I thought Kanji only had a small crush on Naoto, and then stopped actually being infatuated once she revealed she was a girl? Kanji of course liked her style, but didn't actually feel legitimate attraction.
Also it felt like the writers didn't want too many LGBTQ characters. Yosuke seems to be struggling in the closet with his bisexuality. He says homophobic remarks to Kanji throughout the game but at the same time, says a LOT of questionable lines to Yu. For example, in the drinking scene where Naoto hangs out with them, Yukiko/Risette are all over Yu, and Yosuke says "Man I wish I switched places with you!". It's never specified WHO he wanted to switch places with but it strongly suggests he wished he was sitting on Yu's lap or resting his head on him
