced version, how fucked am I?
I heard the expansion is trash.
Then go search for the terms, it's not that hard.
Look up the new characters, ignore them
Is this the power of zoomers? Just go play D:OS instead since it's probably more up your alley
don't play SoD,it's shit
also, just play the originals with mods
ttps://www.gog.com/news/enhance_the_gameplay_in_your_edition_of_baldurs_gate_from_gogcom
It's a compilation of old mods to make the game looks better and run on modern PCs. It's infamous for the amount of bugs on release and some changes in dialogue to make the character more acceptable to modern audiences.
>what am I in for?
A lot LOT of savecumming. You'll find yourself saving after each successful HIT.
EE has the pink haired Neera who is the whoah so whacky wild mage with that cutesy randumb personality.
Started playing today. I hate level 1 D&D so much. Couldn't go to the mines because a hobgoblin ambush would 1-2 shot Imoen. Even in the mines someone randomly gets 1 shot by kobolds
Kobolds sniping you at the mine.
Yea Forumsros...
>You must gather your party before venturing >forth.
You must gather your party before venturing forth.
>You must gather your party before venturing forth.
>You mu
>You have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself.
>*party annihilated by a thousand arrows*
Use the spell creator kit and make a time stop spell/ability called za warudo and buy lots of throwing knives and dump everything in unarmed combat. Best way to play this.
save vs. anything is your chance to avoid dmg/effect of a spell or breath or whatever ut is. thac0 and ac both go down as you get better, everything else is pretty intuitive.
Perfect for a murderhubo
what does this mods give? Better graphics?
Make a dwarven berserker and thank me later.
you shouldn't be in nashkel mines at level 1, you musta been rushing main plot, do some exploration, you'll gain power quick. or just cast sleep gg
save vs spell is basically resistance against that spell afaik
RTWP is fucking aids.
well, i've to start with something if I wnt to get into old wrpgs
demo-version of NWN2 which is demo-version of DAO. BG is unironcally outdated in all terms. It was surpassed few times already. BG2 however i still kino.
And especually after Planescape BG will feel generic and boring as hell.
throwing daggers are great in early bg1, they hit so often compared to melee and even bows it feels like
Any mods to make the combat more interesting? My archer kills everything before they have even a change to get into melee range.
If you think Baldur's Gate has a lot of dialogue, you should give Planescape: Torment a try.
no,it allows you to play in widescreen resolutions and fixes some bugs
>My archer kills everything before they have even a change to get into melee range
Just put him still then
I went to the mines because other shit would wreck me when exploring. The kobolds are pretty weak, but they give no xp at all. My main guy is almost level 2, but so far it has been a pain
NWN2 was smart enough to give you level 2 by the end of the tutorial
RTWP is fucking shit and too easy.
You learn spells by right clicking on scrolls while they are inside the mages inventory.
Only mages learn from scrolls other spells-caster classes get spells automatically per level.
Armor class should be as low as possible as in a negative number.
Charisma has literally no effect on conversations so its a dump stat unless you play Paladin or Sorcerer in case you are playing the mod that Combines BG1 and 2 in to one huge game.
Make sure you get the expansion it adds an amazing dungeon.
Best roll I've ever had was a 98, back in the OG BG2. If the EEs did one thing right, it's adding that total roll column. Saves a bit of time.
>level 2 by the end of the tutorial
>in a game where you'll probably only hit level 10 at the end
no
how early are you? once you start vsing larger parties with clerics and mages you'll need to work a lot harder. bows are great in bg1, they fall off pretty hard in bg2 though. you could up the difficulty? if you really wanna mod, scs is the way to go ( sword coast stratagems) have fun
Literally any game will feel exciting after the boring piece of shit slog which is PS:T. At least BG 1 and 2 have actual combat and don't have shitty pretentious walls of text about >dude death lmao.
If I dismiss everyone else, will all the xp go to my player character?
Friendle reminder that Vikonia is best girl who do evil only because of her nature and you can rehabilitate her by sweet and tender love and teasing.
I got a really lucky roll for my fighter berserker
I'll probably take him to bg2 seeing how i've never completed 2. I've beat 1 several times though
probably should've gotten higher int but it should be alright with potions against the mindflayers I hear about, no?
this is true, some classes only hit lvl 7 at max xp in bg1, thete's much more to progression than just level.
spoilers, if you explore the west side of the town of nashkel, where there's a little farm, you can find a great early game item (use tab to spot containers)
>t.pleb
oh yes most certainly WHEN I MENTIONED----
a fun thing to do is roll a multiclass fighter/mage/thief, and mod the game to uncap your xp limit, then solo everything, you'll level insanely fast and be very versatile, but it's not really for newbs, just a cool possibility
Yeah you'll be fine
berserker is great in bg2 because the hardest battles are usually mages and your ability trivializes it
cringe illiteratefag
You will reach the Highest level pretty fast in the game.
And the game has no spells for levels past 8 so there is no point in over-leveling.
Play the game normally so you can import your character in to BG2.
They could have thrown some more non-combat xp for the early game
My problem is the very low hp everyone has at low levels, as every hit has a chance to kill. You pretty much double your hp at level 2, such a gap never happens again
yeah int pots are plentiful you'll have no issue, zerker is my favourite class for main character, it fits the story perfectly. so does sorcerer if going magic
tight
alrighty this will be THE RUN before bg3 then
Sorta related to this thread because of BG3, how is this game?
play warrior mage
reroll your stats until you get 18/00 str and 90+ skill points
give your mages slings
don't invite anyone to your party until you're level 5
You can also get whatever you wish for a weeeeny lit' more than me competition.
It’s not that different, not at all really if you avoid the new companions. It’s easy as hell to get going and you don’t have to fiddle with any mods. There were a lot of bugs on release but that was years ago. They’ve been fixed as far as I know. I haven’t encountered any on multiple play throughs. Never tried SoD, but it looks meh at best. Plus it will give you a couple of levels which will make the start of bg 2 even easier if you import your character.
Just play the EE version, avoid the added content on your first play through (neera, dorn, the monk guy, and hexxat). Hexxat sucks, but fits an all evil party in bg2 since there isn’t an evil thief available.
peak jank
>be walking corpse
>almost every single female around either wanted or want to fuck you including aasimar who is literally created as epitome of beauty
>be spawn of an actual God
>zero female attention through the whole adventure
No wonder Baal's children are fucking losers
i got some fine lookin' wenches, ain't i, daeeeeuhuhuhuh
durlag? more like durfag
If you value gameplay over story, stay away. The RTS sections are absolutely abysmal.
Nah that's the beauty of archers in BG1. If they don't have at least the triple times the kill of other party members there is something wrong
>aasimar
>epitome of beauty
Aren't they just mutts?
thank god BG3 wont have rtwp
>Aren't they just mutts?
No, that's half orcs. Aasimar are literally humans chosen to be angels.
Where's the anti-beamdog poster when you need him?
Never had rats, no seeraah
Your bg1&2 experience can still be saved. shsforums.net
Fighter/cleric multi good?
Never played before. Some spells with good armor and fighting ability seems good. Paladin better?
Never played BG 1/2. Am I better off using EE + that mod, or should I install the originals with mods?
Take turns
zoom zoom
How many mages should I ideally have in my party?
So far my party just consists of my PC, the companions from the intro dungeon (minus Imoen since she was taken away) and a fifth companion I picked up in an inn. So far I've just been running around exploring the districts of the first city while trying to scrape 20K money together, but I feel like I'm doing myself a disservice by using the first companions since Aerie is my only mage.
Many of the quests I've picked up require me to leave the city (which I haven't done yet) and some of the areas in the city contain powerful dudes, liches and other shit that I feel like I'm not supposed to be facing yet
my rankings for class power across the entire series bg1, bg2, ToB
god tier-
sorcerer
fighter/mage (kensai/mage)
inquisitor paladin
ranger/cleric
dwarven defender
great tier-
berserker
pure mage
clerics
good tier-
barbarians
pure thief
druid
archer
assassin
swashbuckler
avoid unless you rlly want to play one tier-
bards
monks (strong later, weak and boring early)
any suggestions?
I gots ta stop dippin' in to me own ale, huehuehuehue
tabletop games dont have RTWP, lil' zoom.
but bg2 was rtwp
You won't have access to paladin kit bonus and amazing paladin saves, also you can't use edged weapons IIRC but for the rest you'll be better. Spells like DUHM, Rightous Magic make it insane
>ranger/cleric
That works?
If you want vanilla experience, which you should, you're ok with EE without the tumblr characters. Also make sure to disable the sprite outlines in the options, and don't play on the added baby difficulty level.
jester is fun and underrated as fuck, confusion spell on demand from level 1 that turns into slow + confuse + unconscious at lvl 20. plus use any item, mage spells, mad lore for free identify, decent combat abilities, mad pickpocket abilities.
it's not gamebreaking or solo material to be sure but it's a fun way to spice up a run.
ee without mods imo, just don't play the little intermission dlc siege of dragonspear. there's also the new companions but they're ignorable if you want, not a big deal, not worth wasting time modding them out unless you really want a pure experience, if so go for it
BG2 isnt a tabletop game, and RTWP is shit.
my core party usually ends up 2 mages, 1 cleric, 2 fighter types, a thief
It's real-time with split screen co-op developed for PC and Stadia.
My inn's as clean as an elven arse!
>katana is 1-handed
thanks. sounds like ill do enhanced and mod out the new tumblr characters.
so you can 2kat
Blades when properly played are really strong and versatile, one of the most fun classes imo
F/m/t is also worthy of god tier. You use mislead and hide your copy somewhere to backstab infinitely and have a fighters thac0
Wild mages, at max level might rival sorcerer at how powerful they are
Has someone played the Siege of Dragonspear? Can you fuck the main villain lady?
You can just ignore them ingame, trust me you don't even need to check their names, it will be obvious which are the new companions.
i haven't tried myself, i've heard a lot of word of mouth over the years of its power so i added it there, grain of salt
Wanted to buy this on Gog, but comments say Beamdog fucked this game. So I ended up pirating the original. Is it really better? I like to pay for games, but when they get fucked like bethesda FO1 & 2 over the Interplay games I just can't.
blades,skalds and jesters are great
Wasn't it based on a bug? Like more druid spells or something?
there's a mod for that, changed the animations but it still counts as 1h for stats
What's your opinion on this party:
>mc as a Monk
>Minsc
>Edwin
>Aerith
>Imoen
>Yoshimo
>Is it really better?
The EE is fine, people are just being autistic about it because of SoD and the new companions which you can both ignore.
pain
i forgot fighter/mage/thief but i wouldn't play one unless you're running a smaller party, like 4 or less people, the xp is just too slow otherwise, levelling 3 classes at once is slow
That's enough, I'm tired of this "masterwork bastard sword" meme etc. etc.
>Aerith
You can probably swap her out for Tifa or Cid after disk 2.
If you removed the exp cap and doing all max exp stuff possible, like killing Elminster every time he appears, it's doable with full party
>buy
Just pirate
>I like to pay for games
Why? They don't even have the decency to be honest to their pay pigs such as yourself and admit that giving them money for a download is nothing more than giving them, a company, a donation.
yeah it's fine dude, you can make anything work, take whatever npcs you like. i usually play custom 6 man parties cause i'm kind of tired of the companion quests and dialogue at this point, but i think i'm in the minority there
I meant Aerie, kek. Typo...
So does anything carry over to bg2?
...
I want to drink water from styx and experience Baldur's Gate again...
>it works if you cheat
Some items. Especially a lot of items from SoD if you played it, like 9 of them
Your decision on if you killed Drizzt or not
Your tome upgraded stats, only for main character
>"My own inn is as clean as an elven arse!"
Gotcha m8. It's just that I found monks to be extremely effective as "fighter types", if you know what I mean... whether it was unintended or not, higher level monks felt OP. And I picked monk cause back then I was playing this MMO called Dark Ages where they had some pretty cool monks.
I don't see removing exp limit as cheating desu
Friendly reminder that best party is:
>Aerie
>Minsc
>Jaheira
>Korgan
>Viconia
And you romance Viconia
ehh bg is a broken game in terms of balance, a lot of longtime players mod tge shit out of the game to make it exactly as they like. doing uncapped xp solo runs is classic baldur's gate
- Your CHARNAME.
- Pantaloons.
- There's some weird experimental item transfer. For exaample: You can get Claw of Kazgaroth instead of Balduran's Helmet in the opening dungeon. If you're a weirdo.
>And you romance Viconia
T: Cuck
what
monks are awesome they just take a bit to warm up. in bg2 they are great but in bg1 you're basically dead weight for the entire game (monks didn't exist in bg1 originally, none of the class kits did)
>monks didn't exist in bg1 originally, none of the class kits did
right. My MC in bg1 was just a plain old fighter iirc (I played 2 a lot more). I just remember monks in 2 being really cool. After you hit a certain level, you were nearly immune to magic and could 1-hit most most regular enemies
